The Gateway Samurai is a high-speed distance driver with moderate turn and moderate low-speed end-of-flight fade. The Samurai is one of Gateway’s farthest flying PDGA approved discs. For newer disc golfers, the Samurai reacts like an overstable disc. For experienced players, it makes a good turnover driver. This disc is also recommended for sidearm throws, rollers, and tomahawk throws.

I got this disc primarily for try and throw as far a forehand as possible. When I was slightly disappointed in the distances I was getting out of the Journey I thought I would try one of these. I think that was accomplished, however I'm not sure If I could throw this outright farther or I was just able to grip it better. Either way, I got more consistently long throws with the Samurai.. If I can really need to reach something and have the space it seems like a good choice. If I need my accuracy I usually go with an Apex.

As others have noted this disc most definitely has a small bead. It's small enough that you probably won't notice it on backhand throws. Its not very pronounced, however it is a bit rough to the touch in this plastic. If your hands are a bit slippery it can give you a little more resistance to stop the disc from slipping. This also means that once in awhile I get a weird reaction on my release. Overall, it could have probably benefited from not having this feature.

    Flight numbers seem accurate enough.

The other reviews detail flight pretty well so I won't reiterate.

I did want to comment and say while the info here does say this disc is "beadless" the disc I received most certainly has a small bead around the rim.

The Slayer has a much larger bead, where the Samurai is much less pronounced. But if that type of thing on a driver turns you off it may not be the disc for you.
