Mortar... love it. My crew and I reviewed this disc and it surprised the hell out of me. Absolutely great feel in the hand and it feels like it comes out of your hand so smoothly. I am not typically a mid-range thrower so when we got this thing to review, I didn't have high hopes for it. But for some reason this disc decided to go above and beyond my expectations. It has a bunch of glide for an overstable mid. Most OS mids are very dumpy and don't glide much. This one seemed to want to keep flying. Of course this will be different for different throwers but for me, I really dug the glide and fade flight path. I could definitely see myself bagging this thing. One of my favorite mids on the market. Check out my crew's full review of the Mortar here...

The Mortar is a super overstable, small diameter mid range that is great for fighting wind and for landing upshots. I really enjoy throwing Gators, and this disc is somewhat similar, but it is missing the bead. I found it to be very stable, but not quite the meathook that a gator can be. This could be good or bad depending on your uses for it. For many, this will be a much more workable disc, while others may be disappointed that it is not quite as stable. I really liked the disc, but not enough to replace a Gator. I can see why several pros really like this disc though.

My favorite disc ever to throw forehands. I threw vip harps for a long time but I wanted something with the same stability but a cleaner release out of the hand, and this perfectly fit that slot for me. It fits great in the hand for forehand shots, not too deep or shallow. It will flex a little if you put a lot of power behind it, but will always finish back and sit down where it hits the ground. Great for pitch hyzers where you just need something to get up and down on the same line you release it. Especially great on sloping or fast greens because this disc just seems to stick to the ground really well! Would recommend also for people trying to learn forehand because it flies very true to how forehands are supposed to, and performs well for what most backhand dominant players need a forehand to do.

I have just started throwing this my FrontlineX mortar and I really like it. Many people describe the feel of this disc as a beadless gator and I would agree with one exception. Although most mortars are beadless, the 1.4 run does have a microbead. I was a little disappointed when mine came in and I saw a sticker on the disc explaining this because I prefer sidearming beadless discs. That being said, it is good for both sidearm and backhand throws. It is a more stable than my Roc3's less stable than my gator, and holds up well in headwinds when thrown backhand. I do not like, forehanding this disc into a headwind. It can handle a small headwind sidearm but I feel more comfortable going to my firebird in stronger winds, even at shorter distances. I do recommend this disc and I would love to try this disc without the microbead and in recon plastic.

Great overstable midrange disc. As many have pointed out, it's very similar to an Innova Gator but it's beadless. I've only been able to throw the Frontline-X Mortar, but I look forward to getting my hands on a Recon Mortar as I've heard those are really nice! I feel like the fact that it's beadless really helps me with sidearm throws - it seems to come out of the hand a bit better. It's beefy, but nothing too crazy. Fairly experienced players really ought to pick one of these up and give it a try.

This is a really overstable midrange, but so far I'm not a fan of the Mortar. For as soft and floppy as this disc is, I'm impressed with how overstable it really is. I typically like the predictability of very overstable discs that help keep my throwing errors on the fade side of things.

My Mortar is 175g in Frontline-X plastic. The soft plastic feels nice in the hand, but I really haven't had a lot of success throwing it. Soft grippy plastic like this has a tendency to stick to my hand a little longer which allows for excellent rips. However, I really struggled getting as much distance out of this disc as I do my Prodigy M1. I also had a tendency to throw this disc a lot higher than I wanted, and was consistently undershooting.

One thing that could be a pro for the Mortar is how much it resists skipping. The plastic is very soft, and it has a sharp bottom to the rim which digs into the ground. A lot of the time when I use overstable mids is because I need to curve around an obstacle, so getting extra distance from the ground skip is often a plus. That plus doesn't happen with the skip resistant Mortar. It's fun that Hyzer Bomb now has a line of discs, and this one is rather unique, but it just isn't for me.
