I had gone through a number of allegedly overstable putters, including the Discmania P3, the Gateway Wizard, the Discraft Challenger, and the McPro Aviar.  All of these are good discs and I'm not disparaging them, but none of them really met the level of overstability that I was looking for.

The Big Bead Aviar Driver, however, is overstable.  Mine is in Star plastic, 175g.  It's flight is consistent and reliable.  Thrown into a stiff headwind, the filght will be straight, but it will not turn over and will still fade some.  It does not have much glide, so I prefer to use it as a long approach disc into the wind than driving off the tee.  It's decent for in-the-circle putting, especially for those that like to hyzer it into the basket;  it fades early and often when not thrown at full power.

All in all, the Aviar Driver fills a niche I needed filled in my windy weather bag, and may be more versatile (if shorter in flight) than a Gator.  If other discs are not giving you the overstability you want, try a Big Bead Aviar Driver.

I have a 175g Star Big Bead Aviar that has a very solid place in my bag. First off the Big Bead Aviar is not just a clever name, this Aviar compared to other molds has a slightly thicker rim and a nice bead on the bottom of that rim. For me I really like the feel of having a bead on the bottom of the rim, I like to wrap my finger around that bead and it rests nicely in my top knuckle of my first finger. I am a push putter and I'll be honest, I rarely ever putt with this putter. The only time that this disc comes out of my bag as a putter is if there is a stiff head wind and I need something a little more stable than my Wizard. Otherwise this disc for me is best suited as a driver or a great approach disc.

Off the tee you can power this bad boy up not worry about it turning over. I can be a pretty heavy handed RHBH thrower and even in a head wind I haven't turned this disc over unless I wanted to. Thrown with a slight anhyzer line it will glide on that line for a while then very consistently fade out. I will use this as a driver on straight drives that are under 250'. As an approach disc this guy works! If thrown with it's nose slightly up, it floats into position very nicely and has a tendency to just sit rather than roll out at all. I have a philosophy that I will use the slowest disc possible to get the job done, and in that respect this Aviar sees a lot of action with me. I would recommend this putter to anyone really. Some might like the fact that it's really just a beaded Aviar, others might just like it off tee or as an approach disc. I say try it out.
