I was unable to play in the Trilogy challenge, but was able to get my hands on a Trilogy stamped Elasto Sampo 172g. I really like the Elasto, Fluid, and Frost plastic lines from Trilogy. The softer plastic works better in all weather conditions, gives me better grip, and is extremely durable. When I got the Sampo, I was looking for a Trilogy disc that might function kind of like my Thunderbird. I really like it as a replacement, although it is different. I get a little more glide and fade out of my Sampo, and it has more stability as well. Overall, it filled the gap in my bag perfectly.

I throw around 400' and the Sampo flies very strait for me, with a reliable fade. I have even thrown the Sampo into direct headwind and it only made the Sampo hold its line longer. The disc normally goes about 250' - 300' dead strait, and then starts to fade. This isn't my farthest flying disc, but I was putting it out 350' - 400', even in headwinds. The Sampo is stable and dependable. It compliments my other discs very well and is the perfect balance for my arm speed.

I think the Sampo is an extremely useful disc, and is great in all weather conditions. The disc works well for forehanding as well as spike hyzers. This is a relatively stable disc, and I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner. The Sampo will surely keep its place in my bag for a long time.

While everyone at the Trilogy Challenge seemed to dog this disc, I loved it. This bad boy literally won me the advanced division. Found an easy time pinpointing the fade on this disc (RHBH). After I have thrown it more and more, I have found the fade to be less than what others made it out to be. Simply put, I can keep it straight for a good while before it tails off left. The elasto plastic is so so. I'm apathetic towards it. For sure want to get one in VIP or tourney plastic when it hits the market. It is VERY similar to the Westside Northman, just with more fade. The two make a good duo in a bag.

    170 Blue Sparkle Sampo

I'm very surprised with the Sampo being that this was released for the "Grow the Sport" Trilogy Challenge and it's supposed to be an event for new players to get a new experience. This is not by any means a beginner's disc.

However, in more experienced hands, this is a nice driver. Not the warp speeds that most of us are used to throwing, but a very comfortable fairway. Flies like a slightly more OS Saint (which I love)

First thing I noticed was the Elasto plastic. GREAT gummy, grippy, semi-soft premium plastic. A mix between Star and Champion from Innova or a slightly softer Prodigy 400s. Nicely rounded shoulder and lip under the wing, mild dome, slightly thinner feeling flightplate - pushing more of the weight to the wing. This likely helps create the great glide.

Thrown flat, this starts out with a very, very slight turn - about 3-4 degrees - then holds a straight line for a respectable distance before a solid fade. Thrown with a hyzer, this will kick out for a MONSTER spike! It crashes into the ground like a meteor. Useful utility, but only unique situational use. Where the Sampo shines is the flex lines. Thrown with anhyzer, the glide is phenomenal! (As most Trilogy drivers are) Think of a Saint Pro with an afterburner. Speed 10, Glide 5-6, Turn .5, Fade 2.5

"The fade is strong with this one." A fact which a lot of people found as a negative, however, this makes for a much more predictable flight, which I love. Moreover, this also gives a very healthy skip. I was able to get about 10-15 feet extra on some of these skips. Very helpful in the right situation.

All in all, this is a great low speed driver/fairway for reliable, repeatable response. Good controlled fade, little turn, loads of glide.

    Cheers.

I just played my first Trilogy Challenge in Rock Hill SC yesterday.

I read online beforehand and new this was an overstable disc.  I found it to be just that.  The course we played has many strait or right turning holes.  Due to this and also watching many people attempt to Anhyzer this disc without success prevented me from RHBH use.

I decided to use it for flick and Thumber only with great success.  If you are a sidearm thrower or looking for a good overhand disc then this disc works fine.

For beginners it was too overstable and many people saw it turn hard left, especially if they had beginner form and power.

That being said I had some of my best flicks to date with this disc.

Not beginner friendly but I will continue to use this for flicks

Saying this disc is overstable is a bit of understatement. For me it was very overstable. It's definitely not a beginners disc. The Elasto plastic has a nice feel to it. Had it not been for the Trilogy Challenge, I probably wouldn't have picked this disc up.

This is a very overstable driver. Because the disc has a high amount of glide and a slower speed it is still a pretty throw-able disc. With how overstable it is I would not recommend it to beginners especially because it will probably give you terrible technique if you are just starting.

My wife just started throwing and has only thrown a few times, and this is the disc she can get the most distance with, it is so overstable however that it is hard for her to be consistent with it. If you like overstable try this disc.

I  able to try out this disc at the 2015 trilogy challenge this disc is not my favorite but is still a useful disc I use it whenever I need a hard hook or am fighting a strong head wind. The elasto plastic that it comes in is very strong a d grippy it is similar to innova's gstar plastic. I reccomend this disc for people who are looking for a disc to fight headwind or a disc with a good hook at the end

For the driver in a beginner friendly event, I was suprised how overstable the Sampo really was. It was a pretty frustrating disc for many of the beginners. As more of an Advanced player, I really enjoyed using the Sampo in the Trilogy Challenge as it worked great for forehand drives for me. Backhand I could get the midrange Evidence to fly almost as far as the Sampo, so I primarily drove with that unless I wanted a big hook or a forehand throw that faded to the right at the end of the flight. For backhand throws I naturally release everything on a slight hyzer and he Sampo provided a big hooking flight path every time. For my flick throws, this disc would turn over a little bit, but always finish fading to the right. I had a few throws where I turned this disc over too much and it didn't come back.

This was my first experience throwing Elasto plastic, and I was pretty impressed with it. The day of our Trilogy challenge was very hot, but I still liked the grip and flexibility that Elasto provides. In the winter, this will be a fantastic blend.

Overall, the Sampo is a decent all purpose driver, but I personally don't have a need for a driver like this in my bag.
