When the wind is up and you need an overstable midrange, look no further than the Anvil. The Anvil has good speed for a midrange with even more overstability than the Bard. One might consider this to be a beadless Justice with just a little more glide.

Excellent OS midrange that I can throw BH and FH.  A MF Gator used to fill this slot for me but never really had success with the release on a FH - that big bead would come off the hand wrong causing torque - not an issue with the Anvil.  My issue, not the Gator's, but why why beat my head against a wall?

Get out of jail?  Insane headwinds?  Touch approaches that need beef?  Flex short, tight lines in the woods?  It covers it all, both BH and FH.  Can't go wrong here.

The anvil has been in my bag for a long time now. I've tried th VIP, Hybrid and now currently throwing tournament burst. It is extremely consistent, comfortable and a bit faster than the number suggests. I mostly use it for forehand approaches but it also great for backhands into a headwind. I think it is a great compliment to the harp, being a little longer and a little more OS. definitely a great option for the really OS mid spot in anyones bag.

My anvil has become one of my favorite discs lately. I got it because I wanted something similar to a Zone but with more speed. It flies beautiful flex lines and has a very strong fade. It's very reliable and easy to be relatively accurate with.

The Tournament Burst Anvil is exactly as it is advertised: Overstable. It is a staple in my bag as I know that I can depend on that hard, early fade for upshots and any wind.

The disc itself in the Tounament Burst plastic was deceptively domey, but comfortable in hand. The plastic has great grip, and can withstand collisions with trees and the like. If you're looking for an overstable midrange, and don't like beads, then try out the Anvil.

The Anvil is an overstable Meathook of a Midrange, the "2" Glide is accurate as it will begin to fade shortly after release. The best and most important feature of this disc is just how easily it Skips.

I originally got one to replace a Gator since i wanted a Beadless overstable mid, however where the Gator sits, the Anvil skips.

In the Heavily-Wooded PNW, this disc is perfect for getting out of trouble and getting some extra meters with adding extra Skip Fade.

So, everyone has their favorite meathook/super overstable, get out of jail shot disc.  The Anvil is mine. It has almost no glide which is perfect for so many shots. Its so overstable that it becomes the most predictable disc in my bag, perfect for flexshots at short distance about 150ft or so and under. I use this disc for skip shots to wrap around tight trees on approach. It flicks super easy and will absolutely take any power you can muster without a single drop of turn.

175g Tounament Burst Anvil.  No deliberation necessary—an easy 5-stars.

The Anvil is a super effective overstable modrange. The Anvil is beadless, unlike many popular super overstable midranges, so you get a nice clean release every time. Because of this, forehands are oh-so-smooth and sexy. You never have to worry about shanking another sidearm due to a bead latching onto the folds of your palms and fingers. Backhands are also beautiful to watch with this disc. It always has a reliable hard fade. Perfect for getting around obstacles.

Also, because it’s beadless, you can get some impressive skip action with the disc, which is optimal considering this gives you extra options for getting around obstacles. However, you can still get the Anvil to sit down, if you want, by hyzer-bombing it into the ground.

I can’t speak loudly about the effectiveness of the Anvil for flexing shots because I only use it as a meathook. I’ve read a couple reviews about it that it turns over without flexing. I would suppose that’s due to the Anvil’s low glide. If you want a more flexible disc, I’d recommend getting a meathook with higher glide — perhaps something like a Drone.

You want a midrange with a super hard fade? You want a clean release for both backhand and forehand? Impressive skips? Anvil has you covered.

Right now, I carry a VIP Sparkle and Tournament Burst (in addition to a Moonshine Justice, Fluid Slammer, and Blend Slammer - I like overstable approach discs). They all do different things for me. The Anvil to me is if the Justice and Slammer had a child. The Justice is just indescribable in its role. No other disc dumps as hard as it does, not even the Anvil. The Slammer doesn't go as far as the Anvil, so that's one of the things I use the Anvil for - overstable approaches that if I throw the Slammer hard enough to reach the distance, it won't fade enough to get to the pin. The Anvil also gets a great line for me on forehand anhyzers. The Buzzz OS was the last non-trilogy disc in my bag for a long time because it was the only disc that wouldn't fade out or cut roll on that shot. I can get the Slammer to do softer angles on that shot (which took the Buzzz OS out), but if I need a harder angle, I throw the Anvil because it fades to the point where the disc lands completely flat on the ground and slides, not rolls. If Anvils ever come out in BT medium and soft plastics, the Slammer would be in serious danger of removal. I never compared it directly to a Harp because the Slammer kicked the Harp out of my bag.

GREAT disc. OS, for sure, but not unusable like some. FH approaches, YES, Spike Hyzers, YES, wind shots, YES, FH rollers, YES. A go-to disc for sure. The sparkle VIP is more OS than the Tournament. The regular VIP is the least OS. Tournament has a little more glide.

This is one of my favorite discs. I love this for forehand approach shots. I can always count on it to go where I want, and it usually sticks where it lands. My favorite shot with this disc is a RHFH force over flex anhyzer. It's beautiful to see how dramatically it curves left then right with this throw. I usually throw a tournament special blend, as well as a 1st run VIP. The tournament has a flatter top, and seems slightly more overstable. The VIP has a slight dome to it. I prefer these in higher weights, but since it's a smaller diameter than most midranges, I think max weight is 175 or so. I could be wrong about that last part.

Love this disc! It is very overstable not as much as a justice per say but that could also be my anvil. Mine is a special edition in tournament burst. When I got it the guys at the shop said it wasn't as overstable as the first runs or the justice. But it is still a great disc, I find myself using this more and more for those overstable shots and when I need more accuracy as it doesn't have a ton of glide to get away from you. You get what you put in it on the throw. I've thrown this off of the tee before when I need placement in tight areas and it does what its suppose to do. Love the flat top feel to it, the diameter of the rim is great also. If your needing a overstable mid without a ton of glide, you owe it to yourself to check this disc out.

tournament burst is my favorite plastic for this mold.

Board flat, unlike the vip, and with less dump.

the best way i can describe it is that the vip is too stable(dumps) and the tournament is just stable enough(fades)

Low profile and feels nice in my hand.

The slim profile on this disc allows for the feel of a driver more than the feel of a frisbee that some people can have with discs that have beads. Anytime that I have an approach that is either wide open, or one that needs a stable finish I ALWAYS reach for my Anvil. You won't have to worry about this disc turning over ever, but it also won't fall completely out of the air like how a gator does. If you want to throw this disc backhand, I would not recommend it for beginners, but the fact that it is stable and a slim profile at a slow speed allows for this disc to be a great disc for beginners to get to learn the form of a forehand.

Send those Gators packing and back to the swamps folks!

The anvil is the new gold standard in overstable approach mid-ranges is here.

    • Massively Overstable
    • Small Diameter
    • Great Feel for Backhand/Forehand
    • Low glide for accuracy

When I first purchased the First Run Westside Discs Anvil, VIP plastic I was a little concerned that there would be some overlap in my bag. I was bagging the DGA Breaker for approaches, and the DGA Quake for an overstable-mid.  There ended up being almost no overlap.

This thing is far far more overstable than the Breaker, and Quake. Yet is easier to place than the Quake because it has less glide.

I then purchased the Tournament-X Burst Special Edition Anvil, and wow. This thing is even more overstable and has even less glide. The VIP Anvil had a little bit of a dome near the middle of the disc, but the Tournament-X Burst was as flat as a board on top.

The Anvil has an awesome beadless rim on it. It releases perfectly from my hand backhand and forehand. I can throw short flexes, where I don't want a skip from a driver, and my Breakers just don't have the stability to flex all the way back. I can backhand this disc around obstacles. Great disc for requiring a good forehand straight and then diving to the right(RHFH) Or a backhand where you know you can't go long.

Most players usually only carry 1 copy of their utility discs. However this disc is so great I could see someone carrying a more domey glidey version, and a flat meathook beast and use them both in every round.
