I love this disc! If you need to get around a corner this is the disc for it. It's extremely consistent with both forehand and backhand throws.

I used to use this disc primarily for my forehands when I could only throw them 100ft, and sometimes backhands that went dead straight for 150ft. But now after 5 years after throwing it I'm able to throw higher speed discs farther and more accurate

I am going to politely disagree with the posts that say this disc is beginner friendly. The Viper is a super specialty disc that should really only be used as an escape platform, super flex hyzer, or headwind dogleg disc.  The factory statistics are on point once again. There is a weird trend I have observed, players opting out of having specialty discs. Listen, you don't need them often, but when they do, they are generally less beaten in then most of your bag and are an absolute lifesaver when you need that niche-specialization. On another note, I am a bit strange because at least in my eyes, I include speed 6 at midrange and speed 10 as a fairway driver. With how much fade this thing has, you will need the proper technique to really get the best out of this particular mold. Actually, and this is probably the first tip I've included with any disc, really focus on your snap release if you want a winding flex shot. If you are releasing it slower, really compensate for that fade. I hope you all enjoy the mold like I have.

PROS: The ORIGINAL specialty disc. A brave step forward into the world of radical flight statistics since the PDGA called it Gucci on my dad's birthday in '91.

CONS: The ORIGINAL specialty disc. I wrote this again because it will not behave like any other disc in your bag; just have some common sense with it.

I truly love this disc. It was one of the first I ever purchased when my teenage sons and I first started playing 16 years ago. I have a beat in 176 g that was in my first group that I can make fly straight as an arrow when thrown hard, and then turn around and throw a big looping hyper shot around obstacles. I took it out of my bag for a while to try other fairway and control drivers, but keep returning to it for that awesome left turn that is needed but nothing else can provide. I'm sure that I might try this in other plastics, but , hey , DX is working and there's no need to mess with a good thing. It is somewhat beginner friendly as it is not really affected by the wind, and is very forgiving on bad form. It also stands up well to those frustration/ angry/ throws that go with learning this sport.

As far as flight ratings go, it is true to the factory ratings except I would rate the turn at 4 instead of 5; at least for my arm and style.

This was my very first discs I've ever used. I've been playing for four years and it was in my bag all the way up until last year because if I needed a great upshot then it was always there for me. It is an overstable disc that flies very stable and I appreciated that and a beginner disc because I didn't have my form down yet. I would highly recommend this just for anybody that starting out or has a family member or friend is starting out.

I picked this disc up to check out the heavy fade.  It got a spot in my bag as an approach disc where I need to go around a corner when a high hyzer is not an option.  Given the +1 stability, the flight and fade is very consistent.

It's a must-have in my bag for shots around corners to the left (RHBH) or right (RHFH) - I would consider this, or the whippet. I don't experience an immediate fade, but only after  a fairly long straight flight. The flight path projection is pretty dead-on.

The Viper is such an underrated and unique disc. This is the last of the large diameter drivers from the past, but it can flat out bomb. When new, the Viper is very overstable, but in a workable sort of way. I think this is because most super overstable discs lack glide. Not the Viper, it glides extremely well. I think this helps to give the disc forward fade instead of a dumpy quick fade. As the Viper beats in it loses some of that HSS and gains a little turn, making it great for huge flex shots. If you want something unique and different from everything else out there, give the Viper a shot.

I use my DX Vipers for one shot - tomahawks - as my meathook disc is an Innova Max. I cycle them based on wear and currently carry three. The most beat in one is 172g and almost unusable now except on the shortest holes and for recovery shots over trees. It simply turns back in the air too quickly. A second one is fairly new and 171g. I use this for drives up to 250' (I tomahawk for accuracy more than distance) and it pans fairly slowly. The third is 180g and was purchased a bit later than the 171g driver. Oddly enough, it actually turns back more quickly than the 171g disc, but I use this in heavier wind and for lower height hammers as the extra weight helps. I want to try a Champion or Star Viper from the Innova online store, but am concerned that I won't be able to get them to fully pan and turn back in the air.

Old School Meat Hook! Got this disc as a beginner and i hated it,but over the years as i got better at playing, i break this old disc out to cut around trees, predictable fade hook every time and holds up pretty good in the wind.

This disc does what it says it is designed to do, providing that you throw it right. I assume it is due to my beginner status, but unless I heave the disc fairly far it dies far harder than the projected fade. However, it I get a good turn on it from a good throw I can send it out around 200' and watch it turn in left and fade to a nice hyzer landing that often will skip up and slide in for good placement. That being said, and again, if I do not get enough power behind it this disc dies off fairly hard, nosediving into the ground. Little to no roll either, for me. I still give this disc a 4/5 rating due to saving me on more than one left bearing hole, it does glide better than projected, for me, and it holds a good line in both head and tail winds, again, for me.

Love this disc only wish it would come in multiple plastic types. it's very over stable but very controllable. it has good glide and doesn't crash down but will smoothly slide in

I enjoy throwing my DX Vipers they are 168g and 171g. They make good into the wind fairway drivers or any shot that need to finish to the right. I thow left handed. I would rate the turn on these at 0. They seem to fly straight then have a pretty stong fade.

I use the Viper off the tee on short holes around 200'.  RHBH throw hard right so this snake will come back left just as hard.  I've had a few near aces with this one.  I use the 150g disc.  It's also good as a putt/approach if you have a tree in the way.

The Viper the the best disc for throwing forehands with heavy fade(or backhands for that matter) in the 275-330 range. They will always do what you require of them and a lighter wieght one could work for newer players to need a good headwind disc.

The large diameter and old school rim probably scare some people off, but it's easily one of the best discs from yesteryear that are still around.

Flex shots are a breeze with the Viper, it eats headwinds for breakfast, and you can make it skip or stick by changing the flight angle.

I had a throw in from 125 feet out with the Viper to Eagle a par 4.

Downside, they are only in DX for regular production. If the Champ and Star VIpers from the factory store were a normal thing. I would always bag them.

Hyzerbomb has just put out the MOAB, which is supposed to be a Champ version of either the Tachyon 4.1 or Viper X depending on who you ask. And If I can find one soon I will be trying it soon!

I have a 180 g Champion Viper and it is single handedly my favorite disc. There are several holes on my local disc golf courses that I birdie every single time because of this disc. I have a pretty strong RHFH throw that I use for everything from driving to approach shots and this disc is a must have for anyone who flicks on a consistent basis. No matter how much power you put in it, you will almost never turn it over.

I have a more rare Champion version of this disc and boy is it overstable.  It turns left right out of my hand.  If I throw it flat it gives me 220-250 and goes well left.  It looks beautiful on flex shots and works really well as a hyzer bomb disc.  It tends to flip and stop when it lands instead of skipping away, which makes it very reliable.  It works fairly well as a sidearm disc too.

i remember when this disc first came out back when i was just getting started disc golfing around 1990. it showed up on the shelf at the same time that innova released a retooled hammer mold that is very similar to the viper. i carried both disc in my bag for many years, very similar disc except the hammer was more stable at high speed where the viper is over stable at high speed. this is the disc that invented the flex shot. the viper has stayed around all these years because it is a very useful disc but that  hammer went away a long time ago i wish they would bring it back as it is my favorite all purpose disc ever. i still have 2 of them one that is beat all to hell and one that is in pristine unthrown condition.
