If you are trying your hand at a destroyer but aren't really getting the distance you think you should disc down a little and try an orc you may be surprised with the result.

    -Reviewing in champion plastic-

a good description for this disc: beefy. It has a deeper rim than most drivers and does not have much glide. Throwing it backhand I was able to get about 370 feet with it but throwing forehand I could not get much over 200 feet with it, and I throw up to 400 feet forehand. This is a great driver for power players and windy conditions but it is not very workable in calm conditions

The orc is a great disc. One of the first discs I ever bought was a champion orc. 10 speed discs have just about a perfect rim width for me since I have smaller hands. Both of my champion ones are pretty flat but not board flat like a firebird.

They are not as overstable as the numbers suggest. I just put a brand new champion orc in the bag and I would say it is close to a 10/5/0/2. I can throw out to about 375-400 consistently with a destroyer and I can throw the orc to about 340-350. When thrown with that much power my new one goes very straight before fading out at the end. Even with a little headwind it has a small flip up before fading out. It has nowhere near the fade of my main destroyer which isn't too overstable. It also doesn't have the turn of that destroyer.

My second Champion Orc is about 2.5 years old. It has beaten in to be a bomber. I would say I still get it consistently 350 but if I hit it right it could rival a "meh" shot from my destroyers. It is very much like a long fairway driver. It has a little turn and a little fade. I would say now it is maybe a tad more stable than a brand new Beast. When thrown with a little bit of hyzer it flips up and pushes straight nearly the entire flight. I would say this Orc is more like a 10/5/-1/1

The Orc is my favorite mold in all of disc golf.

It started when I found an old champion orc in some blackberries that had been out there for so many years the stamp was long faded.

The orc is the definition of a "control driver". The lower glide produced by the very blunt nose means that when it starts to fade, it just drops out of the sky instead of producing a hard skip to the left. This limits the distance potential, but that's not the point of this disc. I throw my Orcs on shots between 320 and 400 feet.

I think the Orc compares more closely to Innova's 9 &10-speed drivers (Valkyrie, Thunderbird, Savant, Beast, PD, Invictus) than it does to the 11-speeds (Wraith, Krait, etc.) This means it plays like a long fairway instead of a short distance driver.

I carry 4 Orcs in my bag:

171g flippy Star which flies like a Valkyrie. It can be used for turnovers or powered down for very straight shots in the woods.

175g Star which flips up to flat and doesn't fade that much when thrown full power

175g new gummyish Champ which flies like the flight numbers. Flips a little but finishes hard

175g old champion which has no turn and gets used into headwinds or if it needs to skip left at the end.

I think everyone should throw some discs with less glide. The misconception is that you need glidey discs to go far, but glide doesn't impact discs much until they start fading. Especially if you throw Thunderbirds, give the orc a try. They go about the same distance but the Orc is much more accurate in my opinion.

I know some players (mostly forehand dominant) who swear by these things, but I've messed around with Orcs in a few different plastics and they never really clicked with me. I found it to be a good, not great disc, that was too much of a tweener. It's a fine mold if you throw both forehand and backhand, as it works well for both, though it seems more forehand players tend to gravitate towards it (maybe because Sexton bags one?). For me I get better distance both forehand and backhand with my Wraith and more control with my Thunderbird. Just wasn't really a slot for this one. I wouldn't recommend this to beginners unless you have a solid forehand foundation in tennis or baseball. Then this might be a good disc to try. For a player progressing up to 10 speeds, I would also probably suggest a less stable 10 speed to start with, again unless you're FH dominant. A fine mold, but one that I think has somewhat been overshadowed and crowded out with all the other discs in Innova's lineup.

This was one of my very first discs I had ever bought when I first learned about the sport. It is an alright disc although there are way better options for beginners out there and in my opinion better options for players in general. I would say that this driver was great for me learning forehand shots and how to throw forehand. That is basically all I ever used it for. I never seen any consistency with it though and I never found myself going back to it after I learned more and started building my bag with discs I knew I would use/need for my game personally. I can't knock it too hard so I would definitely still say to go out and try one for yourself and maybe it'll be the perfect disc for you. It does have a smaller rim size so that also helps out for newbie players and players with smaller hands.

When I was still a beginner, I went from a DX Eagle (which I loved) to a Wraith. I got caught up with the Wraith marketing of being one of Climo's preferred disc and I was not ready to throw it. I grip locked that Wraith so much, I eventually lost it on an errant throw. Then came my Orc. This was a great disc to transition to after my Wraith mishaps (which I now bag again, two Wraiths, and love as as a straight distance driver). I feel like Teebirds, Thunderbirds and Orcs are all in the same lineage. Some years ago I was stoked to see Sexton's in the bag and his love for Orcs. It is an underappreciated disc.

This is another classic disc in innovas famous 5 -1 3 lineups. If you like a destroyer or wraith this is a great disc that is just a little bit slower. I have enjoyed throwing this on both forehand and backhand no matter how you throw it has always been comfortable. I would not suggest the orc for beginners it is too overstable and too fast, you will not get a good flight. My champion Orc has been great for a while not beating in too fast. I feel this disc is underrated by the wraith and destroyer, would love to see more people throwing it.

This has been a mainstay in my bag for years. In my opinion it is a slightly more stable Beast, with a more aggressive fade. As I've grown in ability the Orc has continued to be a great RHBH driver. I switch between my Champion Orc and Viking Berserker for backhand drives.

I picked up a used champion orc this summer because I knew Nate Sexton had thrown them mine is about 168 weight and it instantly went into the bag because of its usability in the woods and any shot that I needed good distance while remaining under the trees. The champion plastic is great because it has keep its shape and has held up well for the past 4 months on top of that it fits in the hand well and can be used for sidearms. I would recommend this disc to anyone that wants a reliable disc that is easy to throw and fun to use.

Disc - 168 Innova Champion Orc

Feel - The orc is a disc that is comfortable is most players hands. It has a fairly narrow rim but it is a bit deep. I enjoy this feel in a disc because it feels like I can really grip into a disc that way. The champion plastic is extremely durable but can be a bit slippery depending on the conditions.

Flight - The orc's flight is one that I desire in a control driver. It does not turn much but has good glide and has a nice, consistent fade. It is one of the most thrown discs in my bag because I can always trust that this disc will go where I need it to. It flies a bit shorter than my max distance drivers but offers excellent control.

Overall - The orc is an underrated disc in my opinion. Because it's an older mold, many people look past it. I think that it is a disc that can feel the needs of many players because of its controllable flight and consistency. I would recommend this disc to many players except for beginners who are working on their form as this disc could be too overstable for them.

My first disc in a plastic besides DX, the orc is an amazing driver that gives the thrower a great sense of control. Just overstable enough to be able to through great hyzer lines, but enough high speed turn to throw hyzer flips and powerful straight drives. Love keeping this in the bag for shooting narrow gaps and any time I need precision on a 300+ drive.

My buddy had a champion orc that he let me throw to see if I like how orc's fly. I can tell you from watching him and throwing it myself that the orc is a really nice disc. I did not end up liking it enough to bag one myself. When I was throwing this disc I could get some flip up if I threw it hard and flat and then a solid finish at the end of the flight. I was not able to flip it up a lot from a hyzer angle but it could have been from the lack of overall throws I had. When I watched my buddy throw this thing forehand I always was amazed. He would put it on a slight hyzer and get this thing to fly like a lazer for a very long time. I think a lot of people could get a similar flight out of the orc if they spend the time to learn the disc, I just did not fall in love with it immediately.

This is a touchy disc but once you get the handle on the speed/power you will quickly start throwing this disc on more and more holes if you can get it to hyzer flip you will see the orc scream down the fairway on a nice straight line until finally slowing down and fading to the left

I've carried an Orc in my bag on and off for 10 years. I predominantly use this for sidearm throws between 275-300ft where I need a nice hyzer line or for a wide and high 250ft overstable type throw.  It is a utility disc for me through and through but used to be a main driver for me for years.  Don't let the 10 speed rating make you second guess this disc, it certainly has the ability to meet so many bag requirements.

Depending on the weight and plastic the Orc can be somewhat beginner friendly, for newer players looking to dabble in distance drivers, I would suggest a lighter weight Pro Orc. I am an intermediate level player with a moderate arm speed. Average distance is 380-ish, maybe 410 if "I grit my teeth and give her hell". For distance shots I primarily throw max weight star wraiths; however, I found a brand new Champion I-dye Orc (171g) in the used bin at Play It Again and decided to test her out. Man, am I glad that I did. I haven't thrown an Orc since I started playing about ten years ago and it was too much of a beefcake for me at that time. Now that I have improved my arm speed, the Orc has become one of my go to's for tunnel shots where my Teebird's aren't quite long enough. Thrown flat RHBH the Orc will pop up and ride right, ever so slightly. Then have a subtle, yet reliable fade. When I really mash on the Orc with a touch of anny, I have blown past baskets that are 360 to 370 ft out. If you haven't tried the Orc yet, you need to.

These are very thunderbird like, maybe tick faster with tick more of high speed turn. In my mind I wouldn't bag both. The Starfire is also very similar. These feel great and are very verstatile if you have the power. they are good for anhyzers that pan and slowy come out, good for moderate headwinds, low ceilings to 380, and flat shots that you want to finsh with solid reliable fade. This and the Valkyrie were the first discs I got around the 350' mark (both were DX).

There's just something about this disc. I feel very confident every time I pull it out of the bag. The speed 10 is a great sweet-spot for me on wooded courses for accurate, straight forehands. I can get a nice full flight with a comfortable throw. I find it very similar to the much more popular Wraith, but I prefer the Orc.

I just bought a new champion orc 171 grams and I was really surprised by the stability. I bought is because Nate Sexton throws them a lot for controlled distance sidearms and I thought it would be a good stable forehand disc. Wrong. It was way more stable than I thought it would be, but I really liked how hard it finishes! I use it both forehand and backhand shots that I need to hold a hyzer and dump hard at the end and it has been great! Only reason I didn't put 5 stars is because I feel like the flight numbers don't do it justice.

The PFN 163 Champion Orc is money! One of my farthest hyzer flip sidearm discs. I acquired a used 171 Pro Orc and discovered this disc is amazing for low ceiling shots. When thrown flat it goes dead straight, has a late flip and then slight fade back. The Champion can be thrown real low hyzer like 2ft off the ground and pops up to flat to about 4-5ft and flies dead straight. The Orc goes just as far as my Z Thrasher but more accurate. Love this Disc!!!

I have three 167g champ orcs.  It's the Eagles bigger brother and flies basically identical to the Eagle.  I used to only forehand this disc until it beats in and then it'll flip. That's when I realized I needed to change the discs I forehand.  I'd still forehand this disc over my thunderbird but only in a tailwind.  This disc has turned out to be an amazing compliment to the thunderbird, eagle, and valkyrie. All of which I bag.  It can handle a headwind but that fade seems to change from a 3 to a 1 depending on how strong that headwind is.

This is not a beginner friendly disc, go with the Eagle first of you're looking for these kind of fight numbers.  I would say the numbers are spot on once beaten in.  Brand new it has no turn for me. I'm also only throwing it like 80% or less though.  Also, Nate Sexton bags one even.

What I love about this disc is when I need it to go straight for most of its flight to fade left and decently so at the finish. You can skip hyzer this disc too, like the Eagle. Great for hyzer shots I would say.  Gotta keep that nose down to get it to stay flat in fight.

The champion Orc was the first "real" driver I used when I began playing DG in 2004. At the time it was basically Innova's fastest and longest disc (along with the Beast). Despite being fairly fast, the Orc is mellow enough that you don't need a ton of arm to make it fly decent. Its a perfect driver for shots 350-400'. It has some high speed turn, but also a reliable late fade. It does well in the wind and is highly versatile. I haven't bagged the Orc in a long time, but I still think its a wonderful disc. I moved on to the Starfire, which does all the same things an Orc does, but is slightly more stable.

The Orc is staple in my bag. I throw a 175g Champ Orc and it fits a good niche in my bag. For me, it's a perfect match for those who can't quite master throwing a Wraith, but need something more than a Beast. Brand new Champ Orcs may seem like they are too much out of the box, but beat them in and they will become a favorite. I will use my Orc for hyzer-flip forehand shot. For me, on a power forehand throw, I will release with a hyzer, it will pick up to flat, slightly turn towards the left, and then finish right.

For me, my Orc is reserved for my thumber disc. It just fits in my hand much more comfortably. It's not the furtherest flying thumber disc in my bag, but it's super predictable. If you have a decent thumber, a Firebird will fly further, but I know exactly how my Orc will flip and I can drop it with some pretty good accuracy.

Have two, one light weight and one heavier weight. One of my favorite discs. Very consistent all of the time, and it works great for my beginner arm. The heavier version had a bit of a learning curve (get it, curve, because it was overstable!), but once I became more consistent it became a go-to disc. The light weight gives me a good S-Curve with a consistent fade-left finish, but it is not as reliable in windier conditions.

Everyone needs an overstable distance driver, and this is a good one. I have one in champion plastic, and I use it for any backhand shot I need to make sure I don't turn over. It has a good release,so I don't griplock it much. Forehand, this disc will give me a good S, but will always finish with a good fade. I like that consistency. I sometimes go to higher speed discs on longer shots, but I like the 10 speed on this disc... Some higher speed discs will hyzer out on me on release if I don't keep them flat. This disc doesn't do that. I always know where my orc will go, and while it is by no means a universal disc, it is certainly very good for the shots I need it for.

The Orc used to be my best disc for forehand throws. The Rim wasn't too thick and I was able to get a nice S curve out of my throws with it. It's a good disc, but not one that I carry in my bag anymore.
