Good disc, good plastic feels good in the hand. It will do exactly what the numbers say. Use it for headwinds, expect a good dump at the end of the flight. Too over stable for regular use for my weak 300-320ft reach. Great for tech shots getting around corners. Raptor seems more appropriate for me at this point.

Innova Star Xcaliber 166g and 173g

This is a great overstable distance driver. There really is no better disc in this slot. The disc has great glide with consistent fade at all weights. Unlike similar power drivers like a PD2 it has the same stability but will not fall out of the sky in the same way. Additionally, the X Cal won't have the same tendency as a Force to turn. This disc is fast and those with a powerful forehand will love the consistency this disc will provide. When thrown properly this disc is fast , resistant to turn, and overstable.

This disc is like a much faster Innova eagle, which is my fairway driver of choice. What I like about the xcal is it's moderate glide. Just like the eagle, you can beat this disc in, and it will still remain plenty stable. If it is windy, you won't have to worry about your disc getting turned over and not coming back nearly as much as other distance drivers. Great dependable, long life driver

Nice forehand disc, just a little to beefy for me. I will throw it in my bag when playing windy places, to combat the wind, where my destroyers and wraith may overturn too much. Not a disc that stays with me everywhere, but glad to have it when needed.

I bought a Sexton X-Cal at a local shop just because I saw the greatest swirls ever on the disc. I originally had a ultra-domey X-Cal, but had sold it because I wasn't satisfied with it (probably because of my lackluster arm speed). Now, after developing my game, I decided it was worth trying again! Now I can't get enough of using it. I know I can't push it as far as other discs in my bag, but it is very workable for such an OS disc. Master the angles and get flair skips on command. I would definitely NOT get this disc if you are new to the game, this disc requires at least some degree of discipline.

The Star XCal is a really good forehand disc for someone who doesn't have a very good form. Very forgiving when released on a stiff anhyzer angle because of the overstability of the disc. I love using it for a long flex forehand throw!

I may not have a big enough arm for this guy, but if I need a disc to break HARD after thrown this is the disc. There are a few holes I play regularly where I need to stay left due to water. I can RHBH this disc with confidence because the 4 fade makes this disc break hard left.

Xcals are one of the greatest molds ever created. Very overstable but workable. I love them for headwind forehand anny flex shots. Heck I use them in most headwind distance situations. Super reliable and fast. Good hand feel for both forehand grip and backhand power grip. If you are flipping Destroyers its time to test your power against an Xcal.

Disc - 175 Innova Star XCaliber

Feel - The XCal feels like a beefier destroyer, which is fitting because that's what it is. It has a very blunt edge and most are flat topped. The rim is fairly wide which is to be expected out of a 12 speed driver but it's not so wide that it won't fit in the hand. It feels good for both backhand and forehand shots. Star plastic is very durable and also gives good grip in all conditions.

Flight - The XCal is very beefy but still has some sneaky glide. I use the XCal for those 375-390 ft shots that I don't want to turn at all and I need a nice finish at the end. The finish of the XCal isn't quite as hard as that of some other overstable discs as it has more of a gentle type fade instead of dropping out of the sky.

Overall - I really enjoy the XCal but you have to beat them in a bit to make them more workable. If I could find a more beefy destroyer it may kick this disc out of my bag but it would definitely still be around for more windy days. I would recommend this to players who have problems with destroyers being good for long distance shots but want something a little more controllable.

Ive had 2 175g star Xcals in the past few months, and both of them have not flown as advertised. Im convinced that they misstamped destroyers with the Xcal stamp at this point. They both flew exactly like my destroyers, even less stable than a couple of my destroyers. What's the Issue here? I tried emailing Innova about this mainly just becase I would like to have an Xcal that flies like it should. Anybody else noticed this?

This is a longer firebird. It requires all the power a top level power thrower can muster. If you don't have power, it can be used for shot flex shots and skip shots but probably not over 250'. Different than the firebird however, this thing has bit more glide and forward carry. the Rim is comfortable but on the wider side. If you have smaller hands it may not feel so good to you.

An overstable disc for sure, but not uselessly so. Excellent for windy days, the flight of the disc is barely affected. On RHFH anny flex, this disc will fly a long, long way. I have also found it very useful for those crazy low skip shots. You can basically get this thing to skip 90 degrees to the right at the end of its flight if you throw it very hard and low at the ground with hyzer. It is a great utility disc to have.

I picked up an echo star xcal recently and boy does this thing fly beautifully. I would say this disc flies very similar to a destroyer, but with a forward pushing fade. This disc feels great in the hands for sidearm and can handle a lot of torque. Overall I found the flight to be similar to a PD2, however with more glide.

The Xcal is exactly what it appears to be, a longer range firebird. I find the only thing that really separates this disc from the firebird is that it's skips are even more aggressive. I bag this disc for one shot, and one shot only: a hard hook with a skip to the pin. If you are trying to use this for anything else you are probably using poor form.

The X-Cal is the definition of predictable. I find it difficult to turn this disc over at all. It fights back with a vengeance. Great in windy conditions.

This is more of a utility disc for me. Not my longest disc, but I can trust its stability in any condition.

This disc doesn't really come out of my bag too much until the wind picks up, and then I reach for it again and again.  The Xcaliber goes really far on whatever line you initially throw it on and then hooks up hard.  If thrown flat or with hyzer you will rarely see it turn over.  This is an extremely reliable overstable distance driver.

Disc: 166g Star X-Caliber (white, bottom stamped)

Found this disc and it had no number so I tried it out. Love it and been using it for forehand shots galore since I got it.

Flight: I throw primarily forehand with this disc, and it flies pretty straight for me for a good while, and then fades out at the very end. I can also get a good S-curve with a bit of an anny angle to start it. I've never turned this disc over. Flies well but overstable enough not to turn over.

Use: This is an amazing forehand disc. Doesn't turn over on you, but it's not a meathook that doesn't go anywhere. Anny s-curve lines are great. Straight shots with a fade at the very end. Also a great utility disc for tomohawks.

Summary: I really like my x-cal and it's come in handy many times. Has a great feel in the hand with it's size and I can really flick it well. I recommend this disc if your forehand is ready for it.

The Xcal is exactly what everybody says and thinks it is. A ridiculously overstable fast driver that mere mortals are not equipped to wield. I don't bag this disc because I like to keep the facade that I have a strong arm. All jokes aside I mostly throw wraiths, and have a couple destroyers for windy days and usually throw 350-400, but I have to get a good rip on my used Xcal to get it past 300 feet. I own this disc just in case I decide to play during a hurricane.

This is THE ONLY DRIVER I BAG OVER 9 SPEED. I have a 172 star plastic one that is very flat and I throw it for forehands mostly, but I also love to back hand it a lot because I can get a pretty good flip out of it if I throw it flat. I also have a 168 champion version that is very domey and I only throw it backhand and I love it! I can put this disc on a pure hyzer for about 400 feet and I can get it to flip really well and give me about 420 with a solid fade and skip. I use it for headwinds and calm wind shots mostly. For a tail wind shot I just take out something slower or a little more understable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that Intermediate to Advanced players find some not-max-weight versions of this disc in any plastic and try it out and see what you think of it as your go to distance driver.

I love this disc! Mine is a 170+ Star plastic that I use for long forehand shots (RHFH). Almost impossible (for me) to turn over, it will always come back and fade hard, often with a large skip at the end if the landing is flat. If you throw knowing it'll fade hard, it can be very reliable. My buddy uses it as a forehand for his midranges, aiming to skip it into the basket. He's surprisingly accurate with it but I need to throw full power to keep control over the disc.

I would not recommend this for small arms or beginners, I can't really throw it backhand at all except for hyzer bombs. Great for windy days or throwing downhill. Decent hammer disc as well, but not my go-to for that shot.

I really like the Xcal, and I typically avoid these types of discs. This is a very overstable disc, but it is still workable if you have the power. I like it for shots that I force over into an extreme flex shot. I know this disc will always come back to the left. This disc also seems to be great for flex forehand shots. This is not a disc for less powerful arms, beginners avoid.

I will never have a bag without an XCaliber in it. This disc is my go to for thumber shots. For those that can throw thumbers <250 this disc will pan a bit slowly and won't roll away as much as you'd expect. For those that can throw thumbers >250, myself included, this disc will stay vertical for about a quarter of its flight and then do a fairly quick pan over and around to be vertical again and then continue to fly vertically without falling straight down.
Now to move on to this disc for normal shots. This disc is great for forehands for only those that can throw a forehand >300 feet. The glide depends on if there is a dome or not on the disc, but the finish is strong and consistent. There is a big skip that can be gotten from this disc.

This has been a staple disc in my bag for years, and I honestly cannot say enough good things about it. I learned how to play mostly forehand and this is the bread and butter for forehand players in my opinion. If you're looking for a high speed forehand disc then you just found it.

It's not a very beginner friendly disc just due to how high speed it really is, and the size of the rim can be a little tricky for some people starting out. But once you get a solid form down for your forehand, pick up one of these and thank me later. I carry two in my bag at all times. One super old star that I've used for years that is a little less stable and has a reliable flex to it's flight, and a newer mold that is basically a dependable overstable distance shot. Before it's broken in they maintain a completely predictable straight shot with a consistent hard fade at the end.

Try to grab the flattest top ones you can, as the more dome it has the more OS they can be, and the disc is still plenty OS without the dome.

This is my favorite disc ever made. I throw mostly rhfh and this disc has been saving me for years. I started using an Xcal way earlier than I was ready for and it set me back when trying to perfect my form but ow that I understand the how's and why's I still use this more than any other disc in my bag. It is stronger than any wind, overstable in any weight (172g is my sweet spot), it's fast, and can handle any and all power. I throw mine on a forehand anhyzer and get beautiful flights that go right to left to right.  Thrown flat they get huge skips. Thrown high they will tombstone right where you want them. I use it thrown backhand to make right turns around obstacles. This disc never gets the love it deserves!

I've been throwing an X-Cal for years now in different plastics. My current one is a 172 Star that has a little bit more bend than my previous one, the flight has been pretty similar. I use it exclusively for max distance, full power flicks that I hang out over the left side of wherever I want it to drop. I have zero fear of the X-Cal turning over and give it 95% of what I've got knowing that it will drop 350-375 from where I throw if I am right. I find that with the shallowness of the disc compared to other overstable drivers, it sits very comfortably in m y hand and allows for a consistent grip with no moving fingers on release. It's actually one of the last Innova holdovers in my bag since I started moving towards Trilogy plastic. I may replace it one day with an Enforcer since I've tried one out and they seem similar, but at the same time why change what's been working for so long? Love the X-Caliber.

P.S. My review is written with only forehand drives in mind. I would have no use for this backhand.

The Innova X Caliber aka the Hipster PD2 since it did it before it was cool. The pitch for the Xcal really isn't that good "do you like to throw with anhyzer... blah blah blah" and does undersell how neat this disc is. The Xcal feels similar to a destroyer in the hand but a bit chunkier in a way i'm struggling to quantify and is pretty comfortable backhand and forehand. My example is a Max Weight pop top small stamp Echo Star Xcal and man is it tasty.

The Xcal to me is very, very similar to the Dynamic Discs Enforcer or the Nuke OS. It is mostly utility oriented and isn't designed to go that far unless you are rocking big boy power. It also has much less glide than I expected (even in the echo star which is notably more glide friendly) and honestly I would call it very predictable. If you throw it correctly this disc will do exactly what you thought it was going to do and if you saw it off it will only do exactly what you expected it to do. This disc works well for more trick shot styles like overhands, grenades, but is very, very serviceable forehand and backhand in the wind. I would say for 80% of the round you probably won't need this disc as an average player but when you do it's nice to have.

This disc works magic in a head wind allowing you to still get decent distance while maintaining good control, cross wind and tailwind performance is debatable but to the lower side of average.

This disc is awful for beginners it is super overstable and won't go far at all.

Overall my thoughts on the xcal are similar to that of the enforcer, there is probably a group of people who can rip on these things and absolutely bomb, I am definitely not one of them. It serves it's purpose for me mostly in utility offering great headwind performance and is awesome for those trick shots or hard dumping skip shots. 3/5 stars suits it right as even for the most powerful players an xcal will need a good amount of wear before it starts becoming flexible and usable for other shots.

I use the XCaliber solely for 325-375 overstable forehand shots. The XCaliber replaced the PD2 I had in my bag. I have found that XCals are more reliably overstable than PD2s and give me a cleaner release.

[I definitely still consider myself a beginner; however, I started out throwing forehand drives because it just felt natural, so my forehand is probably a little bit better than a beginner's forehand drive. Keep that in mind as you read my review especially if you're just getting into incorporating a forehand drive into your game.]

As a forehand-dominant thrower, this is my go-to driver for nearly all open shots (especially if it's windy). I don't have a huge arm, but I can get some okay distance from this disc. I can throw on just about any reasonable angle and get good results. For me, this disc does have the capacity to shape some lines, so I can work some trees with it (my disc is a little bit worn in, so perhaps a little less stable than a brand new one). Very predictable for my particular forehand. VERY! Also, nice skips if the terrain allows for it.

As I am still working on a suitable backhand drive, I can't speak to its performance thrown backhand. If you have some good power and control on the backhand, then I'm sure this would fit the bill as a very predictable overstable flyer. Overall, and as others have stated, really great forehand disc if you have a pretty decent forehand (I wouldn't necessarily say you need a ton of power on the forehand to get useable results either).

I want to sum up all the one and two star reviews for the X-Caliber for you:

I cannot seem to get a CONSISTENT FLIGHT out of this disk, even though it finishes with a hard fade in EXACTLY THE SAME SPOT, EVERY SINGLE TIME, even when I throw it directly into a strong wind.

Even though my disk is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, FITS WELL in my hand, and I can tell it is made from the BEST PLASTIC on th planet, I am going to give it one star because I just do not think I will ever have the arm to get any use out of this disc.

I know this disc must have been engineered for high power veteran players, but since I just started playing 3 days ago, I am going to give this disk one star because I do not have the ability to throw it yet.

All in all, I think that good players looking for a wind fighting complement to their Destroyer, that is a reliable forehand distance driver and is very useful for getting around corners, would find this disc to be very useful, however, I cannot possibly recommend this disc to anyone because I can't imaging ever being good enough to ever use it.

Found my 174g Star X-Caliber without a name/number 2 summers ago.  It has been my go-to RHFH driver since.  It's well broken-in now.  Very consistent flight:  throw it low and flat and it goes out about 275' and drops hard to the right at about 300'.  I've started using it for wide open anhyzer flex shots.  Again, throw it low RHFH with a slight anhyzer and it will take off left and flip back to the right in a beautiful and long S flight pattern about 350-375'.  It is also my go-to head-wind driver.  I can always count on it to stay straight and come back to the right.  Its standout quality is consistency.  It's weakness is its glide.  Flight ratings are accurate IMO.

I don't think I'd recommend this disc to a beginner unless they were exclusively a FH thrower with decent FH power.

*** I never throw it RHBH - I'm not powerful enough.

*** I have a Champion X-caliber that has not made the bag yet - much more overstable than the Star.

I still consider s beginner level player. My arm speed is getting much better and my form is developing well but I still feel that this disc is still a little out of my range. I like a more understable disc that gives me a somewhat straighter line. For me this disc hooks a lot and it is not as predictable as I hoped it would be. Sometimes I need a disc that has a major fade but I can't get this disc to do what I need when I need it to. Everyone throws different and some discs are just not for some folks and I think I found one that don't fit me. Maybe when I get more experience it will be a more useful disc but for now I can't bag it.

When I first bought my 172g Star XCaliber, I was expecting that I would use it for long distance on a hyzer and a go to headwind disc. To some degree I was wrong with both of those expectations. I usually can't throw this disc more than 370ft. on any release angle, even an anhyzer. I can usually throw my Champion Teebird a little farther. It's not that I don't throw very hard, I can throw my Blizzard Boss, Star Vulcan and Star Destroyer 400 easy and up to 475 if I absolutely crush them. This disc has too hard of a fade and low glide (definitely not a 5 glide) to be thrown far. Once this disc is fading, it will be going 90 degrees from the line it was thrown on, not a forward penetrating fade. If you release this disc on a hyzer, it will hold the angle you released it on for a while and then fade hard into the ground. This disc will not go more than 350 if released on a hyzer, unless you can throw 80mph or something. If you want long distance on a hyzer, the Destroyer is the best choice for that.

For the most part, this disc is good in a headwind. If the wind is pretty strong though, it will actually turn a lot more than I would want for a very overstable headwind driver. I think an overstable max weight Destroyer might actually be a better choice for those stiff headwinds. My 169g Destroyer has less tendency to turn than my XCaliber, but it goes much farther. My XCaliber does actually fly somewhat far in a right to left wind or diagonal headwind/right to left wind. I have thrown it a little over 400ft. in these conditions.

Ultimately this disc didn't do what I expected it to do when I bought it, but it will still be useful when I need a 90 degree turn at the end of the flight. I think I will be using this disc a lot more for hooking sidearm shots, because it has a comfortable grip sidearm for me. This disc is like a longer distance firebird with a slight degree of turn at high speeds.

I have a 175g x-out star xcal and this thing is a great utility disc. I use it as a longer firebird not really as a distance driver backhand just a reliable long spike hyzer disc thats going to hold the line to the ground. I can trust this disc to hold straight before breaking hard left (RHBH) in a major headwind/ scray downhill throw. Further, this is a great forhand, thumber tomahawk disc quick roll over very consistant. To me this is a faster firebird with more glide. You probably won't use this as a Ddriver or even every round, but when you're stuck behind something or absolutly can't risk a flip because of OB or water you'll be glad you have it.

This disc is great! My most consistent long range driver. Also, it has my longest drive of about 465'. This disc is great for strong forearms, but I would not recomend to someone who doesnt have great arm speed. Will always have a spot in my bag!

This disc is a crazy meat hook. I keep one in my bag at all times but it really requires a specific circumstance for me to pull it out. However whenever I do pull it out it is the most consistent disc I own, simply because it does nothing but turn. If I really crank on it I can get it about 2/3 the distance of my destroyers. It doesn't finish forward at all, by the time it is done flying it is usually going 90 degrees to the side of the direction it was going on release. There are a few holes at my local courses that require such a shot and therefore it keeps its place in my bag, but you shouldn't be throwing this disc for distance. I think it has a little more glide than similar meat hooks (firebird, moster, max, XXX, stiletto). I appreciate that even when I'm turning hard corners I can still get some distance while doing it. If you're throwing this disc consistently, you're probably doing something wrong with your throwing motion, but on holes when you really need to turn hard, there aren't many better discs out there.

This is a disc that will ALWAYS come back, if you put this disc up in the air (some good height) you can put this on a huge anhyzer and it will come back and still finish with a left hook (RHBH). If you have a problem turning discs over I would highly recommend this disc to you. This disc will give you huge S turns, make a great disc for getting around obstacles, and if you throw it on a straight line and not enough power it will drop off pretty fast on you.

THe Xcalibur is the angry meathooking brother of the Destroyer. It has a super hard fade, a super amount of glide for a monstrously overstable disc. It's is not for the feint of arm. If you do not have a 400 foot drive, this disc will act incredibly overstable to the point of being just silly. It really excels on big flex shots both backhand and sidearm. I am not a fan of it in Champion plastic and really only like it in Star. It's not a disc for everyone.
