As the second distance driver in the Prodigy line, the D2 is very similar to the D1. This driver has the same diameter, height, rim depth, and wing length. With a 2.3 cm wing, this is a very fast driver. The Prodigy D2 is overstable, but not quite as overstable as the D1. It has a higher degree of high-speed turn, and slightly less low-speed fade. This driver is used by players with a variety of skill levels.

The D2 is a great distance driver. It has a unique feel in the hand. The shoulder is generally higher than most and the rim goes further down than other drivers. It might take some getting used to the unique feel, but I find that it fills out my hand really nicely. The D2 is slightly overstable. New ones can pop up just a touch before having a dependable fade. Once they beat in a little bit they can fly forever. D2s are easily my farthest flying discs.

    I love this disc.

Like most (all?) manufacturers Prodigy has some inconsistency with their products here and there, but I haven't found it to be as egregious as some claim. The main issue being variance in plastic, which I think comes down to material suppliers and unfortunately not something that is easy to address. Most noticeably, for me, is 400 plastic. Sometimes it is opaque and sometimes it's transparent. Sometimes it's stiff and sometimes its soft and rubbery. Regardless, I appreciate the variation because it allowed me to have 3 D2s in my bag, all the same plastic, but automatically filled the overtstable, stable, and understable distance driver slots in my bag.

I have to admit that the main reason I wanted a D2 in the first place was watching Kevin Jones crush his red D2 time after time after time. I wanted to get some in 400G plastic, but with the COVID shortages I couldn't find much of anything until there was a big drop in 400 plastic and I grabbed 4 of them. They've been a staple in my bag since.

Now that the COVID scarcity has abated, I've got it in other plastics like 400G, 500, 750G, and a couple more in 400. They're all more overstable than these original ones in 400, and the higher the number goes, the more overstable they are. It's nice to know that as I start to turn these over with more regularity, I've got a backstock of more stable versions of my favorite distance driver.

The D2 can be a great disc, very Destroyer like with long distance and consistent hook-up. At different points in time, this has been my go to disc for long shots that need to fade at the end on both forehand and backhand. My only issue with this disc and with prodigy in general is the inconsistency of these discs. I have had D2s that are so overstable they go into the field back right away and maybe make it into my round bag 6 months later. That is a long time to break in a disc. Also, I have purchased D2s that were good right away. I had a D2 that was my favorite disc right out of the box, but unfortunately I lost it. I am reviewing 400 plastic, because that is the most common to my experience, but I have tried 400g and 750 as well with similar results. 400 plastic is great, giving a nice firm grip. I used D2s, D3s and D4s almost exclusively for about 2 years. Now the D4 is the only disc that remains in my bag and I use it for straight forehands and long backhand turnovers.

I got a domey translucent D2 that has a lot of overstability to it. It is more stable then my 500 D1 and is the most overstable disc in my bag. I can trust to throw it out flat and it will get a good flight that is hyzering out almost the whole way. If you rip the D2 on an anhyzer line it will fight out quick and get some good distance with a strong fade. I can trust the D2 into a headwind and know it will not turn and burn. I was hoping for a straighter flight with the D2 and I think a lot of them will have that, but my really domey one is not one. It feels great in the hand and the 400 plastic is really great.

    175g 400 Plastic

    Distance: 300-350'

Feel: 400 is one of my favorite plastics. Most similar to opto/lucid but not quite as firm and a little more grippy. I prefer my discs to be flat which this one is not but it doesn't bug me because the plastic is just pliable enough to dig my fingers in slightly. Feels good for backhand and great for forehand. Rim is not that wide, closer to an 11 speed imo

Flight: A great disc that I can use and grow into. Being a 12 speed is does take some power but with 350' or more of power the numbers are pretty much spot on. This disc flies farther for me on forehand than pretty much any other disc. Backhand I do have to put it on a little any to get some turn but think once it is broken in a bit it will be perfect for my arm speed.

Beginner: 6/10 - need a lot of power

    Intermediate 10/10

    Advanced 10/10

This disc bombs.  For me currently (400-420 max backhand) it is the farthest flying disc I have ever thrown.  In 400 plastic mine is more workable than a star destroyer, which I still find to be too overstable for my arm.  My 400 D2 when released flat, flips up just a tad and holds straight forever.  It also has the same forehand flight, although I can only get a forehand out to about 350 max.  The rim is beefy and feels just like you would expect for a 12-13 speed driver.

Prodigy also makes some of the best feeling plastic out there - their 400 plastic is my favorite plastic from any manufacturer.  There's a reason why basically every prodigy pro throws a D2 on every drive - they go far far far.

The disc I have is nice. It feels good and the plastic is grippy. However the flight numbers are off for me. It's fairly flippy, I am by no means a power thrower to be sure but this flies more like a D4. So I have to deduct a point for it not being accurate to numbers.

I wouldn't compare this to a destroyer but more like a wraith. Great disc to have multiple copies in different stages of wear. Very glidey, can turn pretty wide if muscled too much. Nice forehand disc too. Great multi use disc.

This is my most throw disc out of my bag for drives! I can throw this flat and it will fade to the right a little bit and come back to a decent finish left. The glide on this disc is unreal and the rim feels perfect for my grip and release. If you haven't tried this disc out I would make it a top priority to get one.. forehand, no problem a very good stable to over stable finish disc and it feels right!

Do you wish you had the arm of a god? Well with this disc you can. This disc flys so far that Not even Zeus’ lightning bolts could have a chance.  The mere mortals that cannot harness the power of the almighty D2 cannot begin to comprehend what this disc can do.  The first time you pull this disc out of your bag You will feel like Arthur pulling the Excalibur from the stone.

But seriously this disc flys further than any driver ever made. Give this disc a try and I bet you that you will be throwing much further. The various plastic types will give you various stability’s  some are great for headwinds some a great for big hyzer flex shots .  Pick up a few you won’t be disappointed.

The 400 D2 is my new favorite distance driver. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable disc for max distance forehand and backhand. This disc is controllable for all types of shots and has a predictable fade that makes it perfect for accuracy and distance. Try the 400g plastic for a similar flight with a touch more stability.

This is my go-to driver.  I picked up the 450 Core Team stamp disc second hand and love it.  Right away, it wants to fly.  It's a lot less "meathooky" then other discs with similar numbers.  It can be thrown on an anhyzer for a nice s-curve, or even hyzer flipped if you have the power.

This is NOT a meathook driver; this is a great "distance" driver that you can shape.   It flies very differently then the D1.

If you like prodigy, I'd highly recommend this.  If you are interested in trying out the discs, this is a great driver to bag.

D2 is a trustworthy beast. She holds 325 before breaking when thrown with slight hyzer. Reliable and still able to push 400ft. D3 goes further, but you loose that consistency.

This is another disc that has grown on me immensely as my arm has developed. I am a flicker (RHFH) and let me tell you, this is one of the best feeling discs in my hand. The plastic is smooth and it just glides off your hand like butta! I'm not sure I agree with the Innova numbers that this one gets, (13,6,-1,3). For me I'd say more like -1,2, like a slightly more stable and faster Archon. So why is it important that I say it's a 3 instead of a 3 for the fade? Because a 3 would typically indicate that it's a good stable disc good for the wind. The D2 is not. I don't care for it in any kind of wind, but it's ok with a tail. It is, however, exceptional in the rain. I attribute this to the plastic more than the design. It provides just enough grip that the disc isn't slippery when wet, but not so much that it clings to your hand. As for range, I can usually hit 400+ ft with the right disc. This one usually goes about 350-380, but that seems to be improving as it gets more use. In all, I'm falling more and more in love with this thing as time goes on.

Jury is still out on the D2. My proto was great off the shelf, lots of glide, but has turned more flippy than I would like. I grabbed a 400G version and it is different. Honestly it flies about like the inbounds chart. That is good, but I don't like that it differs so much from my proto 400S. Based on the way my production disc flies, I could get by without it. Give me a D1 and a D3 and I will be good to go. I am still lugging it around and hope that once it is broken in I will find it more useful.
