Excellent overstable midrange. For me, I used a Reactor for a lot of my overstable midrange shots, and had a Pyro for more approach-style shots. I'm weird in the fact that I prefer a wider diameter mid range for forehand approaches, and the Pyro is incredible for that.

This disc is incredible. I got my first ever ace with a Pyro and I couldn't be more proud. The Pyro is so torque resistant I can rip it on a forehand and it wont flip over, it will just soar! It is perfectly overstable and fits very comfortably in the hand.

Great forehand mid , good stability backhand  without fading too hard at the end of flight . Pushes pretty well before fading .

Torque resistant and holds a line for about half it's flight before starting to pull into fade. Can get a straight teebird like flight if you power up or a more stable flight if you throw it softer. Not quite able to fight strong headwind the way a runway would but I could definitely bag it. Right now it's in my backup bag with similar flight to a Quake.

The Pyro is a perfect companion disc for the Deflector. I have it in Prism Proton and love the plastic. For shots that are a little out of reach distance-wise for the Deflector, the Pyro will get the job done. Works great for both forehand and backhand. Very torque resistant.

Very overstable, blunt-edged midrange. I love how it feels forehand and backhand. It has a really chunky feeling rim that fills up the hand.

Flight is more overstable and less glidey than the numbers. Fresh it basically fades out of  the the hand on softer throws. If you juice it, it will carry for a while before dumping left.

I use my Pyro as a forehand approach disc, similar to how many people use zones or toros. I also like it for controlled distance backhand. This disc doesn't want to go more than 280-300 feet.

Very overstable midrange, a little more than the numbers indicate. It is super reliable and flies like a faster Zone. I love to use it for forehand skip shots, so if you need a mid that skips this will be perfect for you.

An absolute solid stable mid that you can still get great distance with and feels great to throw. It is a beefy disc that is very forgiving with enough arm speed and you will feel confident this disc will do what you expect it to do.

Forehand is decent but the extra spin changes how this disc flies. You'll see forehands going farther and fading later. This disc doesn't get pulled out of my bag every hole but when it does, I know exactly where it's going to go

Best OS mid I've ever thrown FH. Straighter and longer than my Justice. Hit cage from about 200' uphill on my 3rd throw with it. Got an ace within 2 weeks and metal two other times. It can handle a lot of arm speed and goes far, sometimes even too far. Very straight when released flat. I've gotten some pretty big skips out of it, too when it lands got with a bit of hyzer. I attribute the skippiness to the glide.

For a long time now I've been throwing Warrior (Gateway) for straight flights and Justice for power. The former requires finesse and the latter a lot of power. The Pyro is right between them, requiring less touch and less power while also flying farther.

I have a prism proton Pyro that I got for a specific purpose: scramble forehand shots. I'm a primarily RHBH player and I rarely throw FH. When I do it's in the woods and because I have no other option. I sling this thing as hard as I can at tiny gaps and it's pretty good at finding a way through.

My Pyro has also been very useful in windy rounds. At my relatively slow arm speed it actually flies farther into a head wind thrown flat than in no wind thrown flat because it stands up longer and then fades later. It's a great complement to my Hex, which I throw in most situations.

I give this disc 4/5 for how it flies and add a star for how it looks. With the gummy prism proton rim with metal flakes in mine, it's a thing a beauty.

The Pyro is the first disc I've ever thrown and immediately bought another one, mid round. My second throw with it bounced off the top of the basket. I tried the Runway for a while, but found that it wasn't stable enough to FH reliably- Oddly, the Pyro is both more overstable AND gets more distance than the Runway. This is a disc that I will tell anyone and everyone I play with or talk to about, because I love it that much.
I'm always shocked at how far this disc goes. I can rip it flat or on Hyzer with 100% power and it will reliably go about 30-40ft farther than I thought a midrange could go (for me) without turning a bit. I also find myself being incredibly accurate with this disc, so I will use it any time I possibly can.
If you want a mid that's super overstable, this is not it- a Deflector is a better fit. The Runway is good, didn't mean to make it sound bad, it just fills more of the backhand flex/placement role for my game.

Haters will hate but this isn't really that overstable of a disc. The flight numbers are spot on and the flight chart is dead accurate. For me this flys straight for about 200 to 225 with a reliable fade for the last 50. For a backhand this is great and the low glide makes it great for approaches. It has just enough bite to be forgiving if you miss the line but straight enough to get you there. Also works very well when thrown anhyzer. Holds the line but reliably breaks and lands flat.

I do not care for this disc on a forehand. The rim is quite deep and even when I get a clean release it flys mostly straight.

I would describe this disc as a shorter servo or photon. Flies straight, then dumps when it runs out of speed.

If you're looking for an overstable mid, look no further! I love the Pyro for the aggressive way I can step in to a shot without having any significant turn, and a fade that will always be present. I love the overmold color combos with this newer prism plastic look in Axiom, and some of the stamps are pure fire! I find this disc has a touch more glide than the dumpier MVP Deflector, and a bit more practical than the Streamline Runway, though those are two similar disc choices.

This is by far my favorite disc I’ve ever thrown. I’m a predominately forehead player and this is my go to forehead disc. The flat top and shallow rim is incredibly comfortable in the hand and the flight is very predictable. I can throw this disc with as much power as I want and be certain that it won’t turn over on me. It flies very much like a faster zone that can also handle a lot more power.

This disc is also fantastic for forehand rollers. Something about the shape of the rim and the balance of the disc allows it to roll forever. I’ve been able to reliably throw 350ft+ rollers with this disc. I’ve also seen friends that don’t normally throw rollers have a lot of success throwing forehand rollers with this disc.

Awesome overstable midrange. Super flat top, great for a forehand. I use it mostly for upshots around 200-275 ft. One thing is that if it hits the ground flat, it flares up like a Firebird. One of my favorite discs in my bag, plus Prism Proton plastic is absolutely gorgeous!

I have the prism proton 178g. This is my favorite disc in my bag. It is my go to forehand upshot disc. Extremely reliable fade at the end. I can put on a slight anhyzer and it will always come out of it for a nice S curve. Thrown at high power, this disc went way further than I first expected. Flies true to its flight numbers.

This isn't my catch all mid, but it's good at what I bag it for. It's the only mid I have that won't turn on me at least a little when I power up on it, which makes it great for tight windows. It's also my best mid for forehand shots. Gotta be careful not to underpower it or it'll hyzer out on you.

Among my favorite discs, I have three (all close to max weight) and will often carry all of them for casual rounds. Fantastic for forehand upshots, and drives under 300 for me. I throw mostly Trilogy with more Gyro stuff creeping into my bag over time. For me this disc sits between my Deflector/Justice and my beloved Verdicts. Nowhere near as freakishly overstable as the Deflector/Justice, but will fight out of almost any turn you might get from cranking on it too hard. (I have a tendency to pull forehands over when throwing hard, probably rolling my wrist...) This makes it a bit more trustable on a forehand than the Verdicts that I have loved throwing forehand for a while now. I still carry both as it's easier to get a straight line/less fade from a Verdict hyzerflip, but in wind I'll grab the Pyro. It will stand up a bit in a headwind, but not very much. Also, the Prism Proton is freaking gorgeous. Great on backhands too. A bit sneaky long. I'll overthrow with it more often than underthrowing; which is odd for something this overstable.

I needed an overstable mid range and I wanted to stick with MVP/Axiom so I picked up a 175g Pyro and was not disappointed.

It has a flat top, shallow rim, goes where I throw it, and has a diving fade at the end. If I put max speed on it I can get a slight turn and some extra glide. This disc goes straight until the end on a good fast throw.

The glide number doesn't seem correct to me, I'd put it closer to a 2 or 2.5 glide. I also feel like the fade is closer to 3 for me. It says it's a speed 5, but I can throw it as fast as I throw a driver and it still goes straight with dropping fade at the end.

Beginners might not like this disc because without speed and rotation it fades right out of the hand. It could be a good utility disc for beginners.

Forehand shots are smooth and consistent with this.

I used it recently in a local tournament that happened to be on the windiest day of the year so far around here (Bellingham, WA) and this disc was a life saver for me. Throwing it flat and fast is the same in the wind as it is on a still day. The only time the wind affects this disc for me is if I throw it on high hyzers, which is to be expected.

Proton plastic has always felt pretty good to me and the grip is perfect for my hand. The Infinite Discs dragon logo rocks. The only downside is I got the wrong color- purple is amost impossible to find in the woods...

The Pyro is an incredible disc by Axiom and the Prism plastic feels incredible. How this disc is only rated 4 stars at this moment I do not understand. I orignally didnt order a Pyro due to the inconsistent reviews. However, i had the chance throw my friends a few times and I am now a true believer in it. It has all the stability one could ask for. In my persanal opinion its the perfect baby to the Matrix and the Deflector. I mainly carry Matrixes and 1 deflector but I will be getting a Pyro for the shots that i need more distance than a deflector but I need to trust that it wont do anything in the wind. When I threw the pyro it went a lot further than I was expecting. It doesnt flip for me though, I would throw it on a slight hyzer and it help beautifully. It also surprised me with its glide.

Bottom line is if your looking a disc that can take a lot of torque and hold its line. plus come out of an anhyzer then this is your disc. It's less stable than the Deflectors and Justices but has all the stability most disc golfers should need.

I really wanted to love this disc, and competed in this year's axiom challenge for the sole purpose of getting one. Unfortunately, it just isnt something that I will ever bag. It is very flat topped which is uncomfortable in the hand, for me, other players might like a flatter disc. It is way more overstable than the numbers indicate. This thing starts fading directly out of the hand, and is difficult to push past 200ft. Even on hard flex lines I struggled to get more than 250 out of it, I typically throw mids with similar numbers around 300- 325ft. It is advertised as a utility disc which ia fine, most players aren't going to be looking for distance out of a utility disc, but their are much better options out there for that purpose. It is an interesting disc, but by no means is it fun to throw. Talking to other advanced level players at the challenge we all seemed to have the same complaints. Too bad, I was really hoping this would be something special, but it doesn't even hold a candle to the gator which is easier to throw, more comfortable in the hand, and more predictable to boot. I would strongly diacourage new players from buying this disc.

The pyro is really an interesting disc. A pretty low profile flat top mid, that flies very similarly to something like a harp from Westside. The pyro doesn’t turn at all. Maybe on a good day you can get some straight flight before the hard fade... but don’t buy it and expect to get that. It’s very overstable but it flies farther than most discs in its class. The pyro does as is advertised.

The Pyro looks really cool! It's quite overstable though. For me it flew like my Justice, turning straight out of my hand and not going very far. Don't get me wrong, I love super OS mids like that, there's just so many of them these days! I feel like this is Axiom's version of a Deflector, to me they're about the same, but I can't throw super duper hard either. I am at high altitude, so your mileage may very on how far you can get this thing at lower altitudes and with stronger arms.

Perfect to fill the slot between the Vector and Deflector. A lot more glide than the Deflector but this thing will still fade hard on a 100% power throw. Had been using a DGA Quake (great disc) in that slot for a long time, and they are very similar, but the SE Prism Pyro took over that spot in the bag.

I enjoyed playing with the Prism PYRO for a couple of rounds to give it a whirl. First of all, this mid-range is definitely overstable-- more so than the stamped flight numbers might suggest. It faded for me nearly right out of the hand so I had to resort to using it for only more powerful throws or "utility disc" shots. Once I had that figured out, I found it very useful to get around objects, and though I did not have the pleasure of testing it in the wind, I don't see why it would not be very handy in fighting into a headwind.

The feel of the rim was preferable for me with forehand throws, even though that is not a strength for me. Personally, when I throw backhand midrange shots, I like the bottom side of the rim to be a little smoother (often beaded) but the Pyro has more of a peaked edge on the bottom of the rim.

I would not recommend this disc for beginners who would just find it to fade prematurely. But I do recommend it as a utility mid-range for overstable shots, primarily for power forehand players who really went to whip it on a nice approach and sudden fade to the basket.

I wanted to write this review to provide some insight about this disc that may be overlooked.

The disc has a rim width of 1.6cm and a listed speed of "5" or "Midrange". However, I believe, this width puts it in the Fairway "Control" category. I did an advanced disc search, to find other popular 1.6cm, for your reference:

Discraft: Stalker (Fairway), Zombee (Fairway), Sting (Fairway), Cyclone (Fairway)

Innova: Cheetah (Fairway), Gazelle (Fairway), Kite (MID), Leopard (Fairway), Leopard3 (Fairway), Viper (Fairway)

Millenium: JLS (Fairway), Polaris LS (Fairway)  MVP: Deflector (MID)  Infinite Discs: Centurion (Fairway)  Yikun: View (Fairway)

With that information out of the way, this disc holds a unique slot in my bag. Something I've occasionally thought about but never knew I needed...

Often, we throw speed ~9 discs as utility to get out of bad situations. The usual suspects: Felon, Firebird, Raptor, Hellfire, Scepter, Flick, Fireball, FD3, Stal, Flare, etc. All great discs, but a lot of the time we need something slower. How often have you thrown a utility shot to land it near the basket but then skip 30 or more feet past? How often have you needed a utility shot but thrown the wrong disc because you felt too close to use your speed 9 utility disc?

This is where the Prism Pyro excels!

It feels and flies like a hybrid Fairway with all the consistency and utility of the discs mentioned above. A truly amazing (and gorgeous) disc.

(This review is based on the Prism Pyro Proton, not the Neutron available at circuit events.)

The Pyro is a very competitive entry into the midrange market for Axiom. The Pyro has a very flat top with a 2 piece wing shaped to be overstable. The size of the disc in combination with the rim makes it feel familiar and comfortable but at the same time different, like a roc with the bead taken off or a shorter Deflector. The grippy neutron core combined with the hard proton gyro band feels a bit odd in the hand but you get past it quick.  The pyro i have is from the circuit series and is a neutron core with a proton gyro band and it is 178g.

The Pyro has some beef to it, not quite the same level as a deflector, but definitely a prominent fade at the end of its flight. It has a very straight flight with good resistance to power which allows you to throw this disc pretty hard on a number of angles and it will always come back at the end of its flight, i found flex anhyzers to be very gratifying with this disc. I found it a bit more overstable than initially advertised it required me to really lay into this disc to get a full 300ft out of it and if i tried to throw it softer with touch I needed to put some flex on it to hold a straight flight else it would hook up and drop to the ground. By the way they advertised it I feel it flew similar to a discmania MD4 or a beat up RocX3 more than an Innova Roc/Roc3 which i'd consider the standard overstable midrange. I think what the Pyro really lacked was glide as I felt this disc very much would drop from the sky when the revs ran out making it a bit more point and shoot but much less useful in wooded scenarios where you want to throw a more touchy shot and let the disc glide out completely. It's utility otherwise allows it to hold up ok to low power forehand approaches but its real wheel house seems to be backhand.

As far as wind handling goes the Pyro will hold straight in a headwind very nicely while its less than average glide makes it a bad candidate for tailwinds.

The pyro is pretty overstable and would likely classify as utility for newer players, it is still workable but i think if they came out with this in a baseline plastic it would probably suit beginners better than the current premium plastic runs.

Overall I think the pyro is a solid offer in the axiom lineup especially considering that the MVP side has the majority of midranges at this point. I think if you are looking for a consistently overstable flyer or a power midrange the Pyro has control in spades, I think if they end up producing this in the baseline plastics you could get more use out of it as the premium plastic variants seem to be very close to that utility level of stability and its subpar glide might be bolstered with a faster wearing plastic. All that said I think this is a mid I can see people bagging, 4/5 stars for sure.

I got the prism pyro for a MVP circuit event.  It is a VERY overstable midrange.  Thrown hard and flat it will begin fading very quickly right out of the hand.  With a significant anhyser release it gives a nice s-curve flight.  As an experiment I tried rolling - thrown near vertically the Pyro still fought out to a slide.  I was not able to get near the normal amount of distance with this disc as I could with most other midrange discs due to the overstability.

Overall I think the Pyro could be a role player - mainly for get out of trouble shots or for very windy conditions.  Also I should note that the prism plastic is not especially grippy - though that didn't bother me - it might matter to you.
