Great hyzer flip disc for 430-450ft straight to understable lines.

Its a fun learning curve disc. If you throw backhand you amost have to throw with the disc straight Up and down so it corrects itself and goes far. But Its a great disc to mess around and have fun with and its great when you throw down hills. It goes hard left like hard left.

Plasma, 173 gram disc.  This is my open fairway, can-throw-as-hard-as-I-want-to driver.  I have a fine but not exceptional arm, and primarily throw this disc forehand.  When I give it the business, it really can make a nice S, otherwise it goes mostly straight.  In both circumstances, it tends to fade "forward" as opposed to just falling off, which I like.

There is a requisite arm strength you need to have to make it do pretty things.  I'm not Joe Montana, but it works for me; that said a beginner is not going to get the posted numbers.  That's generally true for most high-speed discs though.

The octane is a reliable driver for any intermediate to advanced player. I typically throw 280-300 and this disc does the same thing every time for me. Just a little turn with a headwind and a nice hyzer finish. Thrown without wind the disc flies straight and then finishes left. I have a slower arm speed but I have noticed when I get a good throw it will turn slightly without wind. I would liken this to a champion boss or a destroyer.

Not a bad disc but I prefer the Teleport. Octane seems to have a consistent but light turn and a harder fade. Pulled from my bag when I got the Teleport.

I have found the Octane to be the most consistent max distance driver from MVP. I currently bag three (1 Eclipse, 2 Plasma) and trust their flight every time I throw them. For shots 420ft-460ft I grab this mold. Anything longer, with room, I reach for the Excite.

Try this combo for a complete max range bag: Panic --> Octane --> Excite.

If you read nothing else, this is the best max distance driver for medium arms. Do yourself a favor and try one.

Feel/Plastic: The Octane has a wide rim, deserving of its 13 speed status. For me, the rim is comfortable, while the speed 14 Teleport rim is too much (and I have long fingers). Octanes tend to be fairly domey, which gives awesome glide. The feel is pretty much in line with other 12-13 speed drivers out there. MVP Plasma is one of the best plastics out there--it's grippy just a little bit gummy. If you like stiffer discs, go with Neutron. All MVP discs are insanely durable.

Flight: This is where the Octane excels. I drive 375-425 and bag all varieties of Destroyers--Star for OS shots, Pro for straight to flippy shots. It's hard to find Destroyers in the sweet-spot that will get a long, gentle high speed turn that maximizes distance without threatening to flip over. Well, the Octane hits that sweet spot out of the box, and it also has superior glide. There is one 475' hole on my home course where I can usually push my Destroyers to 350-75' reliably, but lately I've been throwing the Octane and hitting the 400-425 range. It will get more of an S-curve into wind, but won't flip over.

Overall, this is an awesome distance driver. If you get intermediate level distance, try this one out. It will outfly Destroyers and is more reliable than Shrykes/DDXs.

5/5 - Dream disc, fo sho!!!

    I typically throw:

150-167g distance drivers like the Katana, Wave, Enforcer and Insanity

160-174g control drivers like the Beast, Falchion, Avenger, Amp and Crave

170-180g midrange like the Matrix, Mako3, Fuse, Comet and Fugitive

169-174g putters like the Proxy, Caltrop, Gumbputt and Atom

...so a 167 Plasma or Neutron Octane nails the sweet spot in speed, stability, glide, distance and fade for me.

If you’re branching out from Innova, this is a lot like a longer Beast. It’s got a thick rim that feels right in larger hands, and it’s really, really nice (i.e.: forgiving) when thrown forehand. I typically throw backhand, so my forehand game is weaker...the Octane flies better for me forehand though—can’t really figure that one out.

Get this if you catch yourself throwing nose-up a lot. I’ve learned a ton from throwing this disc and it skims really flat and far just feet off the ground. Also get this if you need a gentle curve under a low ceiling of tree branches. Also get this if you want to feel like a badass and launch a disc that sails for a friggin minute from atop a hill on a calm to breezy sort of day. Don’t get this if you’re still struggling to get anything below a 10 speed out past 300’, though...but maybe tack it up on the dream board for sooner, rather than later. ;)

A perfect compliment to the MAyhem. I use this disc to get out deep and finish with a easy fade. Forehand or Backhand the rim is very comfortable. For some reason i find sometimes this will fly further than my Mayhem so it is a bomber.

I Love this disc. MVP found its golden goose with this mold, a wonderfully stable high speed driver for max distance, and great shot shaping. This is the a disc that can get mega distance, as well as be used for flex lines.

I own weights from 165-Max and they are consistent in every mold. Plasma has more late fade, but some high speed turn, where the light has a ton of high speed turn but consistently fades back to center.

This disc is great for someone looking to find a Destroyer/Trespass/Sword/Crank replacement.

I have a 167 Plasma "FX" that looks more like Proton than Plasma, that I use RHBH. I use the Axiom Mayhem as my main distance driver, with the Octan slotting in between that and my Panic to complete a distance driver lineup that covers every line, and feels so consistent in between molds you can't even tell in the hand that they're different. My Plasma Octane is actually fairly stable, and I generally use it for mild-moderate headwinds. If I crank on it without a headwind it gets me to about 350-380 on a good rip and just goes straight with a nice penetrating fade at the end. Into a headwind it will give me a nice little S-turn and still fight back. At 23mm the rim is on the wider side and may not be comfortable for everyone, but it fits my perfectly. With a noticeable amount of dome it is great for backhand shots, but people may not be wild about it for forehand throws. If you're into the GYRO stuff (even if you're not) and looking to try a new distance driver, definitely give one a shot, you won't regret it!

This is probably my furthest flying disc, maxing out around 350' for me. If thrown on a slight hyzer it will flip up and fly dead straight with a good fade at the end, thrown flat it will get ride a nice Flex line. I have yet to have this disc turn all the way over on me, and for that I can depend on it from almost any tee. Handles head winds well.
