I don't often give ratings lower than 4 unless a disc clearly doesn't appear to fit its advertised role. Given some of the mixed reviews here, I'm not alone with respect to the Animal (KC Pro).

I tried this disc looking for something I could throw 250' and in for distance control, and was curious if this could fill a "Berg-like" role without quite the brickiness of the Berg's. The Berg is perfectly good when I've thrown my friend's, but I liked the thumb track and overall feel of the Animal relative to Kastaplast's offering. One of the appeals of the Berg is that within a comfortable margin of error, it's going to fly roughly the same distance and the same path. So I was hoping for that but a slightly more putter-like feel in the hand and in flight.

Maybe the Berg comparison was a bad expectation, so I'll take that into account in this review. I tried really hard to like the Animal, and it just didn't quite do it for me. It seemed to occupy this kind of precarious Shroedinger's cat balance between staying neutral, slightly fading, or turning over. The difference between it staying on a hyzer the whole way vs. standing up and turning over was very hard for me to predict, and made me wonder why I wasn't just finessing my other discs instead. Notably, I was comparing it to several Pigs, Yeti Pro Aviars, and Comets on the same day and wasn't torque-monkeying those in general (in particular, Comets will reveal this quickly), and I usually have good C1 accuracy with those molds on several lines in the 200-300' range. So the Animal's flight was somewhat baffling to me, and it flew more like a very flippy putter that I wouldn't pull out unless I wanted a true turnover line. I also wouldn't trust it on a tunnel hyzerflip because the amount of flip and turn was just a bit too unpredictable for me. I rated it here as 2 1 -3 1 since that's roughly how mine was flying.

So I may give it another whirl, but I wouldn't pull it out in a round for now personally.

Caveats: I was usually throwing this at targets 200'-250'. Maybe the KC Pro will behave differently than other plastics.

Alright so here is my take on it. I absolutely loved the nexus plastic animal. It was board flat and stuck to the ground like Velcro. It quickly became a staple in my bag and had a killer place amoungst my rhyno and my pig. I live in Colorado and play a lot of high elevation (7000-9000ft) courses and this discs stability comes in handy when my rhynos and pigs just crash over. It's also an amazing disc if you have a scary/Rocky/steep green because it with the nexus plastic it tends to hit the ground and stop.

That being said, I was stoked to get my hands on a Star once they came out but was extremely disappointed. The dome on the star is incredibly noticeable, and the disc itself flies more like a 2,2,-2,1. It's way, way more flippy and just generally is a completely different disc entirely. The nexus is very much a point and shoot that can handle quite a bit of power and still fly incredibly straight. It bummed me out to say the least. I stopped bagging one for quite a while.

But wait! I recently got my hands on a KC pro animal and boy howdy I've fallen in love all over again. It isn't as board flat as the nexus, but no where near as domey as the star. It's incredibly stiff, which I love, and flies much truer to the 2,1,0,1 as advertised. I'll be the first one to admit, when I am playing at lower elevation or on a flat grassy course, it never seems to come out of my bag. But when I am up in the mountains or playing a rocky course, this bad boy sees more action than any of my other putt and approach discs.

At sea level/not the mountains it's more of a get out of jail/utility disc, which is still something very important to have in your bag. At high elevation/rocky courses it still flies true with a tiny bit of fade on the end and velcroes to the ground and is an invaluable addition to the rhyno/pig throwers out there.

I have between medium and large hand size so a lot of discs did not fit right for me. I was putting with the KC Pro Yeti Aviar and had some success but I was hoping to get a better grip with the Animal I was recommended. I can hold the Animal just as good and not better than the Aviar I perviously described. With that being said the major difference in the  putters is glide. I found the Animal to have less hyzer at the end my putts but needed more power to get the disc in the basket than the Aviar.
