The A4 is a slightly overstable disc that fills the distance gap between midranges and putters and is designed for all skill levels. The disc is consistent and reliable in moderate wind conditions and perfect for short approach shots. It works equally as well for backhand or sidearm throwers. The A4 is similar in feel and flight to the A3, except for a slightly straighter finish.

I've been learning a lot recently and revisited my approach lineup. I just added the A4 back to the bag again and it's there to stay.

This disc definitely seems like it could be a polarizing based on its handfeel: I tend to like chunky, rectangular, and flattish rims. Its rim is unlike anything else I own and fits that description perfectly. It's the most comfortable slow disc I own for approach forehands for my square meatpaw (vs. Harp, Zone, Pig, various mids or putters).

Among other approach discs, I tend to bag the Zone the most, but I started taking advantage of the slightly more neutral flight of the A4 now that I have better angle control. The A4 will carry forward a little more than my Zones and still fade reliably. A4 still will fade pretty hard within 150'. As it gets out to 200'+ it seems to show its turn on a flat-ish release, but it still fades back when thrown well past that distance. It doesn't really risk a turn-and-burn unless I give it significant OAT or there's a stiff headwind.

I really like the A4 for up to 200' and closer. I've experimented with it on high lines of attack with baby anhyzer stalling shots that drop onto the target, low straight forehands, and more aggressive anhyzer and hyzer lines. It is very true to how it is thrown (not a meathook), with just enough overstability to make it fit a versatile approach role. I might worry about accidental torque on forehands (mine is still developing), but I tend to use it for touchier, mostly straight forehand shots 200' and in. It does great w/ just enough overstability to make me confident unless I'm being pretty sloppy.

When I throw the A4 harder (up to ~300' of power), it'll follow an anhyzer angle the whole way if you give it enough of one out of the hand and tend to flatten out at the end. So I can use it for mid-range turnovers that need to settle where a Comet might risk a skip or roll. The A4 will also follow a beautiful hyzer line or take a hyzerflip that penetrates forward or fades back at the end depending on how much angle and power you give it. It's just a very versatile disc.

From playing a few rounds with it, I feel like my 400g A4 was maybe closer to 4 4 0 2.5 out of the box, but showing signs of wearing into its 4 4 -1 2 stats (could just be me getting used to it too since its handfeel is distinct). It fills a gap right between my mids, putters, and more aggressive approach discs like the Zone. I'm noticing I can use the A4 to shave strokes here and there and hit a few lines especially when the Zone might fade a little more than I need, require more power, or risk skipping - the A4 is a little more shapeable and seems to like to *splat* more wherever it lands. My A4 only seems to skip on very shallow angles or when I hit pretty hard, dry terrain. The Zone tends to come out now when I need more late fade, distance control at a longer range, a baby skip, or have a more significant headwind. But the A4 is eating up a lot of shots where I'd usually power up on a Zone.

So, the A4 seems like a disc I don't hear a ton about and might be redundant/polarizing for some people, but I'm really glad I added it back in. It may require a little more finesse than a Zone and similar discs in the approach role, but it is a well-rounded disc if that suits you. It's worth a look!

Loving this disc. I love the square rim and neutral flight. It compliments my A3 very well. I use the a4 for backhands and the A3 for sidearm.

The A4 is extremely shallow with a big bead and flat top. I happen to like shallower putters, this is too shallow. I am someone with smaller hands, and I feel like there's nothing to grip on this disc. If you can palm a basketball, I'd avoid it. With the shallow rim plus the bead, it almost has a Groove like feel to it. I don't like it.

Flight was it flew pretty much as expected. Thrown flat it will turn a touch before fading back. It isn't quite understable enough to hole the Anhyzer to ground with a slight anhyzer. It will hold a hyzer as well. It has some versatility, no doubt. If you can manage the rim of it in your hand you can make it dance.

This disc is awesome, I've purchased 10+ mids and just never really liked anything enough to stop the search. The A4 in 400G was one I picked up locally before knowing what it was and it is the disc responsible for turning me into Prodigy, it just felt amazing in the hand. I've thrown it quite a bit in the field and in game and I do think it's slightly faster than advertised, I can throw this flat further than any mid I've tried, my longest throw with it in fair conditions is 330' RHBH and I can consistently throw it 300', I don't throw this disc FH though because I'll burn it on a hard rip. The A4 shines for most shots 50-200' out, it's a great complement to the A3 which is what I use for FH.

My first review. I throw RHBH. Max throw on flat land with no wind speed with yellow A4 400g plastic 171gram is 270ft.  My overall max throw on flat land with no wind speed is 320 ft. with Lat. 64 river 167gram.  I love the low rim, but on rare occasion it slips out of my hand. This disk is my workhorse. I can skip it, hyzer it, flex it, drive it and putt with it. As a beginner, I found it very useful as a meat hook utiltiy disc. Now that it is broken in, I use a Justice as my utility and can easily use the A4 as an everything disk accept for distance beyond 240 feet.  The glide improves with every throw and yet it keeps steady on a high speed turn. It fades nicely without trailing off too far. It does not push forward at the end of flight, but thrown low with power will help push it forward on a skip shot. It rolls well, but it is a bit over stable and tricky to put on its edge.  My favorite disk by far (and I have thrown a ton of disks).

This disc has become my GO TO disc in the Prodigy line. I have always been primarily a midrange thrower. This is the one disc that I would use for a one disc round. I typically throw forehand with this disc. Distance anywhere from 75 ft out to around 300 ft. Has great high speed stability and resists turning over. I do get turn then fade on my powered up distance shots. This disc will also hold a very good anhyzer line for me as long as I give it good spin.

This disc is the one disc that everyone falls in love with when I let people test out my Prodigy plastic.

It is also the one that I gift to friends.

Try one out in 400g plastic. I have NOT had the opportunity to throw the new 400 plastic runs as of yet.

Bought a used one from my local store and ended up using it for a whole round. Perfect for those forhand shots in the woods. Flys straight  with a slight fade to the right at the end. Flat nose and a thick rim make for a comfortable grip.

This disc is beefier than the flight chart suggests but extremely shapeably so.  It turns a little  at high speed but seemingly because it wants to,, not because of something so trivial as your form or the physics of the universe.  It powers down to zero turn very well without a spiking fade.  The flight of the A4 leaves nothing more to be desired in an OS approach disc or stable short mid-range, but (and like the A3) for me the grip is a little weird (maybe like an M4 or M5 sort of wing?).  The A4 is flat unlike the domey A3 but its rim is maybe too shallow for me to get a power grip or finger hold for FH.  Still hoping for a "three-and-a-half" approach disc as I love the flights of the A3 and the A4 and feel like if their geometries were averaged all would be good in the Prodigy world.  The Prodigy A series is stellar nonetheless and I bag all four of them (but normally two at a time pending the course)..  Large diameter mid-ranges be darned, darned to heck, because I'd rather throw these shorter, smaller diameter, discs.

This disc is a beast. I currently bag 3 all max weight and could not be happier. I throw with a mix of forehand/backhand and this disc covers both excellently. Forehand esspecially, I have a terribly difficult time throwing lower speed discs forehand (conventional putters and mid-ranges) but i can launch this guy 300 feet and get just what I want out of it. Prodigy needs to fix the naming of their A series. by their standards a4 should be severly understable but I do love the flight rating of this disc. If you have issues throwing low speed discs forehand, I highly recommend snagging one of these guys

I picked up an A4 recently to test out.
It was 400G 174g White w/ black stamp.

The disc itself is very low profile and flat. There is minimal shape to it. Looks very square on the edge. It has a small notch on the underside of the rim and a decent sized bead at the edge. These two almost even each other out as the grip is very flat/flush. So, the disc feels comfortable to grip in almost any way. A nice solid feel to it.
The flight was as expected, but I was still impressed. I would give it Flight #'s 4/4/-0.5/1.25 Overall very straight flight on a mostly even/flat release with 85% power throw. Has a slight turn over, but not much unless you want it to by giving it a little anhyzer angle or more power. It did have a confident small hyzer fade in the end. I placed this on some very straight throws and nice small hyzers. It is something that you can throw with some power and not worry about a huge turnover (though if you throw it in certain ways it would be a nice anhyzer disc as well). I threw it on some 'Buzzz'-type shots. The A4 flew fairly similar.
For my short range discs I use a mix...but of my recent line-up I would put the A4 right in the middle of a Proxy and an Envy. It flew closer to the Envy. Very similar. The Envy has a little more glide and seems to be a little more overstable overall. Similar Speed, similar shot types you'd use it for. Envy may be more like an "A3.5" if using Prodigy terms....if that makes sense.
I liked the A4. Even more than I thought I would. I like that it is more confidently stable than my Atom or Proxy. Nice all around approach disc. Ranges of 100-225ft work well.

    * As for the flight path from Inbounds.  I didn't see such dramatic turn from this disc thankfully.  Their flight chart makes this disc look more understable than it is I believe. my disc was 174g, not sure if that makes the difference or not.

UPDATE: Picked up a 300 A4. There was a slight dome in the middle.  Flew very similar but not as High Speed Stable.  Still good disc, better grip for winter

Like the others have said, the A4 is unique. The rim is a different shape, but I can't say I am entirely surprised by that, the H4 also has a different rim from its other H series discs. Unlike the H4, I actually really like the A4 for approach shots. It took me a few rounds with it to figure out if it was going to stay in the bag or not.

I initially was trying to use full power on this disc as a driving putter/disc thing, and found that I still was unsure. Part of that was because I was trying far too hard and was not giving the disc a good clean release. Where I really began to like this disc was on the approach shots, like it was made for. I found it to have a very nice clean release for those touch upshots that don't require a whole lot. Both forehand and backhand shots felt great with it, the rim while different fits nicely in the hand.

As a driving disc, once I got over the bad attempts with it, I found the disc to be pretty reliable. It didn't do well in a head wind, it turned it over and just kept going. But in anything else the disc sails and is a great selection. I like driving with it more than I do with my Harp just because of how comfortable the rim is in my hand. Definitely worth a shot for anybody who hasn't tried one.

Profile: Low profile disc, if you have a smaller to normal size hand (like me) this fits great. The rim is very odd, nothing like it on the market, very rounded edges but the more I throw this disc the more I like it.

Flight: This isn't understable as advertised, this is a great stable throwing putter though.  I get just a bit of turn out of it and a good amount of fade at the end.  It does really well into a head wind too.

Comparisons: The closest disc in my bag to this would be the Prodiscus Jokeri.  Now this was one of my favorite throwing putters but I am liking the A4 more due to the smaller profile disc!

Final Thoughts: I didn't buy this to replace my Jokeri, I was hoping for a neutral flying low profile putter.  So although it didn't meet my initial criteria it still made my bag.

FLAT! The A4 is so flat and thin making it super easy to throw. This disc flies straight, but will hold a line you put on it. This disc is in my bag for those shots that need a little more than a putter and a little less than a mid. It is also great for putting those longer distances and it seems to stay put at the basket and not skip away. The flatness of this disc is helping me with short forehand throws.

This is an all over great utility disc for anyone!

I love the new Prodigy A4.  This disc just helped me have one of my best disc golf rounds ever while throwing it on nearly every hole at my local Providence course. The thing I like best about it is that it is a completely unique disc. It is quite different from the domeyness of the other Prodigy A-series discs. There is nothing else like it on the market. This disc is completely flat, which I love for a forehand approach disc, has a shallow rim depth, but a relatively thick rim width which makes this thing smooth for short forehand throws. The rim has kind of a wierd notch in it, but it doesn't seem to play at all in my throwing and doesn't seem to make much of a difference one way or another.

When it comes to flight patterns, I also like the way it flies for forehand throws. Throw it flat and it is relatively straight, throw it on the hyzer angle and it fades nicely, and quite far in the Hyzer direction. If I try and throw it full power forehand it usually does flip over and go uncontrollably far to the left, but that's not primarily what or where I use this disc for.

It works well enough for backhand throws too, and for me there is stable/overstable. It's nice and straight but always fades at the end. If you're looking for distance, this isn't the disc, for me I max it out backhand with a controlled normal throw at about 230 feet, so this is a great disc for when you don't want to throw too far.

Overall, I'm a big fan of the A4, and it just might be replacing my Dynamic Discs Suspect in my permanent bag.

The A4 is a pretty cool and unique disc. The most unique thing about it is its rim and shape. It looks almost like a beaded putter was flattened by a press. Some people may not like the way it fits in their hands, but I liked it overall. The A4 is more understable than the other A-series discs, but I wouldn't necessarily call it an understable disc. The A4 I would say is a more shapable and workable disc though. Lower arm speeds that had a hard time with the other A discs should like this one.
