Solid Starter Backpack Bag
This was the first backpack bag I purchased and it treated me right. It's not overkill on size which helps in minimizing how many discs you bag. As a beginner it's good to try new discs, but carrying too many is usually a little overkill. Learning each disc is clutch and when you can't bag 30, it helps. There is a nice water bottle holder and stash pocket for wallet, keys, phone, etc.
The putter pocket was decent but too many discs in it can make the bag kind of top heavy. The side pocket was great for some snack, extra towel and my disc retriever. The elastic open pocket on the side by the water bottle was pretty good for holding a towel or even a rangefinder. Just need to be careful whatever you put in there doesn't fall out. The strap handle on the top was nice also, small feature that is used a lot.
The straps were durable enough to last me until I upgraded to a Super Hero bag. I passed this on to my buddy who was just getting into disc golf and it was a great bag for him too.
I upgraded to the Excursion Pack from the Innova Adventure pack which was durable but began ripping at the strap join due to extensive use. I’ve never really used any bag but Innova since it serves my needs very well and maintains its quality.
The Excursion Pack is great for slogging around 17-20 discs. I’m not sure how one would fit 25 discs in this bag unless you jammed the discs together and didn’t put anything at all in the side pockets. The one feature that I love about this bag is something I’d been wishing the Adventure bag had, which is the full-length side pocket. It’s long enough to carry my Kwik Stick retriever and also boasts inside mesh pockets to hold items in place.
The putter pocket is wide and holds several putters, although I use it for lighter items, since I’ve found with previous models that heavier items will cause it to become top heavy and topple, as well as compromise the integrity of the internal frame, causing it to sag badly over time. The rain cover is neatly tucked into a zippered pouch on the backside of the pack. If you didn’t need it, you could easily untether the rain cover and use it for extra storage. Be warned, though, that the zipper tends to loosen and slide open as you use it over a round. The straps are padded and comfortable, and easy to adjust.
The only gripe I have with this bag seems to have been addressed if I can believe the product photos on this page. My Excursion Pack has a bottle holder that has no adjustable cord like on the Adventure pack. The photos seem to indicate that this has been remedied, though. Overall, a great bag that’s able to hold a lot of discs and gear yet maintain its comfort over multiple rounds.
