The DX AviarX3 offers a grippy, base plastic version of Innova’s most overstable Aviar, with a flat profile that excels in windy approach shots and power putts. The DX plastic breaks in faster, allowing for earlier turn and more versatility over time. The Innova DX AviarX3 is an affordable option for testing this torque-resistant putter.

This is one of my go to  disc, now my favorite plastic is my color glow, My puddle top XT  plastic is my main plastic I bag for the course because where it hits it sticks. The Dx plastic I think is great for practicing putting but not something I would use for a tournament.

For field work I throw star, luster, champion, XT plastic .

I love Aviar putters, but this does not feel like an Aviar for the most part. The X3 is VERY flat topped, and has a deeper rim than most Avair molds tend to. This is effectively competing for the Pig slot in my bag. I like both molds, but keep going back to the Pig.

The Aviar X3 is still a good disc, but the flat top compared to the Pig with the thumbtrack just seems to appeal to me more. That's not to say this is a bad disc. The AX3 has an amazingly consistent flight, and can be relied on to hook up on pretty much every throw. The almost complete lack of glide, combined with strong fade means this disc goes as far as you throw it, and not much further. If you throw this disc poorly, you will know as it won't go far.

I am primarily using this disc for upshots under about 100 feet as it is more consistent than my Nova is for spot placement. The Aviar X3 hits, and if it rolls at all, it quickly just circles around and lands about where it stays. I like that I don't have to worry about roll-aways with this disc.

Overall, I am not disatisfied with the AX3, I just tend to keep reaching for my Pig in the situations where I would throw this. I love the feel of the R-Pro plastic, the thumbtrack for the added spin, and the slightly thinner profile that is better for forehand shots. If you keep wanting something different from your upshot putters though, give this disc a try and you might enjoy it.

    Disc: DX AviarX3 - 175 grams, Orange/Blue/White colors

Feel: All colors feel similar and have a stiffer blend of DX plastic, resulting in a very flat top beadless approach disc. The DX plastic can get torn up pretty easily from tree hits so beware. Pretty easy to grip forehand and backhand. Feels like a flattened Discmania P2 and a little taller than the Aviar3, I could see this being used as a putting putter once broken in or if someone were routinely dealing with windy conditions.

Flight:  Handles torque pretty well forehand for approaches and short drives (100-200ft), which is the primary reason I reach for this. Holds backhand angles pretty well and can be forced to fly straight with a bit of anhyzer. Generally overstable out of the box, it holds up pretty well in the wind. Softer and less skip prone than the premium plastics, the DX AviarX3 catches most surfaces well.

Impressions & Comparisons: More stable and has additional glide vs. the DX Rhyno. Less glide than premium plastic P2s I use as driving putters. I think these feel better than the XT plastic (also flatter and not much durability difference), but choose to bookend with a Luster AviarX3 for stability (fade) nearing a Flat Gator/Mortar. My forehand approach lineup generally has a DX & Luster AviarX3, Star Rat, and premium plastic Mortar/Gator. I generally choose between them based on the straighter or more overstable flights and distance control/ground action.
