This Paul McBeth signature disc is similar to the popular Innova Destroyer in flight and feel. The Zeus is a go-to driver for power throwers looking for max distance and consistency. The Zeus has a fairly wide rim with a 2.3cm wing length. This is an excellent disc for both forehand and backhand throws for players who can handle the stability. The Zeus is also currently available in Discraft's Swirly ESP plastic.

I throw this disc in a Brian Earheart lightweight 165g, and it is still very stable for me. I do have a natural hyzer release, but I cannot for the life of me get this to flip up to flat or push forward. It dumps straight left (RHBH) for me. I am hoping that after beating it in and get it seasoned it will be a staple in my bag.

Something doesn't feel right about it to me. My specific Zeus (one of the first runs) came out with no dome, these horrible embossed letter on the inside of the rim where you grip, the ESP plastic is kind of slippy, and it turns over too easily. There are worse 12 speed stable drivers out there, but there are also better

The Zeus is a great disc that can be utilized in many different ways. Backhand would be the most common you will see but it can't be ruled out as a forehand disc as well. The ESP run can vary in stability but overall, you can normally expect the Zeus to be an overstable distance driver. A seasoned or "beat in" Zeus will fly at a further distance by giving you a slight turn but still a reliable finish at the end of the flight. Thrown at a lower line and with a hyzer, you will usually receive a reliable skip as well.

A bomber disc if you have the arm for it. It's a neutral flier that reliably fades left at the end.

Found this disc in the creek the other day without a name on it.  I added it to my bag and have been throwing it a few times a round.  I agree with the statements below.  Form and power is very important with this disc, otherwise it turns into a giant meat hook.

This review is for the ESP Zues, but also includes the BigZ

Bottom Line: This is a niche Discraft was missing for a long time. 12,5,-1,3 discs have more or less become the gold standard, and the Zeus is an admirable offering to that class.

Discraft never quite filled this gap in their lineup until Paul McBeth came around. The Nuke didn't quite cut it for me. Its a great disc, but its in no way revolutionary. You will be as happy with a good Zeus as you would a good similarly numbered disc from most of the manufacturers.

It fits nicely in my hand (big w/ long, skinny fingers), and I can use it for backhand or forehand. I do think its a better backhand disc. The first run ESP's were more gummy and less overstable. I personally like them for max distance flex line drives. The later runs tended to be flatter and more OS.

I also started throwing the BigZ Zeus released around Aug 2021. They were typically a little gummy, softer in the hand, and less overstable. Its a good sub, if you want something like the less OS initial ones. Note that some of the BigZ, not many, were stiff and more OS (still less than the OS ESP ones). Also, some of them glowed, which was cool.

Like all of the destroyer class discs, they seem to run the gammut in flight and feel.

    Distance Drivers aren't beginner discs.

    Disc - 172 ESP Zeus

Feel - The zeus feels very similar to the innova destroyer but quite a bit more shallow. The one I have is fairly flat but I have heard the domey ones fly quite a bit better than the flatter ones in general.

Flight - The zeus is not my favorite distance driver at all. It is very shallow and does not seem to glide very well for a maximum distance driver. I am guessing that the more domey runs of this disc glide much better than the flat ones but I feel that it is much easier to get an Innova destroyer for a much cheaper price and that flies better overall.

Overall - Decent distance driver overall but with how expensive some of these are I feel that you are able to get a much cheaper disc that flies better overall.

This is my favorite disc in my bag. The destroyer used to be my go to distance driver but lately they seem to be very inconsistent disc to disc. When I heard about the Zeus from discraft and Paul, I knew it would be similar. Well to me it's even better! It's very consistent, feels broken in brand new, and is predictable. You can get great s turns with a slight anny release, big hyzers , and great straight to fade shots. I highly recommend this to players looking for a destroyer replacement.

In my personal experience, I much prefer the Force to the Zeus in the Discraft lineup. The Zeus is toted as Discraft's answer to the Destroyer, and has been very successful for many players. I would classify myself as between intermediate and advanced in skill level. Personally, the disc feels grippy and nice to hold but I just cannot get it to work for me like I want it to. I want the disc to be a long distance bomber for me and I can consistently get drives between 350-400' in open space. I have had the disc for over 6 months and the thing is still unbelievably overstable compared to my Force at the same weight (174g), sacrificing a ton of distance with how much it wants to get to the ground. Maybe that is due to the ESP plastic versus the Elite Z, but I would probably only keep this disc in my bag if I need it to replace my overstable Giant. While this is in NO ways a bad disc, it just does not work for me like I want it to

Quite possibly my favorite driver in the bag. Takes a good deal of arm speed and touch but when thrown right it goes. Slightly under stable out of the hand and flips nice and slow for a predictable long drive every time. My go to distance driver for those crush drives

I bought into the hype surrounding this disc and bought a few flat-top Paul McBeth Prototype Zeuses hoping it would be a less-understable bomber replacement for the Force. What I got was a disc that feels too deep to be comfortable to throw for me, and it is about as overstable as Forces I have thrown. The plastic is beautiful and feels amazing, but the hand-feel of the rim just makes this disc unthrowable for me.

I picked the Zeus up hoping for it to complement my Destroyers by being able to get a little more turn out of it. However, after only  a few rounds with it I have pulled it out of my bag. For some reason, this disc just will not stay in the air for me. I throw max maxtance shots up to 450", but this one always topped out below 400, with my Wraiths and Destroyers flying much further. And it's not that the disc is too overstable either, I was getting full S flights out of it, but it just didn't want to glide. Another thing that bothered me about this disc is there doesn't seem to be a single spot on the inside of the rim to grip that doesn't have letters embossed on it, which made it very uncomfortable in my grip.

I wanted to like this disc, but it just wasn't for me.

I love this disc.  It flys like a beat in force.  The ESP plastic is very comfortable to grip, and very durable.  It is overstable enough to have a reliable finish, but bigger arms will be able to flip it up to flat and get some nice S curves out of it.  For beginners, it will be a good hyzer disc.

Very interesting disc. Hated it at first because it was unreliable with my forehand. Now I think its meh. Still bag it for backhand distance shots if there is a headwind, because it seems to be more reliable with my backhand than it does with my forehand. Definitely still a weird disc.

So far, I am very pleased with this disc and can't wait to see what it will be like once it gets broken in! Right out of the box, the Zeus has become one of my further driving disc. Easily rivaling disc that have been broke in. I throw FH and from my experience so far, the disc flights very straight with some small fade at the end. The ESP plastic feels great and is extremely durable. Unfortunately, my Zeus has already skid across the pavement a few times but has had very minimal damage. I will say that the one thing that I have noticed is, this disc can be pretty easy to throw into the ground if your release is off. The first time I threw it I did it. I still occasionally do it but I just have to be more mindful of my release angle. I definitely would recommend this disc to people but the disc is also for the more experienced.

I can't get this disc up to speed BH, but I do throw it FH with good results. Having a very mild dome makes it very comfortable for a FH grip.

This isn't my longest disc. I can get a gold line halo out 30-40ft further, but as the Zeus seasons I think it could catch up to the halo and get there with a tighter line.

Right now I use this when I need max distance but I also need a more reliable stability than my Halos offer. The Zeus touts some impressive distance while also having a reliable finish.

This review is for the Z Zeus. Picked up 4 at worlds and have been throwing one of them the last 4 days.  I am normally a RHBH, but throw FH when needed. The Z Zeus has great stability and allows me throw it with confidence both FH and BH. I have tried both the prototype Zeus(kong) , and the first run Zeus, and I am not a big fan of the ESP plastic on this disc.  I would rate the ESP Zeus a 3.5 and the Z Zeus a 4.5 because it has more stability and what I would consider better grip and a bit more glide. I normally throw c-line PD2s and Z Forces when I am looking for stability, and 4x Destroyers and Corvettes when I need something flippy. I would put the Z Zeus somewhere between those discs.  I think the flight numbers are pretty accurate but I would increase the glide a bit.

    173g ESP Zeus

As frequently stated, this disc flies like a beat in Destroyer out of the box.

The plastic is gummy and grippy, comfortable in the hand with my four finger under - thumb toward top center grip (medium hand size here), seems very true to flight numbers, slightly understable in head wind but fades back dependably, holds fairly stable to overstable in tailwind.  Haven't had much of a chance to forehand this disc, but the field trials I've thrown yielded about 10-15' extra over my Destroyers.

I will be purchasing some in lighter weight plastic for bigger flex lines in the future for bigger flex lines/more distance.

The Zeus is one of the best high speed drivers ever made...because it's basically identical to the best/most popular high speed drivers of all time the Innova Destroyer.

I threw both side by side, and stared at them both for longer than my wife was comfortable with and there is nearly no difference other than the ESP Zeus has a slightly higher dome than the last run of 4x Star Destroyers.

When thrown hard on a flat BH line, it will turn just a bit and then have an accurate reliable fade that uts you where you need to be.

On flat FH lines i was getting these on a slight turn to mild fade line in the 400-415 rage while never having them get more than 15 ft off the ground, which is a useful shot. If I got it a bit higher it would get near 450 on a mild flex line, but since it does want to turn just a bit you can't poser flex it like a super OS disc.

Overall, this is the Discraft Destroyer, and they did a good job making it. ESP plastic looks better than any of their pre 2017 plastics that I remember and it feels really nice.

No trouble recommending these to advanced players that like Discraft or just are big McBeth fans.

The Zeus (formerly known as Kong) is a nice distance driver for bigger arms. I have a medium arm, so it still works pretty well for me, but I don't think I'm achieving it's full potential. It's nice to throw hard and have go straight for a long time, then it fades off at the end. Bigger arms will be able to flip this over and get some nice distance. If I anny it, it'll turn hold for a while, but always come back. I like it for bigger hyzer shots because I know it'll stick right around 320 every time.

The plastic looks and feels beautiful, and you know what they say, the prettier your plastic the further you throw!

I read the reviews here that compared it favorably to a destroyer, and since I wasn't having a lot of luck with my distance drivers (aside from Wriaths) I thought I'd give it a try and jump on the hype train.   I am so glad I did.  I just got back from playing my first round with the 170g kong (now the Zeus).  My distance drivers usually hit somewhere around 400 max and controled fairway drivers going 350ishft at 8/10 power.   I expected the kong to be pretty overstable right out of the package especially since Paul likes to throw overstable discs.  Instead, this is a pinpoint long-distance driver that ends with a long slow fade which extends it's distance.  Right out of the box I put it on a slight hyzer and watched it flip up to flat and carry for an easy 380ft.  I gave it a little more juice (7/10) and got it out to 400ft with the slightest turn and ended 50 feet beyond the point I was aiming for.  Easiest 400 I've ever thrown, and there was no wind.  Thrown flat or with more spin it will turn over and slide back to fade at the end.

The grip on the esp plastic is really nice, and the rim was not too wide for a normal-sized hand.  This disc is awesome.  Will update after a few weeks of use.

An absolutely fantastic disc. I have thrown almost exclusively forehand for my entire disc golf career, and would say I've got above average arm speed from that side. With that said, I can flip this up straight nearly every time, and get a good long flight. I would say that given since this is a 13 speed, if you don't have a fast arm, stay away from this disc.

To compare, I am very new to throwing backhand. From that side, I am yet to get this disc to flip up, but I can still shape some spike hyzer shots with it.

In the end, if you have a fast arm (from either the forehand or backhand side), this is a GREAT disc.

I have heard a lot of people say that the Kong is Discraft's version of the Destroyer, which is partly true, but for me personally, it flies so much better than that. I previously was bagging 4 Destroyers - 1 in color glow, 2 in 175g star and 1 in 170g star - but as soon as I threw the Kong, I took all of those Destroyers out. The Kong manages to fly just slightly better than a Destroyer in every way - I don't have to throw it as hard for the same distance, and when I do throw it hard it goes FAR. It has a slight bit more turn than the Destroyer, allowing me to put it on a greater variety of lines than a fresh out of the box Destroyer, which even beat in I can't do the same kinds of things I can do with the Kong.

The Kong really does go quite a bit further than my Destroyers. With a Destroyer, I would be able to get it to go pretty straight for about 250 feet worth of distance, and then it would really start to hyzer out hard for the last 100-150 feet or so. With the Kong, however, I am able to get nearly 350 feet of straight forwards distance, and then an extra 100 feet of a gentle fade - much less dramatic than the fade you would see from a Destroyer.

Also, on a purely aesthetic point, the Kong is just a beautiful disc. Discraft really hit it out of the park with this mold for the ESP plastic. Definitely the best swirls I have seen in any disc out there. Be like King Kong and get a KONG!

The Zeus is what most players who want to throw the Destroyer can actually throw. It's a little bit flippier and holds a straighter line through the entirety of its flight. It's roughly the same speed as well. The domier Zeus' are very Destroyer-like, as they have a little bit more stability. However, the flatter Zeus' are great for forehands and flip up a lot more. Zeus' also don't feature as much fade as a usual distance driver, which makes it ideal for super long woods shots. The Swirly ESP plastic does scratch easily, but it still looks really nice and beats in slow. I think this disc could eventually take over the slot of the Destroyer as the distance driver all amateurs try to work their way up to throwing.

I wouldn't put this in a beginner's hand, but it is not the most overstable disc I've thrown. This disc is great for long hyzers. When thrown with some anny, you can get a nice long flight before the disc dumps (predictably). Much better to me than the Destroyer. The numbers are the same, the flight is not. Try one out.

I picked up one of these just to try it out the new Paul McBeth disc and so far I am very pleasantly surprised. I have tried throwing Destroyers in the past and have never liked them. Being that the flight path on this is supposed to be very similar I was not very optimistic. For me this is fairly overstable but not as much as a Destroyer. I typically throw a little over 300 and would think that with lower arm speeds this disc might be a little too overstable. Currently this disc is my go to for headwind drives.

I was excited to review the Kong due to all the hype on Facebook. When I opened the box there were three swirly Kongs. My first thought was, "Is this McBeth’s the replacement for the Destroyer?" So I took it out to the field expecting it to be extremely over stable like all the other high-speed drivers these companies are making today. I was pleasantly surprised by how thrower friendly it was right out of the box. With my first throw I was able to get it to flatten up and fly like a disc I’ve had for many years. It is clearly a high-speed disc and it skips pretty hard. Overall I would say this is a mid stable high-speed disc that is good for most skill levels. I think this is a great addition to the Discraft arsenal and I really like this new plastic that they put it in. So if you’re looking for a little distance, the Kong will be a great choice for the every day player to be king of the course.

My crew reviewed the new Discraft Kong and it was a much better disc than I expected. Everyone knows, this disc has the same flight numbers as the Innova Destroyer... but does it fly the same? In my opinion? No! This thing seems quite a bit more glidey to me with more turn and less fade. I was able to get a lot more distance out of the Kong than I thought I ever would. As you see in my review header, I am an intermediate player so I wasn't expecting to be able to do much with this. That was definitely not the case. Thrown flat, this thing just flew straight for quite some time before it faded out. I am able to get this thing out to around 300' just throwing it flat. Now, brand new, it didn't turn for me when I threw it flat but after it's beat in some, I really believe it would. When I threw the Kong with anny, it would turn quite a bit before it would eventually stable up. If you are looking for a Destroyer type disc... skip this one but if you are looking for something that could potentially add some distance to your drives and still finish with fade, this is the disc for you! If you want to see this disc being thrown, check out my crews review of the Kong in the video below...

Love this disc. Flies true to the flight numbers and wow does this thing skip! Nearly got two skip aces today. Sweet ride, get one!

I have no idea what kind of magic they put into this disc, but my Destroyers cannot keep up with it. I still love the feel and control that I have with the Destroyers, so I will continue to use them, but the Kong let's out my full potential in each drive. I could not be more happy with the results, and will probably be adding more to my lineup as my control improves.

Oooooooooooohhhhhhh boy!!! Finally here and worth the wait! I was so upset when I fell asleep the night these were released only to wake up a see they were all sold out:( Very fortunately we had a vendor at the tournament I played that weekend and I picked one up from him:) I was pretty much sold after the first throw, threw it 350+ on a hyzer. Normally my drives max out around 400, and only about 300 for big hyzers. I've gotten a couple sweet ones out close to the 500 mark but not many. Either way this disc just flew beautifully, wicked fast flyer, noticeably faster than all my other 12 speed drivers. I'd have to say it's closer to a 13 speed that can be thrown with 12 speed power. So as soon as infinite restocked, I made sure to order a backup;) Oh yeah this disc has a nice spot in my bag and will mostly replace my crank as my main stable driver. For drivers I currently bag 2 Thrashers for understable, 2 cranks and 2 kongs for stable, and a punisher and a force for overstable. The kong has been coming out more and more as I get more used to it. If you've got enough arm for it, try it out, it's a beast!

    Feel

I threw two Kongs, a 174g stiff ESP with moderate dome and a 168g flat-top with more flex. They flew the same for me. Like a faster Destroyer.

BH: Straight with strong hyzer at low speed. Decent glide for an OS disc.

FH: the perform well FH with slight turn and good LS fade with decent skip.

Look: oh boy, the swirly ESP is second to none!

Great disc.  Brand new its similar to a seasoned Star Destroyer.  With good power you can get some high speed turn, but I am excited when I get it broken in because i think it will be an absolute bomber, maybe even kick the nuke out of my bag. Overall great feeling and awesome flying disc. Would definitely recommend to anyone who can throw 350' +

This disc bombs! It IS a very similar to a flippy destroyer - like a way faster pro-destroyer (almost identical flight path). If you can consistently throw it flat, and if thrown hard enough, it gets quite a bit of high speed turn before fading out left (rhbh). I typically get 375 - 400 feet out of a well beaten in destroyer and I'm getting that out of this disc right out of the box. The rim is noticably shallow, but other than that it's almost identical to a destroyer. I did buy some the of the new Ricky destroyers, and though those fly extremely well, this disc is definitely making my bag. Some guys I've spoke with like it for flicks but I haven't had enough playing time to say how well it went for me. The ESP plastic looks amazing and is moderately grippy, but not like other Discraft discs where it's comparable to Innova's star plastic. The 4 kongs I've bought are EXTREMELY "shiny" where I think it makes it not as tacky-ish if that makes any sense. I'm sure after more rounds they'll beat in and have more grip to them. If you were on the fence about buying one (or 5) trust me, the hype is real, the wait was worth it. Get some! And the best thing about buying on Infinite is you pick your exact disc/color!

I have 2 174 Prototype Kongs, and they are incredibly fast out of the hand. I have used both for long powered up forehands as well as big gliding hyzer shots. For ESP plastic, they have some big skip to them, especially when given a slight nose up angle when thrown relatively hard. After 2 weeks of pure use, these discs have replaced some older overstable Star Destroyer's I've had and haven't noticed a big difference.

This run of the Kong has flight characteristics between a Defender and a Destroyer. It flies straight with little turn like a Destroyer, but it has a bigger skip like a Defender and it seems to get to its destination more like a Defender as well.

In order to get any turn, this disc has to have its necessary speed behind it. Thus, I would not recommend this disc for beginners. However, whether adding it to a Paul McBeth collection or wanting to add this disc to your distance driver arsenal, this disc has good use!

Wow, this disc is amazing. Looks incredible, flies even better. It’s basically a beat in glidier destroyer. The swirls are just stunning.

It feels better than any distance driver I’ve ever felt. Right out of the box it out drove my beat in Opto Glaladiator and my beat in S-Line PD2. Very predictable. So much glide and forward push for an overstable driver. It doesn’t just dump like other distance drivers do, it pushes forward an extra 10 feet if not more. Definitely gonna make this my go to distance driver and once it beats in, it’ll absolutely bomb.

For a beginner,  it’ll be a good head wind disc.

For me, I’ve been playing for about 3 years and can throw upper 400’s, it’s a super glidey and great overstable bomber.

What can I say, the Swirly ESP Kong is a prettier version of the Innova Destroyer in Discraft plastic. We know how much Paul McBeth relied on Destroyers, and it looks like he wanted to make sure he had a very similar disc. The Kong is very similar to the Detroyer, in shape, appearance, feel and flight.

I compared a 172g swirly Kong side by side with several Destroyer molds. The bottom mold and rim has no noticeable differences I was able to discern with the naked eye. The top mold is a little different as the Kong has a slight variance in the slope rate about 2cm from the edge of the rim before it starts to really dome to the flight plate that the Destroyer does not have.

The Kong I tested has a fairly flat top (well not flat, but it wasn't as domey as the Destroyers I was testing it against) and was true to the flight ratings. It is an excellent disc for forehand throws for me and a consistently overstable disc that will not experience any high speed turn at all for my backhand throws. All in all, it flys a lot like a Star Destroyer.

If you are a fan of Paul Mcbeth, Destroyers, really pretty discs, or discs that will likely increase in value over the years, then you'll want to try out the PM Discraft Kong.
