The Bleak, by Doomsday Discs, is a top-notch, high-quality, straight-flying putter that perfectly describes the look of the future. While the future may look bleak, your putting doesn't have to if you use one of the best beadless putters on the market. It feels great, looks great, and flies great, whether putting at the basket or tossing the Bleak across the fairway.

    Ration Details

Ration plastic from Doomsday Discs is a base-line blend in their Prepper Line of discs. It is similar to other affordable base plastics on the market, like DX or Retro. It is a great choice for putters or for players who want their mids and drivers in a softer blend for different flight characteristics than premium blends.

As a new player I've tried a few different letters and putting styles. This disc was great no matter what. Super consistent. It does what you tell it, so if it's off...well you get it. To me it's comparable to an Innova xero. I love the feel and how it just sits on long layups. Can't say enough good things about it.

I got the Bleak in Ration plastic as part of a Doomsday Prepper set. I've been pretty pleased with the set and the overall feel and flight of the Bleak: To me it seems pretty similar to the Alpaca, though a bit less stable. The glide is on par with other 4-glide putters I have. It putts just fine. As a throwing putter it got pretty good distance and flew fairly straight with a tailwind, and showed some turn to the right into the wind; in either case, it didn't have much fade back, though, so I give it a bit lower fade rating. My one dig against the disc is that it came in the Ration plastic (the other discs in the set came in higher-grade plastics): After throwing on a soft grass field only about 10 times it was already showing less stability, and finally in one instance even veered far enough to the right (into just a slight breeze) that it cleared the side bushes and ended up in a parking lot. In the same conditions the following day, it progressed to the point of cut-rolling when going into that breeze. Also that one parking lot landing roughed up the edges and underside of the Bleak quite a bit. By comparison, the same sort of thing happened a few times in the same field/lot with a very understable fairway driver in Max Grip plastic, but even with more hits at higher speed on the same black top, the driver didn't show too much abrasive wear. I think the Bleak is a great putter, but for me, I'd rather have it in a better quality plastic so it last longer and maintains its original flight characteristics better.

At full power it will turn hard and hold it, but it always has a consistent small fade. I get about the same distance as my Aviar at moderate power, but the Aviar is a bit easier to throw at higher speeds unless you're confident with your angle control. At lower speeds/shorter putts, they behave pretty similarly

Review for Ration Bleak at Max Weight (174-175g)

This disc is an absolute money maker. I bought a pair a couple months ago because they were cheap and I was on the market to find a new putting putter. I currently have a dozen as practice putters. I have converted several of my friends to the wonders of the Bleak.

I have been putting with the bleak for several months and can attest to just how good this mold is.Very similar hand-feel to the popular ever popular Aviar and P2. The Bleak is very comfortable in my medium-large hands. I have found superior grip in the wet, cold, snow, and the blazing heat of the summer. This disc is deep enough for my buddy who has large hands and long fingers. His putting looked bleak before, but with the Bleak it no longer does.

As a throwing putter the Bleak also shines. It glides for days and I have been pushing 290-300ft if I give it enough air. It's slightly understable and the plastic is very durable for a base plastic. I am able to comfortably power grip this and get a lot of snap on my Bleaks.

With the Bleak, I have found what most disc golfers are looking for: consistency.
