The Latitude 64 Diamond just might be the BEST disc golf driver for beginners. This disc has just the right speed, turn, and glide to maximize distance for weaker throwers. It’s also available in very light weights, which helps newer disc golfers overcome limited distance from low speed fade. Not only is the Diamond a great disc for beginners, but it comes in the very durable Opto Line plastic. This disc will endure punishment and maintain its flight characteristics for years. If you’re new to disc golf and want to excel, buy the Diamond today! Many disc golfers use their Diamond for more than approach or fairway drives, but also for the their drives straight off the tee. That is because the rim size allows for a perfect grip to throw it with power.

I bag this disc for rollers , high release turnover flex lines and for a easy approach disc that doesn't need much to carry up to the basket nice and straight at 150' in .

I bought one of these as a forehand dominant player to try and work on my backhand distance. I must say, the "Easy to Use Driver" is no joke. I find myself throwing a lot more backhand off the tee now, even tried this disc forehand a few times and it is overall a great disc. I highly recommend the Diamond, one of my favorites in the bag right now!

My armspeed is about 8 (7 on a bad day 9 on a good day) but thrown at full power (for me), it has something like a -4 or -5 turn, brand new, first throws.  (I have a Sidewinder and Heat, both just one speed up and also "-3 turn", that don't have anywhere near as much turn as this).

If you're a beginner, who has difficulty getting any sort of turn out of something like the Leopard, but you want a driver with some turn, or have had trouble finding a driver that holds an anhyzer for you, this thing may be what you want.

The Diamond is good at turning around an obstacle, and having a ever so slight fade back, thrown flat, or for throwing a long sustained anhyzer that has no fade back.

I'm getting about the same flight as a Mana, but with slightly more distance.  If I had known it would actually turn so much, I would have bought the Maul instead.  This is half Lat64's fault (as the turn is more like a -4 at least), but also the industry's fault, that sets wrong expectations for numbers, and having no consistency or standards for measuring and quoting flight numbers.

This is a disc that is certainly hard to use until you get control of your hyzer. If you don't know what arm speed you have, hold off on this disc until you get that down. The reason? Super easy to throw this one with not enough control and have it just turn into the woods, over a hill, etc. and almost lose it. Once you start getting your form down, however, throw it with some hyzer for it to start flying straight as an arrow for 250+ feet of distance with some fade at the end. You could get more distance on the right hill or fairway, but reserve this one for some fun or practice, then use it to shave strokes off your next game.

Best ( backhand ) Beginner Driver Yet

Found 2 of these,  So easy to throw,  gave them to new players - who were so happy to throw well.    Lat 64 has made the best beginner discs I have tried so far.  Learn to throw with your other hand ?  this might be it for you too.

Would not call it a speed 8, if you throw it hard it will flip,  but has great ability to HYZER flip and teach you to do that shot.

As a novice player choosing discs is frustrating with so many options. I heard about using understable discs as a beginner and tried the Diamond.  Wow for the first time I had a disc that would fight to stay right and not have hard fade.  This was my first 8 speed disc and it really helped me through straighter shots.  For more advanced players this disc is really understable but for beginners who lack power and distance this disc is great.  Eventually you do gain more power and it becomes a disc for special holes but it really is a great disc for beginners when you want to step up in speed from a 6 or 7 speed fairway driver.  I prefer the opto plastic.

I got this and a DX Sidewinder for my son's birthday two years ago. Both discs seem to work very similarly from what I've seen, though the Opto plastic is a definite plus as the DX Sidewinder has gotten much more beat up. The Diamond is more understable than we expected, which turned him off initially, but once we got a feel for how to throw it on hyzer, it's been great for distance, and useful in some situations: The final hole at a local course was often hard to ever get better than a 3 with our stable/overstable drivers due to the position of the several trees, but my first time testing out the Diamond, a strong hyzer throw flipped up level and continued straight from the one hill top to the next, and came to rest right in the bullseye!

The Diamond can deliver some of the longest and prettiest flights you'll ever see. The glide time is ridiculous and new-found distance can be easily achieved for beginners with slower arm speeds. This is a very understable disc though, so you will need to develop your hyzer flip technique as your arm speed improves. With a good hyzer flip, the Diamond could be the longest-flying disc in your bag for a very long time.

This was one of my first drivers I bagged when I started disc golf and I can't recommend it enough for others starting out. But as I'll mention at the end, it's also a reliable disc for specific scenarios for intermediate to advanced players too. For beginners, it's durable lightweight plastic makes it ideal for new throwers figuring out their pulls without having to compromise their form like you might see when starting out with full weight discs. In my first months starting out, I drove this disc on a couple ticks of anhyzer. As I started to pull faster and build up more speed in my drives, I would rip it on a flat release. Not too long after, this disc would start to flip out every time I would drive on full speed. It became too flippy and I put it away for a while. After about a year, I've reintroduced it to my bag and I now rip it on a generous amount of hyzer for straight lines knowing it flips up just enough to sail perfectly straight down the fairway. Even though it's an 8 speed, there's so much glide that I've been able to land a 332ft. drive with it, and there wasn't any wind that day. I've certainly carried it even farther on tailwind holes.

Yeah, it's a beginner driver disc, but it's also great for intermediate and advanced players that want a disc that's consistent and handy for a nice flip over backhand instead of throwing a forehand, when you want a straight flight thru a very tight narrow fairway (like Holes 4 or 5 at The Fort), or for driving on mountain courses at higher elevation. And again, if there's ever a tailwind, this 8 speed disc is going to go FAR for you.

The Diamond was my favorite go-to disc when I was learning how to throw backhand and didn't have much strength or speed. The wide range of weights made it possible to graduate up in weight slowly as I got better. It flights super straight and is very forgiving. I found it similar to the Innova Archangel 170g disc except that I could throw the lightweight Diamond way farther.

I have the other discs in this line as well - Pearl, Jade, & Sapphire. I so appreciate that Latitude 64 understands the need for lighter weight discs!

This disc is quickly growing on me!!!

I have been throwing an Avenger SS at 169gm with accuracy but because I have a slower arm speed, I'm not getting full distance out of it!

I decided to pick up a Diamond at 157gm and see what I could do with it.  This disc took me a few weeks to figure out because it is SUPER understable! I mean, anhyzer shot all the way! But once I started to learn to throw it with a Hyzer flip, this disc shoots the perfect flight with a ton of distance! I easily gained 50-100ft consistently and accurately!  Could be because of the lower speed, could be the better weight for me... maybe it's the combo of the two!

My local course is fairly open with a few trees to dodge and this disc is my now main driver.  My Avenger SS has a more consistent and predictable fade on the end and still needed for a few holes, but the Diamond was named appropriately!

For reference, I am a RHBH thrower and consider myself an advanced beginner/low level intermediate- I understand angles, flight patterns, and I continue to improve everyday with my form and am seeing results in my drive distances and accuracy.  The Diamond has definitely stepped up my game!

I wish I had purchased this disc when I started playing a year ago, because boy would that have changed my game right from the start. This disc is perfect for beginners. I love the feel of the opto plastic and how the disc is a little domey. Between this disc and my Fuse I have really been able to work on my anhyzer throws (RHBH) if I know I can't quite get the distance on a forehand throw in certain situations.

In my opinion, this is the first disc that a beginning disc golfer should buy.  The lightweight driver is great to not meat hook for a beginner.  One should be able to throw this 200' without much effort.

Once you get your form down, this disc is a GREAT disc for an easy turnover disc.  It disc will hold an anhyzer line even when thrown flat or a little bit of a hyzer.  I use this disc for all my backhand drives that I need to move from left to right.

I would recommend this disc for anyone.

    Opto 152g

This is the first understable disc that I learned to throw.   Because of the light weight I can throw this disc true to it's numbers standing still or running up the tee box.   With a little bit of anhyzer I can bend this disc to the right to get around obstacles.(RHBH)  It's just a great disc.

The first one I bought over 12 years ago was a translucent green color.   It was a mistake to buy that color.   It became difficult to find in any green grass of any height.   Now I own a bright pink one that they can see from the space station.

    Opto Air 155g

Feel: Somewhat domey but not too domey. No pop-top and it holds its shape. Very comfortable rim and shape. Opto plastic is firm and only slightly pliable, grippy yet smooth, a great feeling premium plastic.

    Distance: 275-325'

Flight: Most beginner friendly control driver that I can recommend. Easy recommendation for first distance driver for beginner. Flippy and almost unusable for all other speeds.

    Beginner: 10/10

    Intermediate: 7/10

    Advanced: probably unusable

I learned to hyzer flip with this disc...and now it's my "unintentional crush" disc.

It flies almost identically to my old DD Truth. It's a little faster than a Leopard 3, but has amazing glide.

It does feel more understable than a Leopard 3 and wants to turn. I imagine you could roll this disc if you wanted to.

I rated this as my favorite disc to start out.  Was so excited to throw this that I bought three different styles.  Now that I have moved to intermediate, none of them make my bag.  I would recommended this to a beginner for sure, but don't get all geeked on them like I did, and buy multiple styles if you are moving up fast.  Buy one that is max weight, learn to throw correctly (with a natural hyzer) and let the disc do the rest of the work.  Very easy to put too much torque on this disc once you learn, but great for beginners.

Very workable for newer players, my wife likes to throw it in pink glimmer plastic.

Doesn't like wind at all since it´s so understable. Very glidy, so you can really put this far if you know the disc well. Could work for rollers as well.

    159g Opto Plastic

I love this disc! It feels so comfortable in my hand and I trust it to go straight. This is the first understable disc that I have had and I really like it for tunnel shots. I throw this on a hyzerflip and it will go completely straight for me. It has been a work in progress for me as a roller disc as I am not used to throwing rollers as understable discs, but I still love this disc. If I also need a disc to turn right towards the end of its flight, I'd bet I am throwing this disc. Highly recommend this disc for people trying to find an understable disc that they like.

I absolutely love this disc.  I'm still a beginner, and mostly throw forehand for anything longer than 60 feet.  If I need to go left with the disc this is my go to grab also like it off big open tee boxes to throw a long double banking throw that only turns a bit right at the end (RHFH).

The Diamond is one of my all time favorite discs. It was one of the first drivers I really learned how throw well in the sense that I wasn't just chucking it and hoping for the best. Starting out I had a fairly slow arm speed compared to some others and this disc always gave me a nice straight flight with a mellow hyzer finish (RHBH). As I gained arm speed I was able to flip this disc up flat and push it out even further distances. I don't see a time that I wouldn't be carrying a Diamond in my bag anywhere in my future.

Overall, I'd say this is a great disc that almost any player can find a spot for in their bag.

Let me start off by saying that I bought this as a mistake as I didn't really look at the weight of this disc before I purchased it. However after I purchased it, I started trying it out and as I was throwing it I noticed how understable this is. It is insane. As I was throwing it, it was showing exactly the same pattern. Thrown hard with BHRH and it will always glide to the right. Thrown hard with FHRH and it will always glide to the left.

It became such a tool as at some times when you just want your disc to glide to the right or the left it will do just that. I never thought this would make it in the bag, but here I am with such a powerful tool that I see no reason why not to have it in my bag.

The only thing I would change about this disc is the turn (I gave it -5 since it does really turn like you would not believe) and the fade, since the fade seems to be really late (almost none).

I bought the Latitude 64 Opto Diamond to have a 8 Speed compliment to my 7 speed Latitude 64 Opto Air River. Needless to say I was shocked at how this 8 speed driver tends to feel like a 9 speed driver at times once its beat in a little bit. Honestly the only con to the Diamond is that (at least with the Opto plastic) the fade at the end of the flight can almost be nonexistent which can leave me in a spot or two sometimes. However overall a very great disc to have in your bag if your looking for a nice 200 foot touch shot to the basket.

I purchased this disc because I wanted a disc I could roll with a backhand easily. Now, this disc is easy to get on its side, but it's hard for me to roll it past 250'-300' since it is so understable and curls up quickly once it's rolling.

This disc made my bag for another reason though. At my 875-rated skill level I find the Opto Diamond and the Star Mako3 to fly similarly at low to mid-power levels. But, when you crank on a Mako3 with a STEEP hyzer flip it's going to head out straight and never fade (which is great...or you can just throw an Aviar normally). However, when thrown with a STEEP hyzer flip at full power the Diamond will stand up, ride straight for a second, and then dependably turn and turn and turn. It won't fight out, and it won't turn into a throller. To throw this shot I act as if I'm going to throw a Firebird on the mother of all hyzers around a grove of trees, and amazingly it goes the opposite direction on a late turnover...and it stays in the air for a long, long, long time. Yes, any ape can step up to the tee with a Diamond, turn it into an insta-throller, and brag about how this disc is below their level. Don't be an ape. Ask yourself the question - what happens if I throw this with enough hyzer to not turn it into a throller? You'll like the answer.

You can BOOM this disc for serious distance because it never quits, but if I want something to throw straight and far I'm reaching for something more traditional and likely less touchy. For turnovers up to 260' or turnovers in tight confines I love the Mako3, but when I need to BOOM a turnover the Diamond impresses my fellow mouth-breathing ~875-rated peasants on my Rec card. With the Mako3 and the Diamond I pretty much never "throw discs on an anhyzer". I throw these discs with varying degrees of hyzer and they do the anhyzer work for me.

I found the Diamond when I was looking for a very understable disc for backhand sweeping turnover shots released flat to replace my Gou.  The Gou was a bit too understable and the plastic felt enough different from latitude that I was adjusting my grip when I threw it and that isn't something I wanted to be thinking about when throwing.

I used the Diamond mostly for sweeping turnovers with a little fade at the end but also for hyzer flips.  I have used it for downhill bombs but it doesn't always fade back leaving me with a landing position far to the turn side.

I have tried it as a roller but it turns and never comes back rolling a long way but way off course.

I bagged both the Diamond and Witness for months throwing both interchangeably before finally deciding on the Witness due to more consistent results.

I think it is great for beginners since it can be thrown very straight by anyone just learning disc golf -- just don't throw it into a headwind or it will turn hard.

My wife throws the Air Diamonds and absolutely loves them. I've always been curious but at 150g, they quickly turn into rollers if you have any speed on your arm. So when Lat 64 released the 170 carat diamonds, I decided to pick one up.

It's not as flippy as you would expect, and I actually think it will make my bag. You can throw it nice and slow and it will hold whatever line you put it on. It kind of flys like my Star Stingray, but a little bit further. There's not many open shots on my home course, so I haven't gotten to try it full power yet.

All in all, if you're missing an understable fairway between 280-320 ft, I recommend giving this a shot.

This disc is pretty fun to throw because of it's massive glide. I can throw it nice and smooth and it turns slightly to the right (RHBH) and then fades back for a fairly straight throw. Not a disc for my bag, but I gave it to my wife and she loves it. It's light weight which is good for her and she can get much more distance due to it's natural s-curve and solid glide. She really enjoys it and so I would definitely recommend this disc for beginners.

I have a 158 gram Opto plastic Diamond that I bought used, and it is quite seasoned. I expected it to be a super turnover/roller disc. I was wrong. When thrown flat is has a nice -3 to -4 turn with a solid fade. On a slight hyzerflip it it has a very regular slight (-1 to -2) turn and fade back to straight. On a solid hyzerflip it just lasers straight as can be.

This is not a headwind disc by any means, and DO NOT throw it with a strong left to right crosswind. I id that once and got about a 500 foot throw on 300 foot hole about 45 degrees off the intended direction, which left me about 350 feet out. Needless to say, I missed the putt for birdie...

This disc is quickly taking the lead for the disc in my bag with the most almost aces.  Very useful disc for beginning to intermediate level players. About the only thing it can't do is hold a hyzer line, and I expect a newer disc (especially in Moonshine plastic) could do that until it is broken in.

This is the perfect first disc for beginners. It doesn't matter if you give this to a 5 year old kid or an adult who is just starting because anyone can throw this disc. i have absolutely no use for it but I strongly believe that every beginner should have one of these because it is the most perfect disc to start with. It has great glide so there will be added distance, there is amazing turn for low power shots and minimal fade. This disc will start out as a straight with light fade for a new player but will become their farthest driver in no time. It is a great disc to learn to develop form and to learn about their throw. If you are a beginner or are looking for a disc for a beginner or kid, grab one of these above because there is no better disc than the Diamond.

Ok so in another review I compared this thing to Innova's Archangel. They are very similar, but here's the thing. This disc is only available in light weights which perfect for absolute beginners. This also means that you will grow out of it quicker than one in a true 170-180 weight, and also you should not throw this thing on windy days, especially because of it's amazing glide.

Now, I gave this disc 5 stars still, because for what it was designed to be, it is the best at what it is. For kids or first time players, this thing will give you enough distance to be competitive with. You will absolutely not regret getting this disc to learn how to throw with. It is very easy to get this thing to get a straight flight for true beginners and will give you quick confidence in the game, but don't be surprised if you outgrow it quickly, which is a good thing!

This is the best beginner driver EVER. Any time I get a new person ou there playing with me, 9 out of 10 times I'll give them my diamond. I had a 13 year old out there for his first time playing, he threw the Diamond on an s-curve for like 150'! This is THE BEST beginner disc hands down. If you invite a lot of new people to play and need a fun disc that they don't have to have great form to throw, pick up a Diamond. Your new friends WILL thank you. :)

I have experienced no greater beginner driver than the Diamond. Plus it has a wicked cool snake head design.

The diamond is light, I bought the heaviest one in Opto that I could here, and it's 156g. Developing arms benefit from this light weight.

But the glide! Oh man, this thing just soars. You know how if you try to throw a paper airplane too hard it just crashes? But if you throw it just right, it glides on and on and on? That's the diamond. Slower arms learning to drive have just the right "oomph" to launch this thing like a glider that soars on updrafts.

Stronger arms can take advantage of the disc as well as you grow out of it as a driver, although I'll agree with the poster who said that you can stand with your back to a tree and toss this a good way. Again, the slightly slower arm speed seems to work wonders on this disc. It was recommended to me as my first driver after I got really solid with my mids and I am very thankful for that advice.

In my honest option, the best beginner disc. It's forgiving of throwing it up, has sneaky distance when thrown softly, and can handle a hyzer angle.

DO NOT USE IN THE WIND

For Intermediate & Advanced players, there are a few shots I want to let you know about:

    1) Far approached with your back to a tree. We've all had to fight our way out of a bad situation 300ft from the basket. From a stand still, I can throw a Diamond 300 ft, when my max driving distance is 400ft. Effortless and moderately accurate, but do not even try it from the tee.

    2) Dogleg approaches: you'll need some field time to get the hang of the anhyzer dogleg, but you can power if down and get it to just keep going in the direction of your choice.

The Diamond has got to be one of the greatest discs for beginner players, hands down. I know that the Leopard and the Valkyrie have their places, but when getting my wife into the game with those discs she never could get the shot she does with the Diamond. Even now, with years of experience she throws this disc better than any other and she is always finding it back in her hand.

Even as an intermediate/advanced player I found the disc to be a pretty great one to throw. When thrown with a hyzer it will flip up to flat and even sail a little right before coming back toward the middle. The disc goes forever as well, the high glide on it is amazing. While I don't think all players above beginner need to throw it necessarily, I do think every beginner should try this disc out

This was one of the first drivers I got when I first started playing due to the fact it was so understandable and I still had poor arm speed. It worked well at the beginning as a hyzer flip disc but then after using it for a few weeks it became even too flippy for my arm! Definitely a good disc for hard anhyzer lines for my experienced players but all around a great disc for newer players.

I have a 151g Diamond and have been playing 8 months seriously. I think this is the absolute best left to right disk out there right now in this class. It can shot shape as well and make a Wonderful Roller !!!    Tons of fun... This disk never lets me down. I have had 3 of them.

I have a max weight Opto Diamond. The diamond was a great disc for me to start with. I used it both as an approach and a shorter fairway driver. Now I throw hard enough that I have a hard time controlling it. It pretty much just turns over and dies for me anymore, but I keep it around to lend to friends who are learning to throw. I still don't know if it quite gets to -3 on the turn though and it definitely doesn't get to 1 on the fade. It is very forgiving and will go really straight with a slow arm. Lighter versions are even better for weaker arms. Definitely a good training disc for beginners because it can carry a decent ways, longer than most midranges, but doesn't hyzer hard even for weak arms. It lost its spot in my bag a while ago because I would over power it, but I don't think it is made for experienced players. I recommend it for beginners though.

I have a opto diamond at 161 g.  I use mine for my understable control driver slot.  It is understable, but isn't so understable as to turn and burn very easily.  I use mine for long approaches or full power rhbh uphill or with a tailwind.  It has a small role in my bag, but performs its role well.  Not a must have disc for me, but a good one.

That being said, this is a fantastic beginner driver (my wife has had excellent success with a 150 g opto diamond).  I would probably give it 5 stars as a early beginner (or very low power player) driver.

one of favourite new discs in my bag. this is a MUST disc for new players and more seasoned players that want a little finesse. i was a little worried cause most of my discs are in the 160-175 range but this was 155 grams. no worries with different wind conditions which i played in. reminds me of the innova leopard which is understable also but the diamond just goes a little farther and gildes a little more. helps new players work on their form without sacrificing distance. might have to get another in a little heavier weight . love it latitude!

I can put this on a anny and roll it! I put like 50 to 75 percent power on this disc and it glides for miles! I am very please with this disc!

This is a good disc for control and for those who don't have as much arm power to be able to get more distance.  It's very dependable.

Got one of these in the mail with my welcome packet for the PDGA, but in Black, so I was a little nervous of throwing it with leaves on the ground. Picked up another bright yellow one in Opto plastic for myself at 153g, and a 131g Opto Air for my 8 year old Daughter.

As the name says, it is indeed a fairway driver if you have any sort of arm strength. If you give this a run up, it will turn over. But- a nice comfortable throw with a flat release and this thing will glide with a nice fade and turn on it. Give it a good bit of hyzer and a little more power and it will fly dead straight with just a little fade at the end.

My daughter was able to get about 150 feet with the Opto Air plastic, and she is usually lucky to throw 70. Great disc for little ones.

If you're new to the game, or have difficulty getting distance. Get one of these and get ready to see some serious difference.
This disc has seen tons of use for me. On shots where I need an absolute turn this is the disc I reach for. Need a roller? Anny it. rolled this the other day on a RHBH anny shot, up over a hill and perfectly between an S opening within the circle fo the basket.
Hyzer flip this thing and it pops up, still turns a little, but will fade back just a little.

    Pros:
    - Easy D with Hyzer Flips
    - Excellent turnover disc
    - Great for rollers

    Cons:
    - The ONLY con with this disc is that being a lightweight disc, if you overpower it it will turn hard and bury itself. But you really gotta be goobering up your shot to lose it.

I picked up this disc for my 8 year old son hoping it was what they claim it to be, it's a step up in weight for him but it does what is push to do. So happy with this disc, the OPTO plastic is so durable vs the DX he has been using , hope to have this disc for years to come.

The Diamond is my new favorite disc! When I first got I tried throwing it with the usual run up and launch. Big mistake. All it wanted to do was turn hard and sail really high. Today I realized I was throwing it all wrong. With a simple 2 step walking approach, slight hyzer release, and 60-70% power, this disc flies for days! I almost had my first ace with this disc and shot my lowest score to date using the Diamond as my driver on almost every hole. My friend even referred to it as a "cheater disc" it was flying so well. Finally, the Diamond is a beautiful disc to look at too! Mine is 151g translucent blue with green lettering in Opto plastic.

Update: I don't use this disc as much anymore, but it still comes out in special circumstances.

The Lat 64 Diamond is a great disc for begginers. The saying that its an easy to use fairway driver is not an understatement. I bought mine on a wim because at the time i couldnt find a fairway driver i could throw accurately and easily. The opto line plastic is very durable stuff. It also feels really good in the hand and isnt to buttery or grippy. It's also hard to wear it down. Ive dinged mine off of several trees and there is barely a scrath on it. The flight of this disc is great to watch. Its a bit understable but has a nice bit of fade at the end which works really well for RHBH throwers trying to get around that obstacle in front of the basket. If you are a begginer or just looking for an easy disc to throw the Diamond is a great place to start.

Great driver for those who throw with less power. I've had most of my longest drives ever with the Diamond. The Opto plastic feels great in the hand, and after dozens of rounds, mine still looks 9/10, with only minimal scuffing, no rim damage, and believe me this disc has hit a LOT of trees. The glide on this disc is out of this world. All in all, this is a very fun disc to throw.

I haven't found and easier driver to throw. A moderate throw will travel 300 feet with the Diamond. Great to help new disc golfers get more distance. I've purchased Diamonds for my wife and 8 year old son to use.
