You REALLY need to practice with this one. It can get away from you pretty quickly and you'll end up trading, selling or rat-holing it. It can be a nice finesse disc (very similar to the XL) if you take your time and get used to it. This disc isn't for everyone.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews on this disc. I love my sting in Big Z. It is the perfect disc for finding straight lines through the woods and it will hold any line I throw it on. When I throw this disc, I usually put 70% to 80% power on it. If I really crank it though with a hyzer angle, it will flip up and it will bomb and end to the left. The fade on this disc is almost non-existent. I've had a wrist injury for some time that has really hurt my ability to throw long forehands, so having the Sting to turn right corners is awesome. I highly recommend this disc!

I first threw the Discraft Sting during my first ever Discraft Ace Race in 2017. The course we played at was already really short so none of the holes needed to be shortened. With this being said, some of them were still decently long, so we were actually able to open up on these quite a bit. However with this being said, this is not a disc you really want to open up on. I'm not sure how it compares to current Sting's, but the 2017 Ace Race Sting was probably the most understable fairway driver I have ever thrown. If you try to put too much power into this thing, you are going to get a roller out of it. I'm not necessarily saying that as a bad thing. Sometimes those kind of shots are needed on the course. If you run up on a situation where you need a ton of turn, a Sting would be a great disc to reach for. My claim to fame with the Sting was when I threw it on Hole 6 at the Ace Race we played. It started turning (WAY more than I thought it was going to) and was heading straight for the road. The same time the Sting was heading towards the road, there was a car coming the opposite way. We instantly started to fear a collision between the two. Our card kept our eyes on it as it seemingly had a magnet attached to it as it headed straight towards the car. At last... the Sting hit the car... but thankfully, it only hit the tire. What I'm about to tell you, you may not believe... but it happened. After striking the tire on the car, the Sting bounced right off the tire and flew right back in bounds onto the fairway. It didn't really matter as far as scoring goes because you only run for aces during an Ace Race, but it's still a pretty sweet story to tell. I kept that Sting and to this day, it still has a black mark on the rim from where it struck the tire. So if you want a glidey, understable, car deflecting, OB avoiding fairway driver... grab a Sting!

I got this disc to add a little more understable variety to my bag. I have found a place for it but it honestly doesnt come out much. It can be thrown at slower speeds for a nice flexy shot or for beginners looking for something more understable, but if you've got even an intermediate arm this disc is very easy to overpower and it just turns over really quick into a short roller, which is the only shot I use it for, short get out of jail rollers that need to turn quickly. I would reccomend the archer or even the heat for beginners over this disc.

Great disc especially in the woods. It's very easy to shape lines with this thing. It really shines for controlled shots where you can't rip something fast for fear of missing your Gap. Slow down, throw smooth, and this thing GOES. Holds a lot of lines. Basically is a leopard in speed and stability.

I don't know what it was about this disc, but I could not get a single good throw with it. I really wanted to like it, but it is flip city to a degree that I cannot even use this thing. This disc cannot handle any torque, at all! Even thrown with hyzer it flipped hard. I'm sure it works great for some beginners to an extent, but I can throw even a starter pack Leopard with some snap without flipping it like I did this one. I don't see a potential with this dud mold. Last year's Archer was less flippy than this, I don't see why they would release this the year after especially.

It took me a few throws to figure this thing out at the Ace Race, but I ended up bagging it for a while afterwards. It has a nice slow predictable Hyzer line on it for me, and I can get some pretty good distance with it. I've noticed that this disc is a very different animal in cold temps though. Just didn't hold the same lines or have the same distance that it did in warmer weather, otherwise it would still be in my bag. I still have it around though. If your looking for a specialty shot disc that you can depend on to get you around things off the tees or have a wide open fairway and need to cover a ton of ground still to get to the basket on a secondary shot, this will be the disc you will be reaching for first. It's a pretty solid disc.

This was the Ace Race disc for 2017 and I must say that I did not fare as well with it as I did the previous year with the Archer. The Sting is perhaps a bit more overstable than the Archer when thrown lightly, but when thrown with any kind of power, the Sting can't handle the torque and flips over into a roller. With that said, it is NOT designed to be a power disc. It is designed to be a beginner-friendly disc that crosses the line between mid-range and fairway driver. It has a comfortable rim size and does not require power for a precision fight.

Discraft seems to be very fond of these mid-to-fairway crossover discs, and my favorite of that bunch is still the classic Stratus (one of the best easy-throw discs on the market), but the Sting is a nice addition to the niche. I would recommend it to beginners and my teenage daughter was quite fond of hers from the Ace Race. They were perfect for her arm speed, especially in lighter weights.

I'd recommend this disc for beginners and feel like it is exactly what Discraft wanted as an introductory slow-speed driver. If you're a power thrower or experienced player, just walk on by, unless you love releasing on a hyzer angle, in which case it flips up and flies like a champ.

I played this in the ace race.  It has stayed in my bag ever since.  I can tunnel shot this at both high and low speeds with a very reliable distance.  For me I release on a strong hyper at full power and it flips up and holds a straight line.   On a level release at half power it still holds a straight line.  It won't fade to the left.   If I throw at full power and level release it will glide on an anhyzer but it won't ever flip to a roller for me.  Even my beginner friends love to throw it.   Very easy for them to keep straight.  It almost flies like a midrange with better distance.  I think the numbers are a little off and think it is a little more understable that it says.   It doesn't fade very much no matter how I throw it.   That is why I like it.

Well, what can I say, it's the flippy 2017 Ace Race disc. When I threw it again, I was reminded of how flippy it really is. I'd definitely give it a -3 instead of -2. When throwing hard, it almost always hit the ground rolling- so this is one I had to back off of. When thrown soft on a hyzer line, it just pops up and glides to the right.

This is a disc I would give to brand new players to try getting some distance. A flippy speed 6 disc with a small rim is the perfect match for a new player.

Love this disc! Even though I'm not a beginner but this disc is money. Throwing rhbh I can hyzer flip this disc and always fades to the right with distance.
