This is and will always be my go to disc for straight shots. It also holds any hyzer and anhyzer lines you put on it. Unfortuneately, MVP chose to stop making these, so buy them up while they're still available!!

I find this to be a great get around disc. It has flip but also has fade to pull it back out. I play a lot of wooded courses and works well to get around those pesky trees in the fairway.

I do find it hard to control for sidearm as it flips quickly with the torque.

The MVP Axis was the first disc I ever got an in round ace with with the exception of thowing multiple drives off the tee. This is the first disc that ever hit and stuck on the first thow on a hole for me and I will always love it for that reason. The exact disc I aced with was an Eclipse Axis but I have recently added a Proton Axis to my bag to try and fill my Mid-Range gaps. I have never been much of a Mid thrower as I feel I can be more accurate and get more distance by throwing a putter. Really trying to get my Mid game back so adding an Axis to the bag was an obvious choice. If you are looking for something to finish straight, this is the disc for you! For higher arm players, it may turn some, but it will get that soft fade back to straight. For lower arm players, it will more than likely go dead straight with a slight fade at the end. Very controllable Mid and I am happy to say it is back in my bag.

This disc is the absolutely perfect midrange in my opinion. Straight as an arrow with a tiny bit of high speed turn and fade. I think it actually has a bit more glide than advertised, probably closer to 6, because this thing will sail forever if thrown nice and flat. I bought this disc to compliment my Vector and am very pleased.

Very easy to throw straight with slight fade. I haven't been able to get it to flex out so it's sort of a one trick pony, but great for wooded shots. My go to mid if I don't know what to throw in a situation.

178 Proton seems heavier than my 180 Roc and maddeningly inconsistent. I throw what what on one hole is a beautiful anhyzer flex shot, the next hole it turns and burns. I throw it straight, it either dies early because the glide isn't there or it fades like a new Roc and sails past the basket. My form may be off, but this disc doesn't inspire confidence or mask poor form with reliable flight characteristics.

I am writing this review from my own respective. I am a fairly new player who can throw my mids around 210 feet reliably.

    Pros:

    • Fairly straight. Although not nearly as straight as the axiom alias or innova atlas
    • Like all MVP discs, looks really good (especially in proton purple)
    • Decent glide. But nothing like the MVP Tangent.

    Cons:

    • Larger bead which doesn't feel good in my hand. Reminds me of a Buzz which I also don't like.
    • I seemed to griplock this disc a lot (I think it is because of the uncomfortable feel in the hand)
    • I couldn't work this disc. Putting it on an anhyzer line made it turn and burn. Probably a form issue but I can anhyzer other discs like the MVP tangent and Axiom alias.

Got this disc a few months back and decided to throw it in the bag. This thing has become one of my favorite midranges. As you have gathered from other reviews this disc is amazing when it comes to holding a line. For me this is my primary "strait shot" disc. Throw this at about 80% and it will fly straighter than pretty much anything else out there, then hit the breaks when it lands. One of the best discs to have when a strait narrow gap is what you need to hit. I may be partial to it due to getting ace number two with it! Great tool to keep in the bag, get one!

I have other mids in my bag, I just don't use em. Super straight flight, this is my go to mid.

The axis replaced nearly every mid I've owned up until the point that I picked one up. I love a buzzz but had always found them to be a bit inconsistent and this disc has always been perfectly capable of flying straigh and far, holding a beautiful anyhyzer and released with enough hyzer that it acts much like a seasoned Roc.

It took a long while for me to buy one but I'm glad did every time I throw it.

I just bought this disc this summer and I am very happy I did so.  First off, this is one of the coolest looking discs I've ever owned.  The clear flight plate and the black rim with the mid range mold looks really futuristic and unique.  Secondly, it fits great in my small hands and doesn't seem too thick.  Flight-wise, this disc was more overstable than I thought it would be but once I figured that out, I learned how to through it appropriately.  If I rip this disc a little harder than my other mid ranges (forehand or backhand) it will go quite straight and fade off at the end.  The grip of this disc really helps my release and makes it easier to throw the disc straight, anhyzer, and hyzer.  If you want a midrange that feels good in your hand, and is stable to slightly overstable, than this is a great fit for you.

Favorite midrage disc I've found so far. I use a 175g Eclipse plastic. This disc just feels perfect. I got my first Ace with this guy. Only downside is I keep losing these in the leaves.

The 176 Proton Axis is just... wow. It's like pulling a perfectly seasoned max-weight Roc outta the box. So far, I'm completely impressed. Just a consistent flyer. If I max out the throw, it'll hang a bit further right but never flip - and always comes back with a bit of left fade. Feels fantastic in my hand and I love that mid-range glide. I was able to throw it about 280-290' dead straight with just a mellow fade at the end. I had lost my max weight Roc when I ordered the Axis, then some kind soul found it and I was able to get it back... with a big old chunk of plastic missing where a mower had apparently run it over. I wanted something that could take it's place and I truly believe this is a nice option. Finally I want to describe how it handles anhyzer. With a solid snap you can turn it over and get a long amazing glide, overpower it a bit with a flatter release and it's not going to burn you... it just takes it. Great disc, faster hand speeds will appreciate a bit more weight (176+) - smaller arms will like the lighter weights.

I have a 178 Proton axis, and during the first full round with it I got my first ace! So needless to say I love these discs. These fly very true to the angle of release. Thrown with hyzer they ride the angle, flat and they go straight all the way to the ground, and anhyzer holds the line. This is an excellent workhorse midrange.

I have a 178 Proton Axis. When I first got this disc, I wasn't throwing it correctly because I was giving it too much hyzer and not trusting it on a full out shot. However, once I started trusting this disc, it flew amazingly straight and far. The Axis is a terrific midrange disc. It really holds lines beautifully. Go out and buy an Axis!

I think I've found my permanent midrange discs. MVP is the way to go. Forget Buzzz's and Roc's, The Axis is a straight true flyer, and the Vector is there when you need some overstability. I can't believe how little end of flight fade there is with the Axis. It's amazing for throwing straight at the target.

My midrange and approach shots are money ever since I started using MVP. I might say that I'll be a MVP if I keep using these discs. Once my Volt comes in the mail, this brand might be used for everything but my long distance drives. The only con I see with MVP discs is that they do get pretty slippery when wet from the snow. Nothing a good towel can't handle, but a slight annoyance.

The Axis/Vector is like MVP's Buzzz/Wasp combo, except that in a lot of ways the MVP is the way to go. It may just be me, but the Axis for me is a better driving disc on shorter holes than the Buzzz because it seems to maintain its flight longer and behaves better in cross-winds than the Buzzz, even at the same weights. It also resists rolling and skipping more than the Buzzz, and is my go-to disc on approaches to baskets in slick Circles. Great downwind and can tolerate a mild headwind pretty well too.
