This disc is like a SNOWFLAKE. No two are the same. Some are overstable, some understable. You will never know which one is which! I have heard from people that this is a great disc, and from others how it is terrible. I have a groove and I personally don't bag it. It just has too much turn to it and I hate the feel of the rim. I wish they didn't make it in champion plastic as it just makes it feel worse, then it already is. I use this disc as my get out of trouble disc. If I know that I have to do something, which may lead to me losing me disc, then I just use the Groove. Not beginner friendly as it is just too fast for anyone to try. It may be a relic, in the future, but for now it is a joke. LOOK I AM NOT COMPLAINING. Some of Innovas line up is just like that. Even destroyers are not all the same. The only reason people love the destroyer is because it is less common to be not the same then the Groove. I understand that Innova tried something new by introducing the 'groove'. It is not that bad of an idea, but they should of stopped making the Groove after it messed up. Anyway, I am not saying that all Grooves are bad. If you are buying one, TRY IT OUT. You may actually like it. It just is your preference. I am certain that many players do have Grooves, just so that they can get out of bad situations. DON'T talk bad about the Groove always. I understand that it is not the best, but it shouldn't be made a joke. Look overall, a very difficult disc to really rate. It is not the worst, but the whole line-up is so unpredictable, so I wouldn't buy it if I was you.

    Champion Plastic (167g)

The Groove is certainly the most unique disc I have ever thrown, and I actually like it a lot. I laughed when I first found an unmarked Groove abandoned in a bush. From all the talk online I expected something completely un-throwable. However, after a little experimenting I have found some great utility! My Groove is actually very overstable, and skips more than any other disc I have ever thrown. This characteristic becomes quite useful for dog-leg type holes, because it can practically skip 90 degrees to either side. I suspect that the huge skip comes the extremely wide rim on the Groove. The rim does feel extremely wide in the hand, which would probably feel uncomfortable for anyone with small hands.

Okay, so I know everyone completely tears this disc to shreds in the comments, but let's slow down just a bit. I decided to buy into this debate and got a Groove from a friend. I will admit, I could SMASH this for forehand distance. The release was surprisingly clean every single time. But the backhand didn't feel any different from a Champ Shryke. So I can see why no one wants this, it looks like the Shryke's estranged uncle or some odd third cousin. However, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge a disc that seems to have some potential in the air for certain situations. Maybe there will be an internet trend where we ALL just go smash distance contests with Grooves.

In short, definitely a wonky disc, but I won't hate it on like everyone else. I won't need to bag it though.

This is one of the only discs I have ever owned that I would classify as unthrowable.  From other reviews I gather that this mold is super unreliable, so some of these discs are very overstable, some understable and others are good throwers.  The given flight numbers are nearly identical to a Shryke and the Shryke is a great disc so why take a risk with the Groove?  Just go get a Shryke.

I got this disc knowing what to expect and I tried to have an honest opinion of the Groove. I can understand the hate this disc receives for the signature groove in the rim (hence the name), but for my backhand grip, I barely noticed a difference, if at all. Forehand actually feels better for me than other wide-rimmed drivers I have tried flicking. Flightwise, I would choose something more stable for backhand, but it’s a decent enough forehand and not nearly as bad as its reputation.

If you expect to love it, you will be disappointed, but if you expect to hate it then you will be pleasantly surprised.

Disc - 174 Innova Champion Groove

Feel - The Groove feels very different in the hand. Obviously it has the groove under the rim but when using a power grip or a forehand it is not very noticeable. The Champion plastic is very durable and gives good grip in good conditions.

Flight - I'm guessing because of the odd shape of the groove that there are many variations from disc to disc because it seems like every review says something different about this disc. The Groove that I found is very overstable. It is comparable to a Discraft Force with less glide. The flight of this disc is nice because I know it will not turn no matter how hard I throw it and it will always fade back. I mostly use this for shots over the water though or shots that could be close to concrete or other things that could change the flight of other discs.

Overall - I would not recommend this disc just because of the odd shape of the rim and the inconsistency of the mold.

I've carried my Groove in my bag for about 8+ years now. I've found a use for it that no one else seems to have noticed. This thing is absolutely perfect for scatter shot tomahawks and thumbers. This disc can get paper thin and hit gaps between trees and branches with ease. Also incredibly good for high, big meat hooks around edges of woods. This disc has a permanent place in my bag.

For the champion groove the only good type of throw with this disc are flex shots but there are a lot of discs from innova or from any other brand that will do better. Firstly it is a 13 speed so you need a fast/strong arm to throw it anything decently and if thrown right it will not be a good flight. The numbers are off as the glide is more like a 4 or 5. Out of all the discs I've seen go lost or in the water, The most popular for getting lost would be the champion groove. Not good for any beginner or really anybody in general since there are a lot more disc options that will perform much better than the groove. This disc is unfortunately not rated well for understandable reasons.
