I lost my trusty beat in Z Surge SS. I used that driver for most long tee shots unless I need more dramatic angles. I tried the Tesla, Volt, and Ion in the last year and liked them, so I thought I'd look for a similar disc from MVP/Axiom/Streamline. I was pleasantly surprised to see Streamline Discs Trace. The price is right, and I already know I like the plastic. The flight specs are pretty much the same as the Surge SS, so I bought this.
I might be premature, since the disc was delivered this morning, but... I played 36 holes today using the Streamline on all holes long enough to require its distance, and I LOVE this disc. 173g NEutron misprint.
I'll compare to Surge SS, which is basically a Krait, and similar to many other -1 turn/ +2 fade ~400' discs. This flies like my Surge SS, and feels like it has more glide. It could just be the feel of the plastic, and not the actual flight- I haven't field tested them side by side. Brand new it turns like a beat Surge SS, which is some, but not a lot at 173g. It fades like the Surge SS, too, which makes it forgiving and reliable. Brand new, this Trace fades like a beat Surge SS. The plastic offers great grip and release, and is durable. I hit at tree at full swing about 20' from the tee on my first throw of this disc (of course!) and there was not a mark on it.
This speed, flight path, rim size, and plastic are all my preferred stuff, so I'll be bagging these!
update-
I bought a 2nd 167g Neutron to have the 2 weights. The heavier one definitely fades harder. The lighter one turns a bit more and fades a bit later, so it gets used a bit more. They have not changed much with minimal break in. That's good.
I don't forehand much, but these are hands down my favorite forehand/sidearm discs. The rim dimensions are very comfortable, and the plastic allows me to hold and release with ease and confidence. They are plenty OS enough to tolerate the torque. I can get a righteous S curve with the right release angle; flat they fly straight and fade for me.
**update 1 year later** This is still awesome, and I use it a lot. The disc has broken in. I can flip it up a lot easier now. It's turning more now, too. It's turny in a headwind now, and better in tailwind than when new. Great for flip-straight shots with a strong finish.
But the real reason I'm writing this update is to tell you this is a KILLER skip disc! I presume the stiff, slick neutron material is a big part of it, and of course rim shape. I don't have another control driver (or slower disc) that can skip like this. Longer range drivers will skip too, but this one is best for the control/short skips.
