You know how some manufacturers discontinue a mold of disc and a whole lot of people get upset? Well, this disc is the opposite of that, and for whatever reason, Innova has decided to continue to produce this disc, despite the legions of pro's and amateurs alike who wouldn't have protested discontinuation of this mold 10 years ago. I wonder if they produced a whole lot of these discs? This disc is not good for beginners, yet it is often found in starter packs. It feels terrible in the hand, and it flies inconsistently. In fact, it's hard to find 2 that fly the same. This disc does have one use: a junker disc for those windy water shots, but even then I'd rather something else. This disc is the standard of which all other bad discs are judged. If you do decide to throw it, expect to be both heckled and frustrated often. I wouldn't pick this disc up if I found it.

    171g Champion Groove (red)

This is a terrible disc. I used it as a beginner because i found it in a tree. As a beginner, I mainly threw forehands, and the fell didn't bother me too much, except for the fact that it tore up my hands and gave me some nasty cuts from throwing it. I had to use tape on my fingers at one point. Flight #s wise, this thing is very stable. No beginner should throw this due to it's high speed, overstable plastic, and just all-around beef. Would never recommend to anyone. I am a big Innova fan, and they make good discs, but this one is just awful...

My favorite disc for a sidearm.  All weights will vary in the fade.   173-175 wont fade as much. Where the 170 and down fade harder.  I have had 6 grooves from heavy to light.  I use the 167-169 for side arms.  Because they can cut back plenty on a hyzer when I need it too.  And of course the more power the straighter it is.  Less and it will cut more.  Back hand the heavier works better. Good skipper also.

my favorite side arm disc. Every type of weight will vary on how much fade there is.  The 175 doesn't fade as much compared to my 167.  I use the 167 for side arms   Because it will cut back harder and I can still bomb it.  I have had 7 grooves so far.  173/175 for back hands.  169 and down for side arms.  Great skipping disc also.  The more power the straighter it is. The softer the more it will cut.  And champion plastic is the best. So durable.

Honestly, when I hit my first Ace with a Groove, I thought it was the best disc ever!

Since that Ace, I have hit chains once with it (a few days after the Ace)... and then slowly it came out of my bag. Considering how I use to hold my fingers on the rim for a forehand, it was a great disc. But I have changed to a more standard form and this disc does not fit any slot in my bag.

I give this disc 3 stars only because of my Ace... otherwise, there are numerous other options for a high speed slightly flippy with a fade that I would consider first--Corvette or Shryke, conisdering Innova only.

I have never understood the hate behind the Groove. Yes, it doesn't generally perform the way the numbers would indicate, but if you throw it for the flight it does have, it will reap pretty good rewards. I didn't replace the one I lost though because I heard that basically no two Grooves are the same. The one I had was a great max distance forehand driver at 300'. It would just hold the line with enough stability that I never worried about turning it over. If you can find one that you like, I say throw it!

I give this disc 2 stars as its possible you get one that works. I've never thrown two grooves that do the same thing, and even trying to put numbers on it would be wrong as some of them seem to be super overstable and others super understable. Please do not buy this disc unless you want a mystery when you first get to the tee pad. I have no idea how they made the disc so sporadic, but they managed to.

The Groove is not what was advertised. However this disc has become a life saver for my game because of its extreme meat hook tendencies. This is a great get out of jail disc because it will always fade extremely hard allowing for some huge skips or really hard spikes. This disc can also turn around the tightest corners on an anhyzer line making it extremely versatile. The Groove hardly ever comes out of my bag and even though it is a distance driver it is never used for a shot over 200ft because of its high fade. This disc has found a spot in my bag for those "how do I get out" shots

The numbers are so tempting!! But... alas... yikes. This disc is clearly designed to be an innovative addition to the innova line-up and test the waters on different designs on the rims of drivers. I honestly can't blame them for trying to make this work. The thought of having a comfortable groove to slot your hand in as you rip a high speed disc with glide for days is one that is soooo tempting. But, I'm sorry innova, it didn't make the disc more comfortable. This feels awkward in the hand and doesn't leave you with a consistent release that it was designed to have. Maybe innova can go the drawing board and try this one again, Groove 2 believer! But, this one didn't work.

This disc is a terrible piece of plastic. It hurts to throw. It’s waaaaay more over stable than the numbers suggest also. I could’ve found a spot besides in a play it again sports had the rim not been so disgusting.

The groove in the Groove is similar to the notch in the Monarch. Testing is still going on. The Groove is not like the Monarch. It seems to be just a driver rather than a driver/roller like the Monarch. My big arm couldn't roll any farther than they could air, however i could air it quite far. I see it as a complement to a Boss or Destroyer that flies fairly straight when thrown on a slight hyzer. Upwind requires more hyzer. Nose angles are critical to accuracy. rated=13/6/-2/2
