The LU or LUAN is a wide-rimmed, high-speed driver designed to be a bomber for intermediate and experienced players. With slight understability upon release and a predictable, prominent fade, it will draw a beautiful S-curve through the sky as it maximizes your distance potential.

I tested the Phoenix Star Luan at 174g. I have a slower arm so even though I throw higher speed drivers, they are all light. This disc did exactly what I expected a max-weight, high-speed driver to do. After about 175 feet the disc made a sharp left turn and kept turning as it dropped out of the sky. I got maybe 225 feet out of the disc. I would like to try a low 160's disc. I can see someone with a faster arm getting a little turn out of the disc. Or maybe a flick shot. As for the plastic, it is definitely soft. If you're used to throwing Champ or Star (or the equivalent), you may find the Phoenix Star too soft. If you throw GStar, the PS will be a good fit. I throw a couple GStar discs, so I was fine with the softness.

Overall, I gave the disc four stars because you need to be a certain skill level to be able to throw the disc with any form. If you can hit 400 feet on your drive and are used to softer discs, you would do well to check out the Luan.

The Lu is a great high speed driver. The mold feels great in the hand and the plastic is a little soft. I wouldn't recommend this driver to beginners just because it is a very high speed driver. I was able to get this driver quite far with a reliable fade at the end of its flight. When I gave it lots of anhyzer, the Lu held the turnover line for 70% of its flight but then it fought out of it. I would compare this driver to a beat in Star Boss.

I really like the Yikun Lu for forehand drives. You can say what you want about the Chinese plastic, but in my opinion this is as good as anything on the market. It feels good and is very durable.

Flightwise I'd compare the Lu to an overstable Destroyer. This thing is stable and will always fade hard at the end of the flight but it glides well and stays straight for a while before the big end of flight fade. The Lu isn't necessarily better than other overstable high speed drivers, but I would be very confident bagging this disc.

The Lu is a long distance, overstable driver. It reminds me of a Defender. The plastic feels very good, better than I remember most Yikun discs feeling. Almost reminds me of a Discraft Z plastic. The rim is thick, but not unmanagable, it's typical for a high speed driver.

This thing definitely fades! I was only getting it about 300 feet due to it just fading out fast and hard. If I put it on a huge sky anny it would hold longer, but still dump off at the end. The anny will get you more distance, but you're not gonna turn it over into the ground.

For me this disc doesn't have a ton of use... I have a Defender that I'd use for the same shot, so it's nothing ground breakingly new for me. However, it is a lovely addition to the Yikun lineup, so there is that.

Great disc! Just don't know if it'll kick anything out of the bag.

First of all, I liked the feel of this Phoenix Line plastic on this run of Lu drivers. It is durable plastic, but flexible, like Innova's Gummy Champion, or Discraft's Z FLX plastic. I tend to like plastics that aren't rock-hard when it comes to distance drivers.

The rim width and feel of the Lu made me expect it to fly something like an Innova Boss, and honestly I don't think that expectation was far off. It might be slightly more understable than a Boss, but still has some nice fade at the end. When thrown with a lot of power, it can trace a huge s-curve across the sky and go for some real good distance. I found myself releasing it with an anhyzer, which I usually do when ripping a driver as hard as I can, and I loved the results as it managed to fade back at the end of flight for a balanced journey. I'd say the finish was slightly overstable (not overly so), but given the flight numbers, I'd expect that.

I'd say that the Lu is a solid distance driver for intermediate and experienced players. It may fly a bit different for you, depending on your throwing style, but for my slightly anhyzer backhand release, it was a great disc and one that I would love to throw some more in the future.  It is a bit high-speed for beginners, so I would not recommend it as a good disc to use while learning. Wait until you've got your power built up, then go ahead and give it a try.
