The gator is a beautiful, bulky midrange that is my go-to when I need to hit a straight, hyzer-flip tunnel shot in the 200-300 foot range. As a forehand only player, this disc can handle the torque of a forehand really well and when thrown on a slight hyzer, it will flip to flat and fly dead straight while making a distinct 'whistling' sound as it flies. That's right, gators whistle when thrown smooth and fast. I have 3 gators, two in DX and one in star plastic and all 3 whistle. No other disc I have makes this sound. The flight numbers are right on. This disc won't turn ...and certainly won't turnover. It will glide nicely depending on how far you throw it and it will consistently fade hard, landing with a thud with very little skip. It is also a reliable disc for spike hyzer lines and flex forehand lines...fighting out of an anny nicely with a predictable finish to the right. It also is a great disc for precise, touchy approach shots when you need to stick a landing. I prefer the chalky DX plastic, but I like the star as well. Enjoy this disc.

This was the first midrange I ever tried, and I was immediately enamored.  A new Gator is very hard to turn over, flies straight for a while, and then fades predictably back left (RHBH).  Its low glide makes it travel exactly as far as I throw it, wind or no, and I almost never over- or under throw it unless I've misjudged the distance to begin with.  Good for backhands and forehands.

After some wear, my DX Gator has become slightly less stable, but it is still very hard to flip over--I just have to start it on a slight hyzer if I want to throw it hard.

I recommend the Gator to EVERYONE.  It's the best!  Some people don't like the bead.  I don't notice it.

My favorite disc! I would be dead without this disc and I cannot think of another disc quite like it. I love how this disc wears in, it starts off as this brutishly overstable midrange that is really only useful for S shots and spike hyzers. But then it slowly turns into a slightly overstable mid that will do whatever your arm tells it to do. I can trust this disc on anhyzers, hyzers, and other shots. This is my "I have no clue what to throw let me just grab one" disc. It is great in the wind and makes for a decent putter if you are playing a one disc round at a short course. The only downside to this disc is that it does not have the distance that some other mids have, but to me that is fine because I have fairway drivers in my bag.

This is my workhorse mid on windy days.  The limited glide adds considerable distance control and instills confidence in getting close to the basket.  I also think the fade is a little more than the 3 noted in the ratings.  My Gator always finishes left no matter what the wind is doing.  I tend to go for other mids with more glide on calm days, so this isn't an everyday disc for me.

I find that this is not really needed for my bag and I found myself never really using it on the courses. But this disc is exactly as advertised, an overstable mid that really works best as a utility disc. I throw zones as my overstable approach disc and I find that this disc does not really do much more than my zone can do and it has less glide than my zones. I can throw this disc flat and it will fade almost instantly out of my hand, if I put it on anhyzer it will turn over a bit before fighting out and finding the ground. The glide really hurts this disc from being a super useful disc outside of utiliy approach game. I could see the gator being a really good compliment to the pig because it is slightly faster and may give you some extra distance than the pig would but in my opinion that would be a waste of a disc slot. Some people really love the gator and I may too if I did not love my zones but this disc just did not do it for me. I think people should give the gator a try if they are not a pig fan but for innova overstable molds I would stick more to a pig than the gator. This does not mean the gator is a bad disc tho, I just did not mesh with it like a lot of other people have.

This is a great disc. I know I said that this disc is neutral, but this disc is difficult to use for anyone who isn't used to using a utility mid. This disc has very low glide, so the wind isn't going to change the flight as much as something like a Roc. This disc is also very overstable, so no matter how hard you throw, this disc will almost always finish on a hyzer. This disc has 0 turn, so it can also hold any angle it is put on, and on a hyzer angle, it will basically never turn, not even to flat. This is an amazing approach disc. If you need an upshot mid-range, I recommend a Gator.

DX Gator 175g - Talk about your meathook. Throwing this disc is like throwing a brick, and that is exactly what Innova was looking for. As a RHFH player, I continued to have trouble throwing it flat; it just fights out of any flex or flat line and dives into the ground. If mastered, this disc is very reliable as an approach disc. I just prefer more glide and less hook, and with the DX plastic, the Gator can become very beat up. Not my favorite disc, but I can see it being useful in some bags.

Just picked one of these up in DX.  Very reliable fade with both backhand and forehands.  Great mid/long range approach disc for beginner and intermediate.  Will definitely do the trick until I invest in a Mako3 or Roc3 in a better plastic

I don't exactly recommend throwing this far as a mid, at least in DX. Not sure about star as I have never thrown one. Maybe mine hasn't gotten beaten in enough because it doesn't fade as much as it should. However, I have grown to love the Gator for longer approach shots/ some drives under 200 feet! Very domey and rarely skips or rolls. Normally sticks right where it lands which makes it very valuable to my bag. I had been using the Rhyno for that but it started to roll everywhere on me despite what people have said online. Also, this disc is a solid choice for a windy days putter. My current windy day putter is a Hydra but this would suffice. Overall an amazing approach/short driving disc!

My go to midrange. I have a few star gators in my bag (with and without the big bead). It is very overstable and predictable and always comes out clean. I use the beadless a lot as a utility disc. Really good for some short range overhead shots needed to cut through some thick woods.

Love this disc in star plastic. Use this for mid range drives and approaches, both backhand and forehand. Now that it is beat in a bit I can turn it over and still get a reliable hard fade.

I am still having great success with my DX Gator, but it is getting beat up quite a bit. I'd rather win a new Gator than have to buy another one, unless I get an ace. If you like overstable putters, try using a DX Gator for putting in windy conditions!

I have a DX Gator that was the first disc I ever purchased. I wanted to try disc golf and figured a midrange would be a good all-purpose disc to start with. The logic was correct, but the disc choice was not. To a beginner, I STRONGLY recommend staying away from this disc. It's simply too overstable and you will be frustrated with your inability to keep it flying straight. I know I was. This disc caused me so much grief that I stopped playing disc golf for several years because I thought I just didn't have the skill needed to play. Then, a random encounter with a friend led me to a course using his beginner discs, and I found that I could throw and enjoy the game. Quite simply, I just hadn't had the arm strength to keep the Gator from hyzering right out of my hand, which is the most frustrating thing imaginable when you're new to the sport. Fast forward a few years, and now I've dug the Gator back out of storage and I love it. It's a great overstable mid-range approach disc. I just can't emphasize enough that I would leave this one out of the bag for a year or two when you get started.

I have a 170 DX Gator. Even though the DX is probably not as stable as the other plastics, this disc is really awesome. The Gator has great control and late stability, which makes it great for forehand shots. Also, the Gator that I have seems to grab chains really well. One day, the Gator made 2 shots that were pretty much too far for a putter throw. One was over a tree and hyzered in, and the other one was a straight uphill shot. When it gets windy, I will use this disc for putting, just because it seems to like going in the basket!

I love the Gator. Mine is in sticky DX plastic and I use it primarily for approach shots and tomahawk throws. This disc has a unique ability to stop by the basket, and stay. It doesn't move very far once it hits the ground. Sometimes I even use it for putts.
