    Viking Air Details

Viking Air plastic is a lightweight version of Storm plastic with added air (small bubbles) in the disc rim in order to make the disc lighter without compromising its designed flight characteristics. It is a very durable blend that will maintain the same disc flight for a long time, even after playing heavily wooded courses. This is a clear transparent plastic with a glimmering shine.

The Ragnarok, technically, is the straightest flying disc that Viking makes. I use it more or less exclusively for my forehand drives, bombers off of the tee when my backhand shot shaping just isn't going to be up to par. (Sorry) I don't have a whole lot of finesse with my forehand, so I rely on the Ragnarok to keep me honest with a flat release at max power. I kind of compare my backhand and forehand to my right and left foot when I was soccer captain in high school. With my right foot, I could shape shots on target, and finesse the ball to my teammates, at least as well as I could manage. My left foot, however, was exclusively reserved for absolutely uncorking monster power shots since the finesse was nowhere to be found. While I am still working on my backhand, my forehand shot came very naturally to me. I instantly was able to generate a decent bit of power, and I've refined that now to be as consistent as possible despite only really having that flat release and max power only-shot. Why am I telling you all this? Well, if you're in the same boat (The S.S. Monster Forehand) then this is a fantastic disc for you. I have found a home for this disc in the huge tunnel shot department, and despite the sharp edges and flat top, it will drift cautiously to the left before coming back home.

I do believe Viking really has nailed their flight ratings, but this is the best example. All of the stats work together so well. My threshold for distance drivers begins at speed 11, and especially in the air plastic the driver maintains a stubborn glide. The Air plastic, by the way, is awesome. It really will tamp down on the flaws in your form, as the disc becomes that much more sensitive to any missteps. You wouldn't think the difference would be that big, but here we are. Obviously, however, this makes for a very difficult disc to use when dealing with a windy day. Just be careful with it, don't bring it out when you've got gusts. Also, Don't trust the fade to bring you back in bounds.

PROS: VERY straight flyer if the power is adequate. Tunnel shots are no longer an issue if you nail the release.

CONS: The Air plastic is very different from the other plastics, I recommend lots of fieldwork if you are transitioning from the Ground or Armor plastic.

I really love this disc because it soars!  It flips up straight so easily and is very forgiving.  I have enjoyed using this for both back hand and forehand.  The 157g option is my favorite so far. The

Nice plastic, for sure. My first Viking disc and won't be my last! My disc is a 157g air. I was looking for a replacement for my long lost Blizzard Wraith. I was pleasantly surprised by the flight. Out of the box it has nice flip and glide but not too much turn like a Blizzard Wraith. It sort of reminds me of my beat up CD3. Just better. I love the grip. Champion like but soft. This will be my go-to 11 speed for now.

Also, this Air plastic has bubbles like all of the other air stuff out there. I really dig Viking's version because the bubbles do not extend all the way to the edge of the wing. Ever see Blizzard plastic after a couple tree hits? It comes apart. Viking Air is solid at the rim. Looks pretty durable.
