The Ghoul by Gateway is a stable to overstable approach disc with a low profile. The forehand comfort is exceptional with a signature thumb-track top and smooth rounded wing. The Ghoul will have a straight to stable flight for power throwers and a stable to overstable finish for players with a lower arm speed.

Do you like a slammer but aren't a fan of the chunkiness? This disc is an amazing replacement for that, with a classic rounded and beaded putter bottom, with a small thumbtrack on the top, more of a slammer thumbtrack than a berg.

If you love approach discs and want to try something new, highly recommend!

The Ghoul is Gateway's #1 Approach Disc. Let me break it down.

This has Gateway's classic thumbtrack/concave top that's the same one found on the Warspear, Devilhawk, as well as some others from AGL and such. Trilogy, Innova, and Discraft's similar top molds all have a hard line where the flight plate and the thumb track meet, making them feel blocky. Gateway's top has a nice gradual curve into the edge of the thumbtrack, allowing for more consistent thumb placement for backhands. It's generally pretty low-profile, and the Chief bottom with a rounded edge and a microbead make this disc easy to throw no matter what. It feels like a 3.5 speed that lacks some glide, and that's a feature, not a complaint.

This disc is very torque resistant. Thrown slowly at half power, it will smoothly create a gradual curve from release to the ground. Not a harsh fade, doesn't push super far, it just makes a perfect crescent flight that fades as far as it pushes straight. That makes it incredibly useful for shots that need to go around an obstacle. Most Zones/Toros/Devilhawks thrown at low speeds will dump into a harsh fade when they're thrown softly. The Ghoul will fade as it pushes forward. It's awesome.

Power up on the Ghoul and you won't experience any flip, but you will instead witness a very straight flight with only a minimal and dependable fade. It does the Berg sort of thing where it just decides it's done flying and fades out gently and predictably.

Compared to other offerings in the Gateway lineup, this is as close to a typical approach disc that you will find. The Warspear is straighter than the Ghoul, though they compliment each other nicely and I do bag both. The Houdini has a more aggressive fade, but flies slower with more glide thanks to its very tall profile. The Devilhawk is somewhere between the Ghoul and the Houdini. It's a touch more dumpy than the Ghoul and a touch taller, though it's shorter than the Houdini and not quite as glidey.

If you like forehands, Bergs, Zones, Rhynos, Slammers, etc., this is a wonderfully fun addition to add to that type of flight. A true delight by the mastermind of Dave McCormack that I will bag for years to come. Can't wait for it to drop in premium plastic!
