The Wave is the second wide-rimmed, high-speed distance driver released in the MVP line. This disc is moderately stable and described as a longer Inertia. For high-speed throws, the Wave will exhibit long gliding turnovers and hyzer flips. Low-power players will find the Neutron Wave to be overstable, but useable for a variety of different shots.

The Wave is an excellent, slightly understable disc. For a lower arm speed, you may have to throw it on a bit more of a flex line to get a full flight, but it is an excellent entry into distance drivers. With more power, it is great for throwing flat and getting both some solid turns with a reliable fade at the end and it hyzer flips to flat super well. However, in lighter weights, it can be a bit unreliable in a headwind, but this issue is easily solved with a heavier disc. It can take a bit of time to get used to the angles that it flies best on, but when you do figure out how to best use the Wave, it's great.

This thing is amazing.  I've only been playing about a year and was previously throwing about 275ish for my max distance.  Any disc I've tried with a speed above 9 was just too much for me.  I even tried a few lightweight discs, but I was turning and burning them just as often as I was throwing good shots.

Then I picked up a 162g Neutron Wave.  After a few practice rounds tossing it to get comfortable, I played in a tournament yesterday.  The first hole is about 305'.  I normally throw a smooth fairway driver shot about 250' and just lay up for a comfortable par.  This time I decided I'd try to reach the hole.  Lo and behold I crushed it at least 50' past the hole, on a dead straight line with a gentle fade at the end.  I wasn't even mad I had overthrown it because I was so shocked by the distance.

Long story short - it can be a little finicky to control, but this thing BOMBS.  I have not thrown another disc that got me this kind of distance.

I scooped a Wave (174g) after trying out a Catalyst.  The reduced speed was definitely noticeable.  It quickly became my go-to driver.  After it beat in (which took a bit), I found it wasn't difficult to get it to flip up.  I don't have a cannon arm by any means, but I can reliably get my max distance with this disc on any given day.  I liked it so much that I ordered another in neutron plastic at the same weight.

The wave is the first MVP disc I owned and bought it when I was still a staticc driver - no X step. Even at slower arm speeds I was able to get a very straight if not slightly overstable flight, with a reliable fade to go about 300'. Now that my armspeed has greatly improved I can set this disc within 5 feet of my aim point and bomb it about 350-425 depending on nose angle. This disc is not the most workable in my opinion, Im not able to manipulate it to work intricate lines but off the tee on an open or accurate shot it is great. There have been times where I spontaneously decide to play a couple holes and grab the wave and the MVP Atom putter and I have been able to par/birdie every hole reliably with just the driver and putter. I say that because the wave can be manipulated for midrange/approach shots with a decent bit of fade pretty easily.

It's just another fast understable driver. Buying one for my friend who throws these a lot, he is throwing them as hyzer flips about 320-350. With a tailwind I have been able to get them to fly without turning to rolllers, if you have a decent arm speed and good wind you can get them out to 450-475 with good hyzer.

Neutron Wave - A really awesome disc. I really love the feel of this disc. The 11 speed rim is very comfortable and I love how flat all of MVP's discs are. The neutron plastic is really good as well, it is very star like in feel just a little more stiff. It has great grip and durability. I really love the flight of the wave as well. However, the flight is much more stable than the flight numbers suggest. I max out on backhand between 375 and 400 and I can't get much if any turn out of my wave. It also doesn't have much fade. It is very straight flyer with a little bit of fade. I have a star wraith that is a pretty beat in and this wave flies the way I would imagine a newer star wraith would. The disc will definitely be in my bag for a long time.

The wave is an understable distance driver. Low power players will be able to get nice S shape flights by giving it a touch of anny to take advantage of its high glide and turn while high power throwers can exploit its understability to achieve long distance hyzer flips. The wave excels at tailwind drives and wide open drives where you can afford a lot of sideways movement off the tee. The wave can very easily be a bomber disc for any arm.

Just a great straight flying disc. Lands very soft not much skip. Can be thrown fully hyzer and hit like a 2 fade should but, you flatten out the hyzer a bit and it flips up with a nice finish for a long glidey drive. It is like a bigger Insanity, another great straight flying gyro mold. A good go to disc for me when I just want to move forward and know I won't hyzer skip out or turn it over.

I think it was one of my first MVP molds and really got me into the brand. Definitely recommend.

I picked up a Tesla on a whim not too long ago and loved it; ever since my bag has turned more MVP heavy with each new disc I try. Recently started throwing a 166g Wave in Neutron and I absolutely love it. There's something about MVP molds that just make them feel near perfect in my grip; I don't know if it's due to the overmold, but all my MVP molds are super flat which I really enjoy both BH and FH. My BH is a work in progress, but the Wave was the first of my discs I got over 300' in field practice. I wouldn't recommend it for someone brand new, but I would for anyone whose played regularly for at least a few months and wants to dabble in higher speed stuff.

I have been disc golfing for 17 years now, and find the Wave (Cosmic Neutron and Fission) to be more overstable than advertised. I originally had Plasma Wave's, and they seemed less stable, so I feel this is a byproduct of MVPs new injection molding.

Just got this disc 2 weeks ago, it has potential. I can throw this on hyzer and half power and it will still flip over for me. When I rip it higher on a big hyzer I can get it up to flat and the GLIDE is clear, wow does it fly. I think it could potentially beat my teleports on distance if I got the angle and power correct. For my power I think it is not the best fit, I was expecting it to be a longer inertia/insanity but is more understable. Will be picking up a cosmic neutron wave to better suite my needs.

    Updated 02/2022:

I used to own several of these across neutron, cosmic neutron, fission, and plasma. Overall they're a good beginner driver. My biggest problem with them, and why I moved away from them, is that I had no idea what I was getting from disc to disc, even in the same plastics. 1 run would be super flippy, the next would be much more overstable, and occasionally I'd find one perfectly in the middle. Unusual for mvp, who usually has a lot of consistency within a mold. I no longer bother with them, but the good ones are truly great discs.

I think the wave is a great disc for graduating from fairway drivers to distance drivers.  It's more understable than the flight numbers suggest.  I have two waves, one plasma and one neutron.  My neutron wave is considerably more understable than my plasma, despite being newer.  I almost never throw the neutron without some amount of hyzer and/or height to compensate.  My plasma will hold a turn for quite some time, but will eventually flex out. MVP says the wave is slightly more overstable than the Vanish, however I disagree.

It's not a disc I'd reccomend for brand new players, because they likely wouldn't have the arm speed to get the flight out of it.  For someone who is beginning to consistently overpower their fairway drivers, though, I believe this would be a great "step" into the world of distance drivers.

I wanted to try a Gyro disc and picked this one up since it's got the same flight ratings as my usual distance driver (Innova Archon). I found one the same weight and threw them back to back several times over to feel the difference. I couldn't get much of a read because I couldn't help flipping this one over with every throw. I literally couldn't put enough hyzer on it to straighten out. Probably useful to someone but not me. I'll likely wind up giving it away to a friend. Nice plastic though!

This disc does not read like the flight statistics would have you believe.  I do not have high arm speed when it comes to throwing back hands and the first time I ripped this disc it turned over into a roller.  Every time I would throw it with a forehand it would dump out the other way.  I threw this in my closet for a few months and busted it back out a couple weeks ago.  This disc is still as understable as I remembered it but you can throw it on some really cool hyzer-flip lines.  And this disc does have a high glide, very similiar to a Saint.  Highly recommended for people with lower back hand speed looking to get the most out of their shot.

I haven't been a big fan of MVP discs over the years but if I had to recommend one driver for intermediate players and up to try, it would be the Wave. It just feels so fast and easy to throw plus it feels good in the hand. I could get a great s-curve out of it and I know I could get it 20 feet further or so over my other drivers. Great forehand and backhand disc, but I probably wouldn't use it in the wind (unless its a tailwind) if you have more arm speed.

Easily my favourite driver from MVP ever. Can make it hold a low flat line for 300 Feet if released at the right angle. Given top power it will create a beautiful S line or hyzer flips. Can be a little unpredictable in a head wind, so i find myself reaching for the volt in windy conditions instead. Love the rim size and domed feeling in the hand.

Great understable driver from MVP. Hit an ace with my first one and retired it, so I had to grab another. Perfect for Hyzer flip lines. Lighter weights are of course more flippy. I throw a max weight. Pretty flat top. Thin rim for the amount of speed. Great straight flyer for low ceiling tunnel shots. Tailwind driver.

This disc took some getting use to. The numbres when I first got it showed it should be 12/5/-1/3, so something like a destroyer. Upon first throw this thing turned and burned and I realized it was nothing like the numbers I had first seen. I put it in the spare bags and left it there as I liked the stamp I got on mine, but then I eventually wanted to try it again. Once I started with it again I realized it doesn't take that much power to get this thing going and for a MVP disc it is actually glidey. It's not a 12 speed like I first thought nor is is stable or overstable, I would put it more as a understable/stable. If I rip on this thing full power and give a good amount of hyzer (RHBH) this thing flips up quick and goes straight for a good ways and then has a gentle turn that it holds and then powers down nicely just right of center. Which is good for me when I need a tunnel shot or something that I want to go right as I can flick a disc. It doesn't take a lot to get this disc to go far, I can really push this disc out there and starting to use it more and more but have to stay in control with this disc or it just turns and burns. I would more rate it as 11/5.5/-2/1.

Beginners who don't have the arm for the more stable stuff or overstable and want to start trying out max distance drivers could look at this disc and get easy distance till they grow out of it and need something more stable.

It's an alright disc, pretty understable distance driver with the classic MVP rim and double mold.  I throw FH when I want to throw far, and I usually like the feel of distance drivers for FH due to the thick rims.  However, I couldn't really get a good flight out of this disc.  As others have stated, I found it too often faded early or dumped into a cut roller.  I did successfully flip it up a few times and the flight was beautiful, so if you're willing to invest a lot of time in this disc you may be able to produce that consistently.

For me, I would rather throw something more stable unless I need max distance.  In that case, there are many max distance discs that perform better than this one.

This is my new favorite driving disc for windy days, I received the LTD VIP stamp this past week, and received another a few weeks ago because I got the disc the disc confused with the Tesla(155g).  I love the Tesla which is a speed 10 but its light and has some issues on windy days.  Both of my Waves have a weight in the low 170's.  It was windy today, so I left my Tesla in the bag and used the Wave all day.  I was impressed with the results.

I'm new to the sport and often have difficulty getting a disc above speed 10 to turn over much.  I didn't experience the rated turn of the disc but, I was consistently able to get the disc to turn slightly.

The fade was a expected, which for a beginner is a good thing.

What I was really impressed with was that I was consistently able to throw the disc as far as the lighter Tesla with the wind.  I'm looking forward to testing this Disc out in an open field without the wind.

I've as least liked every MVP disc that I've tried, but the Wave was very hard to dial in for me. The distance was very good, sometimes, but often I had a hard time with either overcoooking it and it turning too much for me, or giving it too much hyzer and it fades out early.

I am sure some people who were more patient with it are getting a good long S flight, but I couldn't do that reliably in my limited experiance.

This disc is really good for beginners I've had on for over a month now and i use it when i have trees to get around and i want the disc to go right (rhbh). it has a light fade back but will turn over for medium to stronger players. It wanders right and i would say it's fairly under-stable. the fade is not enough to bring it back to center so it stays right.

I found this to be slower and more undersable than advertised.  But that doesn't mean I don't like it.  The rim is so comfortable that I get some of my cleanest releases with this out of all of my discs.  It is very reliable, giving me what I call a neutral S (as far is it turns, it fades the same amount).

I played forehand exclusively for a year then started to learn back hand.  It was a struggle but after 4 or 5 months of practicing I picked up a 156g Neutron Wave.  This was the first disc I could throw further BH than any other disc I throw FH.  I prefer heavier discs since they work better for my FH shots and this was the first lighter disc I tried.  The glide cannot be overstated.  My BH is fairly weak but the glide on this disc is incredible and it just keeps going.  I highly recommend this disc to new or intermediate players learning to back hand.

This has been my go-to distance driver for quite awhile now.  Throw it flat and it'll give you a perfect S for great distance.  Because it's pretty understable you have to be careful not to throw it on an anny because it won't come back until very late, if at all.  I like to throw it flat or on a bit of a hyzer with a lot of juice for max distance.

This is my go to disc for long distance. I can only use it in open fields thought because this things flips like no other. I throw it with a slight hyper and it flips up immediately, then turns, flys to about 390' and dump fades. It can also be hyper flipped so that it flys laser straight. I don't have the arm speed to throw this disc consistently.   I mainly throw it in field practice but sometimes i break it out on a good day. I've had it a long time so I've thrown it plenty, and when I get a good throw it has a great high speed turn and fade.  When I get a good throw and release it lands right where I'm aiming.  I like to use it on holes with guarded baskets from a straight fairway or fairways with trees in the middle.  Throw right at the tree and the turn of the disc will take it around your obstacle and then fade into the target.

If you are a good forehand thrower and can work the finesse side of understable discs, the wave is a great disc to forehand.  It has a great glide and  the gyro that makes it difficult to get the rated turn on mvp discs starts to show up on a flick.  MVP discs seem in general to fly more to the numbers on forehand throws so don't hesitate to give it a shot.

For months the Neutron wave was my favorite driver.  I owned a 156g and a 166g disc.  Both are durable but within the first couple of weeks my 156g disc had a bug chunk gouged out of it when I hit a tree.  As I threw these discs more they became more and more understable.  My form is something I am working on so take my comments with a grain of salt.  My max distance throws at the moment are 360'-370' with my further flying discs which at the moment is typically a Star Tern (167g, 171g, 175g), a 400G D3 (158g, 163g), and a Star Boss (149g, 155g).  Unfortunately, I cannot seem to get the same distance out of my Wave as I do my other discs due to how understable the disc is.  Maybe it's just the one disc that I have but the 156g disc was very touchy as well.  When I first got both discs I would get mild turn out of them (which at the time I probably only have maybe 320' of power if that).  I've since sold the 156g Wave but presently I can get the 166g disc out near the mid 350' range but not consistently which I feel is due to how understable the disc is.  I like this disc, but I much prefer the discs mentioned above as I feel those discs are more consistent and easier to control (at least for me).

Maybe I just wasn't throwing it hard enough, but for me, the Wave was a very neutral flying disc. For a long time, people assumed that MVP discs would all be fairly neutral due to the Gyro effect. While that has proven to be untrue, the Wave is pretty much a "point and shoot" distance driver, which is a pretty darn good thing.

Thrown flat, and with enough power to utilize it's speed, the Wave will turn slightly and then fade slightly, ending right on line with your release point. I couldn't get to hole either a spike hyzer or a sweeping hyzer; rather it would flip to flat, fly straight for awhile and then fade fairly heavily. I also struggled with getting it to hold a true anhyzer angle. I never tried to sidearm the Wave.

A good disc that is very straight, if you like MVP and Axiom, you'll really want to catch the Wave! (lame pun very much intended)

The Wave is an Inertia with a wider rim. That's the only physical difference between the two molds that the eyes can see. The wider rim makes it faster and longer than the Inertia, but not by much. They have almost identical flight characteristics when thrown side-by-side in normal conditions, with the Wave getting an extra 10-20 feet.

The major difference, at least for me, is that the Wave doesn't get knocked around by wind as much. In low or moderate winds, the Wave handles its business as usual. The Inertia can get knocked down by wind once it starts its turn, if not given enough air under it and room to work. I don't throw understable molds in strong winds, so can't give any advice on how the Wave reacts to a steady head wind; probably not well.

I don't use the Wave for turnover shots very often, but it's capable of holding a long turnover with proper trajectory. I primarily use the Wave as a max distance driver with hyzer flip bombs. It also excels on long tunnel shots when hyzer flipped and thrown low. Thrown on a laser about chest high, it barely gets any turn and gently fades to center as it slows down. Put some air under it, and it'll give you the flight shown in the above graphic. An average drive for me falls in the 350' range, so bigger arms will likely find the Wave to be more understable than this review states.

This review was for a Neutron Wave, but I liked it so much that a Proton Wave eventually made it in the bag. The Proton is taking longer to beat in, but it's definitely worth the time and effort. The Proton is straighter, better into the wind, and maybe a tad longer once you knock the factory stiffness out of it.

Anyone looking for a longer Inertia would really like the Wave. If you find the Inertia to be too understable, get a Proton Wave in a slightly heavier weight. Proton discs seem to be a gift from above. They take so long to show any damage, it's ridiculous. Buy two and you're set for five lifetimes!

My noodle arm was not yet up to speed to throw this thing effeciently, but recently pulled it out and have had great succes. I'm not sure what it is about MVP disc, but these are the only disc above a 9 speed that I can consistanly control. The wave is no exception, I actually have hit +350 feet twice with this disc. When thrown flat it rockets out of the hand and will kick into a slow turn which it will carry out over 3/4 of the flight before kicking into a gentle penetrating fade.I have even used it as a turnover disc into a headwind with succes. This disc has allowed me to birdie holes previously out of reach. Big arms would probably overpower it, but for slower arms it is a great disc.

This disc is just wonderful.  Throw it flat and it will be a rocket with a tiny right to left flight.  Just like most discs the higher you throw it the harder left it finishes but on a flat line it's almost a -1 1.5 I feel.  If I had to pick 1 disc I had to use for every shot besides a mid range I would have to pick this since it's not hard to turn it a bit to tweak your shot.  So not hard to throw an anhyzer or a hyzer with it.

It's a very short story:  The Wave MUST be in your bag.  If you like the Insanity or Inertia, try this disc.  I can almost guarantee you'll like them better.  Yes, the Wave is a higher speed, but you won't regret it.  Huge distance and very controllable.

Got my pre-ordered Wave from Infinite Discs today.  Great service as usual from Infinite Discs, the Wave looks good and is a svelte 153 grams.  I took it out on a good workout on the course.  For the record, I *am* a "beginner", a noodle-armed slow thrower that is ecstatic to get 300 feet on a downhill throw.  I thought the Wave would be my more overstable high-speed driver in my MVP bag.

Wow, is this thing freaky understable!  Some of it may be the light weight, but my first throw on a downhill turned right and kept on going right... went a long way, but wayyyy right.  So I began seriously hyzer-flipping the disc, much more hyzer-flip than I give my Mamba, and for the most part it did better.  When I get it right, the Wave goes a lonnnnggg way;  I got record (for me) distances on a downhill throw and cleared the crest of an uphill that I'd never cleared before.

(Edited to add):  got a 173g Neutron Wave.  It is understable but not as much as the 153g Wave.  Both are excellent for long distance, and one of the two is good for just about any long drive that I need.  The Wave is a huge home run for MVP!

Not recommended for power throwers. I would number this as 12, 5, -3, 2. Max weight and thrown on a large hiezer it still flipped up and went hard right. Would be great for an intermediate player or beginner
