The Viking Thunder God Thor is a very fast distance driver with an ultra-wide rim. This is a driver that you can trust to fade out at the end of the flight, even if released at an anhyzer angle. Advanced players looking for maximum distance will want to try throwing the Thunder God Thor.

    Armor Details

Armor plastic from Viking Discs is a durable, yet very comfortable, opaque plastic blend that is very similar to Star from Innova, or Gold Line from Latitude 64. It is a top-notch plastic blend especially for drivers -- able to take a beating and keep performing.

The Thunder God Thor in Armor plastic is much more over-stable than the 2.0 Fade stamped on the disc.  I expected the Armor plastic to be somewhere in between Innova's G-Star and Star plastic; I quickly realized it may look and feel like these comparable plastics but the Armor plastic is much more stable and more durable than expected.  I found this disc to be a very useful RHFH disc that will almost always fight out of an anhyzer release and fade consistently.  As a predominantly RHBH player, I also found this disc to be extremely useful for Hyzer lines or just releasing the disc flat when throwing into a strong headwind.  Because of the over-stable nature of the disc, I have actually found it to be comparable / in between to an over stable Innova champion thunderbird (S9 G5 T0 F2) or an Latitude opto Pioneer (S9 G3 T0 F4).  Again, due to the discs over-stability, I have seen some interesting ground play / skips with this disc which is surprising since it is a grippy style plastic.  I would imagine the storm plastic version of this disc will catch edge even easier and deliver more consistent ground play.

Perhaps the stamped flight numbers would reflect the actual flight of a consistent 400-450 Ft thrower but I have only been able to get around 325-350 Ft out of this disc.

This disc in armor plastic is super hard to throw for anyone without an insane arm speed. With a backhand throw, it just dives straight into the ground for me. The only way I make this disc work is with a left-handed forehand with a anhyzer release. This disc will battle and beef out so hard to fight to end up left from the forehand. With this technique I can get some great distance, but with backhand it is meat hook.

When I reviewed the Thunder God Thor last time, I reviewed it when I only had the base plastic. I was so impressed, I thought that if this driver was as capable in the base plastic, surely it's older brothers would be just as good, if not a tiny bit better. I was wrong. The Armor Thor is an absolute monster, and much more capable than what I had hypothesized were my best case scenarios. With the other Armor plastic discs, it is much more stable, despite keeping the same statistics. How much more stable? Like, DX Destroyer to Halo Star. Yeah, seriously. In fact, I sheepishly admit that I have a hard time getting the most out of this disc. I haven't felt like this since I tried to throw a TeeBird for the first time I ever played. Unless you're over 950 rated I very much doubt you will be able to turn this disc over reliably. For lesser mortals (see: the guy writing this review), I use this if I have an absolute chance to rip a disc, or need to fight a big head or crosswind. Although I haven't tried this yet, I bet you could get a decent James Conrad style force over/straight finishing shot with the Armor Thor. I can't decide if I'm excited for this to be beat in or not; I would rather button down my form before that happens. With my luck, I'll have matured into a bigger arm the same time the disc is beat in. Which means I'll have a rocket at my disposal, and a 380 plus drive. Poor me, right?

Pros: This is your new, farthest flying disc. The Armor Thor is an absolute rockstar and firstborn of a marriage between Latitude 64's Missilen and Innova's Vulcan.

Cons: For this disc to live up to its name, you need the arm. If you can get regular 400 foot drives with a Star Destroyer, this is your disc. If you don't have that, you'll have some trouble.

I think my Armor Thor is defective. It flies pretty much like my Stego and just dive bombs to the ground it’s so extremely overstable. I have no problem throwing my Ballista Pro far and straight, but I can’t get this disc to fly straight at all. I’ve tried to beat it in, but this Armor plastic is amazingly (and frustratingly) durable.

But the good news is that it looks like I won’t need to buy a Tilt. This Thor flies pretty much how I see the Tilt flying in videos I’ve watched.

I can’t rate it very high because it does not fly like it’s advertised and/or they have manufacturing issues.

I don't have the arm speed to throw it in the air but its long sharp rim makes it an AWESOME tomahawk roller disc.

I have a flat-topped Storm version, about 170g. This disc is a meat hook. It is much more overstable than the numbers suggest. I think it is comparable to a Westside War Horse or an Xcaliber. My arm has been progressing and my range has increased into the 350-400' range with a stable-understable speed 14 disc, but I still can't handle this disc. This one is for pros.

I have this disc in Armor and Air plastic... let me tell you this disc is BEEFY. My mortal arm is not enough to get much distance with this guy, but is great as a utility driver if you need  hard hyzer or low ceiling. The armor plastic seems indestructible. Huge fan of Viking Discs and hope they are still in business, or making a comeback.

Definitely NOT a disc for beginners.

This beast is a meat hook for my noodle arm. Great utility disc with a big beautiful skip. Nice pop top.

This disc flies  straight is a slight fade on the end. Watch out for a huge skip with its huge sharp rim. Unfortunately armor only comes in black and being a long distance disc it can be hard to find at times. After some use the stability has gone down some and flips over a little
