The Wasp is one of my personal favorites in my bag. I use this strictly for spike hyzers and it definitely helps when you're in a tight rut. I've gotten three fairway aces with it so far.

The wasp is a workhorse, plain and simple. I love throwing it because it will do the same thing every time the same way. This is not one of those elegant laser straight mids that weaves through trees and elegantly sits next to the basket. This is a disc you pull out when you need to throw a stock hyzer around an obstacle from 100-200 ft out. It will fade, but not in a cataclysmic way that results in a big roll away.

I prefer Chariots and Trusts for driving with mids, their flights are a bit more smooth and they carry longer than my Wasps.  But once I get to a stand still approach, I pull out my wasp to fly straight for 150ft and then predictably fade forward for the last 50 ft

I keep trying other mids thinking they will get me something I am missing, but I always come back to my trusty old Wasps. When you need to stick that approach, you need something you can rely on, and wasps will do the dirty work every time.  Every disc golfer needs a good ole reliable in the bag, and wasps are them.

I've had mine for a while so it's gotten some time to beat up, and wow. I was never so big on the roc3 no matter how much I tried, but this clicked. Flat top, solid bead, and when thrown flat goes very straight and then fades predictably hard. I use it for straight to slight left finishing shots RHBH up to about 300, for reference. Not for everyone, but the slightly beefier cousin to the Buzzz that I much prefer

I have only thrown one z-line wasp, so it may have been an exception, but this was not at all what I was hoping for. I was hoping for an overstable mid that rode straight until fading hard at the end of its flight. What I got was a beefy disc that was too overstable and not glidey enough to be a workhorse overstable mid, but not overstable enough to be a utility disc like a justice. Again, maybe I just happened to get a dud, but this disc was not anything close to what it was advertised to be.

Honestly not a big fan. It is not overstable enough for flick shots - my form isn't all that consistent but I really do not like this disc for flicks. I will get something more overstable.

This was my first midrange disc from Discraft that I got. I originally struggled with it because i would try so hard to throw it straight and it would always end up fading out and I would end up well left of my target unless I threw it extremely right. As I got better and learned how to put it on an anhyzer line or to utilize the hyzer shot I became a lot more successful. I loved using this to learn how to do those wide hyzer spikes that just stick next to the pin. I have since put this guy away on the shelf and replaced it with a Malta because I can get better distance and shaping with it but it still is a wonderful disc that I enjoyed throwing.

A nice overstable midrange that can handle some tourque. I don't bag this due to the bead, but it flies true to the numbers when I have taken it out onto the course. I don't love the Z plastic, it gets quite slick in the Alabama humidity.

    177+g Z Wasp

I consider the Wasp to be Discraft's roc. It's a beaded stable-overstable disc that can cover your midrange needs in various plastics. My fresh max weight Z wasp was pretty flat and flew similarly to a seasoned champ roc3. Its lack of glide allow you to dial the distance in nicely. Its pretty straight with a moderate gentle fade at the end of its flight. More overstable than the Buzzz but not really that different and not unworkable, you can get some turn to it and work it on some nice lines. It was able to cut through a slight headwind nicely, but I was a little disappointed in the lack of overstability overall. I was hoping for something more overstable out of the wasp, but not drone stable. In normal conditions I was able to put this on some nice soft flex shots, hyzers, and lazerbeam straight shots, but it wasn't the beefy disc I was looking for. In a moderately strong headwind this thing was unpredictable and I couldn't trust it. I suppose that's why discraft made the malta?

I'm really loving z plastic right now, stiff but not too stiff, and the grip on the inside of the rim is money, but for me the wasp felt bulky in my hand and the rim was uncomfortable. Couldn't get a confident grip with the wasp.

Overall its a good disc and I see why people bag it, you could cover all of your mid shots with a wasp in a few different plastics and a more overstable compliment for wind fighting. The wasp just didn't do anything special for me and won't kick anything out of my bag. I prefer the flight and feel of the bard for my overstable to straight shots, and if I couldn't throw bards I'd throw rocs.

One of my favorite discs and generally my go to mid range. Has great utility and performs well on both backhands and forehands. Just gotta be careful not to elevate it too much for the overstability to fade it out.

This is a must have overstable disc for any intermediate player. I think for new players it might not be the best disc to learn with but once you find yourself needing something a little on the stable side check out the wasp. It is a perfect disc for people who do not want a hyzer right out of the hand, but rather something that flies straight and ends with a super consistent finish. I have been able to throw this thing straight for 70% of its flight and then it begins to fade out at a quick speed but not so fast it doesn't gain any extra distance. The wasp will start to fade out but still glide adding extra distance that a lot of overstable mid ranges do not give you. There is a bead which may lead to people not liking it, but I think the feels nice in the hand and the bead helps keep the discs stability even after a good amount of wear. The z plastic hold up really well and is super nice feeling. I think anyone that needs an overstable mid range should check out the wasp.

Another fantastic midrange offering from Discraft, a perfect overstable compliment to a Buzzz/Comet midrange setup, but much more workable than ole reliable Zones. It was a fantastic feel, but if your not into beads, you may feel completely different. This has quickly become my go to midrange, and I find myself throwing it in situations were a buzzz/comet may be better suited, simply because throwing this thing is a blast. It flies straight, with a healthy, but not dumpy fade like you would see in a zone/drone, and can get VERY good distance. Definitely my favorite offering from Discraft in their midrange lineup. If they made this in ESP plastic, it would be the best disc ever. Sadly I'm stuck with Z and $20 CT Jawbreaker.

If you need an overstable complement to your Buzzz this is your disc.  It will get some turn when thrown hard into a headwind.  If you are looking for a pure beef mid-range then look towards the Drone.  If you want something that flies consistently like a Buzzz but has a little bit more fade, this is your disc.  The Wasp does have a beaded rim.

Amazing disc. It's more over-stable than a Roc3, but not dramatically so. Just got an ace with my Wasp the other day. It has enough glide to really go the distance you need, but not enough to glide away from your target. Definitely the best compliment to the Buzzz.

ROC thrower here... This works well with the KC roc Seasoner.. .if that is a word... I love the KC roc... but it takes time to season them to the sweet spot so often I look to Discraft to fill the void... this is the overstable champ roc you are looking for.... IDK why the Buzz is compared to the roc... this is a true 5/5/0/3 at the end you won't turn this over in Z plastic... I play advanced generally and I can throw a driver a little over 335 ft for arm speed reference...

Hands down my most reliable and predictable disc in my bag. I have bagged this disc for years. Mine is a 173g in Z plastic. As far as I know, I am the only player in my area that bags one. They just don't know what they are missing. Most of them prefer a Bard or a Roc3 instead. Nothing against those 2 discs, but the Wasp just feels so much better in my hand. It has a shallower rim and flatter top than the Bard. The Wasp does have a bead, but that doesn't bother me and I still get nice clean releases. Upon release the Wasp goes pretty straight with predicable fade. I can also put it on a hyzer line to get around close obstacles. This disc is an old classic that should get more love.

The Wasp is the cheap OS premium Roc, Roc throwers have been wanting.  Pair a Wasp with a Comet and you can cover 95% of your midrange shots.  Flat Wasp are more OS than the (rarer) domey Wasps.  I pair my max weight flat Z with a pair of Comets (Z and beat X) as well whatever Roc or 2 that the weather conditions allow, due to the Wasp not having a stock midgrade or baseline plastic.  If you find the Roc3 to be not OS enough grab a Wasp and you won't be disappointed, I know I wasn't.

At first I didn't realize how good this disc was going to be for my game. For a RHBH, this disc is very reliable as a midrange for up to 250' or so. You can get enough hyzer to wrap around trees quickly in a wooded course or get plenty of distance when ripping it flat before fading at the end. Sandwiched between its brothers in the Buzzz and the Hornet, I think this disc is useful in just about anybody's bag.

The Wasp is a beaded stable to overstable midrange from Discraft. Unlike many of the midrange offerings from Discraft, the Wasp has a bead. It is flat top and reminds me a lot of a premium Roc in feel and in flight. This disc flies nice and straight with some strong forward fade at the end of the flight, making it a nice disc for windy days. As the disc seasons a bit it starts to lose the HSS, making it really straight. It holds up to some power, and could easily become a go to disc for minimalists looking to cycle one mold.

The Wasp is a great disc, probably my favorite midrange from Discraft. On a forehand shot, the Wasp would go dead straight for me and bury itself face first right where I would finish pointing after the throw. As I became more experienced, I realized I couldn't quite control the Wasp as much as I needed to. It would glide past normal midrange shots for me, so I would throw a Zone or Buzzz OS, and for farther-than-midrange shots, I would throw fairways or distance drivers. For someone just getting into disc golf and doing it the right way by gradually increasing the speed of their discs, I would say this is a perfect disc to start dabbling in the overstable side. It definitely taught me good forehand control.

I go to my Z wasp for mid range drives off the tee pad or for headwind shots about 250 ft out, very dependable disc for wooded courses. Also use it for forehands and some soft forehand flex shots. I look at the wasp as a gator with more glide. Very useful disc

    My new favorite mid.

Great amount of glide. I can sometimes get this disc as far as my control drives.

Flies super straight for a while then has a good reliable fade at the end. Wouldn't say it's quite a fade of 3 but it's more than just a 2.

This disc is really a great everyday mid. If the buzz seems too flippy for you, reach for the wasp. I only rate if 4 stars instead of 5 because I didn't get a 3 fade, I would say more like a 2 and if you really power into this thing it can be just about frozen rope straight. I havent encountered much, if any turn, unless you put some off axis torque on it, then you will see some turn. Do not think this is a meat hook. It is much more suited to slower arm speeds than you should think by looking at the flight chart and numbers. This is all from a RHBH point of view. Max distance drives with a flippy distance driver are about 300-310 for me so keep that in mind.

Looking for the next step up in stability from a Buzzz then the WASP has you covered. Its a great OS compliment to the Buzzz and for an Intermediate level or higher player it will provide a good deal of stability on those windy days and it is a good mid for shots that need to finish with a decent mount of hzer. Its not super OS but it will hold up decently in the wind 20 mph or less.

I bag one and have for 5 years now and it does what it is supposed to do go straight and finish left with a predictable fade. This is an overlooked mid range IMO and could easily find itself in more players bags.

A Roc By Any Other Name...

I've been playing for a long time, and I remember when the Wasp was first released by Discraft. To be honest, it was simply their answer to the Innova Rancho Roc. Innova is well-known for only making Champion Rancho Rocs available at USDGC....Discraft simply one upped them by making premium Wasp's available at all times.

the Wasp is consistent. Every Wasp you get will fly and feel the same. Small but noticeable bead with a flat top, the Wasp slices well through wind, but isn't super overstable. Thrown flat, the Wasp will go flat and fade while penetrating forward. Holds great hyzers, and is an awesome forehand mid. If you are searching for premium Rocs at a better price, the Wasp is what you really need.

Every time I see a "buzzz v roc" debate I cringe knowing that those two discs are not the ones that should be in the conversation next to each other. Any who has thrown both will tell you it's really Wasp v Roc. From throwing both, I can say I think you can't go wrong with either!

The Wasp is a flat top roc and in my experience it goes out a little further than my roc has. Thrown with some zip, it's straight with a slight fade. Thrown firm and fluid, it has a dependable fade to the ground. I have 4 holes at my home course that are Wasp off the tee holes, and I consistently park birdies with it. I can trust it to thread through the narrow gap in the trees and find a home beneath the basket. I've hit chains twice, and the pipe once with my Wasp. When that elusive first ace comes to me, my money is on the Wasp for it.

I don't think the Wasp v Roc debate has a loser, both are really solid OS mids. The only thing that separates them for me is my Wasp is pink, and with an all pink bag that's what I roll with.

I feel like the Wasp is the forgotten mid-range in the Discraft lineup.  I personally tend to favor it to both the Buzzz and Comet.  The Wasp is a predictable straight flier with a moderate fade.  The overstable characteristics make it resistant to turning, which I sometimes get from the Buzzz if I'm trying to push it past about 200'.  Wasp is also the best mid-range I've used for thumbers, when that is called for.

I have a 170 g wasp, which hasn't quite worked out to be what I was hoping.  For one thing, it never felt that good in my hand.  I suspect this is mainly due to its bead.  It also seems to be something of a tweener in my bag.

It is overstable enough that it doesn't turn over when I throw it hard and flat in calm conditions (which is good), but it fades more than I like to be a tunnel disc.

Unfortunately it is not overstable enough for me to throw it hard into a moderate headwind without turning right some.

Because of this, it has recently lost its role in my bag to some other mids that perform better in these circumstances.

When I found myself in need of a more overstable compliment to my Buzzz, I researched many many discs that may fit the bill. After narrowing things down, it came down to two - the Discraft Wasp and the MVP Tensor. Thankfully, I had the money to buy both and have them audition for the slot. First few sessions of field work and rounds of disc golf I thought for sure that the Wasp would win. It felt very very similar to the Buzzz in my hand (has a near identical profile aside from a bigger bead), and was making some great shots. Unfortunately, the true test came - a Headwind. This is where the Wasp lost it's slot. As I was expecting this to be a true windfighter and still give me that consistent fade, it did nothing but straighten out and end that way, while the Tensor proved to stick to it's guns and give me the fade I was looking for. After further work with both, I found the Tensor to be more favorable overall, and the Wasp is simply a backup, or perhaps a replacement for my Buzzz in those truly windy days. It's not a bad disc by any means, but it's definitely not what I was looking for.

Like most people, I purchsed the Wasp because I wanted a midrange that was slightly overstable.  The Buzzz is my go-to midrange for most shots, so the Wasp made the most sense.  After trying it out, I was a bit disappointed with how little fade it had.  The flight path was not so disimilar to my Buzzz, so it didn't do the trick for those overstable shots that I had intended to use it for.

Still, it is a good disc, has a slight fade which is very predictable, and is a midrange that you can really put some force behind and it will still get you exactly where you would like it to go.  Want something with a little fade and predictable flightpath?  Go with the Wasp.  Want something that will be overstable and get you around obstacles?  Go with the Drone.

This is the best driving mid for power throwers. Ever. I throw a max weight red elite z wasp, and this thing is amazing. I use it for all throws under 350 feet. Throw it flat with lots of snap, it goes straight. Throw it with hyzer, it goes to the left (RHBH). Throw it with anhyzer, it goes right (RHBH). Fresh out of the box it has a noticable fade at the end of the flight. However, bang it into a few trees and that fade pretty much goes away. My favorite driving mid! Get one! Or two!

My Z Wasp gets a lot of use in the woods. Fairly overstable and the fade isn't overpowering, just enough to allow for some shot shaping to avoid trees. Just like most of Discrafts mids, this disc is pretty easy to aim. My Wasp doesn't have as much distance as my Buzzz or Buzzz SS as it fades out kinda early. Because of that I would recommend pairing it with a more neutral or understable mid and not using it for a primary mid range. This disc is great, and fills a very useful slot slot in my bag.

Great disc, just not quite as flexible as the Buzzz. Flattens out of an anhyzer better than the Buzzz, finishes with a larger fade when thrown flat, and holds a hyzer line almost too well - it'll often land on edge and roll. Grip width is perfect for just about everyone, this disc pairs great with a Buzzz to almost entirely fill out the mid-range portion of your bag.
