I switched to this bag at the beginning of this season and have zero regrets. Amazing amounts of storage, great feel and has lasted through a busy season.
I have managed to fit 20 discs in the main compartment, 6 putters in the top compartment and 5 drivers in the water bladder compartment. Totally excessive, but I love options during tournaments.
I carry 4 towels and a package of beef jerkey in the top compartment with no problem next to the putters. This keeps me prepared for anything so I don't have to worry about packing prior to leaving. Having the side storage for my range finder, keys and minis is also helpful.
This bag will occasionally dig into the top of my tailbone (I'm 5'9") but if I keep the straps tight then it's not an issue. The only main problem is that the bag tips over a lot since it's such a rectangular shape, but it's worth it to have this bag. Great long lasting quality, amazing comfort. Back padding and padded straps are a life saver, I recommend this bag to anyone looking for cart storage with a backpack.
Some context...
I started with a Grip CS2, which I grew to really like (after bowing out the side walls). However, it just didn't have enough storage and I always felt the capacity was 2-3 discs short of what I'd prefer to carry.
I started doing my search and after seeing the BX2/AX4 in person I was looking for something that sat right in the middle in terms of overall size/portability. This bag accomplished that, a large deciding factor for me was the top canopy storage. I can fit a small cooler in there with a few beers that stay cold all day. Which keep the weight distro center over the straps and out of the other compartments.
Personally not the biggest fan of the giant DD logo on the bag, if I'd have one change it'd be for that to get cut with velcro (similar to Grip) installed for customization. The cell phone pocket could be bigger. They are probably better off just having larger upper pockets on either side. I'm really stretching though here to find a complaint.
Bag is comfortable, almost more so than the Grip. I do have an Upper Park Shift for lighter rounds. Hard to beat the comfort I have with this bag, but the DD is close.
I really wanted to like this bag and really only had one complaint, it just happened to be big enough to return it.
Firstly, I want to say that this is a high-quality bag. It has an immense amount of storage for discs and the pocket on the top can be used for a jacket and snacks. You know, the important things. The material is well made and the straps were comfortable and not too over-bearing like on other bags.
Secondly, I should mention I'm a short guy standing at 5'7" and one of the features of this bag is a somewhat hard-shelled back. It's got a fair amount of cushion but it just didn't fit right. More specifically, because this is a taller bag, the bottom of the bag rests on top of my butt—and it's a pretty hard edge. Being a skinny short guy, this bag just didn't fit comfortably.
I should also mention that, because it wasn't comfortable to wear, I never tried it out on a course. All I can really comment on is the quality of the feel, which is high.
This bag is pretty sweet. What can you expect from the beloved DD Ranger. This really is quite the improvement on the OG.
The main disc compartment for this bag is awesome! I was able to fit 19 discs into it, and still grab any disc with ease. I also like the height of the this bag, as my discs don't rub against the top portion while pulling them out. I think that the double water bottle pouch is sweet, I do like that one is smaller than the other. These are sweet as it fits my 32oz bottle, and it'll fit a smaller sized bottle more snuggly as well. With the narrower bottle pouch, it will hold a 20oz soda bottle nicely. The increased room on the side putter pouch is real nice, now it is much easier to pull my putters out of it, or just one. An extremely nice improvement. The top compartment for extras stuff is really great. I was able to put my light jacket up there easily and still have room for other things. I liked that they put a smaller mesh pocket in there, as it will holds my phone, wallet, and keys all the while making them easily accessible while my jacket is in there taking up most the space.
There is only one thing that I don't like about this bag, I put it on and I feel like I'm wearing a box on my back.
The improved pads on this bag are pretty comfortable too. At first they feel a little funky, but once they settle in, they are comfortable. The design of them really do allow for more airflow along my back. These pads are thick, which makes me believe that they will last a long while. There is a bladder pouch on this backpack up by the top compartment. I tried to put my CamelBak LR's bladder into it, but it didn't fit in there. However, this is a 3 liter bladder and it is more wide than tall - its a different than normal bladder. I'm sure that a taller 2 liter bladder would fit in it. For the time being though, I put a disc up there. I thought I would notice the disc in the pouch while wearing. However, I didn't even notice it was there. So a pretty sweet spot to add a disc or two.
Overall, definitely worth the money, and I would recommend this back to anyone who wanted a bag that can hold 20-25 discs, jacket, drinks, and other course necessities.
