The Innova Jay is a micro-beaded Mid-Range with a true-to-release flight, and it will be a staple in bags everywhere. This all-purpose disc can handle power or be finessed. It has better torque resistance than most Mid-Ranges, but still finishes straight. It is one of Innova's most point-and-shoot discs on the market. The Jay’s low-profile design fits comfortably in your hand for a clean release every throw.

The Jay has been in my bag all season thus far and I am really enjoying it as a neutral, workhorse mid. It's not the furthest flying mid I've ever thrown, but consistently got more distance than my Rocs and Roc3s. Versatility is a big strength of this mold. I've simplifed my bag down to just three mids, and the Jay is able to cover a pretty wide selection of shots from understable to slightly overstable. The beauty of this mold is the higher torque resistance than say a Mako3 or MD1, while still remaining quite neutral. In Star, once it's a little seasoned, it's pretty much dead straight on a flat, 80% power throw. Full power with slight hyzer, it will flip up. All I have to do is think anhyzer and it will do a nice gentle pan right without flipping. It's responsive to angles but not touchy. It's flat and fairly shallow, so if you have a good touch forehand it works well for that shot too. Another thing I really like is how well it powers down. I can get more putter-like shots on a 60% or so throw while still maintaining a straight flight. It's not really a great windfigther, I keep more overstable mids in the lineup for that. Great feel in the hand. Wide diameter, microbead (I like these, it's not very noticeable though), pretty flat, and not deep.

Overall, really solid netural workhorse mid. Maybe not quite the farthest flying, but still gets great distance and most importantly, accuracy. Can fill a wide range of slots. I'm covering all my mid shots with a Star Jay, Quantum Soltice, and Champion Gator (or basically MD3, MD4, and MD5 lineup). If you have a striaght mid you already love, it's not really going to give you anything different, except maybe feel. If you haven't fond "the one" mid workhorse, and a flat, large diameter, shallow, microbead sounds up your alley - give this one a toss.

This is my new workhorse midrange. Picked up a Star Jay on my local course, gave it a throw before putting it in the lost and found, and immediately ordered one in Star and one in Champion plastic. Very straight flyer with a tapering, pushing fade that makes it perfect for tight, wooded lines. Not the best flyer in an open field, but we don't have many of those in New Hampshire.

Feels like a more stable hex in the hand. Handles torque nicely. Holds angles with a gentle fade

The Jay is the disc that flies the way people say the Mako3 does. In my experience the Mako3 feels more like a putter and flies signifantly less stable than advertised. You know the meme "It holds any angle you put it on"? Well this is the only disc I would ever say that about.

Also its very comfortable. highly recommend.

Flies great as advertised, but something about the grip is off for me and results in late releases more often than other similar midranges in my testing. (Buzzz, Emac Truth, Remix Torpedo, M4)

I bag a Coyote, and have never fully understood why that never took off as the best straight shooting mid. I never liked the Mako3 as much and am annoyed about the Coyote being (semi)deprecated, so I started out with the skeptical approach that the Jay really adds anything but another disc for Innova to sell. The Coyote's numbers are 4/5/0/1, so very similar to the Jay (5/4/0/1). In my testing, the Jay feels great in the hand I like the sleeker, flatter feel. The Jay goes dead straight with very little fade, just as advertised. I get about 15-20' less distance than my Coyote with full power, so the 4 glide feels accurate. This is a nice disc, and if you're looking for a straight shooting mid, this fits the bill. I don't think I'll switch from the Coyote, but the Jay is a cool disc. I can get some OK FH flights, but it is touchy and prone to turning over too much if you don't get it just right. If you want a straight shooting disc that can handle some FH torque, I'd choose the Rat over the Jay any day.

This disc is true to what the flight numbers say they are. I wish it was more glidy, which is why it is only get four stars. I also wish it was beadless, sometimes the bead feels weird in the hand on a mid-range. But it will fly straight with a soft fade at the end.

Innova has another absolute winner with the Jay! From the first throw, I got consistent release points and predictable flight that was true to the numbers. This disc was an instant bag for me as it fills that "laser straight tunnel shot" slot perfectly. For longer straight throws I use a Kastaplast K1 Lots, but many of the technical shots on my local course require less power than the Lots needs to fly perfectly straight. A Fission Crave filled the slower slot for a while but, as I've gained power, it's become too flippy and works better for turnovers. I tried to disc down to a Latitude Compass in both retro and gold plastic, but I just couldn't get consistent release and nose angle with it. The Jay flies very similar to the Compass, but is torque resistant, less flippy, and more consistent. I think it might be a little glidier as well. As others have stated, it will ride an anhyzer or hyzer beautifully, and it also forehands like a champ. This is quickly becoming one of my "cold dead hands" discs that will never leave my bag.

In my experience with this disc, the flight is fine, but the underside of the rim is a bit sharp and has cut me slightly. For a beginner, this disc will be reliably overstable in a max weight. Pretty torque resistant for a intermediate thrower. I was hoping for a bit less fade. I think it's closer to 1.5-1.7 fade compared to the advertised 1 (but it could be the specific one I got). I think being beat in, it could be a perfect straight flyer on high power because of it's torque resistance.
