Staple Utility Driving Putter for Water-Carries. I always bring a Hydra (and a floating Destroyer) with me when I play a water course or a blind course or blind tournament - not for everyday use though. I throw this in place of my Electron Firm Envy when a putter/mid water-carry is involved. The hand-feel is definitely different (hydra is chunkier and rounder than the envy) but I can rip a new one out Flat at my regular putter driving speed and it will fly straight (no turn) and gently hook up left, predictably. Caveat: it's also R-Pro plastic so it can take damage and change stability quickly depending on what you hit (just go listen to Robbie C talk about R-Pro Pigs, similar deal), so I'd fieldtest it each time before using it in a rated round. (for reference my arm speed is 60mph and 12000rpm on a Techdisc Destroyer - but I'm not throwing this putter that hard).

If you play disc golf you should own floating discs. Our waters are polluted with enough plastics leaching toxens into our drinking water. I don't even care if I'm the one who gets the disc back. As long as it doesn't stay in the water.

As far as the disc itself goes. It's a pretty good upshot disc. Not what I tend to look for in a putter, but that's not why I bought it.

I received this disc because of a shipping error but since I liked the feel of the R-Pro plastic and the mold in my hand, I decided to keep it.

After a good amount of use, I still don't trust this disc enough to reach for it during a round. Because of the feal of it, I would never use it as a putting putter but I thought that it would make a good approach disc. I like that it is overstable and I like the feel in the hand. However, I find that the plastic is so stiff and the last bit of the flight doesn't flatten out so I find myself getting some roll aways.

I wouldn't use this disc unless I need a short approach with a lot of hyzer. I find that it is worthless for forehands. In general, I think the Pig does everything this disc does but better besides float.

R-Pro Hydra (175g) - This is such a weird disc, but a lot of fun to use. My parents live on a lake and brothers I all had Hydra's that we would use to play water golf. We would target buoys or rocks or kayaks tied out on the lake and swim out to finish the "hole." We would also use them when we played object golf along the shore of the lake. There are definitely better discs out there for everything else, but none of them float (maybe a handful I guess). It is a very stiff disc and the R-Pro plastic is unlike the other R-Pro discs I have because it seems to have little bubbles throughout (kind of like blizzard plastic almost). I suppose the bubbles help it float. I would describe the shape as similar to a Dart I guess with a somewhat pronounced dome and rim. It is a little more overstable than the Dart though. You could probably use this for other things, but mine is really only reserved for water golf.

This disc has the shape of a putter, but other than that this disc flies and throws just like a mid range. This disc can hold up to a lot of power, and go very far compared to most putter molds. This disc did not seem to glide very well however when inside the circle, and its bulky, stiff, and bouncy plastic does not feel great. For a backhand approach disc this works very well and if you play around a lot of water this disc could save you from losing some other discs.

The Hydra is a really nice throwing putter. It really can hold up to some decent power without flipping, but it can also be worked on a variety of lines. I wasn't a big fan of the R-Pro plastic, but others may like it. Decent thrower, but didn't seem to be great as an inside the circle putter.

Very underrated disc. It is almost identical to the bulldog, which also can float. This disc reminds me of a P2 with a thick rim. It is definitely faster, more overstable, and almost a mid-range. Great for power grips. With a fan grip it doesn't feel all that different from a normal putter. It works really well for forehand approach shots too. The blend of r-pro is much stiffer, not at all the floppy stuff used in other putters. I keep one of these in my bag at all times, but only use it near water

This is my putter of choice!  I got one around the time when I first started playing.  The course I went to had some water hazard holes, so I figured I should get a floater.  fastforward almost a year later, and I grabbed this disc out of my extras bag and started putting with it.  I fell instantly in love, and then proceeded to buy 3 more.  I use this for my putts, and I use my original (now beat in) Hydra for approach shots.  I like the small diameter, beadless feel of the disc, and the grip rocks!  Go ahead and try this one out, cause I think it will find a place in you bag!

This mold has a very thick rim compared to other putters, which feels great in the hand (if you like that sort of thing). A small groove on the lower outside rim of the R-Pro version makes it feel slightly beaded. compared to the G-Star version which feels completely beadless.

Applicable to both the R-Pro and the G-Star version, the combination of geometry and plastic used results in a somewhat elastic bounce from the disc, which is undesirable when trying to get it to sit down in the basket. It would be great if this was mold was made available in the same plastic they use for the "Stiff Pro Pig" (that stuff is great), or failing that, even some of the older more rubbery R-Pro plastic.

I haven't gotten the chance to put a really good rip on it and see how it drives yet, but based on the numbers and hand feel, I expect that to go pretty well.

Nice and stable, works great in the wind(and we got wind in KS), plus it floats.

The Hydra is a dependable disc. I have this disc in it's pro plastic, and I love the feel of it. I like that it doesn't have a bead on the bottom rim. It throws more like a mid-range than a putter, though. It also has the added benefit of being a floater!

I wish I had this disc. My buddy has let me throw it a few times, and it works great for me. good putter, and it floats to boot!

This is the best floating mid-range on the market. Oh wait, it is the only floating mid-range on the market, because no one needs a floating mid-range. The standard plastic on this disc is incredible hard. The mold is sub-par. The disc does float, but isn't very useful beyond that. I would recommend an alternative midrange like the Roc or the Buzzz.
