I love this disc it is a easy throw for me if I need good reliable distance in the woods It controls so well out of the hand I recommend that you should bag one if you are in the phase of not really beginning but you have figured out everything there is to throw far and with a good form I push 400 feet

I began throwing this disc very early in my disc golf career. Though it was probably way too much of a disc for me (lucid plastic at 175 grams too), I felt like this was very easy to throw. For beginners in particular, this disc seems very easy to hyzer and to learn how to throw an effective hyzer. Later on though, I began to learn how to actually utilize this disc. Throwing this disc now, it is amazing to watch the flight. Being a 14 speed, I can get some very good distance on this disc, especially when throwing an anhyzer and utilizing the full -3 turn rating as well as the 3 fade as well. Throwing this disc early on in my career probably was not the greatest idea, but I feel that it helped me to evolve my form and gain distance and skill. I recommend more experienced arms definitely give this disc a try. As for beginners, it may be worth looking at (though I am usually very much against beginners throwing such high speed discs) just to learn to throw mega hyzer shots because this disc will help gain some distance and will definitely finish overstable when thrown that high.

The wide rim and low profile works well for my forehand and I don't like the feel for a backhand. Brand new this disc seems to have a more usable -2 turn, but as you beat it in, it becomes more understable. I no long bag this disc because I find it to be unpredictable. If I threw rollers this might be something I would go back to, but it's too touchy to be usable for me, especially on flat courses. That being said, I've gotten some really nice distance out of this disc on hyzer flips when I get the right power to not have it flip over.

*Note about me as a player to help this review be most clear: I am 'intermediate" skill level, usually drive around 275 +/- 25 feet. I throw right handed. Hopefully this allows you to compare to yourself better and please keep in mind what point of view my comments are coming from.

I don't really have any business throwing a 14 speed, but I bag the Freedom as a utility disc for big backhand hyzer shots. My local course has some shots that are conducive to this and so it stays in my bag. It does typically do what I expect it to and is a reliable thrower for me.

In the hand, it is not the most comfortable. I like the lucid plastic, but it has a very wide rim and is shallow. I don't feel overly comfortable using it to try to hit a tight gap and isn't the most natural feeling in my hand.

Disc - 173 Dynamic Discs Lucid Freedom

Feel - The Freedom is not very comfortable in the hand. It has an extremely wide rim and it very shallow. I have fairly large hands and most discs feel fine to me but the freedom is just too wide. The lucid plastic is great as it is very durable but also provides very good grip.

Flight - The Freedom is very understable. It is similar to a blizzard champ katana in its understability. If you have a an average to above average arm speed it will not fly well for you at all. It will flip on its back even if thrown with an extreme hyzer angle. For those with slower arm speeds it can be a good max distance disc because it has great glide and lots of turn and fade. But for most players it will not work very well for you.

Overall - The freedom is just a disc that doesn't work very well for most people. I can see why it was discontinued by DD because it only works for a few select players.

I actually found one of these unmarked at a local course. It looked almost new. Max weight Lucid white. I hadn't felt or thrown one before so I was curious. It was a dissapointment compared to other understable max speed discs like a Katana. It's shallower and less forgiving. Maybe even a touch faster but with that creates larger deviations in flight. It is very understable with just a little hookup at the end. Probably my least liked of all the Trilogy discs.

If you like the feel and throw maybe 325 it may work well for you.

I really like this disc.   Though it may be the one that I picked up, but it is quite a bit more under stable than the numbers would suggest. Almost like a mamba.  This thing is a rolling machine!  Throw it flat and real hard, and this thing will drop down 150' away and run down the fairway like it's being chased by cannibals.   Throw it high with some hyzer and it will flip and turn right for a good distance and fade back for really excellent distance.   Very much a finesse disc. I am having a lot of fun with it.

This is an interesting disc. The flight is comparable to a really lightweight katana or Balista, although the feel is much more similar to the balista. It has a nice thin profile with a really big rim, that is rounded at the edge. This disc is super under stable, and super fast, the only thing I can really use it for it massive sky anhyzer shots. And I don’t really have the arm for that usually, so that tells you how flippy this thing really is. I am a huge fan of Innova’s Katana, and I was hoping to find a faster version in the freedom, but I didn’t, the rim feels a little awkward in my hand, and it is much more understable than I expected, but, decently beginner friendly, the flight is actually more comparable to a Daedalus now that I think about it. Note: This review. Should be a 3/5 star, not a 1/5, I can’t seem to get it off the 1/5 setting :(

This is another of those high really high speed (14) that I just get 0 consistency with. I have tried a few different plastics, and while I can throw them far, I can only guess as to where it might land. Beginners are in no need of anything this fast, and in most cases would hurt there overall development throwing this early in form work.

    175 g Handstamp Lucid and 167 g Lucid.

The 175g can be flicked with an extreme hyzer.  This is my longest flick disc.  I've parked and overshot a 439' downhill basket.  Difficult to control and can't handle any wind.

I can backhand the 167 g Lucid.  This is my furthest backhand disc, but the turn changes a lot with changes in wind.  Typically a small hyzer is needed for straight, turn, and fade.

Easier to control than a King.  Not as easy as the Destiny, Insanity, or Mayhem.

Great advanced level driver. Really nice light right to calm left fade. Has a nice skip at the end of flight. Love it for open field shots or long forehand throws. Great disc, my favorite in bag.

I got this as a gift from a friend and decided to throw it blind with no knowledge of how this thing should fly.... And oh my does this bad boy fly!! I primarily use this disc for my anny lines and it really just wants to go.  Granted it has only been in my bag for about a 2 months, but what a glorious 2 months.  I have easily found a home for this disc, and while I also throw a king and a queen I would not consider them to be similar at all?  The all have completely different flight characteristics in my humble opinion..

I got the Freedom because I had tried my brothers out and the disc flew like a rocket from my hand. It had a perfect flight to it that made me overshoot the hole and nearly hit a house that should not have been in play. I was amazed and couldn't believe it so I ordered one for myself the next day. Well, very first throw of mine I release it on a similar angle only to watch it flip into a roller barely 50 feet down the fairway. I couldn't believe it so I tried it again. And again. I could not believe what was going on and was sorely disappointed by it. I have been working on my roller game, so it has stayed in my bag for that reason, but it does not fly like I wanted nor is it as consistent

My Dynamic Discs Freedom in Lucid plastic (unknown weight) is a very understable driving disc.  I like other discs from the Dynamic Discs line and I LOVE the Lucid plastic, but I only find the Freedom so-so at best.  For me, this disc is too understable and I have lost it to the right far too many times than I care to recollect.  I really don't have a place for it in my bag as my Discraft Stratus in Elite X plastic does anything and everything I need from an understable driving disc.  I even tried to make the Freedom my backhand anhyzer disc but it had too much fade at the end.  When I would intentionally try to turn it over on an anhyzer line it would start to the right, stop, and then abruptly fall back to the left.

Players with slower arm speeds should benefit from throwing the Freedom.

    Fast and Flippy

I got a Lucid Freedom as a player's pack disc last year. It took me forever to throw the thing, because the rim is HUGE and I'm pretty much set as far as drivers go. Having a bit more free time on my hands these days, I decided to give it a go this week during some field work.

The Freedom flies very true to the advertised numbers. It is very fast out of the hand, with a generous amount of distance-stretching turn. Thrown flat, it won't fade so much as just gently settle to the ground. If you give the Freedom some height, it will stall out and fade decently at the end of it's flight. Hyzer flips are a breeze with the Freedom, as are high anhyzers. Anytime I tried a low anhyzer, however, I found the Freedom would simply turn into a roller. I never even attempted a forehand.

The thing I hated most about the Freedom was the rim. It is just super-duper wide. I couldn't ever get a very good grip. If you have long fingers and are looking for something fast and understable, then give the Freedom a try. If you don't meet those qualifications, skip it.

The Freedom is a bit of an enigma. Super thin profile and a very wide rim. Extraordinarily fast with good glide. Only issue with this disc is finding the right amount of "oomph" and release angle to put into it to produce the desired flight. It's finicky and loves to either fade out or flip over. Getting that perfect flex flight on the Freedom can be tricky. The potential is absolutely there with this disc, the trick is to throw it in such a manner that the potential is realized.

Lack of consistent flights with the Freedom would keep me from bagging it. It's still fun to toss around though for pure distance bombs. There are better options out there though if you want accurate distance.

To start off I have thrown this disc compared to a Blizzard Boss(real lite about 140g), Blizzard Katana(147g of so), Pro Destroyer(167g), Wave(175g). I throw all of them backhand.

I got a 170g Freedom early in the year.  At first I threw it and it was fairly overstable for me and I got my throws a lot flatter with less Hyzer.  It does a great S curve if you can get the disc to throw for you.  It is less reliable I think than other discs at being really consistant but it is a great disc to really get you to throw good since it isn't to forgiveable on bad throws.  What I mean by that is it will flip on you or Hyzer on you.  If you need a kinda flatter throw tilted either direction based on how you want it to perform.

Hyzer a bit to make it flip out and then come back about straight at where you aimed.

Flat throws you will go out there flat very a split second before it starts to just Anhyzer to the right and it'll slowly finish off coming back to the left

Anhyzer shots you might as well just attempt to throw a roller since it will go way right and might flatten out for you but this isn't bad if you are looking for that kind of angle.

No cue if it's good at rollers or thumbers or anything of that sort since I have not perfected that.

As far as distance.  It gets me down the field at least 300 feet most of the time on a good throw.  I can max this baby out at probably close to 400 feet and even further once I get my technique more defined.  It will NOT out throw my Blizzard plastics but it out throws the Wave and Pro Destroyer.

This disc I would say is not meant for people who don't have some kind of arm.  It is meant to be thrown with some strength and/or speed and not doing so you just won't get the Turn on it.  Also please remember most discs start out Over Stable or Stable but tend to work their way out of that a bit after the first week.  The stats on the disc are fairly accurate for a brand new disc but it won't stay like that.

Found this disc in the woods a few days back no info so score for me, looked brand new and was nestled in some light branches. its a 167g

took it out to favorite course and tossed all my other primary drivers (champ valkarie, champ boss, star tern)

threw all my other discs out  with no wind approx 250-300ft between the lot then tossed the freedom which flew about 6-7 feet off the ground straight as an arrow out shot all my discs by about 30 feet and was dead on ready for an easy putt to the hole.

used it on a couple other holes that were more open (its black so im worried of losing it in the trees) and results were exactally the same.

i highly recommend this bad boy, it has swiftly made its way into my primary driver, now just need to buy one that isnt black.

Gotta speak my truth here.  The 1-star rating is not so much for the disc itself but for all the hype surrounding it.  I read the reviews here on Infinite Discs and also elsewhere, and saw a lot of  “I don’t throw with much power but the DD Freedom goes a lot farther than other discs”, etc. etc.  Since I’m an older, noodle-armed slow-throwing guy, I was hopeful the Freedom might add a bit of distance for me, so when I saw a 174g Freedom, I purchased it.  To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.

I threw the Freedom on an open course along with other speed-13 discs, and it did NOT get any more distance than any of them.  But it was keeping up with the Starlite and Blizzard Bosses, so I borrowed a 166g Freedom from my friend who is a Dynamics Discs fanatic.  That was worse:  the 166g Freedom was very overstable (a serious consistency issue with Dynamic Disc production runs?) and even a hard anhyzer couldn’t get an S-curve out of it.  It was horribly inconsistent, as well.

After four rounds on the course with its uphills, downhills, winds and calm conditions, I took to the range a 144g Starlite Boss, 149g Blizzard Boss, 171g Champion Boss, 166g Freedom and 174g Freedom.  No winds at all; dead calm.  I got the lite Bosses 300-320 feet.  The Champion Boss and 174g Freedom were about the same, but behind the lites by 20-30 feet and not at 300 ft.  The 166g Freedom was horrible:  it would meathook on straight throws, going 240 ft. at best, and hard annys would either crash and burn or still hook left.  I returned that disc to its owner, who doesn’t like it either and intends to sell it.

With the possible exception of the Innova Atlas, I regret the DD Freedom purchase more than any other I have made.  The moral of the story is:  don’t believe the hype, the Freedom does NOT get more distance than other discs, and IMHO unless you can already throw with POWER and throw a speed-13 disc well over 300 feet,  you’re not going to get any more out of a Freedom than a speed 11 to 13 disc.  Unless you have that power, I recommend NOT buying the DD Freedom, so sorry.

It's rapidly becoming my go-to distance driver.  I figure I've got about average arm-speed, and I can get this to hyzer-flip, ride right, and fade back slightly.  It's a great disc.  Thin profile, but glides for a long way.  Not a disc for the big arms, as it's likely to turn and burn if given too much snap, but for us regular joes it's pretty sweet.

VERY understable disc for me. I have above average arm speed and can handle most 13+ speed drivers this one is super flippy for me. However watching other people throw it with less power than i have i see big distance out of this disc. So buy this disc if you are not used to the higher speed stuff but youre wanting to try a speed 13-14 but dont want anything that is going to hyzer out on you right away. This disc could be great for you

One of the best discs put out by DD. Which is saying something, they have a lot of good discs. This disc is beefy enough for big arm players to put out on nice controled lines, but easy enough for someone like me. I throw around 300-325 on my backhand consistantly and with this i've added 50ft easy. Also I have a bigger forehand and am able to hyzer flip this nice. Also I can throw a very predictable s-curve now reaching 400ft. I defintly recomend this disc.

If you're looking for a disc that will flat out go farther and give you more distance, you may want to consider the Freedom. For me, a backhand 330 foot throw is a good one. With the Freedom, 330 is a regular throw. My 168g Lucid Freedom is just the right stability for max distance for me. When thrown flat with full power it will embrace a long gradual turn to the right, then fade back at the end of the flight. I was very impressed with how long it would hold the anhyzer angle, but it would always come back.

I usually don't handle big rim drivers very well, they hook too hard to the left unless I get my speed and timing down perfectly (not a regular occurance for me). The Freedom is understable enough that it works for moderate speed disc golfers like me. Great disc from DD.

I threw a Freedom for the first time today in Lucid plastic and it's a pretty cool disc. I'd say that the ratings are right on the money. This is a very understable disc for someone that can throw 400'+ but it does have a nice 'S' curve just as the flight numbers suggests if you throw it on a hyzer. This will be a LONG disc for a lot of people out there. The rim is a bit big for my liking but it should fly somewhat straight-to-over stable for newer players and be a big anny or roller disc for my experienced players.
