The Journey is another of Gateway's long range driver.

The Journey has a low profile and long wing for speed, and a perfect transition from the nose to the flight plate allowing it to have a long straight controllable flight with just the right amount of overstability. It has enough resistance to turn for the big arms, but it's not too overstable for the slower arms and newer players. Players of all skill level should be able to make the Gateway Journey one of the longest throwing discs in their bag.

Picked up a used one of these. At first it flew very similar to my grace, which was awesome because I was looking to sub that one out. It however ended up beating in quite quickly to become very flippy so it too got subbed out, but lately, I've had it back in as my turnover/hyzer flip driver and it is excelling in that slot. Hand feel is pretty comfy, feels slightly shallower than the average driver but not too shallow. Plastic is kinda soft feeling but it holds up well. Great compliment to my straight and overstable discs.

I do like this disc but it does not do what I purchased it for.  I was told that this was an understable disc, it is not, at leaset mine isnt.  That is my first complaint with gateway their discs/runs are not consistent.  My journey is much more overstable than the numbers say.  Mine flys like a faster Thunderbird with a bit more glide.  I do love the feel of the plastic which keeps me reaching for it.  Hopefully it beats in fairly quickly and becomes somewhat more understable.

In a disc golf world saturated with understable 11 speed drivers, the Gateway Journey competes with the best of them. For people who can't flip an MVP Wave, Innova Wraith, or a Discraft Scorch, this is the 11 speed driver you're after.

It feels incredibly slim in the hand, but not a paper plate. Most Journeys will feature some dome and be understable out of the box, but some of the HD runs are board flat and actually pretty stable, close to 11.5/5/-0.5/2 like most ESP Scorches seem to be. Be sure to check the dome to get the flight you're wanting to achieve. It does have the benefit of having a slow flip out of the box, but as it beats in it will flip more quickly. That initial slow flip is really nice for matching woods lines, as it will go quite far without much initial movement to the right before its gentle fade at the end of the flight. Beat in Journeys will lose their fade entirely if they end up on anhyzer at any point in the flight. People who can push beyond 450 feet will be able to roll the Journey and may only find it useful for rollers or tailwind bombs. This is really a great disc for slower arm speeds looking to try a wider rim disc and get comfortable with drivers as they grow into them.

    A breakdown of Gateway plastics:

Diamond (transparent/translucent): Feels like softer Innova Champion plastic. A bit of gloss, good rim stiffness, but a flexible flight plate. Tends to have moderate dome.
Diamond (opaque): Feels like stiff Innova Star plastic or Discraft ESP. but with a soft flight plate. Will be a touch more stable. Tends to have average dome.
Diamond Superglow: Feels like gummy Discraft CryZtal or Innova Champion plastic. Not nearly as glossy, so wet grip is improved. Tends to have average dome.
Hyper Diamond: Softer than Diamond plastic but reinforced with fiberglass to give a much flatter flight plate. Resists beating in. Will have little-to-no dome.
Platinum: Feels like soft Innova Star plastic with a bit of a pop top. Beats in more quickly than Diamond plastic.
Suregrip: Baseline plastic, will be pretty flat. Beats in quickly.

In conclusion: power throwers above 450 feet will want HD Journeys to minimize dome and add stability. Slower arms will want any blend to get good turn and durability. It's a staple for me for maximum distance with control.

I originally bought this disc in hopes of using it on more open windy courses. The first thing I noticed upon receiving it is the nose/rim shape. It doesn't have a straight edge like most drivers I am used to, rather it has a curve to it. At first I thought it looked pretty cool and felt nice against my knuckle. However, when I tried in field practice it seemed like it might be an issue especially with forehands. When I had a good release it seemed accurate but I couldn't consistently get a good release with this disc.

Because of this feature I felt myself reaching for my Apex more often I would say between the two the distance and glide seemed about the same so I didn't feel a need to throw it as often. That being said I bought this in a heavier weight to handle the wind never beat mine in enough to make it a -2. So, there is a good chance that on equal footing and a little more work I could have thrown it 50ft farther.

There are some windy courses I wish I would have gotten a chance to throw this beefy guy on however I tree kicked it into the middle of a river and never got the chance. It's in the back of my mind to try to it again and see if it can out perform other drivers as is claimed, but the rim shape makes me think twice. The plastic is durable enough that it felt more stable than -2 at least in my limited use.

The Gateway Journey in diamond plastic is a very good disc for most people, but not ideal for practically anyone. If you want max distance there are better options, but this disc will handle power fairly well and fly far. If you want a more controllable driver, this is also a good but not great option as it is sensitive to release angles and will absolutely burn or not flip if thrown incorrectly but is more forgiving than a typical understable 11/12 speed (looking at you, Hades). This disc is worth trying and others might like it more than I do, but in a properly built bag it doesn't serve much of a purpose other than possibly on the "I don't know  what to throw here" shots.

The plastic is very nice and has a pearly finish to it. It grips well until it gets wet when it becomes an uncontrollable missile due to the texture of the plastic. Anyone who owns a towel shouldn't care about that second part though. Try to find a bright color for this plastic though as I have a white one and a green one and they disappear more easily than most of the discs I throw regularly.

This was the disc I wanted for long drives. I don't have the arm yet for the real beefy discs, so this one is more my speed, so to speak. I haven't yet measured a throw with it, but it definitely flies a lot further than my previous long drives. The diamond plastic is Gateway's standard premium and will take a lot of abuse.

I have a 180g F2 Diamond journey that has come in and out of my bag for the last year. I like the diamond plastic. It is not too stiff and feels slightly gummy. I would compare it to some well worn Innova champion plastic. Brand new, thrown hard and flat, the disc would fly dead straight with a tiny touch of fade. I could throw about 350ft when I got it and it would go every inch of that. The glide is very noticeable; even without max power, the disc will go far, and its finicky in the wind. After a few months, the disc started to fly more like the numbers would indicate: straight for 50% of the flight and then a slow turn that would last until the last 5% of the flight when it would barely fade out. This flight pattern combined with the glide was really nice for wooded holes where you need both distance and accuracy.

Unfortunately, it only held this flight pattern for a few months before it became super flippy. Six months after purchase, I had to stop using it because the turn on it was just really unpredictable. I tried using it as a roller disc but couldn't get a consistent action out of it. I think the edge is just too thin. I'm still giving the disc 4 stars because, for a while, it was exactly what the numbers suggested, and the end-of-life for this particular disc might be uncharacteristic.

Beginners will probably have a hard time getting this disc up to speed, but intermediate players looking to move up from a fairway driver might really like the Journey. It is way easier to throw than other 12 speed classics like a Destroyer (probably because of the high glide).

I agree that it's a 12 speed and I even agree it's a 6 glide but it is more stable than the numbers indicate. I give is a -1 turn and a 2 fade.

It does bomb and it can handle time torque. Less stable than a destroyer but more stable than a Shryke.

The plastic is very grippy and feels durable.

This is a disc to get if you need something between a destroyer and shryke

    Plastic: Diamond

    Weight: 181g

Feel: Gateway's Diamond and HD plastics are perhaps my favourite Ultra-durable blends on the market.  The grip is phenomenal and the discs just don't really care what they hit.  My Journey has a fairly pronounced dome, but I only throw this Backhand so it doesn't really bother me.

Flight: This is the best Distance Driver for those who can't really throw those max weight Destroyers and Zeuses, but still want a fast, far flying disc that'll softly turn to the right before smoothly fading back.  I don't have a massive arm, but this disc has gone ~380ft on a perfect throw of mine.

Conclusion: If you can't throw >400ft, but still want to try, throw this.  The Journey's glide will keep it aloft when thrown low, and it'll flip just enough to get you those extra feet.

Sidenote: Never tried to throw sidearm, probably because of its big pop-top.

I love this disc, definitely one of my favorite drivers! Thrown flat it will turn just a bit before fading at the end but it is a super straight flying disc that gives you alot of distance. It needs a strong arm though and even though I really like it, I think someone with a stronger arm would like it even better as I'm in the intermediate arm strength range, I believe. I have found it to be really stable and given enough room, can throw an anheizer shot that will level out and continue straight which I love as an option if I'd prefer that to a forehand. I have a Destroyer and I use this kind of opposite of my destroyer. I like the Destroyer for a straight shot that will fade at the end and this more for a shot that will turn and bit and then end up straight by the end.

This has been the first distance driver that i'm able to put some distance on with some consistency. At my arm speed (intermediate) I'm able to get some good distance out of the journey before it comes back on me RHBH. I'd rate it as more stable to over stable, but i think that's just because I can't throw that hard. Good feel to the disc. Definitly a more forgiving driver to slower arm speed.

I have had this disc in my bag for a few years and it never really found a place in my rotation. It flies very similar to my daedalus but is less trustworthy in wind. Overall it is a good distance driver and i really like the grip.

I used this disc as my main fairway driver, and it came out perfect. It has lots of flight, glide and a little turn in the end. I can say it helped me lower my score at a tournament.

The Journey is my go to driver right now.  Been playing about a year and tried a lot of different discs.  I keep coming back to the Journey.  It feels great in my hand.  I love the Diamond plastic.  I get great distance and it is very workable for me.  You owe it to yourself to at least try the Journey.

Great disc for forehand.  I can throw this by far the furthest out of any of my drivers.  Easy to see and find.  It’s a very nice plastic and holds up well.  I bought it in diamond plastic and 170 g.  I would recommend it to anyone.  Everyone that I have let throw it loves it.

This is not only a bomber disc from Gateway but a super straight one too!.  Probably THE straightest distance driver I've ever thrown.  It holds whatever line you put it on with minimal fade.  Long slow hyzer? perfect.  Long slow turnover? perfect.  Straight as an arrow in front of you? perfect.

The Evo Diamond plastic that my Journey is molded in is awesome. Good flex, which allows a solid grip even in colder temps (at least by AL standards), but not too floppy, and very durable - kinda important for a driver.

    Flight by the numbers: 11.5 | 6 | -1.5 | 1

This disc definitely does NOT exhibit the major high speed overstability Infinite presently has listed. I think this is a product of Gateway's old flight rating system, which was rather confusing. Gateway now rates it at 12 | 6 | -1 | 1, or at least that's what was stamped on mine. An even but pronounced dome gives this disc the huge glide advertised, and the disc is definitely fast - somewhere around the 11 or 12 speed category, although the rim size seems more in keeping with the 11 speed category. I don't tend to jive as well with really wide rims, so that was a plus. Thrown level and hard, I can push it to the 350'-375' range (abnormally far for me), at which distance this disc winds up somewhat right of center, but is not uncontrollable or diving right into ground. With about ten degrees of hyzer, it will stand up, track a touch right, and then fade back to left of center; it has some tendency to skip, but not as much or far as more overstable drivers of comparable speed.

Overall, the Diamond Journey is a solid choice for a max distance driver. Like any high-speed driver, it isn't great for tight fairway work or for beginners, but it does offer developing arms big distance without huge over- or understability.

Awesome disc! True to it's ratings. I throw this thing in place of so much stuff now. It goes STRAIGHT! It fades a bit at the end as expected but not a meat hook. You don't even have to put much on it and it goes dead straight! No real "S" turn unless you make it go against it's flight. The "S" turns I did throw were nice and flat, very controlled. Love this disc. It's gonna beat in great!!! I never thought I'd bag a Gateway Driver...Perfect feel. I throw RHFH. FLICKS GREAT LINES!!!!

Gateway has been known more for their putters, but I think they hit a really strong one here with the Journey. I was super impressed with the way the Journey flies. For me, how I'd compare it is almost a faster CD2 from Discmania. It pops up and turns slightly without too much effort, and has a nice gradual fade. And the glide is no joke. It flies so smooth.

Gateway gives this disc a 14 speed rating, but I'd say it falls more around 11-12 speed in more traditional flight ratings. The rim is thicker, but not too thick at all, I actually think it would be a perfect disc for someone wanting to step up to faster discs but are concerned about how their hands will handle the thicker rims. The Journey I think would fit well in any disc golfer's hand.

If you are looking for a nice straight flying disc that will give you the distance without a flight that is hard to control, give the Gateway Journey a try!

I am actually really impressed with this disc! Often Gateway drivers haven't been the most consistent when I throw them, but this one did it's job every time! It goes quite the distance and it does it on a very straight path. There's not a lot of S curving going on, just a slight turn and a slight fade as it just glides.

I will say I had to throw it decently hard to get that beeline flight, but it was very predictable and I was very impressed. I am also really impressed with the recent Diamond Evolution plastic, it feels great! It's kind of like a slightly chalkier version of lucid or champion plastic.

Anyway, I'd might suggest the speed rating to be 12 or 13. The glide at 8 is questionable, but it definitely does have high glide. The -1 turn and 1 fade are spot on in my opinion. I'm excited to continue to try this disc out. For me it would be the perfect tunnel shot disc!

I was in the shop and they actually gave me one of these for free...

The glide is stupid, unreal. If I'd read an 8 glide in a infinitediscs post, I would've called BS, but its true -- 7 glide at the very least, comparable to the Saint or River. Incredible.

I do disagree a little bit with the speed rating. I've thrown 14 speed drivers and had them fade out on me (I'm not a huge power thrower) but I could get this thing to hyzer flip up flat. Then with that glide, it was a complete winner for me.

But, to the point, wonderful surprise to get the disc for free and to have it perform so well. I could consistently throw it further than my Octane and Destroyer and Catalyst.

I have not generally been a big fan of Gateway drivers. To me, they always seem to be "OK" but nothing special. I was very interested in trying the new Journey because of its high-speed, but straight stability rating. The Evolution Diamond plastic is really nice, and about as close to premium plastics from other brands that I've seen. It is very close to Discraft Elite Z, Innova Champion, or Dynamic Discs Lucid plastics. It is durable and translucent.

I took the Journey out to test along side some other high-speed drivers, so I could compare the distance and control to other somewhat straight flyers. After a few times back-and-forth across the field, I found that the Journey generally held its ground, at least in terms of accuracy. Though it always fell about 20-30 feet short of my other speed-14 and speed-13 drivers, it held a surprisingly straight line with only a gentle end fade.

I wouldn't say that the Journey is a break-through driver in terms of distance for Gateway, but I would say that the Evolution Diamond plastic is a solid step forward, since players generally want distance drivers that can take a beating. And it is definitely one of the most predictable and steady distance drivers I've thrown from Gateway.

Great job on this one, Gateway! It wouldn't be my go-to bomber, but it would be a very serviceable, precision driver for the 250-350 foot range. Maybe guys who can throw 450 to 500 feet would flip this disc over, but it really didn't flip over at all for me.
