Started playing disc golf with a flat top firebird from around 2012. Strictly threw forehand since I was too stubborn to try learn backhand. After unfortunately losing that firebird, I decided to try to be "different" and throw a firebird clone from another company. Greatest decision I've made. The Opto Pioneer feels great in my hand. I bag a flat top one that has been beaten into a straight flyer that I can even turn over for some throws. I throw a newer Opto Pioneer for my forehands since I can always trust it'll come out of any angle I put it on. This disc absolutely handles headwinds with ease on a backhand throw too. Grab yourself a pioneer, you won't regret it.

I'm about a year in to the sport, and I found this in a river, called the number and the guy said "I can't throw it for ****", so you can keep it.  I said thanks!  Started throwing it on a backhand and it would just bomb out/hyzer immediately, so I didn't use it until this year I was messing around and trying to learn a forehand.  used this disc a few times and wow. It's my go to forehand, I torque the bejesus outta this thing and it just flips up rides a ways and then hyzers out.  Love the flat top of it, cuts through head winds well, and is a stellar forehand disc in my bag.

Minus 1 star for the horrible experience of backhanding this one. Which is likely my fault for bad form, but still a drawback.  If you need an overstable mid for forehand shots, this thing is money!

All the reviews you've read about this being overstable are true. I have a champion Firebird and it flies very similarly, but doesn't fade quite as hard. It has a very flat top and I've found it to be very useful on shorter shots that I need to curve twice before reaching the green. I felt like the plastic out of the factory was a lot less grippy than after it got beat in a little more. I still rarely pull this out of the bag, because it's more situational for me, but when I need it it does the job. Definitely not a disc I pull out when looking for distance as it has very low glide, but it can fight wind. If a Firebird is 4 fade then this one should be slightly less than that.

I got this disc as a mystery disc. My overstable fairway driver has been the Dynamic Discs Felon so I wasn't sure if I would find a place for this in my bag. The Pioneer does seem similar to my Felon but after some filed work, the Pioneer goes a little bit further on flat throws. For an overstable disc it doesn't seem to fight out of anhyzer but has a dependable fade when thrown flat and dumps hard when on slight hyzer. Nothing surprising but a great disc.

ATTENTION anyone Overhand/Pancake/whatever you call it throwers

First review but I've been throwing right around 14 years. I've been searching far and wide for a modern equivalent of the now impossible to find Flat top INNOVA Firebirds for a few years now SPECIFICALLY for over hand throws. My CE plastics wore bad enough that I put my thumb through them and I tragically left my 11x Climo on a course around New Years Day and I've been DESPERATE to find a replacement without breaking the bank. I've been through quite a few experiments from Westside Ahti's to MVP Fireball's but the Pioneer is the First disc that flips EXACTLY like a Flat Top Firebird on Over hand Pancake shots. When "Pitched" like a four seam fast ball, it flips at just the right speed at the right height to eighty flip over quick enough to flip and land straight in front of where thrown or when thrown lower get that top side down skip to sneak around tough corners. This has been a monumental discovery for me and I needed to get the word out for OVERHAND throwers.

I received this disc as a mystery disc with my last order. I wasn't really sure where this disc would fit into my bag when I got it. I bag a slightly understable champ Eagle and a newish slightly more OS champ Eagle. I thought those discs had my fairway game covered. Nope. This disc flies dead straight when thrown flat and then fades nicely after about 250ish ft. It holds a nice hyzer. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star is because I have not quite figured out the annhyzer flex shot. When I put anny angle on it, it turns a bit too much and does not have enough glide to fight out.

    Pros:

    Dead straight

    Reliable fade

    Feels good in hand

    Cons:

    A bit touchy with annhyzer

Pioneer is for strong arms. Like any disc intended for experienced strong players, newbies with weak arms cannot accurately rate it. This disc needs a powerful arm launching it.

Definitely not for new players. The listed glide of 3 tells you all you need to know. For a weaker arm, this will get out to about 140-150 ft then act like it hit an invisible tree. You'll get some fade, but mostly it will fall like it hit a wall. It actually feels like it is pushing me aside as I hurl it! I

Treat it like a Spartan Shield... not everybody can handle it.

The pioneer is your typical low-glide, overstable 9 speed fairway driver.  It's extremely flat and feels great for forehand grips.  It seems to be a tiny bit less overstable than advertised, but still does everything you need it to do.  The opto plastic is durable and slightly grippier than other premium durable plastics.  Overall a fantastic disc and a great addition to the latitude64 lineup.

    Pros:

    - Board flat

    - Extremely Firebird-ish shape

    Cons:

    - Not quite Firebird overstability

    - Plastic isn't quite as durable as Champion

    Summary:

The Pioneer feels like a FB and desperately wants to be one. It is a good clone but not quite a great one. I still feel like Trilogy cannot design a mold that fights wind & perfoms as well as a Firebird.

If you are a die hard Trilogy fan, the Pioneer can fill the FB slot. But if you're open to a mixed bag...stick to the FB.

Opto First Run. THIS DISC IS A MEAT HOOK!!! Woah baby is this disc overstable. Think the most overstable DD Felon or Innova Firebird you've ever thrown. I love it for power forehand drives as it just begs for power rips; it'll also fight through wind and even anhyzer releases like nobody's business. I would give this disc another shot with a newer run to see if it is still extremely overstable, but I have a few Felons in my bag and the Pioneer would have to do something special to knock one of them out.

This will remind you of a Lucid Felon, but I find it more comfortable in the hand. I'm not sure I buy that the fade is 4.

The Pioneer is a new option for that overstable utility fairway mold. It's flight is most similar to that 12x Firebird which fades right out of your hand. If you're looking for more of a workhorse fairway like a Sexton Firebird or a Felon, you're going to have to beat the Pioneer in a little. The Opto plastic feels great in the hand, but it isn't the most durable translucent type of plastic. The mold is terrific for forehands, but a little shallow for backhands. Once again, there are other similar molds that you could try before this one.

The Latitude 64° Pioneer, is a crazy overstable fairway driver! If you are looking for something to laugh in the face of wind and prove the fact that it is Grade A beef, this is exactly the disc you need. Don't get this thing expecting to get a lot of glide with a soft fade at the end, cause that is not what this disc is made for. This is more of the hook and skip type disc. It's going to come out of your hand very fast and almost instantly start showing you what it is made for... overstability. If you play a lot of technical wooded courses, this is a great disc for you as you could use it to hook around stuff quick. As for the profile, it feels good in my smaller hands and has a very flat top... which I love. With all this being said, if you are a beginner, you may want to stay away from this disc for quite some time because this thing is strong! If you want to see this disc being thrown, check out my crew's full review of this disc here...

There has been a lot of hype around this disc due to Wysocki having it on the side of his van during the 2018 season. It was advertised as a Felon type disc that was a bit more over-stable for Wysocki’s power forehand. We all know that Ricki went a different direction , but Latitude decided to move forward with the disc as a standard part of there line up. So I was interested to test this disc. I have to say they hit it out of the park!! It is just what they had hoped for a more over-stable Felon in the Latitude line of discs. I tested it with wind and no wind and it performed very well. It held the Hyzer line and consistently finished hard with a big skip. One thing I have noticed as a former trilogy thrower that some of the over-stable molds would flex but would get stuck on the turning angle and then hook up late. This was not the case, this disc will flex very quick and even when I tried to hold it over it would flex quicker than I was used to. I would give this disc an A rating.

Feedback from my testing group of 700-1000 rated players found that this was a great over-stable utility disc for all levels of skill and arm speeds.

Overall I believe that this will be a popular disc in 2019 and I could see it making into my bag.

175g first run Opto Pioneer. Flies similar to a Lucid Felon. I bought 3 first runs and they all have a very flat top. The disc feels great in the hand. I use it primarily for forehand shots. I always carry either a Felon, Firebird, Ahti, or Enemy in this slot, and now currently have the Pioneer in the same slot.

I haven't thrown it much backhand yet, but I can't imagine it being much different than the aforementioned Felon.

Maybe i just need more time with it, but it seems like there wasn't really a huge need for this within the trilogy family. That said, it definitely was a gap in the latitude lineup.
