I was able to get a few decent flights out of this disc to be sure, but I could never get it to turn anywhere near the -4 figure. My experience has been that most champion plastic discs are more stable than their numbers, but I still expected some real turn out of the disc. The groove on the underside of the rim never really bothered me.

This disc exactly what its designed to do FLIP.  Its a great hyzer flip disc. Thrown on hyzer it flips up rides straight and finishes with a little turn.  It does not like the wind, if thrown in the wind it will flip up and keep rolling to the right just be cautious in windy conditions.  personally I like it because it does not take a ton of power to get it to GO.  Its very easy to get it out to 300+ on a hyzer flip, many times you will overthrow your basket.  The players who hate on this disc are more power players than finesse players it does not perform well if you try to overpower it, it will become a roller.  Thrown flat it will begin to turn early so expect this type of flight from it.  If you need a longer turn look for a Roadrunner or Mamba.  If thrown forehand it will flip up and ride straight for a long ride then finish right.  IF thrown on anny on FH it wont come back in my experience.  Don't Hate it till you try it.

This is a rather strange disc, that somehow at least does what it's intended to do in the right hands. I don't think I will ever understand why they would ever add that lip under the rim, but it doesn't seem to do much. As for the flight, it does seem to be a nice consistent turnover driver, but I think it requires some finesse to really make good flex lines out of it. The slightest offset of your angle will not give you the flight you desire. With patience, this disc will work for you. Otherwise, I would venture elsewhere.

I started playing about a year ago and initially had a Monarch in my bag. It was lost, tragically, as most of my discs are at one point or another. Really, though, it was for the best, I was not ready for a good distance driver at that time.

Since then, I have improved my technique and thought it would be good to give this disc another go. I stinking love it! My first throw on it gave me, honestly, 100 extra feet off the tee pad. This disc has a reliable turn and fade and just cuts through the wind like a hot knife through butter. It wouldn't be my first recommendation for a new player, but if you're looking to add some distance to your game, this is my go-to recommendation.

My friend has a Monarch that rarely has any more turn than -2, but mine will always turn to about -3 and fade back just like its supposed to. This was my first disc to get over the 300' mark. Although some say that the groove bothers them, I throw forehand and backhand and never notice it.

An understable disc that is good for rollers. It is a very good disc for people who can't throw past 100 ft.

Very good out of the box hyzer flip or roller disc. There's a groove in the rim that isn't noticeable to touch unless you throw it forehand in which case it feels kinda nice. They are one of the most fresh understable discs you can get but they aren't squirrly, it's more like a beat in sidewinder. They are predictably understable. I will say that these flight characteristics are for those with sufficient power, if you have less power, this could be a nice straight max distance driver for you.

This is a fast understable distance driver from Innova. It was an OK disc for me to throw many years ago when I had it. Overall I didn't particularly care for the feel and a similar flying disc I like a lot which is the Roadrunner. The Monarch had some flashing on the bottom or sharper edge which I later found out could be sanded down. But I think it's a bit more unpredictable as well. I also think the Mamba is a little better disc which is 1 speed faster.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what these grooves in the rims add to the discs. They aren't uncomfortable, but they also are different. This disc was real flippy for me and pretty touchy. There was a thin line between throwler and anhyzer for me. This disc lacked the consistency that I look for in flight, but I could see some players really liking the flight if they don't have a ton of power.

I just got back from using my Monarch for the first time. I absolutely love it! I used it to drive on 8 of the 9 holes on the course and shot my best round ever!

The disc has a gentle curve in flight and doesn't crash right at the end. It just drifted a bit right but stayed pretty much straight all the way down the fairway. It just seemed to fit perfect with my sidearm release.

    My new favorite driver.

I was given this disc as my first driver when I started playing, driving strictly (right hand) forehand I didn't care for this disc. I could never get it to fly straight without turning over and diving left. I kept it in my bag for thumber shots and moved onto the destroyer, wraith and beast as go to driver's. After a year of playing consistently 1-3 times a week I picked this back up and thought I'd give it a try throwing forehand. Great decision! Release on a slight hyzer and this thing will S and flatten out with a nice soft fade back to the right. When thrown right this will fly further than any of my other distance driver's. If you take the time to learn how to throw this disc you will not be disappointed!

    This disc is an enigma.

I bought this disc in 2008 when i was a forehand dominant player, I knew nothing about discs.  But i love this disc beyond words for forehand s curve drives.  I would rip this thing on the longest s curves and impress all of the casual players with me.

I have literally never thrown it backhand.  Only forehand.  The groove on the rim never bothered me, never noticed it was there while throwing.

The numbers are not indicative of the flight at first.  I would say a turn of -2, fade of 1.5-2.  But my 10 year old champion monarch reflects the numbers as listed.

If you have the chance to try one, try it, just go into it knowing you may hate everything about this disc.  I throw both monarchs and sonics, two of the most hated innova discs.  So my word may be skewed.

It is a slightly slower version of the Mamba. To call it a smaller brother is not quite accurate, its more like a twin brother that came out a minute later, technically its a smaller brother but not by much. Very similar flight patter to the mamba, very US with nice glide. Great for beginners and later on for hyzer flips/turn overs and rollers.

I'm impressed by some of the hate expressed for this disc. I throw forehand primarily and my fingers never touch the groove so I don't see how that matters. What matters is the flight relative to the flight numbers. I bought a used disc at 168g in Champion. At -4 and 1, I expected to hyzer flip right away. My first throw was released flat and it was an absolutel screamer with a very slight anhyzer - lovely. Since then, I have struggled to understand how to release this for a consistent flight line. It holds an anhyzer release, which is useful. But released on a hyzer it will sometimes flip, sometimes not. I tend to blame myself, but reading these other reviews I'm not so sure.

This disc was better than i thought it would be for me.  Looking at reviews and the flight numbers, I expected a less consistent, flippy disc, but what I got was a neat looking x-out that handles like a faster Valkyrie.  Definitely more stable than expected, and although I haven't dialed in with it completely, I have some holes at my local course that this thing gets pin-deep on almost every time I throw it ( just end up 40-60 feet off left or right, which isn't bad considering that its new to me and I play in the wind a lot).  I typically don't bag many discs between spd8-11, but this one earned its way in quicker than most new discs I try out.

Interesting disc. I'm definitely not a fan of the groove on the underside of the rim, it doesn't feel well coming out of my hands. If you don't mind that, I think that this is a pretty decent disc. It doesn't seem to be QUITE as understable as it is listed, but it's definitely got a healthy amount of turn out of it.

I have owned a handful of Monarchs and currently have 3 in my bag, as it is my go to driver in most situations. A new disc will not turn as advertised and is more of a -2 than a -4. After a bit of use the disc will begin to really do what you want it to. After break in, the Monarch can be released with a very severe hyzer with a 90%+ throw and it levels out perfectly with a nearly straight flight. I recommend this disc to anyone looking to play disc golf and would recommend intermediate to advanced players to let this disc break in a little bit before giving up on it.

In a separate review I told of how I bought a bag of used discs when I first started playing. Among those was a Champion Monarch. After losing my Pro Katana, I briefly used this as a replacement. I could never figure out how to throw the Monarch. It seemed to have a mind of its own. One throw would fade immediately, the next would turn over just as fast. I eventually parked it in the top of a tree, and this was the first disc I never bothered trying to recover. As far as I know, it still decorates the tip top of a tree on the 12th hole of my favorite local course. Good riddance. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one.

The Monarch is the baby version of the Groove. It should not exist most likely, and yet there it is. The disc has a similar groove in the rim to that of the Groove, just with a smaller rim. It doesn't feel right in the hand.

The flight of the Monarch is is great for beginners as it has a lot of turn to it. The disc is great for beginners to see the s line throws and will be able to work up from there. I just do not like the disc rim as it is uncomfortable and I think that there are better discs out there for beginners with a very similar flight path

I own the Champion version with a weight of 170 grams. I found this disc in a pond and was plesently surprised on how good of a disc it is. Its a great roller and I imagine its a good forearm disc, though I don't use it for that.

It really turns really well. Its a unique disc in the fact that it has a -4 turn and only a 1 fade which makes it perfect in certian situations.

The only reason why I give it a 4 star review is because of the oddness of the rim. It doesn't feel right and until you really break it in, it leave your hand awkwardly. Other than that, a great disc to have in the bag.

The Groove junior, a beginner marketed disc that stinks for beginners. Also the unwelcome ridge. Two strikes already, but the disc has some merit. Where it's only offered in champ plastic it acts more stable than the numbers. It will hold a straight line and offer some low speed fade. The high speed is what hurts the disc. It's not consistent. Throw it at speed 12 and it burns out and rolls, throw speed 9-10 and it'll steadily go left (RHBH).

I can thread a needle with a champ Beast, but this disc is just a dice roll. As for it being a forehand disc, that's only because the ridge makes it hard to backhand. Forehand it 3 times and you will likely see 3 different results. Like the Groove it is fairly sensitive to up/down angles. I had some epic shots with mine and a bunch of head scratchers.

The Mamba is consistent and understable. The Beast is a predictable shot shaper. The Monarch is the answer to a question I don't think anybody asked.

Let me start by saying that I've only throw this disc for a couple rounds.

I just recently acquired a monarch from my friend because he hated it. I took this as a challenge.

Looking at the flight numbers of this disc, I assumed that if I threw a hyper-flip, it would pop up, glide right, and finish left. When I tried a hyper-flip with ~80% power, it didn’t flip flat and it just turned left until it hit the ground.

I tried releasing it flat with about 80% power, and it just continued straight until it faded left at the end.

After some practice (and a bit of anhyzer), I realized that if you release the disc with the slightest bit of anhyer, it will keep gliding right, and finish a bit to the left (which is very similar to the flight numbers: -4,1).

I use this disc for anything that needs a long right turn. Thats about it, but it has earned a spot in my bag.

The monach was not agreeable for my game for many reasons.  First, the funky groove on the disc is an unwanted addition.  Also the disc seems to have much more fade with less turn than the flight ratings indicate.  I couldn't get a predicable flight from this disc whatsoever.  Wound up giving mine away to a co-worker who could use it better than I could.

Super understable. I have this in champion plastic and can say that this thing will sail with the right throw. A lot of people are saying it doesn't deserve the -4 turn. In my (very limited) experience I think -4 is more or less accurate when I compare to other discs I own.

This has been a solid disc for me. I have it in glow with a tourney stamp, so I don't use it much, but I pull it out for glow rounds and it works nicely as an understable distance driver. Gives a nice tight S and gets good distance. Put a slight hyzer on it, it turns straight and goes right on target. I definately don't have any complaints about this disc.

The Monarch is the most confusing disc I've ever owned. My long-standing (but since broken) personal max distance drive was set with this disc, but I've never come close to duplicating that achievement. I was at a football field testing drives in absolutely no wind, but such a drive has never happened on the course. I've also found this disc to be less understable than advertised, and I see little of the whopping -4 turn boasted in the flight ratings. Kudos to you if you can master the Monarch, but I've found it to be less than spectacular.

I have this disc in glow champion plastic. I really like it. It's still pretty new, but for me, it flies very straight for good distance, then gives me a very consistent fade at the end. I don't have problems with it turning more than I want it to, nor with it overfading. I end up accurate every time that I throw it. The biggest problem I have with this disc is the feel. The double rim style is uncomfortable for me in a backhand, although I hardly notice it when I throw forehand. I have had some release point problems with it in the past, that I attribute to the uncomfortable feel. Otherwise, it is a very good disc.

I like the Monarch and am able to get some really good distance with it. I can't throw most understable discs forehand, my snap makes them flip into the ground, but can throw the Monarch forehand. With a slight anhzyer angle on the release this thing will go the distance. This disc offers great speed and stability for intermediate players.

The Monarch is an interesting disc. The groove is similar to it's big brother the hideous Groove. The Monarch is a unique mold, however, other discs serve the same purpose and perform the task better. The groove in the rim can be irritating the players. In my experience the disc has a tendency to turn and burn very easily. Touchy disc. A excellent alternative is the Roadrunner.
