Slightly more overstable than a Captains Raptor. I love the overstability and reliabiltity.

Such an underrated disc! Very over stable and takes a giant skip when I hits ground.

Perfect for meat hook shots. like a firebird but bigger and better. definitely has positive turn to destroy your distance but give you a huge skip. my favorite utility disc.

I love this disc, but I use it only as a utility disc. Until I got my hands on a Tilt, this used to be the most overstable disc I had ever thrown. It's ridiculously overstable. But because of that and the ultra wide rim it has, it's a great disc for flare skip shots, flex S-shaped shots through trees, and things of that nature. I've said this before... I'm not a fan of the Discraft plastics as they feel inferior and less grippy than other manufacturers, but otherwise, this is a great disc. It's most definitely not a distance driver though!

Review for Z Machete: I have a first run, and I don't want to spend the money on a Z FLX (I've heard only great things about them).

Bottom Line Up Front: This disc is not at all for beginners. Its very overstable and has a fade that makes it skip like 20ft left all the time. It is beloved by overhand throwers, so give it a shot if you're a tomahawk/thumber player.

I like this disc. Its a lot though. It is definitely a utility disc. There aren't any pros I can think of that I've seen use them in tourney play. Don't take that or the 3 stars as me saying this disc is without merit. If you have to throw down hill and turn a corner its great. If you need to skip around a corner at 250-300ft out its great. If you're an overhand player its great. However, those aren't super common shots, nor do most players throw overhand very often. I get it, there are a few guys in your area that are really good and that throw a lot of great overhand shots. Again, I can't think of any pros that throw too many tomahawks or thumbers. Some of them will throw the occasional grenade. Aside from some top tier forehands, I don't know why someone would throw this often (excluding overhand).

Honestly, this disc is almost exclusively for overhand players or vanity players (throwing it because its so OS, and feel like that adds credibility to their game...although it usually has the opposite effect).

This disc has quickly become one of my favorites, and often the one my friends end up asking me, "what did you throw there?" I love it mostly for big skip shots, thumbers, forehand rollers, and grenades. It is my ultimate utility disc.

I am a brand new player and bought this to throw it 400 feet.  Well scrap that.  I am going to have to get better before this thing stays in the distance driver section of my bag.  That being said, buy this disc.  Its an overstable birdie machine from 225 in if you need a big hyzer shot.  Just throw it on a line and it will fall out of the sky and stay where it lands.

The Machete is a good overstable driver.  Nothing flashy but very dependable.  It has a low profile which helps give it a smooth release and it's consistent.  It's great for fighting the wind or big hyzer shots.  The Machete will give you a good skip when you need it, but the nose is relatively blunt so the skip is pretty controllable.  Great sidearm disc with the low profile and ability to handle torque.  I'd compare it to an Innova Monster.  Discraft's Raptor draws a lot of comparisons but is slower.

I did not enjoy throwing this disc. RHBH was inconsistent, but RHFH could make this an average disc. Very little glide when I threw one compared to other similar rated discs. I first heard of the Machete as an overhand disc, but was supremely disappointed with flight path and available distance. I’d try another, now that I’m a little better haha, but I wouldn’t recommend the Machete to anyone.

I love me some OS discs. My whole bag is almost entirely Stable/OS discs, and I can say that I can say after many throws that this disc is not for most throwers, although it definitely serves it's purpose.

This disc will not turn over (unless terrible form). It is crazy OS- it was expected to be a faster Firebird, but I really only see it as more OS and prone to dumping. It's not as glidey as advertised, either. Frankly, I don't see it being useful at all unless you're throwing 100% hyzer for only about 300-325 for most intermediate/advanced players.

That being said, as an overhead disc I see it being phenomenal due to it's ability to hold it's line. Also, bigger arms can have it explode for awesome forehand anhyzer-flex shots, if given enough loft. As advertised, it definitely cuts through the headwind as well. I was able to get a perfectly straight throw about 340 into a headwind, but only thanks to a pretty generous skip, and for what it's worth I consider myself to have a semi-powerful arm. Also, despite my personal experience, it feels incredible in the hand.

That being said, beginners beware. Overhead throwers looking to mix it up? Try this disc.

    The Mecca of overhand discs:

The guy who says this isn't a good overhand disc couldn't be more wrong. Overhand is what this disc was made for (hence the name "Machete"). I too am a former ball-player, and I threw around 90MPH in high school.

This is a must have disc for overhand throwers. It pans out and goes further than any other disc I have found (other than the novelty Aerobie Epic). I throw a Firebird and a Flick overhand (mostly thumbers). The Flick pans out wide and goes much farther than the Firebird. The Machete pans out even wider, and goes even further than the Flick.  I will say this again, if you throw overhand, you MUST have this disc.

Got the Glo-Z Machete (WHITE) 173-174g. This thing is awesome. I agree with calzone it is much faster than whatever firebird'esk disc you may or may not have.

    • For flicks it is an animal
    • For skip shots its a beast
    • For flick roller shots it can go straight for a looong time
    • Thumber/overhand decent but doesn't want to travel far. (Im an ex-ball player too and can crush overhand/thumbers - this should be noted.)

The following is my thoughts and my experience I know everyone is different buttttt:

I have tried every shot with this one and it is reliable to say the least. 30 second background on myself- Power wise I have had a max drive of 442' once in my lifetime (non internet feet-measured with GPS) and I usually average from 380-400' consistently with my drivers(again NON INTERNET FEET). This driver moves very very fast out of the hand and will want to cut left (RHBH) BUT I was able to put it on a straight line for 300-325' no problem before the fade, this is a shot that will be most used for me and is seen on many courses that are dog legs left. I am new to the flick game (<2years) but can still zip drives, the fade seemed more aggressive on the flick no matter how much power I gave it, in short backhand is the way to go with this one for your most accurate results.

Please if you give reviews put the plastic type/color/and weight because when we read and it says this disc will make you want to quit disc golf I just wonder ok well how fast does this guy throw and what plastic type was it and are you throwing max weight or something?

That's it, had to chime in cuz I feel like everyone is selling the machete short and I don't usually write reviews unless Im passionate about the disc so there ya go, buy one

If you're looking for an overstable 9-10 speed driver, look no further! This disc feels great in the hand, and the flat top on these discs makes it very versatile for all throwers. The Z's for the most part are fairly stiff, aside from the gummy dayglos ones from the first run. The Big Z's also have a bit more flex to them and are straighter than the Z's for the most part.

For me, this disc is a faster and more overstable FD3. It is definitely faster than a Firebird, Predator, Felon, or whatever other 9 speed overstable driver you currently have in your bag.. This thing for most players will be the ultimate utility driver used for skip shots, spikes, overhands, trick roller shots, etc.. However, for those with 450+ (non-internet) distance, this thing can become your workhorse forehand driver, or your go-to for hyzer shots. When I need more fade or skip than my C FD3, this is what I reach for.

It has a smilar stability to a Discraft Nuke OS, however is MUCH slower than that.. My flight numbers on this disc are 10 3 0 4, or on Discraft's scale their 2.2 is fairly accurate.

I highly recommend this disc for experienced players only, as it is not designed for slower arm speeds.

I can't imagine too many people being able to flip this meat hook. I throw rhbh and it goes left no matter what angle you put on it.

It's definitely not a distance driver. I would classify it as a VERY overstable midrange/fairway driver.

If you carry a Machete you may only throw it a few times in a round, but very few discs can do what this does.

Be careful. If you throw this disc with hyzer it may come back and hit you in the head. (LOL.)

If you want to make a new player feel like there is no hope for them in the game of disc golf, hand them a Machete. But if you are an experienced player, and you want an overstable driver that turns hard, then here you go! The Machete is perfect as a super-overstable, beefy driver. Discraft advertises the Machete as a disc that "slices through headwinds" and that is 100% true. You almost require a headwind to keep the Machete aloft. You can throw the Machete into the wind and it will still fade...no flipping here.  If you throw with a lot of power, you'll still get an overstable result. You can anhyzer the Machete and it will fight its way back out to the overstable side almost immediately.

The Machete is basically like a Nuke OS with a rim that is not nearly as wide, making it easier to grip for guys like me. It may not fly quite as far as a Nuke or Nuke OS, and I'd be surprised to see even experience players get over 300 feet with a disc like this, but that's not what it made for. It is a utility disc, and a very good one. It can turn hard around obstacles, and make some mean S-curves with a powerful forehand throw. And yes, it can fly into wind.

I give it four stars for being very good at what it does, but would never recommend it to beginners. This is a disc to fill the overstable slot in an experienced bag, where only moderate distances are needed with sharp turns.

Discraft has Overstable down. The most overstable disc I've ever thrown is a Nuke OS, and I've also thrown some Discraft Flicks that are laughably ridiculously overstable. Well, the Machete is right there with them. Thrown backhand, I can get as much distance with my Dynamic Discs Justice as I can with the Machete driver, this thing slants out of my hand immediately and hyzers like there is no tomorrow. It makes the Machete work perfect for really short (like 200 feet) spike hyzer shots for me, so reliable. Other than spike hyzers, the only time I'd ever throw the Machete backhand is if I was playing in like a 50 miles per hour wind.

One of my absolute favorite discs is the Discraft Flick. The perfectly flat top, thin profile, and, ridiculous overstableness make that disc so reliable. My brand new pink Machete is every bit as overstable as my beefiest flick, but I don't like it nearly as much for forehand throws because it does have a slight slanted dome around the edges of the disc.

Overall, if you're looking for something massively overstable that will NEVER turn over, and don't want a rim as thick as the NUKE OS, this is it. For my arm speed and preferences I will stick with the Flick.
