The Culverin is quickly becoming one of my favorite discs to throw.  When I picked this up at Play It Again Sports, I expected it to be more of a super overstable Firebird style disc.  What it actually ended up being is much more of a versatile, every hole type of distance driver than a get of of trouble utility disc.  For an overstable disc, the Culverin has great glide.  Combined with its slight bit of turn (which seems to be pretty accurately listed at -0.5), this disc will flat out carry when thrown flat or with a bit of anhyzer.

The Culverin is extremely versatile.  It is great for big hyzers, and can flip to flat and glide before returning to its hyzer.  Release flat, it will turn over just slightly and give a long flight with a reliable fade.  This is also great for anhyzer flex shots, which can lead to some great distance.  My Culverin is a mid 170s in Gold line plastic, and even though I max out around 325 feet, I'm able to get great flights out of this disc.  It's a disc I reach for over and over again.

If you don't feel like you're ready for a Sexton Firebird quite yet, the Culverin seems like it could scratch that same sort of itch, maybe with just a touch more turn and a touch less fade, which can make it a little more forgiving than a Firebird.  Either way, this is an incredibly versatile and usable disc that I'd recommend to anyone but a true beginner.

good control driving disc for intermediate players.  predictable fade at end of flight, not too flippy but with adequate glide.

One of my favorite control drivers of all time! Really versatile as a backhand driver. The rim shape feels really full in the hand and almost beefy, but it is one of the most workable discs in the control driver class. Its one of those discs that you reach for when you aren't sure what disc to throw, because you know that it will fly consistently and it can accomplish almost any flight shape. Don't be deceived by the label of "control driver" because this thing can bomb in the open field. It can easily reach 350 feet on a straight hyzer line with no turn. As it beats in this disc starts to turn slightly when you put power on it, but always finishes with authority to the left for right handed players. I love my throwing thunderbirds more than anything else in my bag, and this is the only disc to have ever rivaled the accuracy and versatility of my thunderbirds. Only thing the culverin doesn't do as well is forehand shots. In my opinion the culverin glides too much for forehands, causing it to lift to much coming out of the hand. Would highly recommend if you don't like the feel of thunderbirds, but want something that flies like one!

Absolutely one of my favorite discs. My go-to for anything 250-400 ft

Pros: Feels great - Super versatile - Handles power - Tons of glide - Reliable in wind (up to 15mph)

Cons: Doesn't come in recycled plastic - Is not forgiving for poor form

The culverin is everything that I wanted the saint pro to be. It is a fantastic complement to my escapes and my firebirds. I wanted something that could fit right between these two discs and I really thought that the saint pro would be great for that based on its numbers, but all i could get it to do was be less exciting escape. But this isn't a review for that disc.

The culverin is great in that it feels nice in the hand, it has a similar rim to that of the firebird, but its flight is much longer and doesn't have the same amount of fade. It still has a good reliable fade that makes it ideal for a lot of shots I encounter, but it doesn't have so much I worry about huge skips sending it away from my landing zone.

The disc is great for both forehand and backhand shots, and while I have yet to try it I feel like this disc will be great for forehand rollers that I want more distance with than I get out of the escape.

I currently bag 2 gold line max weight Culverns, they are my main work horses. Not so overstable that you could open up a butcher shop but overstable enough to fight turning left and windy conditions. I use this for both forehand and backhand, this disc has great control from both releases

This disc goes long and straight with a very predictable fade. This disc has incredible glide to get down the fairway. This disc is overstable so you will have to aim to a point outside of where you want to be in order to end up where you want to be. Handled in the wind fairly well. Thrown flat it goes very straight for a long time then will fade off. Thrown on a hyzer it will hold the line with lots of fade at the end. Very useful disc in that you can be very accurate with your throws.
