The Illusion is a fast, overstable distance driver made by Gateway. This disc is easy to throw and is great for sidearms, tomahawks, and distance drives. The Illusion is available in both of Gateway’s great plastics. If you’re looking for a great grip, try Sure Grip. If durability and long life is more important, go with Evolution plastic.

My Flight Ratings: 11/5/-1/3 Not Beginner Friendly Throwing Distance: N/A Straight Score: N/A

In explaining my four-star rating on this disc, I want to make sure that it is clear-- I use this disc entirely as a tool for very specific situations. I would NEVER pull this thing out of my bag for any kind of long-distance drive, or any kind of pretty, S-curve flight path. I ONLY pull this thing out of my bag for one reason-- to make a very sharp turn around an obstacle that is not very far away.

Now maybe you have a very strong throw and believe you can whip this thing out there, and if you can, I'm impressed! But for my intermediate level of play, there is no way I can make this thing keep a straight line for more than 50 feet. It turns very early and very hard whenever I throw it. I see the flight chart whoing a turn at 350 feet and I figure that must be when a pro (or a gorilla) is throwing this thing.

If I miss a mando and need to back-track around a marker in a very tight, overstable turn, then this disc is the one I pull out of the bag. I have rarely seen a  disc make a more sudden turn, except maybe a Discraft Flick. The downside is that it is so flat that it moves fast, so it will not glide after making that turn. At least in my case, it hits the ground quickly.

So yes, I like it, and I use it, but only in very specific circumstances. That's why it holds a solid spot in my bag. It always does what I expect it to do, and nothing more.  Do NOT get this thing as a beginning player as a "distance driver" or you'll be wondering why nothing you throw goes in a straight line. But if you have experience, it's a fun utility disc.
