The surge is a great disc. It is one that i use everytime i am on the course. I use it more in the faster fairway slot. As a speed 11 it does have a wider rim than tradition fairways which  fits more comfortable  in my hands. Throw off the tee or in the fairway it is  reliable and versatile. Can be thrown forehand or backhand with a nice straight flight and reliable fade. Overall it is just a great disc that i wish wasnt oop but dont let that stop you for trying it out for yourself.

The Surge is a pretty standard distance driver, nothing too different or special about it. I find it is a bit more understable than the flight rating indicates, but overall it has the normal slight S curve with a hard finish that is typical of many distance drivers.

I find the Surge to be a bit more touchy than my other drivers, sometimes flipping too much and nearly 'turn & burn', and sometimes no turn at all and it fades out. Usually i find this type of characteristic typical of discs with higher glides.

This disc can be your go to standard driver. It doesn't fit any special role, but it fits many of the basic roles for long distance shots.

I bought a Z Surge, and I was shocked how stable it flew.  I wanted to give it a try b/c I have a Wraith and like it, but this disc feels a little better in my hands.  I could not get this thing to turnover whatsoever for a S-curve.  It would just take a hard dump left.  I did not expect a meathook with this disc, but that's what I was getting.  I don't have the best form/distance, but I can get the Boatman/Wraith to throw a straighter line, so I don't think it's just me.  After reading some other comments, it sounds like this is common for the Z plastic.  And unfortunately that's the only plastic Discraft makes it in now.  Felt pretty disappointed by this due to how great this one feels in my hands.

I'll start off by saying that the surge I have probably flies slightly different because it is a Z sparkle Ledgestone surge. It was way more overstable than I expected. I really couldn't get it to hold an anhyzer let alone turn over, and it really seemed to want to get down to the ground and always gets a big flair skip. I haven't tried the surge in any other plastics because I'm pretty content with my drivers and really just wanted to try it out for fun. If I were to bag this disc it would be as a utility disc.

The surge elite z has been my favorite disc for all the years I have been playing(15+). It is a great beginner disc that can be used to learn the game of disc golf. I have many aces with this disc and carry two in the bag currently. I mostly forehand(flick) when I drive and for me throwing it dead flat I can easily get 300ft plus, with a slow turn at the end. This is also a great roller disc for a bailout in the rough. I recommend anyone that is starting out to put a surge in your bag.

The Discraft Surge used to be one of the most popular drivers on the market, thrown by some of the best players in the world such as Nate Doss. However as disc technologies have changed over the years, this disc has fallen behind. I am a HUGE lover of my old Elite Z Surges, and use it how most players use a CD2 or Thunderbird. It feels fantastic in the hand, flies true without a ton of effort, and has a reliable fade. This disc fits in between my fairway drivers (Undertaker and Exodus) and high speed drivers (PDx and PD2) like a glove. When there is a hole I need to throw a controlled backhand on that is between 375' and 415', I reach for my Surge every time. From a Novice player to a 1000-rated Pro, the Surge can find a place in your bag!

"I'll see your Wraith and raise you a flatter initial flight."

I imagine this is what somebody at Discraft thought while envisioning this disc. The thing is magical, it's better than a Wraith, and the Wraith is f&$! awesome. Gun it hard, it will hold on to any flat line for what doesn't seem like long (it's fast too). Then it reliably falls left with RHBH. One will look up, realize how far it's travelled, and flex triumphantly realizing how much real estate was covered. One of the few discs I'm comfortable with either forehand or back. It's just automatic. It's like a slightly tuned down Destroyer, and the Destroyer IMHO is the best disc made today. This however will be better for a lot of folks.

This disc is too much for newbies, but not so much that you can't learn from it and ease into the realm of double digit speed. It will teach respect because if you wimp it or throw it with hyzer it will fade comically. But it's not so high speed that it will take years to achieve. It is a disc to aspire to, and once mastered, you can laugh at the first year people "throwing" bosses and Kings 200' ahead and 100' left as you consistently sling 300+.

Really a gateway drug, I mean disc, for those that want to push the envelope. Anybody can buy high speed, this will teach how to throw high speed. Pros will use these too as they're so consistent and steady. Get one in cheap plastic and watch it evolve to a dead straight runner, then get an Elite Z for flight you can count on forever. Fantastic disc.

found one of these at the local coarse a while back, gave it a few throws and it seemed a little to overstable to me, my 12 year old son gave it a try and liked it so he tossed it in his bag, at first he used it for his flick disc with pretty good results them he started doing some tomahawks with it and it worked well for that, now that it is worn in a little more he is using it for backhand drives and is getting consistent results, it seems that this disc has worked well for everything he has asked it to do, apparently i didn't throw the disc enough..

Surge is equal to an Innova Wraith. Fast, yet controllable. Predictable fade, reasonable resistance to wind.

The surge is my go-to driver. Reliable fade as long as you find the right dominess. Seems like the DX runs are flat as pancakes and the Z runs are pop tops from my experience. Perfect disc for intermediate players.
