The Tangent is an understable midrange disc by Maple Valley Plastics. MVP disc sports is known for its high quality putters and midrange discs while utilizing the overmold and “gyroscope” technology. This understable disc is ideal for beginners and less powerful disc golfers, but will also hold a place for more powerful throwers who need a nice straight flight. MVP claims that it has a smooth profile that will fit in your hand like a glove. The Tangent complements MVP’s Vector & Axis nicely to give MVP a full suite of midranges, with the Tangent being the most understable of the bunch.

This disc is so much fun. Any line you put it on it will hold it for the entire flight. If you are a beginner switching over from ultimate this is probably the closest to an ultimate frisbee (bar the pdga approved ultrastar of course). It is perfect for woods golf and hitting gaps, just point and shoot. If you own this disc or are buying one I highly recommend trying it out for longer (or jump) puts as it will glide dead straight.

This disc is pretty great overall it's very sturdy it has pretty accurate flight ratings but the only thing that I've come to find with this desk is if you accidentally overthrow this too hard it will keep going that way if you thought right hand back hand and you overthrow it power wise it's going to drag right as far as it can go and there is no correcting it in any way or form. although if you learn to throw smoothly and throw accurately and just take your time and really focus this is really great for approaching and it's very straight very stable and if I had more trust in myself throwing it I would use it a lot for a lot of low ceiling, narrow shots. But because of how inconsistent it could be depending on how hard you throw it and how much spin you put on it.. It could ruin your scorecard. And because of this I almost wonder if the speed is a bit higher than what it should be because I have a disc from MVP that has a five speed five glide rating and I don't throw it very hard and I get pretty consistent readings but with this one if I throw it even just slightly harder than what I want to do it just seems to just fly right and keep going.

I have used this disc for a very long time, and I see myself continuing to use it well into the future. It will hold any line it is given, with very little fade (RHBH). Thrown flat and it floats on a string, thrown with an anhyzer angle it will continue to float on a gentle curve. I like this disc a lot!

A go to in my bag for approach shots and short drives on calm days.  With little wind the tangent will hold almost any line you put it on.  Throw it on an anhyzer and it will soar for forever with just a bit of fade at the end.  My only real complaint on the disc is that it becomes too flippy when it's too windy out, but as a fairly understable mid-range that is to be expected.  Otherwise this is a great super reliable point and shoot type midrange that I would highly recommend to anyone.?

I personally found this disc too unreliable as I would continuesly turn and burn it and would rather reach for my Axis. But gave to my girlfriend as she has significantly less power and she found it a perfect disc for her as she could get it to hold a straight line without turning it over.

As stated by other players, I would recommend this disc to anyone especially if they want to use a different company other than Discraft or Innova. when I first started out I was using a meteor and although it was flying great for me i wasn't getting the distance that Iwanted from it. The only thing i would say that this is more of a stable disc than understable.

If I can recommend one disc for beginners to throw, this is it.  I've been a casual player for about a year, and of all the discs I've purchased in that time (way too many), this is the first one I've truly fell in love with.  If your form and arm speed are still developing, like mine, this will tell you exactly where you stand.  Lower arm speeds will see dependable dead straight flight, with good glide, and minimal fade.  Wherever you release it, that's where it is going.  Great utility disc off the tee, and I've hit my longest putts with this disc as well.  I know the characteristics of this disc are probably much different for experienced players with a full complement of shot skills and strength in their arsenal, but for a beginner, you won't find a better disc than this.

The grip on this disc is pretty solid. It is pretty comfortable in the hand. The plastic is pretty good. Extremely slippery when wet.

Whenever I have thrown this disc every time it seems that this disc does not want to fly. It seems like it drops as it flies. Every time I do throw it it seems like it is going to fly on a straight line.

Whenever I do get a throw that doesn't drop to the ground I am very pleased with how the flight turns out. On these occurrences I have noticed that the numbers are quite accurate.

Overall  I'm not a fan of this disc, I have a hard time throwing it; mainly because it seems that every time I throw the disc it falls to the ground before it goes its full distance.

The Tangent is a great midrange for the understable mid slot in your bag. It holds turnover shots to the ground. It also holds long, gliding, hyzer shots. It's easily hyzer flipped for tunnel shots. Lower powered players can get good S-curves out of flex shots.

The Tangent has lots of glide and can be useful for players of any skill level.

I am writing this review from my own prespective. I can throw most of my mids around 210 reliably but I throw my tangent around 230 -240 feet

    Pros:

    • Can be turned over for left to right flights even at slower speeds. (~60% power still turns right)
    • Can go super straight when hyzer flipped
    • Has incredible glide. I can't beleive this has a glide rating of 4. I would say this is my highest glide midrange ( more glide than a lattitude Fuse even though the fuse has a 6 glide rating.)
    • Always seems to land nice and soft.
    • Actually is a very good putter and sometimes I use it as such when I'm mad at my Ion. I don't use this for anhyzer putts though (I use the westside swan for that).
    • Disc is touchy to bad form. This is also a plus for beginners as it teaches you to throw better.

    Cons:

    • The flight numbers at infinitediscs.com seem to be ridiculously off. This is a fairly understable mid.
    • Disc has a hard time going left. I use my axiom alias for right to left mid-range shots. (or a utility meat hook disc like an innova firebird)
    • Disc is touchy to bad form. This is also a plus for beginners as it teaches you to throw better.

This is my most constently used midrange disc.  I got it at the MVP tournament in 2015 and I love that fact that it flys so straight.  If not released straight it will break either way you released it, but it holds a line very well.

The Tangent is a very interesting disc.   Mine is a 172g Neutron plastic in Imperial Stormtrooper white, purchased from Infinite Discs with their excellent service as usual.   thought a 5,4,-1,2 disc could not be as understable as the reviews here and elsewhere says it was.  TheBossMan's review said it best:  "unique" and "irreplacable", to wit:

On hyzer throws, the Tangent holds the lines well, with almost no skip at the end.  It's a parking machine under the basket.  On high anhyzers, the Tangent would fight out of it and fade back left (I'm RHBH), giving a nice S-curve.  I use that on some holes at my home course, and I wonder if the Tangent will lose that fade-back as it beats in and becomes more understable.  Time will tell.

But on  low anhyzers, the Tangent is outstanding:  Hole#8 Alexander Park (my home course), is a downhill, dogleg-right tunnel shot, and when I throw the Tangent flat and hard, with just the slightest bit of anhyzer, it drifts right down that tunnel and glides to the ground without that fade back (a high anhyzer will fade back, I've learned).  This makes the Tangent indispensible in my bag.

Fair warning:  like all MVP discs, one needs that good "snap" to get the most out of this disc.  Ergo, it's not for absolute beginners, but as one gets one's form down, the Tangent will be a good addition to the bag.

This disc will hold anhyzers better than 90% of the understable mids out there. Very reliable and a staple in any ones bag if you wanna be a superstar.

This disc is awesome. As some have said it will turn over slightly and hold that line with some speed. When thrown moderately it will sail straight. Love this disc!

This disc is pretty situational, but also totally unique and irreplaceable in my experience.  If you hit the sweet spot with it it will fly dead straight all the way to the ground, but really there are less touchy discs to throw if you just want a straight flight.  Where the tangent shines is those shots that you need to slowly turn over a bit and hold that line all the way to the ground.  Thrown at the right speed, the tangent will slowly move smooth as butter into a foreward carrying turn and gently track to the right until it finds the ground.  I've had more people ask "whoah, what disc was THAT?" after observing this tangent flight than I have about any other disc.

I am an old school disc golfer who recently finds myself in transition. as of today there are 10 disc in my bag, three months ago none of these disc were in my bag. for nearly 25 years my game has been dominated by 2 disc manufacturers, innova and lightning. i made the decision a few months ago to make a change and try out some of the new companies. in the last 3 months i have tried disc from - discmania, legacy, MVP, salient, vibram and westside. I probably didn't need any of them as i easily have 3 or 4 hundred disc from older companies like discraft, innova, lightning, gateway, whamo and a few others. anyway MVP and vibram now dominate my bag. Now for my review of the tangent. my tangent is a 171 neutron plastic "storm trooper" white with black stamp. this disc is one of the most versatile disc i have ever used. it goes straight, it goes right, it goes left and it finds chains. i birdied a basket today with this disc from 70 feet that i have never birdied in 7 years of throwing at it. after only throwing this disc for a week or so i am certain it is going to be one of my all time favorites. the MVP plastic looks great, has decent grip and is tough as nails, i am so glad i decided to give them a try. of all the disc i have purchased in the last few months the TANGENT is the most impressive!

I just got myself a neutron tangent 2 weeks ago and am in love! First off, the feel of it in my hand is what sold me in the first place. I can get this stable/understable disc to fly super straight which is what I was looking for all along. Forget about the buzz! MVP is my go to for discs! I love the neutron plastic because it takes a really long time to beat in.

I love all the MVP line. The Tangent flies just like a buzzz. It has replaced my buzzz and Roc. Let them fight while MVP Tangent takes the lead in best disc.

I have the tangent in the neutron plastic and was in love with in after the first round. This has weeded out my understable mid ranges from the bag. First off, I find this disc to have a sneaky turn. It appears like it wants to hold straight or hyzer but ever so subtly it works its way into a turn. There have been a many times that I thought I was going to hit a tree only to see it turn away just enough to miss and park the hole. Also will hold a great anny line. Second off, from my experience with this disc, it is not quite as long as my other mid ranges, which for me is a plus. For those holes where I am not comfortable with a putter and would overshoot with say a buzzz, that tangent fits the bill nicely. It is more consistent for me than a putter and just feels better in the hand and even with a full crank, won't put me flying past my target. Overall a great disc and would definitely recommend!

My Tangent is Blue, 176 grams. I gave my reviewer discs two solid weeks of play. First, let me say that the Tangent felt really awesome when I got it and has a big diameter. On an anhyzer release, the disc holds the turn all the way to the ground and never flexes out. On a flat release, it flies very straight with maybe a little right turn. On a hyzer release, the disc stays pretty straight and then finishes softly to the left. When comparing this disc to the Westside Tursas, the Tangent is a little slower, not quite as much glide(which is actually nice), less turn, and less fade. The Tangent is a more reliable mid-range because the flight is very consistent. Another great disc from MVP!

I really don't have enough good things to say about the Tangent! My disc is a yellow Neutron plastic 173g. I really like the feel of the neutron plastic. Since it has been hovering around 30 degrees here most days, it is stiffer than usual but still has a good grip. The only thing negative about it is that it does get a little slippery when it is wet, but it dries easily with a good microfiber towel. I love the vibrance of the color of the plastic as well. They are easy to spot on the grass or snow. I have been playing disc golf about 9 months, and have seen the best improvement to my game by switching to MVP discs. I was previously throwing discs around 165g, but with these I don't seem to notice the extra weight while throwing these discs. This disc releases cleanly out of my hand. The rim of this disc is more similar to a putter, and my fingers fit in the rim perfectly. I also have small hands and short fingers, and I can get a really nice grip on this disc. This disc is also flat on top rather than domey. I took this disc out for a few rounds, and the more I throw it, the more I like it. For me, it flies more similar to my Buzzz. When I throw it flat, it goes straight like a bullet with very little fade at the end. It definitely flies straighter for longer than my Vector or Axis. This disc will be a nice compliment to my bag. When given some hyzer, it responds very well and arcs with the angle given. I'm still trying to figure out how to throw anhyzer, but when I get it right it goes where it should. I think this might be the disc to help be finally figure it out. I highly recommend giving this disc a try, it is super easy to throw and grip and responds well to your throw.
