Bought this because the flight numbers were pretty much the same as my Hatchets and I wanted something that didn't beat in quite as fast as my Hatchets seemed to. So far it seems more stable than advertised though unfortunately. More like an Innova Thunderbird. Maybe it's just the Diamond plastic. I'll have to try another plastic type to see if I can get the flight I'm looking for.

I'm not sure where the diamond plastic lands in the range of durability lineup for gateway, but I expected it to be less durable than it is. I never thought much of gateway until I got the spear as a mystery add in option with an order from infinite. I personally like this disc as an intermediate turnover disc that isn't too overstable. If you have more power, you may not like it as it may turn it over too far and have it burn out.

    BUY THIS DISC!

The Diamond Spear from Gateway is the closest thing to a faster FD you'll ever throw. It does everything if you finesse it well. Hyzerflip to flat, Hyzerflip to turn, long gentle anhyzers, high glidey hyzers, rollers... you name it. Power down a little if it flips to fast, its got plenty of glide and you don't need to mash it to make it fly.

Slower arms should expect a nice full flight when thrown flat. Some gentle turn followed by a gentle fade for an overall straight shot. Glide is huge, and it might be the furthest disc you throw if you are around 300-325' average.

Under 300' you should expect, when thrown flat, a nice straight flight with a dependable fade at the end.

I got this disc from ID as a mystery disc.   I like the Diamond plastic and I like how domey it is.   I just haven't been able to figure the Spear out yet.    But I like the disc so much that I won't give up on it.   So this review is very much "in process".

Simply put, a Spear in Evolution Diamond plastic looks great, feels great, and flies great.  There are tons of options out there for 9-speed control drivers.  I bag an Axiom Insanity, a Spear, and a Roadrunner and use the Spear when the shot calls for a nice smooth S-shape.  I don't throw with so much power that it won't always come back with a smooth fade.  Bigger arms may need to power down for straight flights based on previous reviewer comments.  I can throw the Insanity a little farther, but don't get as much turn out of it.

The plastic has a great feel to it, and the rim is a very comfortable grip.  The flight is very consistent and is a great controllable driver for beginners.

I usually do not throw anything with more than a -1 turn, as I tend to turn and burn those discs. I usually never throw the Spear flat, mostly hyzer flip, which is very easy to do. However, thrown at around 75% flat it will go straight and then begin its slow glidey anny fade due to the understabiltily. Great backhand roller as well. You do not have to kill this disc for it to fly as intended. Plastic feels nice, mine is slightly rubbery feeling.

Impressive. My Spear works just as well as any other straight fairway that I have tried.  What is really great about it is the rim. It feels perfect in the hand compared to other discs with more concaveness in the rim, yet it still gets the distance and has stability.  I am rethinking what I like now. Some of the fairways that I was using before no longer feel as comfortable for flicks.

My Spear (Yellow Opaque Diamond) seems a little more stable than the numbers suggest.
