The Westside King is one of the FASTEST golf discs on the market. While this ultra-fast disc is overstable, it has a decent amount of turn, allowing it to glide and fly further than most discs this fast. Although the King has a 14 speed rating, its rim is a moderate 2.3cm. This is an excellent disc for intermediate and advanced players who want to get more distance on their drives.

This is my maximum distance disc. It's wide rimmed, but I find it much less touchy than other drivers at this speed; it could just be that I've become very used to this disc. I generally throw with moderate hyzer release (RHBH); the King slowly stands up to flat, flies straight a good way, late flight drift to right, more glide, and finishes flat. At full power I need to release the disc with quite a bit of hyzer and give it some air, but it crushes for me. I've gotten so familiar with my King that I often use it for typical fairway shots, straight 300' tunnels and what not. The flight reminds me of the Valkyrie, those discs can bomb too, the King is longer.

Flies exactly like my star Shryke, which I really like, but I was looking for something a bit meatier from the King. Still a nice disc!

Ignore the flight numbers on this disc. I own one in Tournament and in VIP and bag both.  The tournament disc is a little more understable than the one in VIP.  At the moment these are probably my furthest flying forehand discs.  I have less than 4 years experience but only about a year of experience with forehand distance drives   My FH distance is probably in the low 300 range and on rare occasion out to about 350.  My backhand distance is much more consistent and my good drives are generally in the 350-370' range.

Having said that, I generally throw the King for hyzerflips to turn over.  My guess is that if you throw 325' or more you'll need to put some hyzer on the disc to keep it from turning too much.  These discs can get some good distance with less power.

The rim isn't too big and I find the disc pretty comfortable.  Both the Tournament and VIP have a little flexibility to the flight plate for nice grip.  This disc will not hold up in a head wind.

After just a couple weeks with the VIP King, I hit my longest ACE yet on a 345' turnover line.

Here are a few comparisons from my experience (From most understable first to least):

DD Freedom - more understable, less distance with same power (owned 2 in Fuzion)

Latitude 64 Bolt more understable, possible more fade (owned 3 in Goldline)

Westside Destiny - more stable, more distance with less power (owned 1 in VIP and the 1 owned in Tournament was more understable than both Kings (had a lower PLH)

Innova Tern - more stable until worn in, more fade (owned 5 in Star)

Innova Shryke - more stable, more fade, and more control for me when thrown harder but more distance with the King with lower power (own 3 in Champ, 3 in Star, 2 in GStar).

4 stars, Tournament, 173g. The King should not be your main driver, but you’ll love it for hyzer flips in calm conditions or when you have a tailwind. The King is a niche disc. It’s for experienced players with modest arm speeds who can read the conditions and use it selectively. The problem with the King? It flies so damn far you’ll want to throw it when you shouldn’t. This mold is unreliable in headwinds and crosswinds, and is unforgiving of OAT.

Not a beginner disc. It took me a minute to figure this one out. Now that I have figure it out, I love the flight path. You really have to put in some effort to get the rotation quick enough, when done right you can throw this disc hard, fast, and far.

This disc turns over on me. Flight numbers and disc description are not even close. I would never say this disc is overstable at all, almost the exact opposite. Seems like it would be a good disc, jyst not for me.  This being said, I have a max wt white one in tournament plastic for sale or trade hahaha

So the numbers are not correct on it. I would say that it is more a speed 12 maybe 13 if thrown hard enough. It is relatively straight out of the box and works great for hyzer flips to straight with a tad bit of hyzer at the end. Once beat in though dont expect it to fly similar though. I used these for Distance shots new (before switching to the Saint and Trespass). They dont handle headwinds well at all unless thrown on a hyzer and it is new. Once beat in though this discs are amazing rollers (even some that are new if throw correctly). I use my beat up Tournament for forehand rollers (and cut rollers). Overall a great disc if you know how to throw it. Most people dont like it because they dont know how to throw this disc or suck at throwing and blame the disc. Beginners could use it but it will more than likely act overstable for those who are starting out (might even fly straight with hyzer at the end). All in all an amazing disc once you learn to throw, learn to throw this disc, and once you learn what it is capable off. Would recommended trying 10/10.

Don't waste your money on this disc. It will flip over and go straight into the ground. The numbers on this disc are deceiving. This disc isn't overstable at all whatsoever, and can't handle any headwind above 3 mph. The only thing that I might ever use this disc for is a roller.

Furthest flying disc in my bag. has some moderate turn that will keep it floating down range with a decent fade at the end to keep you from going to far right. it can be thrown into a small headwind but not recommended for moderate or strong headwinds. if you have plenty of room and need to get 400+ try a king

I recently got one of the TP big slick Kings, and though it is one of the best looking discs I have ever owned it's so understable I have to give it a big hyzer to keep it in the air.

New players may find that they love the extra boom without needing to have a lot of power, but though I love Kings in VIP and Elasto, the Tournament King isn't for me.

When I first threw this disc, I didn't like it... KEEP READING. It kept turning over on me and going into the ground. I abandoned it, disheartened because it was such a beautiful coloration and I really wanted it to work.
After I go frustrated that I had capped out on my distance around 300-330 ft, I began to teach myself how to throw a hyzer flip. I needed an understable disc to do so, and so I thought, eh why not. So I gave it a try. After just 1 field session with the King and trying the Hyzer Flip technique I was throwing 400-450 feet. I couldn't believe it. I'm about to tweak my form again to try and gain even more distance because I was so encouraged by my gain.
I throw this disc off any tee over 350 feet. I've never had lower scores.

Very fast disc that gets down the fairway quickly. This disc is very wind sensitive for me and sometimes if I try to power one up goes to the right and doesn't stop going to the right. Thrown with some hyzer it is very controllable and will flip up and long with a s curve. This disc can also hyzer flip well. This disc has a lot of distance that is easy distance.

I have owned two King's both in Tournament plastic. The first King I had was great, I could get it to turn out to the right before flexing back left and settling down nicely. I loved it and would throw it more than any other distance driver. I ended up losing that one so I got another thinking it would be close to the same, just not at beat in. I was very wrong. The disc did not fly well at all, I could barely control it and I was very unimpressed by what I was seeing. I eventually traded it out of my bag for a Dynamic Discs Renegade as I was getting a better feel for that and liked the flight more. I know people love the King, it can be great, just wasn't consistent between discs for me

The King flies far and has lots of glide.  This one of the easier speed 13 plus disc to throw for someone moving up to a faster driver.  The disc feels nice in my hand the rim is not to big for me small hands. I can get a nice grip on Tournament plastic.

I find the king more understable that a -1 turn I would put more around -3 and the fade around 2.  I don't care for the flight I get out of the King into a headwind it just turns over on me too much.  Not a bad disc and works well in no winds.  I had a problem just getting consistent flights.

TP 170. This disc is a great disc once you can stretch out your longer throws past 350. For me it is not nearly as stable as the rating, but it is still a blast to throw. It has a big turn for the majority of its flight and then gently hyzers back at the very end while still landing on my left (LHBH). This is my max distance driver for open shots without wind. If nothing else, it is a fun disc to throw that will stretch out your distance. Simply put, it is worth buying and trying out. Buy it in an easy color to find though cause it will absolutely fly beyond your line of sight when you throw it well.

Love the tournament plastics feel and durability. When put on the right angle this disc is the farthest flying disc in my bag. Its not quite as stable as the Westsides numbers suggest, but its glide and speed live up to the hype.

Found this disc one day with some buds and at that time I didn't realize there discs with a higher speed than 13. It was also my first Westside disc. This is my go to disc for long shots, so long as it is not windy as I have found it to get knocked around quite easily. For windy conditions I usually go with a Nuke or Missilen. But this disc straight zooms! I don't have a big arm but have gotten over 400 feet numerous times with the King. Though it has a big amount of fade I can keep it straight for awhile if I release it correctly. If you are a few years into the game I really advise getting your hands on da KING!

I didn't expect to turn this one over but I'm learning.  Throwing 170+ gram drivers I've found this to be an extraordinary driver.  Another bomber more forgiving than the Missilin from Latitude 64 you'll have fun gunning this for 400 feet or more; whatever your arm can handle. My personal comparison starts at speed X with a 5, -1 and 3.  This disc ramps up everything and lives up to and surpasses this.

The Opto King is one of my favorite Distance drivers. My 167g will turn a little bit with a good backhand pull for me, but it is overstable and will always come back providing for good 300+ distance. I got a White Tournament King at 172g, and its flight was about the same, but in the better feeling ultra pretty Tourney plastic. I had assumed that all of the people who say the king is "super flippy" have monster arms, and that's why the king seems understable to them. My friend complained that his King was too understable, so I traded him.

Even though it is only 4 grams (168) lighter than my white King, the flight is completely different. This pink one is RIDICULOUSLY understable. I'm not a big thrower, but even when I release this at a hyzer angle at an elevation of 4,700 feet, it flips completely over and turns right without coming back. This disc is almost unLace understable. I now see what some of you have been saying about the King being soo understable.

If you are looking for a really understable high speed driver, the Tournament King might be this disc for you, but it depends on the specific run I guess. The King you buy might also be about like the flight ratings provided by Westside. For this review, I'm going to give the flight ratings of the super understable one.  I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the inconsistency in the different runs, otherwise the King is a 5 star disc as it is in my bag.

I use this disc for wide open booombs. I can put it between 450-500 in no wind. Though the flight numbers may suggest this disc is overstable it is not it is stable to understable. The king doesn't stand a chance into a headwind and for me it will always flip over a die when released flat or anhyzer. The only way i can throw this disc is when i start it with hyzer let it flip up and glide. If you have this technique in your skill set the king is for you because it bombs but dont buy this disc if you dont have the arm speed to speed up this speed 14 disc or if you are not comfortable starting a disc with hyzer

WARNING THE FLIGHT NUMBER MAY BE DIFFERENT THEN THEY APPEAR!! That should be on the back of just about all Westside discs. So let me start this review by telling you the King is not a speed 14. The 2.3cm rim width makes it a speed 12. The king is advertised as 14.5.-1.4 and I have never thrown one that comes close to that, and I have carried a king or two in my bag since 2011. The VIP kings at max weight are around 12.5.-2.3, and the max weight Tournaments are around a 12.6.-2.2. The King is a great disc for all players from the beginner, or the top pro. Just your skill level will determine what you use this disc for. If you are throwing in the 250, to 300ft range, and want a disc that could help you add some feet to your drive, the Tournament king could do that for you. If you throw 350 or more the king could be great turn over driver for you to smash that 400 foot + line that you need stay right RHBH. All I will Say is I love this disc for many different shots in the sport of disc golf, and will have a King in my bag for long time. Side note not all kings are equal. You want to pick a king with big dome or POP TOP, when you push the flight plate down it should pop back up and make a popping sound. David Felbderg would say make sure it has heart. This will add glide and make sure your king is more over stable.

I have 2 tournament kings in my bag 170 and 174...the lighter one seems to be more flippy than the heavier one. The flight ratings should be more 14 5 -4 1 because i great a huge turnover shot great in a tailwind and glide for days. I personally have thrown this disc around 450ft and I've only been playing for 6 months. But at the same time this disc is very fickle one throw may give you a huge turnover then the next will show you a flight path more similar to the ratings. Still with that being said it's still my go to tailwind disc. The heavier king gives a flight path very true to the ratings possibly because of the weight. Either way i prefer to throw trilogy discs over others because they seem to be more consistent than anything else I've thrown.

Bought a Tournament King at 168, and I don't think I'm ready for it. Flies straight for a bit, then fades out, doesn't get great distance. If I had a bigger arm, it might work better. But it might be good for me to fight a headwind. I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate, I suppose. YMMV. I'm currently getting better results with a Bolt, Beeline, Cannon, and Promethius (173). Don't let this review discourage you - if you can throw 350' or more, it might work well for you.

Ok, so I bought a Max Weight tournament plastic King. Plastic feels pretty nice. It feels like you would expect premium plastic to feel--it's not my favorite but its just fine. It is definitely not as flippy as my 160 king..of course, but it is still a disc that will turn right and not come back. The thing about this disc though is that it will straight bomb. If you hyzer flip this disc it will go and go and go and go. For me it may end up being a tail wind disc or an open field hyzer flip disc. This disc needs room to operate in my opinion. A lot of pros use it as their go to distance roller and I can definitely dig that.
