The Anax (pronounced "Onyx") is Paul McBeth's new signature fairway/power driver. This 10-speed driver will fight the wind and stay straight down the fairway before a nice fade at the end. Slower arm speeds will find this disc to be very reliable for shorter fairway drives. Big arms can expect big distance out of the Anax.

Brand new this disc will Glide like hell but finished very overstable. I found once they break in they get a much more stable flight and a more mellow fade. I don't have a strong arm 275 is my average 325 is my Max and this disc goes for me when I put the Right Touch on it. I'd say this is a intermediate to Advanced disc that can hook hard when you need it or fight back if you want to flex it. Great addition to any bag. Won't go right to left like a cloud breaker or a destroyer will, but gliding straight to fade like hell it will.

I have 2 ESP Anax. One is flat and the other domey. Neither of them is as over stable or glidey as advertised. For me it is pretty straight with a subtle fade. No turn in the mid flight, and takes some juice to get going. I was hoping it would be my workhorse driver considering the reviews, but sadly it hasn't filled that slot, however it is a nice disc to have. I just don't believe the 6 glide.

Let me start by saying this is the only discraft disc that I bag.  I detest the company in general I think they are vastly over priced and they have way too many plastic varieties and I feel in general u can get better molds from smaller companies at a fair price and if lost those can easily be replaced because there are only 3-5 plastic types which keeps it simple.  The Anax is an exception to the rule however. I did not buy this disc.  I found it on a local course with no name or # on it.  It has not left my bag since.  It is a reliable straight shooter.  It is stable to slightly overstable flight for me with a strong overstable fade at the finish.  Not the meat hookup you would think by reading the numbers.  At high speed I get a slight turn and a long straight line with very good distance before the fade kicks in.  When thrown lower u get the nice big skips u would expect from an over stable disc.  I was amazed at how easy it is to throw.  I believe this is all due to the 6 glide.  I was searching high and low for a stable to over stable driver that would check 3 boxes.  Break in and maintain consistent stability, good straight line distance capability before the strong finishing fade, check the first 2 boxes without requiring 450 power to achieve.  The Anax checks all of those boxes for me.  As much as I detest the company this disc is a home run. Now I just got to make sure I don't lose it because having to spend $40 and try to hunt down an exact replacement while be a royal pain in the ass.

Very reliable overstable disc that fights the wind and always has a reliable overstable finish no matter what angle you through it on. Requires a bit of arm speed for it not to dump right after you throw.

Great overstable distance driver. I have 2 in ESP and neither is anything near 6 in glide. I would say 4.5 at best. It flies kind of likes an invictus, just a tiny bit more glide.

The Anax is a great disc for shots where you need control but also distance. The Anax has a very reliable fade but a lot of glide. Therefore, you're gaining distance and still knowing it will be stable enough to make turns when you need it. The Anax feels great in the hand and fights the wind very well. If you need something slower and more glidey as a Zeus, this is your answer.

This is a great disc for most intermediate to pro players beginners will struggle with its overstability. I find the Anax to be great in the wind and super reliable wherever it is needed. It is a great disc that is overstable but not to overstable. If you are looking for something to flex the anax will do it or if you are looking for an overstable disc with a bunch of glide the anax is also really great. One of my favorite parts about the anax is that it is also great for a forehand it is torque resistant so you can hit flex lines or long shots with very reliable fade. I think this disc is good in any of the better plastics all of the ones I have thrown do not beat in very quick and will stay as a nice over stable workhorse for a long time.

Do you wish your overstable fairway had just a little more punch to cover more ground? The Anax maybe the disc for you!

You can get a little more juice out of the Anax and can depend on it's fade to kick in at the end of it's flight. It will even fight back when thrown on anny for some nice flex shots!

The easiest disc in my bag. It fights winds but isn't super overstable. It's a breeze to both forehand and backhand. Similar to my Star Thunderbird but less fade. I'm mostly used to innova flight profiles, and I'd give it a 9/5/0/2. Cannot stress how straight it flies and how well it deals with the wind. You don't want to flex it too hard, but it will pull out of it.

Great Disc - only give out a few 5 stars and this is a 4.5

Feeling - ESP feeling like a more slick version of star and less flexible.  The top is slight domey which is assumed with a 6 glide. Rim feels smaller like a 9 speed and similar to a thunderbird.

Flight - I get a beautiful s-bend when thrown flat and with power or into a headwind.  It has enough stability to not burn but it's not as trustworthy as a thunderbird. I find it to have some turn and the fade is strong but not enough to forehand.  It will get some good glide and given enough height will have a good fade at the end.

Flight # - it is listed as a more glidey thunderbird and I think it is right on track but if you want a consistent higher speed stable disc for FH and BH I would look elsewhere.

I have to echo the reviews that compare this disc to the Thunderbird. I have a Champion Thunderbird and the ESP Anax and their flights are very similar for me, though the Anax does goes slightly farther. I only throw about 300 feet, so the Anax is a great overstable option for me that I can get a flex out of without any risk of overturning on the backhand and reduced risk of overturning on the forehand.

    Disc - 175 ESP Anax

Feel - The feel of this disc is why I do not throw it anymore. This disc has an interesting lip on the bottom edge of the rim which makes it feel very deep in my opinion. This lip made it feel very interesting in the hand for forehands and backhands.

Flight - The flight of this disc is great. The thunderbird is my favorite disc and the anax flies very similarly but with even more glide. The feel of this disc just threw me off a bit too much for it to go into my bag. I personally always like to feel discs before I buy them, especially molds I have not thrown before, and that is what I would recommend with this disc because it has such an interesting feel.

Overall - The Anax is a really good disc but the feel is different than many other discs so I would recommend feeling it before you buy it.

The anax is practically the only driver (distance or fairway) I throw and have thrown for over a year now minus my roller disc.  I'm bagging anywhere from 4-6 lolss.  Out of the box it's a good bit overstable but still usable for particular shots for the majority of us.  When its seasoned just right (3.5-6 months playing a round a day) - I can send this baby on a dead straight line with the fade coming in very late but still extremely reliable and hard (for reference I'm throwing 380 with it max distance (very beat in)).  I am probably one of the few that can also tell you that after beating it in (esp) for a year of consistent playing, it'll turn into something around 10,6,-3,1.  Its 'that' disc for me that I can use for any line with varying stages of wear.  What I really enjoy about this disc is the sneaky glide but smaller rim that can still get you that distance.

The anax is amazing! I picked one up and was surprised by how long it glided straight for before a consistent fade at the end. As the disc beat in, it has turned into a longer undertaker. I am able to throw flex shots, hyzer flips, almost any angle of disc release with an anax and get an amazing predictable flight. I thought this was just the first run anax, so I bought some proto and stick run anaxs. They both started off more stable than the first run but after beating them in a little, they flew with that perfect seasoned flight.

I've only personally used the Prototype Esp but might I say it's my go-to disc for sure! Out of the box, I would compare the disc flight to a thunderbird from Innova but with significantly more glide once the disc gets seasoned it is a very neutral flying disc but with a tremendous amount of glide for beginners, it's a very useful stable 10 speed but for the more advanced or open player it's a great stable to a neutral disc that can get some real straight line distance.

This is my go to driver for pretty much any tee shot or max distance shot. At speed 10, it bombs just the same as those higher 12 and 13 speed discs especially if you can't get your arm speed high enough. The stability when new is pretty severe as you throw out on flat and will know for sure that it will fade out reliably. My go to Anax is a little beat in and I am able to throw straight tunnel-shot-esque drives without worrying about it turning over. Definitely give it a try for an overstable to stable driver. Also, the rim is not super wide so it is comfortable in the hand for most people.

My Anax is pretty beefy compared to what I read from others, it seems like. My Anax will fly flat for 200 feet or so but then start dumping pretty hard. I struggle to push this disc past 350, even if I give it a great rip. I was hoping this would be like a longer Explorer for me but maybe it is a touch more stable than I like and doesn't seem to get me any further. It flies similarly to my Thunderbird but is less comfortable for forehands, which is why I primarily bag the Thunderbird. Overall a solid disc, but not as game-changing for me as it has been for others.

I had to give this disc a try because I love PMB, but I just never throw any discraft (Innova gang). When I got a misprint Anax in a trade, I went to a field and gave it some throws. I definitely admire the glide on this disc. It is still fairly overstable, but can hold a line in the air for quite a wihle before dropping out of the sky. A glidier Vulture or PD, if I had to compare it to anything. I probably won't throw this much since I have a PDx and FD3 for those overstable control shots. But if I switched over to a discraft bag, this would go in my bag immediately.

This is an amazing disc. This disc has the speed and the glide to get amazing distance but still has all the control of a fairway driver. I can rip this one backhand or forehand. It works great in every situation. I have yet to run into a situation I couldn't make this disc work. The one mistake I have made with it so far is I let my wife throw it once and now it frequently disappears from my bag! I absolutely love this disc and would recommend it to anyone.

I received a Proto for my first ever tournament last year, I was hoping to put it away and start a collection with it, but I threw it a couple of times and fell in love with it. I have since bought another Anax to mainly throw.

A couple things that really draw me to this disc are it's long easy flight even without a ton of power which was great for me being a beginner, it's fairly overstable, but that didn't really bother me as much. The other thing I really like about the disc was the grip, it felt great in my hand and I think this is what really helped me gain confidence in throwing.

Overall, I definitely recommend the disc for all walks, obviously if you're pretty new know it's going to be overstable, but I think it's a great disc to challenge yourself with and to begin to be comfortable with throwing faster discs.

I got this disc because I am a huge fan of Paul and wanted to support him. This disc can be really fun to throw if you throw it well, but from the moment I got this, this thing is stable. I can put it on quite a turnover line and I know it will come out everytime. Which allows for some really nice and long s curve shots. I think this disc would beat a staple in any advanced players bag and would be a work horse driver for a lot. For new players this will probably be overstable for them and not really worth it. I think the intermediate to advanced players would be able to utilize this disc really well because it does have a lot of glide that helps it stay in the air and fly for a really long time.

I bought the Paul McBeth prototype, in ESP, that turned out to become the Anax. I am forehand dominant with this disc and it flies very similar to the Predator, but slightly more understable. It feels really good in hand and isn’t bulky at all. I use this disc for shots 260-350 that need to end up relatively straight to right. It’s very predictable when thrown correctly and though I don’t use it very often, I trust it to use when I need it. I’m starting to throw more backhand, but haven’t thrown the Anax enough to review. Great forehand disc though.

You can't beat the reliability of a Thunderbird, however the Anax may match that. On the few throws that I had on a tight wooded course it went exactly the line I wanted and had reliable fade. Even tried a turnover through some trees and it held quite decently. Will come back to update but the glide as of right now seems closer to a 5 then a 6.

I really enjoyed throwing the Anax for a while. The disc can cruise for days if you get it going and can even be easily shaped when it is beat in. I really enjoy how resistant it is to the wind and I cannot express how much I LOVE Discraft's ESP plastic blend. An all around solid fairway driver (more like a control distance driver) that will be able to do a lot for you once you have it beat in.

This disc is a better Discmania PD! The Anax wasn't a disc I had any interest in until I threw it. It's flight path for me is like a significantly longer teebird.

I always wanted to like the much-loved PD but they never quite clicked with me. I wanted a Control Driver that was:

reliably stable but not beefy, had glide but wouldn't get carried away, would turn the tiniest bit just to maintain a straight line, and had decent speed that I didn't have to rip full-throttle.

I thought that would be the PD. However, it turned out to be the Anax.

I found this disc to be far less stable than advertised. It does have some very strong glide attached to it that may make it seem less than over stable. I throw on a hyzer naturally and found this disc to turn before fading on each of the test throws I gave it. It honestly throws like a latitude 64 saint. Massive distance with a smaller distance wing. Not quite sure I wanted this longer Valkyrie... glidey beast? Domey avenger? Whatever it is it has no place in (my bag)

Could be useful for tailwind drives or finesse drives. Maybe a little distance for weaker forehand players. Luckily I had tried my brother's and didn't have to be too disappointed.

This was the most intriguing of the new PMB lineup so I decided to try one out and it instantly went in my bag! It is a longer, slightly more OS thunderbird. Finish wise, I would actually say that it is like a brand new thunderbird. It skips pretty well and will come back. I will say that mine has added some turn to it while only having it for a month. This is not a problem as it still has a consistent finish, it just happened quicker than I thought. It definitely wasn't a meathook out of the box but I am really digging the flight pattern. It also is a great woods disc. I haven't played a tournament with this yet but I could see me only throwing the anax, a firebird, and a zone for a FH only woods round. Very consistent and reliable.

I would recommend this to a beginner to replace it with their destroyers. It will be a more comfortable and useable OS distance driver.

The Anax is an OK disc, that is pretty much a copy cat of the discmania PD. The disc definitely has significantly less glide than the flight numbers would indicate, as I was throwing this next to a brand new C line PD and a slightly worn in champion starfire and was getting very similar lines out of all of them. On flat to hyzer shots I was getting almost identical flight and distance out of the Anax as I was the PD, out to around 430'. This disc is pretty stable, but does not hold up great into a headwind. If you are a discraft fan and looking for a PD type disc, or maybe a slightly more stable vulture in flight, this disc would be great for you. I just feel like there are other discs out there that do the same thing with better feeling plastic, and with better results in all wind conditions.

As a 300-ish foot thrower, I assumed the Anax would be way too much for me. And although it kind of is too much, I still got a lot more flight than I thought. Having just given my Flare to a buddy because I could get no distance from that meat hook, I was still look for something to replace my beat-in beat-up Firebird. Although the Anax didn't make the cut and I ended up with a Scepter (love it!) it was closer than I thought. I thought the stability and weight would mean I would be lucky to get 150 feet. Well, I didn't get a ton more, maybe 225, but it flew straight a long way before it dumped left.

Realistically, the slot it was filling in my bag doesn't really call for long shots. I used the Firebird, and now the Scepter, for shorter control shots that need to fade hard left. I just like knowing I can get more distance if needed.  My Scepter is a good 13-15g lighter than the test Anax, so no surprise I could get more distance. I also like the C-line slightly better than ESP. If I had a 400-foot shot in me, I would probably just get a heavier Scepter.

Initially I thought this disc was too overstable. But as I have thrown it more, I have started to like it more. My arm speed is not the greatest (up to 350 ft for now). Yet I am able to get a nice straight flight out of this disc, regardless of wind conditions. For me it gives a nice long straight flight without turn, then a reliable fade. I find myself increasingly reaching for this disc over the Teebird when I need that kind of flight: straight, with reliable fade, or hyzer all the way. Because of the glide I can use it in the downwind, have it go far and still finish reliably. So I have become a convert.

I currently have 3 bagged because they are so reliable. For a slower arm speed they will definitely feel very overstable but faster arms will love the straight flight and reliable fade.  My oldest and most beat in Anax flies dead straight and finishes with just the slightest bit of fade. The high glide and very comfortable rim makes it easy to get some good distance.  It is currently my go to driver for anything less than 375ft.

I prefer the proto models atm because it has a completely smooth inner rim.  All production Discraft discs have the lettering embossed on the inside of the rim which can mess with your grip sometimes.

Out of the box they were pretty darn overstable. As my arm speed increases with practice and as the disc beats in, it is starting to fly straighter and straighter. The ESP plastic is always durable, comfortable, and beautiful. I can see with very beginning arms how it could dive very quickly in the flight.

It's to Discraft what the PD is to Discmania; a very reliable and stable controlled driver with solid fade. Amazing flight aside, the feel of this disc really clicked for me. I much prefer the feel of the Anax, in terms of profile and feel, than I do to my PD's. Add in the extra bit of glide it has and the Anax is the winner.

The Anax is a very reliable and stable control driver that flies straight for a long time, has great glide with a reliable fade, and is excellent at fighting the wind. It also makes for good hyzer bombs and drives that you need distance with control and a reliable fade. If I rip it, or there is a decent headwind, it will turn slightly, but it will always stay in control and fight out of it. I've thrown it into some heavy headwinds and it fought out of the turn every time. The extra glide gives it just a touch of turn in the headwinds, but the fade keeps it in control and trustworthy. A new staple in my bag.

Flys Flylly straight, although when you really put some pepper on it, it seems like it considers turning just a little bit. When this thing beats in it will be unstoppable!

Out of the box it flys dead straight and fades decently hard. It won't fight a flex as hard as a firebird so you can put it on an annie and it will hold for a time.

Oh, and that glide. This disc doesn't want to come down considering how stable it is. Great disc!

I am still on the fence with this disc. It is great when given a full throw, but very unpredictable at slower speeds. It flies like a longer floating Raptor, but finishes very strong. If I am not planning to give the disc a full throw, I’m throwing something else. If I need 350+ and a hard finish this might be what I throw. It has been very dependable as a head wind driver as well.

I love this disc, it's nice and straight but always finishes left (RHBH). This disc is good for anyone who has a slight anny flick also. It's a really good disc that has a place in my bag.

The Anax strengths are glide and control.  It owes its glide to being a slightly wider diameter and to having more dome than most drivers.  The rim is comfortable and easy to grip backhand, and provides clean release forehands.

The flight path and flight numbers are right on IMO.  The ESP plastic looks great, is supple, grippy, and durable.  My first one broke in fairly quickly, losing its early dumpy fade, turning into a very controllable, distance/fairway driver.

I had moved on from discs like the Thunderbird, PD, and Culverin, and was throwing only the Getaway in various plastics in this slot.  I think I can still get a little more distance with a broken in Getaway, but if I need to shape a shot with some anhyzer on release, or get some added distance on a forehand with a strong finish and maybe some skip, the Anax has become my goto for these shots.

This is the kind of disc that isn't the best at any one thing, but does a lot of things well.  I think the Anax can range from doing most things for some players to doing some thing for most players.

This reminded me of a culverin, pd, or thunderbird.  My distance drives with full flight is in the 350-380 range to give you perspective.  This doesn't dump for me, probably goes straight for 250-270 before fading.  At my power thrown flat about 8 feet off the ground I would count on 280-300.  On a flex line it will fight out unless it's really forced over.  I also throw an Undertaker which for me I can get to flip up and turn a little before fighting back at very end.  If I was playing a hole where I couldn't afford losing it right (rhbh) I will grab the anax.  Only gives up a little distance for safe control.

I was somewhat curious about the Anax, but since i don't throw divers in this speed class I didn't plan on buying one. I tend to skip from speed 8/9 up to 12/13 and have not thrown a speed 10/11 regularly for several years, but after seeing Paul throw it so well at worlds, I thought I'd throw one on my next order.

It's a nice feeling disc with a good feeling smaller rim and a decent amount of dome. Really reminds me of some of the old Orc runs, but with s slightly higher wing than most of them had.

On the first couple of throws I was giving it some hyzer and it just held the line the whole way and then cashed to the ground in the 360ft range. After realizing that I was giving it more angle than I had intended on some flat throws I actually got it to stand up pretty well and unlock some of that 6 glide that people are touting. It was then a fairly easy task to throw a straight to fade line up to just short of 400ft for me. Very controllable, and the fade is fairly late and steep, so your not looking at big skips unless you take it on a really low line.

Overall it left a good impression. I give it a high rating because I think many people could use it well, but I probably wont bag it myself. I like to use Firebirds at the end of their FH lives for this slot BH and it works well for me, but if you like a little more glide, or a deeper rim this could work well!

So, first off I am a giant vulture fanboy.  This flies exactly like some of my more stable vultures with more glide.  Less overstable than I was expecting, but still handles some wind.  With a surprising amount of glide.  As my vultures wear out I am probably going to be throwing more and more of these, Can't wait for the production and to see them in more plastic types.  Not nearly as beefy as I was expecting and fly just about as far as any other disc I throw (330-350ft with some consistently).  I am sold.

A very reliably overstable disc. This disc is great if you want to put a ton of power on a disc and know that it will fade. I would not suggest beginners try this disc because this disc needs a lot of power to fly.

Field tests: It flew like I had expected. Very close to the #'s. I would agree with them - though if I were to give it flight # and comparing to a Thunderbird that I do feel is 9/5/0/2 the Anax feels to fly a touch faster, similar glide, but a little more fade later in the flight as its gliding out. I would call it 10/5/0/2.5 - but being honest I think the 10/6/0/3 is really fair. That 3 fade is nowhere near a Firebird or a Destroyer. It held on a flat power line very straight, the glide was noticeable but not 'crazy'. The fade depended on the release angle, Flat power throw and the fade seemed more like a solid 2, but on a slight hyzer this will not flip up much at all and fades out fairly aggressive. I feel it would be comparable to a PD or a fairly OS Thunderbird or an OS Vulture.

On the course. Well, first throw with it I hit the pin...so whatever that means haha, it flew nice and as expected. I threw it on a longer 'bomber' hole mainly to see what it could do....i gave it almost all I had and it held nice and straight...nice hold on the glide...and reliable fade without it fading out TOO much, and it was in a great position only 15-25 ft shorter of my Max D drive that I threw first. SO distance-wise I feel speed 10 is accurate, this flew nice and far especially when given some height. I think this disc will be GREAT for cycling especially in ESP - I can see this wearing into a -1/2 kinda flight after extensive use and even a turnover driver after LONG use. So I feel its a nice stable-OS control driver that many people can use and enjoy. Only rated 4 because it isn't the MOST comfortable in my hand.  Its not bad, but has kinda a sharp edge underneath...though i can tell it would wear and probably be just fine - rim size is smaller for the actual SIZE of the disc which I feel has a larger diameter than most drivers in that speed range - which would attribute to the extra glide.  Smaller, fairly pointy rim, wide diameter, small dome.  Overall I do like this disc.

I am really enjoying the new Anax.  I think the flight numbers are fairly accurate and the 6 glide isn't too far off.  This disc has phenomenal forward penetration to complement the strong fade at the end of the flight.  For anyone familiar with the Dynamic Discs Getaway, this disc will feel like a Getaway+; just a little bit more of everything you love.  This is a pretty big compliment since I bag several and I think that it's the best disc DD makes...

I don't have the biggest hands and I love the feel of this disc. My arm speed nets 350-400 ft and this will definitely be staying in my bag. This disc will serve as a very overstable distance driver for slower arms.

Conclusion: for those throwing around 375 ft regularly without huge mitts, this disc will likely net you distance driver results with great control and more comfortable hand feel.

The Anax is great for forehand and backhand throwers.  In my opinion, it is a shorter version of the Force or a longer version of the Predator.  It will hold the line you release it on, but will always fight to hyzer.  I have smaller hands and this fits and feels great for my power grip.

Feel: I prefer the deeper rim so I immediately liked the feel of the Anax. The plastic is also very nice. Stiff rim with flexible flight plate and great grip. The rim is also a comfortable width.

Flight: This is an overstable, fast fairway driver. More OS than a PD, IMO. It has good glide and has a good deal of LS fade. Wind did not impact the flight. It flexes out of the anhyzer line easily. It holds the hyzer well for shorter hyzer bombs.

Overall Impression: This is a great disc for those who like deep, overstable 9/10 speed discs. For me it did not make my bag but it will make many bags in the years to come.

I really liked the way the Anax felt, so I took it out to the course to play with it. My first impression is that it was a bit overstable (hence the 0,3 rating). I also oberved that it went a touch further than other similar overstable fairway/power drivers. Perhaps there is something to that glide 6 after all. When thrown on an anny, it'll always come back. I think this disc is perfect for those overstable hyzer shots or flat to hyzer shots that you need placed particularly well.

Or, if you throw like Paul McBeth, just throw it 500 feet every time!

The Discraft Anax is an overstable control driver similar to an Innova Thunderbird, Starfire, Discmania PD, or a Discraft Predator.

The Anax is a great disc for my backhand style, strongly filling the spot in my bag for a moderately (but not overly) overstable driver. I can throw it with as much power as I want to push it to longer lines, but it always finishes with a nice fade. But it doesn't just dump on the fade-- it has a smooth, controlled glide as it finishes. I'd say it flies a lot like my Discraft Predator, which has always been a favorite for overstable fairway shots.

While it may not be the best disc to hand to a beginner, it isn't necessarily exclusive to experienced players. Even players with less experience or power will find it useful when learning to place shots with different flight patterns. They can try giving it a nice anhyzer flex, or throwing it on a strong hyzer line, etc. I'd say the Anax is another strong win for the new McBeth disc line.
