These use the same thumtrac top as a Pig and Rhyno. It’s an Invader bottom, convex (outward rounded) v-tech with a small bead. In star, this disc flies like 2/3/-1/1. Nexus acts more slow and flat, 2/2/0/1. They both will handle hard forehands. But it isn't so short and glideless like the assigned numbers would indicate. I love this mold and it is way more useful (and long!) than the numbers indicate. I prefer star for approach or scrambles and nexus for how it grabs chains better than star. If you like Pig or Rhyno than try this one. Great for forehand players and it will do S-curves if you smack it right.

I like this disc for short-range putts. I was having trouble predicting the flight of my Aviar when thrown slow, so I figured a disc with very low glide, turn, and fade would help me out. For that, it's great. It flies straight and stops quickly when it hits the ground. For longer distance/faster putts, I have trouble predicting whether it will flip or not, or whether it will suddenly lift halfway through the flight. So for longer putts/approaches, I stick with my Aviar.

It appears to be a mixed consensus on people either liking it or not; I for one, did not like this disc at all. I think it's mostly due to the strange mold, it just feels very odd in your hand. Granted that may be what other's like about it. The numbers make sense, and that's what intrigued me. It flies fine, it's just the feel of it that makes me not like it. Not saying, "don't get one".. but I am saying that you should try one out or at least pick one up before purchasing. Anyone want mine? lol

Got this disc when I couldn't find a berg because I was under the impression that it was supposed to be similar to a berg. It was a decent disc and was point and shoot and would hold any line I would put it on, but after getting a berg it is no competition for the berg. This disc was not great in the headwind as it would sometimes turn over on me, and also I have bad forehand form, but I was not able to find a way to forehand this disc. The disc definitely has more than one glide, it wasn't crazy glidey, but it seemed to not be in a hurry to get to the ground. I could see this disc being great for beginners as it is point and shoot, but in my bag it has lost its spot to the berg.

I have this in star plastic 175g.  The thumb truck combined with the bead and dome make this feel different in the hand.  Flies pretty straight with minimal fade.  For me this disc has a tendency to flip up slightly to stay straight when thrown on hyzer.  It has a moderate glide, more than expected for a 1 rating, but won't sail either.  Over all it is a decent backhand approach disc, ground play is minimal and it's decent in the wind.  I have not tried putting with this disc or throwing forehand.

This disc can hold full power and not turn when thrown dead flat with very minimal if any fade at the end @ 275ft. Great off the tee. Will hold a hyzer or an anhyzer. It holds up to wind well. It holds up to wind as if it is a super beefcake, but its not, and that is AWESOME! It also is the best putter during super windy days that I have come across. The 1 glide really keeps it where you put it without the wind dictating what happens.

This disc is a "ranging" disc. It's designed for people who have a tough time dialing down the power on their stroke when trying to stay inside 200ft or so. Slow speed, high stability, and low glide mean that I can give it a fairly full swing at 200 feet and not worry about blowing pass the basket... in theory.

    Pros: Star plastic is nice.

Cons: This thing is really domey. Mine has a pop top. Combined with the thumbtrack, I don't think many people are going to enjoy the feel in the hand. The domeyness makes it feel kinda gross for forehands. It's also not a 1 glide. It's closer to a 2 or 3, which in my mind is a lot more glide. For reference, some truly 1 glide discs would be something like the kastaplast berg or dynamic discs justice.

Final thoughts: I feel like Innova saw the trend that was started by the Kastaplast Berg and wanted in on that sweet ranging action but missed the mark for sure. I can pump this thing out to almost 250, which is way too far and defeats the entire purpose of a ranging disc. For me it flies in between a gateway wizard and a kastaplast berg, but doesn't do as well as either. I'm (slightly) disappointed to report that this disc has missed the mark on feel, performance, and doesn't fly as advertised. But hey- you might love it.

I'm pretty neutral when it comes to how this disc flies. I put it in my bag to be a stable putter for long attempts at the basket or for multiple shot shapes when caught in a sticky situation. So far it just hasn't cut the mustard for me but for others it may be the answer they've been looking for. Give it a try or feel it in person as its definitely a unique feel in the hand.

Not a bad disc. However, for me the problem lies in that this role of disc is too similar to the Berg. And like many, the Berg permanently has that super slow super low glide spot in my bag. So if you hate the way the Berg feels, which is fair (it's not for everyone), give this a try. The flight isn't exactly the same but it performs a very similar role in a little more typical feeling disc.

This is a unique disc, it is like a mako3 in putter form. The thumbtrack offers a comfortable place to place my thumb, with the added bonus of extra grip. It is in about the same spot as the Pig's. The disc fits comfortable in my hand, it feels like most other putters (excluding the thumbtrack, this is the unique thing).

Throwing this disc is really easy. It will do most any line you would like it to. I've heard it mentioned that this is supposed to be like the Berg. However, I find that isn't. This cannot handle the power a Berg can. This will turnover if too much power is used, or in a headwind. I find that this disc is much more like Latitude 64's Pure, maybe just slower though.

Overall, a pretty decent approach disc.

When this was first released, I believe everyone said it was Innova's response to a Berg from Kastaplast. As someone who has thrown both, they are definitely NOT the same. The Animal is more like a Rhyno without the 3 fade. If you already love the feel of the Rhyno then you will likely enjoy this disc too. However, these Star runs are more like a Dart with a little less glide. It holds the line you put it on, but will just drop after a bit. If you want an Animal that actually has the 1-Glide, find the Nexus run if you can. You might get what you're expecting.
