As a newer disc golfer, I don't have a whole lot of frame of reference for lots of different discs. And putters are no different. This is maybe my 3-4th mold of a putter I have tried since I began playing and boy does this disc fit me well!
Feel: This putter feels so much better in my hand than literally every putter I've tried so far, except my K3 Reko. I've tried five different P2's, an MVP Ion, an RPM Tui, a Shaman, a few Bergs in different plastics, a K3 Reko, and played a few holes with some buddies putters (wizards, P3x and something else) and now this. And it feels exactly like my K3 Reko! It's sort of thin and shallow, but not so much as my Shaman. The Link has the perfect amount of rim to hold onto if you want to power grip it and has a very ergonomic shape (nice semi rounded pointy nose/rim shape) that fits in my hand perfectly (I have huge hands and yet LOVE slightly smaller thinner discs in general and hate deep dish putters). The shape of this putter and how it feels in your hand is a huge reason why I love this putter and why I can putt, approach and throw with this disc so well. It's like Discmania read my mind when they made this thing! It also has a beautiful shape. The leading edge is perfect and sort of reminds me of my Ion. It's a sort of rounded pointy shaped rim. And the top is dead flate with the tiniest bit of puddle to it now after having it for about a month. Feels PERFECT in your hand when throwing and gives me so much confidence because of it's perfect handfeel and shape!
The bead is totally irrelevant to me. It makes no difference. It cracks me up that people say they can or can not putt with a putter if it has a bead or doesn't. I have putters with and without beads and it makes no difference at all to how it actually throws. It's all in your head. I'd say the only thing the bead has a tiny effect on is when I use it for tiny little FH flick approach shots. It just feels a tiny bit different then my Reko and doesn't come out of my hand quite as clean as my Reko does, but still works amazing for that shot. The Reko is just a bit better for that shot. But other than that, this disc feels incredible and is perfect. Overall it has a thinner profile than the P2, and less rim depth as well. And that is perfect for me. The P2 and others like it, are too much like a frisbee to me and I don't like that feel. This Link is perfect.
Plastic: As the last reviewer said, these plastics are 100% Scandinavian. The Exo Soft is the one I feel the most comfortable with. I can't stand rock hard slick putters like the Discmania P line stuff. I get no feel, no release/snap, nothing. Also, the Exo Soft is 100% like the Kastaplast K3 plastic in every single way. I bought a K3 Reko two weeks before I picked up this Link, and this Link is 99% the same as the K3 Reko, but the Link has a tiny bead and the Reko doesn't. Other than that, they are identical in every single way, shape, feel, flight path, stiffness, durability, etc.
So what does all that mean? It means this putter is one of the best out there and has an incredible plastic that has the perfect feel, perfect stiffness and perfect flight path. It's a very odd feel to me as I've never felt anything like this plastic. It's sort of tacky and like fingerprint sticky. But not gummy. It's more like a dry, satin, chalky feel, kind of like some of the nicer mobile phone cases. It's incredible! It's very durable for a baseline plastic as well. It's bright white, so you see ALL the chain damage, but even after a few months, it still looks really good and has no major chunks missing like my D line P2 does. It's a semi stiff plastic overall, but the flight plate gives just a tiny little bit. If a P-Line is 5 out of 5 in stiffness, then this is like 4 out of 5. Stiff enough to be very reliable and consistent in it's flight path even on hard throws, but it has that incredible soft, satin, chalky, tacky feel that lets your finger prints stick a tiny bit to the disc, to allow you to get snap on the disc with the most minimal of wrist flicks. To me, this plastic and the K3 are THE PERFECT putter plastics. And so far, more durable than other companies baseline putter plastics.
Flight: Not going to bore you with all the details about how it putts other than it putts perfect. Once again, as the last reviewer said, most putters putt about the same around 20' or in. It's only when you get to longer putts and throwing do putters truly separate themselves. And this putter does both just about perfectly! All putts inside 30' are just about dead straight with the tiniest of fades near the end. Also has the perfect amount of glide for putts (not too much, not too little) and it also throws well for approaches. Just point, aim and shoot and watch it go dead straight, fade 1-3' and land a few feet from the basket like it's falling onto a bed of goose down pillows. Silky smooth approaches are so easy with this thing. And if you really get on it off the tee pad with some power or a long approach, it does show some turn and stays there most of the flight until the end, when it softly fades back a few feet. For a net flight of straight. It also can get out there off the tee! On a few warm up sessions before a rd, I've thrown this thing almost as far as some of my mids! And very easily as well. It's not like I have to really crush it.
Overall: this is by far the best putter I have tried to date along with my K3 Reko. The two are identical twins other than the bead and I putt and throw with them both all the time and can't even tell which one is in my hand sometimes they are so alike, haha. Putts just about perfect, feels better than any putter I've ever tried, the grip is incredible, and the durability is great. You can throw a lot of different flight paths with this disc and it also works great for little FH flicks and recovery shots. Thank you Discmania!
