Love the Wombat for hyzer-flip to turnover shots. It's like throwing a forehand with your backhand when you need that mild left to right turn. I've had two of these--one in star and the other in Halo Star, which is currently in the bag. My current one is a little flippier than the original one I had, but still controllable for the speed I throw. The Wombat can also be nice when you're needing to take some speed off, since you don't need to worry about any fade.

This disc is a great understable compliment to the Roc3. All the ones I have owned are flat. The rim has a bead on it just like the roc3. I love releasing the wombat3 on a hyzer and having it flip up to flat. When released flat it will keep turning throughout its flight. This disc does not like wind, but is great for shaping lines through the woods.

I was looking for a controllable mid that can hold anhyzer lines for those long sweeping shots. I grabbed a few candidates, but this disc was the happiest surprise of the bunch. This thing flips flat and flies straight, and it is faster than it looks. If you get on it, you can get it to turn a bit, but the disc turns to a point, then holds the line. If you want a straight disc that will land where you are aiming without flaring out, consider this one. It has found a spot in my bag to compliment my wasps and trust.

The wombat3 is very similar in my opinion to the mako3 just more under stable. If you are looking for something that will hold more an-hisser or when released flat will gradually turn right then this is the perfect disc to add to your bag. You can always trust the right finish of this disc when throwing something that is more under stable. This mid range can even be thrown for some pretty sweet rollers or especially for some nice hisser flip up shots down a narrow fairway like in the woods. It definitely shines in places as such or even long gradual down slope holes that you definitely don't want finishing left and overshooting. If you are missing that right turning mid range when throwing right hand back hand then this disc is the next disc you should be looking forward to trying out next time you hit the fairways. I guarantee it will be in your bag after one round.

This disc is a great learner disc for beginners, though maybe not the easiest disc for beginners. Its got a ton of glide, and a little US. Basically it will really force beginners to control their shot. If you juice it, round, or release late the shot will fly pretty hard right. Its very responsive, so to much of anything and it will go a little wild. When you master it though it will fly nice and straight with a mild right glide. This makes it great for the woods, or longer mid range turnover shots.

If you want the best of this mold get the GG Signature ones, star ones made at the same time as the GG's, or champion plastic.

Very beginner friendly. The wombat3 has been a huge confidence booster for me as I learn to hit lines on wooded courses.  The wombat3 has so much turn that it doesn't need much power to start going to the right, and allows the player a lot more freedom to concentrate on the line and angles rather than making sure that you torque a disc hard enough to start turning.

Newer player here. The Wombat 3 was one of my first mids. A beginner will be happy with the flight that this disc can provide. Lots of glide will keep your throw in the air for a long time. You can get a baby s turn out of this disc if you can throw it hard or on a slight anhyzer angle. The bead is interesting to me as It's the only mid that in my bag that has a bead, it's not a giant one, but it's noticeable. Overall, you can get a good consistent flight out of this disc. It's a pretty straight flyer. I love throwing it up hills as the high glide gives me confidence to get my disc up without accidently throwing nose up.

    171 grams, Star plastic.

This is the ideal disc for beginners looking to put some distance on their game while maintaining control. Beginners that are working their way up from putters to drivers (how I would recommend all players get into disc golf, especially Ultimate players) can count on the Wombat3 to be a constructive, reliable step in their ramp up.

For Intermediate/Advanced players, this disc is ideal for turnovers, hyzerflip-to-turn shots and crucially for low ceiling approach shots. I prefer using R-Pro Darts of various seasonings for all approach shots <275-300 feet. However, the dart falls out of the sky, it is not meant for a laser beam type approach. Enter the ultra-glidey Wombat3. It will float up to the basket on many different lines at different speeds. Fantastic utility disc.

Review of 180g brand new Star Wombat3. I was looking for this disc to do one thing for me: replace my beloved DX XD (the old mold, no longer made) for long BH anny turnovers. FWIW, I throw a distance driver about 315', so not super powerful, but not a noob.

This disc is naturally pretty understable. If thrown flat and hard BH, it will flip, so there is really no reason to throw it anny unless you need some ridiculous curve. I could get some good flights out of it, but it is really inconsistent and sensitive. If I don't get exactly the right combination of power, angle, wind, and height, it can be really unpredictable. If you force it too anny, you're also running the risk of a roller. When just using the disc's natural understable flip, it does have just a touch of fade that will prevent rollers, but if I miss the perfect release angle, a roller is a possibility.

When thrown with a sharp hyzer angle and a lot of power, it will flip up to flat and go pretty straight with minimal fade. That said, I can throw a DX Roc or an Emac Truth more reliably for the same distance, so this doesn't add anything to my bag.

Regarding being touchy, sometimes I will throw a slightly understable disc into a light headwind to get a flip to the right (RHBH). I simply could not figure out any release angle or speed that would make this disc do anything worthwhile going upwind.

As for rating a disc with a glide of 6, that's making a statement. I didn't feel like it really goes any further than a DX Roc or an Emac Truth. Honestly, because this thing turns over so easily, I found myself having to aim higher just to keep it in the air, which is what I have to do with my putters. I would say this has good glide, but I was expecting a glide 6 rating to be more.

As for forehand, I'm not a strong FH thrower, but I can get discs out to 240ish feet. This thing just turns into an instant roller for me on the FH.

If you're a new player, maybe throwing 225' max, this might make a really nice disc. Honestly, though, I think it's so touchy and won't be a disc you can grow into, that I would look elsewhere. Something like a Champion Panther would be a much better starting midrange for a new player.

This has been one of my favorite discs to have. Doesnt require a lot of power and this thing just floats in the air. Like everyone else has said this thing is straight. This is my go to for any tunnel shot. This is a great disc to learn how to control your power. Throw her too hard and she will want to flip or just go on a anhyzer angle and never come back. Give it the perfect release with about a 50-80% of power and the disc will do all the work while you get to sit back and work its magic. This is what helped me get back into playing and made the transiton so easy for me. I like to throw it on a nice and low throw and just see the thing fly. This disc is also really good for hyzering out if you need something to cut left with enough air underneath the disc.

A super straight flier, with excellent glide. I filtered through a ton of discs with similar flight numbers, trying to find one with torque resistance that could land where I pointed. Tried the Nova (too deep), Mako (felt wierd, dropped too quickly), Mako3 (inconsistent), Fuse and original Wombat (both have more glide, but domey and odd grips), Tomahawk (more stable than advertised). At first I didn't like how it felt in my hand. The edge is a bit sharp and takes getting used to, but after seeing it fly when I'd released it correctly, I decided to keep using it and am glad I did.

Positives is that the disc feels great in the hand. However I thought the glide was much lower then the 6. I would rate the glide a 4. I think the glide rating was total nonsense. I think that is the thing with these VTech designs is while they are straighter they lack the glide of others like a Roc or Shark (especially a beatin in one which I like more).

Plastic was nice. Feel was good. I honestly have not thrown a really great understable midrange. Closest is a Fuse Opto-X or stiff max weight Opto. Comets fly nice as well but the feel is bad.

    The Wombat3 is not forgiving.

I tried out the Wombat3 when I was trying to find a new straight midrange. The zero fade looked promising, but the problem is the resistance to off access torque. This disc will hold whatever line you put it on... forever. That means if your angle is ever so slightly off, this disc isn't going where you were aiming.

The bead makes this a bad option for sidearm as well. While I appreciate the utility of a Wombat3, it's not the midrange for me.

I wanted to love this disc so much. And I do enjoy it, but for me it is a turnover shot disc. I could not get this thing to hyzer flip to save me. I like this disc better in champion plastic but the star isn’t bad. I personally don’t love the way it feels in my hand either. It’s a solid disc but in my experience, I’ve thrown 3 different wombats and they all turned way too much.

The Wombat3 has an extreme amount of glide and a healthy bit of turn, making it a good disc for flat, right turning shots or big air shots that you want to keep turning to the right the entire flight. While it is understable and will turn hard, it tends to hold air under the disc and resists burning out into a roller. I would highly recommend this disc to someone just learning the game as it'll get easy distance without promoting bad form. It could also be used by a more experienced golfer for hard turning shots due to the glide.

Throw this thing soft, softer than you think, and it will work wonders! I had this disc fly very far some some very soft throws. When thrown with too much power/torque, it'll just flip over and burn. This makes the Wombat3 a VERY good disc for newer players, as they will achieve max distance for a midrange!

When thrown with the right power, the Wombat3 will pop up and glide for days! I'm not kidding, I over threw a lot of upshots and then decided just to drive with it. It's a great workable disc that'll hold many lines for 250+ feet when thrown gently.

Now as much as I do like this disc for what it does, I do struggle sometimes powering down enough to finesse the disc where it needs to go, so I might not end up bagging this- but sticking with the Vcobra, another understable mid that can handle more torque.

OK, just to lead off, I struggled at first with the Wombat3 because I tend to want to power-throw discs when I'm first testing them out. This is NOT a disc you want to throw with any power. The Wombat3, once you figure out that it is a finesse disc, is very easy to control. When thrown with power, it was far too understable or me. Throwing RHBH, I found it pulling hard right every time. After that, I backed off and had much more success with the disc.

If you throw this disc on a slight hyzer release, it pops up and flighs dead straight every time. If I throw it on a higher anhyzer line, it turns right and glides out for a great right-hand turn. That would be my primary use for the Wombat3.

I'm not accustomed to beaded mid-ranges, so it takes a little adjustment for me because I don't like feeling a bead with my grip. I found that the bead sometimes messed up my release so the disc came off late in my throw motion.

I think that this disc would make a great mid-range, easily-to-throw, shot-shaping disc for new players. It would be very forgiving for new players who have a slow throwing speed and who tend to release with their wrist cocked in a hyzer position. I give it a solid recommendation in that case. For more experienced players, this will be a "power-down" finesse disc for precision shots outside your max putting range. I will default to non-beaded mids, personally.

I tried a beautiful orange Proto Star Wombat at 176g. The flight of the Wombat 3 is amazing. If you're looking for a golf disc with an Ultimate Frisbee like flight then you've got to try the Wombat3. This disc glides really well and has almost no low speed fade at all.  It is perfect for straight tunnel shots that you want to fly and end flying straight. The Wombat3 holds a line fairly well, but likes to flatten out a little at the end of the flight. Nevertheless, this is an excellent disc for Anhyzer shots and slow turn glidey hyzer shots. It's flight is almost like a faster Nova.

The Wombat3 is definitely a finesse disc. If you overpower it too much it will turn over and won't produce good results. I would say that it is slightly more resistent to high speed turn over than the original Wombat or the Foxbat.

If you're looking for a super straight glidey midrange that won't fade out on you at the end of the flight, try the Wombat3.
