I'd give the Mortar six stars if I could!  It is an excellent candidate for the overstable mid slot in your bag.  It has the stability to fight the wind and the torque resistance to be a go to forehand mid.  The Mortar also has sneaky glide so you can get useful distance to attack distant pins that a total meathook may not reach.  It also feels great in both backhand and forehand grips.  The mortar can be hard to find, but don't hesitate to pick one up if you get the chance.  You will not regret it!

This is an overstable mid range and id say can find a spot in most peoples bag. Its a flat disc. It isn't to deep and my favorite part no bead. You could compare the disc to md5, gator, and a caiman. It can handle a lot of power it won't flip over on you. You can trust it in a head wind. When throwing it on anhyzer it comes out fairly quickly before fade out. When thrown flat it pushes straight and fades quite a bit. For forehand throws its really comfortable in the hand. It being really overstable you can trust it not to turnover. This is a great mid range and is very true to its numbers.

The mortar is a solid overstable mid range disc. While it isn't as overstable as something like the justice, i prefer to use this as my backhand overstable mid because of it's higher glide rating. I love the fact that even as a 5 speed you can throw it hard and flat and it won't turn over like other discs of similar flight ratings. I used to bag the roc3 but never was happy with how i would turn it over if thrown hard. This is reliable and will stay straight for a bit and then have that predictable fade at the end. It fits very comfortable in the hand and can handle some forehand torque as well.

The Mortar from hyzerbomb is a smaller diameter mid range with a hard fade and neutral glide that make this a true game-changer for many shot types. A staple in the bag of many forehand players and pros, I would recommend this to a beginner for a forehand approach disc. It is excellent at fighting the wind and maintaining a line, while landing on a dime! The Mortar has enough glide and stability to handle powerful backhand throws and flex lines as well, and is generally comfortable in the hand, given it’s smaller rim and diameter. Give this versatile disc a chance to reshape your lines and your game! 5/5 stars!!!

RHFH, Recon Mortar 175g - This disc extremely consistent. I do not have the best angle control, but it fights out of any flex that I give it, while having nice distance and minimal skip or roll away. I bag a Westside Harp as well, and I think that the Mortar is just a tick faster with a bit more glide, which has made it a disc I never take out of my bag. I trust this shot as an approach disc from 250ft in, and I really enjoy using it off the tee. Its rim is very similar to a fairway driver, which makes it very comfortable for my throw. I could not recommend this disc enough!

My favorite approach disc for both FH and BH.  Very little skip and likes to park itself by the basket.  Similar to a gator but much better feeling because it does not have the big bead of the gator.  Different runs of this disc have different stabilities.  1.3 is a straight stable flier where as the 1.5 run is much more stable and has less glide.  Great feeling disc with a consistent flight.

The Mortar is the most famous Hyzerbomb offering for a reason. It is an extremely useful disc. It is highly overstable but seems to have just enough glide to get around obstacles before dumping. The notable thing about it is that it feels better in the hand than any comparable disc I've felt, be it forehand or backhand. The only ones that come close are the Anvil and Quake. It's beautiful in the pearly premium plastic. Get one and support Big Jerm!

The mortar is one of my favorite discs in my bag. It is the only disc I have two aces with, I carry backups, and always grab the new plastics. It has great stability for smooth forehands, it is reliable and not glidey, so it is nice in the wind. I'll use it to putt when the wind picks up and it has a clean release. If I really crank on a mortar on a slight any fir distance, I can just touch 300. It is a very consistent disc, not the farthest or fastest. It is the midrange equivalent of a beat in Sexton firebird.

The Mortar is a very predictable midrange that would be great in the bag for anybody who has some experience with playing disc. The disc does have a pretty hard fade to it, which is great for shorter shots that need to move a decent ways to the side.

The Mortar is fantastic for both forehand and backhand shots. The rim is very comfortable in the hand for both shots, though I do think it is a little deep for really comfortable forehand shots and actually throw the Westside Anvil instead.

One of the great things about the Mortar is that the disc likes to just sit down once it gets to the ground. When thrown on a higher spike the disc has some roll out potential, but most shots will grab the ground and just stick. I can see why the likes of Big Jerm and Nate Sexton love this disc for their overstable approach shots

I'll just start by saying that the mortar is one of the most useful discs in my bag.  It doesn't get used on every round but it's in there incase I need it.  This is my go to disc for shorter approaches up to about 240' that need to get left on a RHBH throw.  There's a hole at South Mountain DGC in Bethlehem PA, Hole 11, it's a down hill hard left shot.  225'+/- with a mando on the left side.  I throw the mortar on a spike hyzer angle and let it hit about 20' short and then skip up under the pin.  I've hit cage, top of the basket, skipped threw the chains.  This is the perfect hole for the mortar.  I'll also use it for short forehand approaches.  All in all the mortar is a fantastic disc.  I used to bag a standard metal flake gator but once I threw the mortar I was hooked.

This has become an indisposable utility disc for me. It excels at control approach shots, both forehand and backhand. I loved my Star Gator, but the Mortar feels stunningly better in the hand - especially for flicks.

I didn't feel this run was as overstable as previous runs.  I can put it on a touch of anhyzer (RHFH) and it will barely fade back.  Thorwn backhand it will finish left but not nearly as overstable as a Gator or a DD Justice.

    Green 175g Recon Mortar

I have been bagging the Big Jerm Mortar (The 1.4 version) for about a year now and I still love it like the day I got it. The flight is predictably overstable and the disc is flat. Feels great in the hand and always seems to produce a good release. This run of Mortar is not as OS as I was expecting, but it is still super useful. I use it more as a throwing putter than I do as an overstable mid.

The Mortar has a mythical status thanks to it's prominence in the bags of Nate Sexton and Jeremy Koling, which may disguise the fact that this is an exceptional disc.

Recon, AKA Color Glow plastic, feels great in the hand, durable like champion plastic but gummy and a bit grippier that gives you a lot of confidence in your grip even if the weather isn't perfect. The Mortar has a similar feel to a flat MD3 or beadless Gator.

In flight, this disc will never turn over on you. It's a great disc when you need to nail a line in a headwind. Where this disc really shines though is in approach shots. If you get your distance right and pop this disc up on a hyzer line, it will find the target every time. The confidence I have in my approach game has improved significantly since I picked up the Mortar.

The Mortar is a disc that requires some power in order to maximize its capabilities. You should have intermediate power at least before you think about picking up the Mortar, otherwise you'll have a fade machine.

Overall, this is a utility disc. It occupies a space that has few competetors: a super overstable, beadless midrange. For people who don't like a big bead and can't find a suitable overstable midrange, the Mortar should be top of the list for you.

Fights wind really well for overstable approach shots(forehand or backhand) or longer mid range shots when you need the disc to end hyzer reliably. Does exactly what you expect every time.

Picked it up in the store felt great in my hands and even better coming out of them! Love at first throw. Super consistent flight path no matter the conditions. I definitely recommend this disc to anyone who enjoys over stable predictable discs that go where they are supposed to.

In my opinion, this disc is the best overstable mid on the market. It has good glide but very reliable fade. if you thow it low this disc will get very good skip as well.  Playing in the very windy conditions in Kansas I can always throw this disc into a head wind and know its not going to turn over.

The Recon Mortar is a great disc, if you like domey gators. For a couple of years it seemed Innova was making really really domey gators in the glow and sparkle champion plastic. They weren't any less stable, just had more glide and felt a whole lot different. The recon Mortar I have is just like all of those gators. Great utility disc!

Watch for the flat version, coming soon!!
