One of the best disc to start throwing when a beginner starts to work in distance drivers. It is overshadowed by the Mamba and the Wraith but for the slower arms its great distance your can control.

The Star Archon (164) was the first distance driver that I was able to throw consistently on a sidearm.  The flight is very straight with a slight forward-pushing fade at the end, which makes it a great finesse disc on wooded courses.  I didn't like it as much in windy conditions and found it to be very susceptible to head and cross winds.  I have cycled this disc out as my form has gotten better and other discs provide more consistent flights in more adverse conditions.  I highly recommend this one for anyone looking for a first distance driver.

I believe that the archon is a underrated disc that is forgotten about due to the wraith, but I feel like newer players could benefit from it. I don't mind the feel in the hand as it does have an interesting top. It has the flight of a beat in wraith. It's hard to recommend the star archon over a pro wraith though.

Review is based on Star Archon

Bottom Line Up Front: Its a pretty unimpressive disc. There are plenty of other discs that are similar but better. Not terrible, but why bother.

The Archon is made with the bottom mold of a Wraith and the top mold of a Vulcan (plateau top). It flies about like what you would think, but is a little wonky. I don't think its overly consistent. I'm not a fan of the Vulcan plateau top despite a beloved Destroyer that has this top. You would presumably use this for a 350 to 400ft turnover shot, or for a big flex line. It just isn't the best at it. If you're offering me a brand new Archon or a beat in Wraith, I'm choosing the Wraith 100 out of 100 times.

It isn't overly great for beginners, and I've never seen a good player use one either, local or pro. I've seen some okay players who just had one they found or were given when they started and like it. If I give them a seasoned or lighter wraith I bet you they like it a lot more.

Similar Discs: Some Wraiths, Terns, Avenger SS (kind of).

    Star Plastic, 173 grams.

Picked this disc up used from Play it Again Sports with no real expectations.  But on day one it became by go-to straight thrower for distance.  It does have the advertised turn, but simply and smoothly comes back on a long and straight glide before fading very calmly at the end.  I'm what I consider to be somewhere in the biginner-to-intermediate range when it comes to playing, as I've been playing about 11 months.  Perhaps the fact that it is used may suggest it's already broken in, but I'm very happy with this disc.

While I still grab for my 173 gram Star Mystere for my longest throw needs, the Archon is first choice when I have less room for error.

Got this in Star from Innova store on their free Friday deal. It is basically a slightly faster Beast. The Beast I currently own is in Champ plastic so this Star Archon is less stable. RHBH it glides out right then finishes slightly left. RHFH glides hard left with minimal fade on the finish. If you own a Beast you don't need this, but if for some reason you can't find a beast this is a great replacement.

I got the Archon (Star) mostly out of curiosity of how much it was like the Wraith. Thrown with 350' or so, they are very similar for me.  The main difference is the flatness of the rim along the top and the softer fade at the end of a full flight.  I find myself reaching for my Wraith more often than not, but I trust the Archon to hold an annhyzer flight longer, especially if I feel like I'm not really connecting on my throws that day. It almost falls under being a control driver for me.  The shape is a bit weird with backhands, but it feels great with forehands, so I wonder if the rim was made for a forehand throw.  It seems to end up consistently 15ft or so shorter than my go to distance drivers, but overall its a solid predictable driver.

If you are looking for a transitional disc from a fairway to distance driver and are seeking that first disc to try a max distance throw, this may be the one. It has a higher speed but feels good and is relatively easy to throw. It's a stable disc, ending in a position very straight from release point, but also shows some s turn before a stable fade. It holds anhyzer and hyzer shots very well. I enjoy throwing this disc in flex lines and watching it bite off some significant distance compared to my fairway drivers. For flick shots, this disc is easy to throw as well. I enjoy flicking this on a flex line and having it finish a bit understable for me, but if a hyzer flick line is needed, this can be the disc for that too. It's just easy to throw all around. I have this in star plastic at 170 grams and it has been reliable for me over the years. I have never thrown this in a cheaper base plastic, but I believe it's worth it to try this disc in a premium plastic for the best, longest, most consistent results.

I got my Archon as a mystery disc, and for a while I was not sure what to do with it. I did not have the arm speed to get this disc to even fly flat, much less turnover when I was throwing RHBH.  Last week I found out that for me this disc works best for uphill shots, mostly forehand.

At my speeds it will follow a nice flex line, but still land softly on the hyzer finish.

The disc feels great in my hand, and I like the overall shape of the disc, but I think I need to increase my skill level a bit to unlock the full potential of this disc.

This disc was given to me by a friend because he received 2 as mystery discs and he didn't have a need for both. Best way I could describe this flight and feel is it's like a Wraith that doesn't fade as hard at the end. I've definitely got some more understable drivers in my bag but I'd say this one is on the border between stable and understable. For my needs it has made a nice little addition to the bag. I use it mostly on open field bombers though. Either way I'm definitely pleased as it filled a gap in my bag.

    Star plastic in 170 grams:

So first off this is actually my newest disc only having it now for about 2 weeks and already have I started to grow attached to this disc. I have an Innova Valkyrie after hearing how good they were especially as a driver for newer peoples that don't have a big arm yet. I love the Valkyrie, so when I read reviews and reddit post that the Archon is basically just a faster version of the Valkyrie then I was sold immediately. Especially now that I'm able to throw further than when I started and was in need of an actual Distance Driver. I mean of course it's like the Valkyrie with similar flight ratings with the Archon being faster but this disc really flies just the same and just as easy. I would say if you're a beginner that has a good arm and can throw a speed 11 disc then you won't be disappointed with this disc.

So, like a lot of new players, I bought an awful lot of discs that I might not really need. The Archon was one of them. Early on, I was not in love with the grip of this disc so, it sat on the rack for quite some time.

Now, that my form is a little more refined, I started throwing it again and found a pretty cool spot in my bag for it. It's my 250 foot or so tunnel shot disc as long as there is a little room for it to turn a little. Especially straight with a little tail wind. It seems to handle some crosswinds when thrown flat as well. It feels fast with less power than some other discs with the same speed rating. That's how it works for me, anyway.

I've had 3 different versions of this disc in star plastic from 168 to 175 either given to me or purchased. It's not a bad disc but I just don't care for how it feels in my hand and has too much turn. I would rather go to the Turn by Innova for my anhyzer or getting the full s-curve out of a disc.

Being a little older and only beng able to throw about 350' anymore this is the driver for me and ive tried em all.  If your max distance is somewhere between 300 and 350 this disc will add distance to your throws while being somewhat consistent.  It does have a different feel in the hand but its because of the vulcan type top.

Where this disc excels is wide open bombing and tight long range tunnels when thrown low.....it is a long range valk for sure, but its not a disc to force lines with.....throw it flat, or hyzer flip it a little and watch it turn a little and fade a little for a net straight flight.  it will also add distance to you hyzer shots cause it will stand up a little.  It's truely my main driver when there is no wind.  And its a great compliment to my Wraiths because im pretty sure its a wraith bottom and a vulcan top.. But like all innova the mold can be a little inconsistent, but whats new. The disc is definetly worth a try if you dont throw over 380'.  I like the stars 167g or less...great underated disc for sure.

A relationship: Destroyer is to Tern as Wraith is to Archon. For my beginning backhand arm-speed, I have had a lot more success throwing the Tern and Archon. I would imagine for advanced players, this disc is a little too flippy to be a "go-to" disc. However, for beginners to intermediate players, I think this disc is worth a shot. It doesn't seem to be particularly popular, butI was able to get this disc to go a long way both forehand and backhand.

Thrown perfectly, this disc can go crazy far - either forehand or backhand.

For lower arm speeds, this disc will be finicky, especially in the wind.  For higher arm speeds, this disc will be very understable.

Based on its inconsistency, I would not recommend this for starting players.  However, if you have been playing for awhile and want something you can rip on a huge anhyzer or hyzer-flip, this might be the disc for you.

Best use - tail wind bomber.

    Worst use - headwinds.

I'm giving it three out of five stars because it just felt weird in my hands. I know this is a wraith top and a vulcan bottom and those are two discs I can bomb and enjoy throwing especially the wraith. But I just couldn't get this disc to do anything for me, and I really wanted to like this disc and would try to put it in my bag. I never could get a consistent flight out of it but I was also trying to fix my form when I was throwing it, so it very well could be be the archer and not the arrow. It maybe a very underrated disc lost in innova's crowded distance driver line up, but I just couldn't get it going for me.

Archon review. My main long driver is a max weight Star Wraith. When I throw it in neutral wind conditions I get a very long and flat drive over 350 to 400 feet that will land just left of center. That said. The Archon is naturally just a bit more under stable and has the same bottom plate as the wraith. I can use it for RHBH late turn right drives, hyzerflips, and max distance rollers right out of the bag. The comfort of having the same feel across all of my drivers in premium plastic is key. Speed 11 "beat in" Wraith right here for premium plastic enthusiasts. Because of the properties of the disc and my honest arm speed this disc is key in my bag. Everyone uses different mains, so for Wraith users that get maximum distance potential from them this disc is the perfect touch disc accompaniment. Good luck!

I picked up a star archon locally after losing my champion beast. Loved the beast but wanted something a little faster in hopes to get more distance and I wasn't disappointed. I drive strictly RHFH and immediately loved the way this felt in the hand. It has a nice little S to it and flies just as the flight path suggests. This is one of my top distance driver's, I prefer it over the slower Beast and faster Tern. Pick one up yourself and try it out!

Beginners Review: This disc ended up being waaay more flippy than I expected (probably due to poor form). I originally fell in love with the Beast and was hoping to find a disc that had the same flight ratings but with a bit more speed; in comes the Archon. Although it does not fly as straight as the Beast does for me, this disc definitely has it uses and will have a spot in my bag.

I agree with the previous review that the Archon is highly underrated. The disc has been out for years and I only threw it for the first time recently. The Archon is rated speed 11, but I think its closer to 12. It comes out of the hand fast and zips along with authority. Its a fairly rare disc in that it has some noticeable high speed turn coupled with pronounced late fade. This results in booming S curve shots.

I daresay I like the Archon more than the Wraith. It has more of an S curve type flight and I get better distance with the Archon. Unfortunately, its one of those discs that gets lost in Innova's crowded and cluttered driver lineup. I have no clue if its a good seller, but I hope Innova doesn't discontinue it. I won't call the Archon a must-have, but its a very satisfactory driver that covers the speed 11-12 category well. I'd pick it over a Wraith or Krait.

Easily one of the most underrated discs Innova makes or at least the Star Archon. Heres what I use it for...

Slight headwind and I need a straight shot with no fade at the end.

Tailwind and I need a straight shot with a small fade at the end.

No wind or tailwind I throw a fairly low turnover shot for max distance without throwing it too high.

No wind or tailwind for a straight forehand shot.

The Star Archon was one of the first distance drivers that I really got to work for me. As a beginner, I was struggling with getting any turn out of my drivers, mostly becasue I was using drivers way too fast for my arm and with poor form. The Archon was a great solution to that, it was slower than those that I had been throwing and I could get real results and even a good S shot out of it. I loved how the disc flew until I eventually broke it in too much and corrected my form. That being said, I do like this disc for those who are making their way up into fairway drivers and I think they will be happy with their results

This is a very reliable straight flying disc. When the disc starts to get beat up, it becomes a great turnover disc, or a hyzer flip disc that provides excellent distance with little effort. It has a rim similar to a vulcan rim, which feels good in my hand. I have found this disc to be good for tunnel shots, because it flies very straight.

The Star Archon is a pretty good disc. I purchased a first run back when I was barely throwing backhand, and the Archon worked pretty well for me. I was even able to get some good forehand shots with at at the time, which is probably not my choice now.

I think Innova's flight rating is pretty accurate for the Archon. It's not incredibly overstable but it is not too understable either. It seems to be right in the middle. This disc offers a good line to anyone, from a nice hyzer to a player with lower arm speed, to a huge roller out of someone with a big arm.

The feel of the disc is similar to a Teedevil or Vulcan, with the ultra-flat top. It has a surprising amount of glide for such a flat disc, although not as much as it's similar counterpart, the Tern. It also feels similar to

If the Tern has too much glide for you, try out an Archon. I liked the Archon back when I was using it, and still like one today. I do not keep one in my bag at this time.

The store had a 167g Factory Second Champion Archon at half-price, and though Champion plastic is more overstable than Star or GStar, I couldn't pass up the deal.  And as I suspected, the Champion Archon was a bit more stable than the numbers.  But I could see the potential of the disc, so I procured a 169g Factory Second GStar Archon.  And as legendary sportscaster Keith Jackson would say:  "Whoa, Nellie!".

(Edited 5/20/15)  I have since acquired a GStar Archon and Star Archon, both at 159g.  I really like the GStar Archon in colder temperatures, and the Star Archon in summer heat.  I like the feel of the Archon in my hands, I can grip it nicely and comfortably.  It may not turn quite the full -2, but it does glide nicely and goes a long way for me without having to overpower it.  The Archon is fast becoming my go-to driver in conditions that are not extremely ideal for me to throw a Blizzard Boss.

Oh, the Champion Archon?  No worries, it has an honored place in my "windy weather" bag.  With the wind beating my face on a downhill throw, I threw the Champion Archon along with my Champion Boss.  The Archon ended up a mere 10 feet behind the Boss, and both of them about 300 feet downrange (huge for me).  I keep the Champion Archon close by for days of adverse weather conditions.

The archon is a great long distance driver. I personally like using the star plastic and I find that is extremely easy to turn over and it will come back. Another characteristic that the Archon doesn't get credit for, is that it' actually faster than it says. I have had it in my bag for awhile and am always pleasantly surprised how fast t glides an its ability to cut through the air. Overall this pretty easy disc to throw at any level.
